Rate this book
Two eager hearts. One resilient love.

Dr. Ezekiel Thompson is learning a lot about love from his boyfriend, it’s compassionate, patient, tender, and unconditional. But when the fear of proving his dad right makes him focus so much on studying for his board exam that he falls short with boyfriend duties, he learns the most important lesson of unconditional doesn’t mean conflict-free. Now that he knows his toxic parents don’t need to have a physical presence in his life to wreak havoc, can he stop them from overshadowing the next phase of his medical career and the dream life he’s building with Hendrix?

Dr. Hendrix Ingram-Jones finally finds the love he’s always dreamt of, but even the happiest relationships go through ups and downs. When he’s reminded of unresolved hurts from his past, he has to work with Zeke to navigate the rocky moments without causing irreparable damage. Will his mistakes undo everything he and Zeke have built, or will they find solid ground?

Hopefully Unbreakable is a spicy MM contemporary romance with an established relationship, emotional hurt/comfort, found family, a physician who’s learning he s lovable, and a medical speech-language pathologist determined to show him just how much he’s worth fighting for.

Arc review- thank you BookSirens & Taz Ansley for allowing me to read the arc in exchange for an honest review.

Hopefully Unbreakable is the follow up to hopefully unconditional. We once again join Hendrix and Zeke showing that love really can break barriers and generational trauma. If the first book gave us angst this book gave us the soothing balm to fix it. Hendrix and Zeke came together as a couple and took everything that came their way - misunderstandings, family drama, and guys who don’t take no for an answer!

Hopefully unbreakable also gave me what I loved so much, in the first book which is black men being vulnerable and with no toxic masculinity with the boys being soft and loving to each other.

My only criticism is I felt the crucial arguments between people outside the relationship (parents & Shawn) could’ve been bigger deals, but I was overly happy to see Zeke not letting things affect him as much.

Overall this is a wonderful read and I can’t wait for others to read it.

*ARC REVIEW*

"Loving you is the greatest privilege. I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again, you are everything I ever wanted and more, and I can't wait to love you every day for the rest of my life."- Literally the theme of this book.

This second installment in Hen and Zeke's journey takes everything I loved from book one and elevates it. While the first book focused on building their relationship and laying the foundation for their found family, this one explores what it actually means to maintain that love and community when real-life challenges arise.

Zeke's internal struggle with confidence adds a deeper emotional layer to the story. Watching him navigate insecurities as he tries to grow into a supportive, loving partner felt raw and authentic. At the same time, external conflicts threaten the peace he and Hen have built, creating a compelling balance of tenderness and tension.

One of my favorite aspects of Taz's writing is the celebration of Black excellence. Every character brings something special to the table, and the love letter to Black culture, from the music to the fashion to the subtle nods to classic TV, adds so much richness to the reading experience. The entire book feels like a vibe, reminiscent of those soulful Saturday mornings filled with music, warmth, and cleaning with your momma.

What truly stands out is the communication. The characters talk, they listen, and they show up for each other in ways that feel genuine and refreshing. You can feel the love on every page. Zeke, especially, stole my heart. I wanted to wrap him in a hug more than once. This includes celebrating each person, whether it's listening to their successes or just showing up when they need you the most. Hen's family does an excellent job of that.

The romance? Even stronger this time around. The chemistry between Hen and Zeke is undeniable, and the added spice only deepens their connection. Their small acts of love, flowers, chai-flavored cinnamon rolls, and quiet moments of cuddling on the couch make their relationship feel both aspirational and real. They are, without a doubt, relationship goals.

With meaningful character growth, emotional depth, and exciting developments hinting at future stories, this installment left me even more invested in what's to come. I can't wait to see how this world and these relationships continue to evolve in the next books.

Final thoughts: A heartfelt, vibrant, and deeply romantic continuation that celebrates love, growth, and the black community in the most beautiful way.

“No matter what happens, they’ll continue to cultivate a love that feels and is unbreakable.”
.
.
Leave it to Taz to craft a book that gives me all the feels. Hopefully Unbreakable picks up with Zeke and Hen nearly a year into their relationship. Between studying for boards, their first anniversary, and questionable coworkers, Zeke and Hen’s love will be put to the test.

There are so many swoony elements, impactful themes, and tearjerking moments throughout Hopefully Unbreakable.

Without spoilers, I’d like to share some of my favorite moments.

Acts of Service: Thoughtfulness and intentionality are prevalent themes in Hopefully Unbreakable. From the level of care that Hen put into their anniversary celebration to Zeke waking up early to make Hen cinnamon rolls, there is no shortage of romantic gestures. As you read, you can’t help but swoon over weekly flower bouquets, cuddle sessions, slow dancing to Anita Baker, and so much more.

Healthy Communication & Familial Relationships: With Zeke being estranged from his parents, it was incredibly heartwarming to be back with the Ingram-Jones clan. I absolutely adored Fifi and Frankie in this book. From the way they loved their children and fostered open lines of communication. To the fantasy football teams, Zeke feeling comfortable enough to reach out to Fifi and Frankie, I loved seeing Zeke blossom in that facet. Lastly, the theme of communication. There are numerous incidents where Angel and Bunny’s relationship is put to the test. What I loved was their ability to feel their feelings, regroup, and then have healthy communication techniques.

Most importantly, it’s how masterfully and beautifully Taz has written a story showcasing black queer love. Much like my review for Hopefully Unconditional, I will ALWAYS commend Ansley for stories that highlight black excellence and love in its many forms. From the cultural references (the barber/TV shows/ music selections), LGBTQ relationship depictions, and, of course, varying career and educational backgrounds. Ansley remains steadfast in amplifying and telling black stories. Which, in my opinion, is all the more reason why Hopefully Unbreakable is deserving of five stars.

As Hopefully Unbreakable came to a close, I can’t wait for what’s next for the Ingram-Jones family and Zeke + Hen’s love story.

Hopefully Unbreakable by Taz Ansley is a solid follow-up to Hopefully Unconditional, and I recommend reading the first book before diving into this one to fully appreciate the journey.

I still absolutely love the dynamic and chemistry between Hendrix and Zeke. Watching the progression of their relationship, and equally important, Zeke's deepening relationship with Hendrix's family, was heartwarming and satisfying. One of the things I appreciated most about this book is how Hendrix and Zeke consistently work to communicate through any issues that arise. They talk things out, they show up for each other, and that kind of healthy relationship representation is refreshing.

The found family trope will always have my heart, and Ansley delivers beautifully on this front. I loved how supportive and accepting Hendrix's parents are of Zeke, and how his entire family has embraced both Zeke and his sister as their own. Given Zeke's family history, seeing him surrounded by such a strong support system made my heart so full. This aspect of the story is where Ansley truly shines.

That said, I'll be honest, it took me longer to get into this story than the first book. There were moments when the pacing slowed down with what felt like too much detail and characters overthinking situations. Once I settled into the rhythm, though, I was fully invested. There were also times when things felt almost too perfect, which occasionally pulled me out of the story. But the warmth and fuzziness I felt throughout ultimately won me over.

If you're a fan of found family, healthy communication in relationships, and watching couples navigate life together with solid support systems, Hopefully Unbreakable is worth the read!

Thank you Taz Ansley and Book Sirens for my ARC copy.

Hopefully Unbreakable is an amazing follow-up to Hopefully Unconditional and the series is best read in order to fully appreciate Hendrix and Zeke's journey.

In the beginning of book we find Hen and Zeke navigating a relationship while Zeke is studying for an exam. Their relationship isn't struggling but Hen is feeling a bit neglected and he's bit peeved about Zeke disregarding his concerns about of one his colleagues. We find out that indeed Hen was right and it throws him into a bit of a tailspin because it's highly reminiscence of his experience with Malik. This moment of conflict shows Zeke that Hen was correct in his assessment and that he needs to set clear boundaries with that colleague. In the book both Hen and Zeke realize that they have to make big choices and stand up for each in ways that affirm their relationship.

I do feel that some of the conflict was easily conquered without too much fanfare vs Hopefully Unconditional were the conflict between Zeke and his family is a big part of the narrative. It is nice to see how they prioritize their relationship but I the think situations with Shawn and Gabbi were moments that were missed opportunities for in-depth conversations between Hen and Zeke.

It made me happy that Zeke had a full circle moment where he was able to speak life into Taj after his family's reaction to his relationship.

Overall, I loved the continuation of Zeke and Hen's story and I look forward to book 3!

And they're back....

Hendrix and Ezekiel are back, and we get to see them navigating their relationship while life is lifing.
Watching both Hen and Zeke make big choices and stand up for each other in ways that not only affirms the relationship but also each other as individuals within it. The updates from the family members were exactly what I needed in this installment. (I love when the author gives us much needed updates on secondary characters!)

Watching the full circle moment happens during the holidays with Zeke and a new person who he gets to speak life into in a way that only he could, allows for us to see a more healed version of Zeke. (Which should give those of us that are hurting HOPE!!)

Maybe I’m toxic but I wanted there to be more drama surrounding the issues that they faced, separately and the ones they dealt with together. Cause Bunny should have listened to Angel **eye roll **
Hen and Zeke will make you believe no matter what you face you can find love that is unbreakable!

Such an amazing story can’t wait for book 3!!

Thank you Taz and BookSirens for the free advanced reader copy. My review is all mine and it’s voluntary.

I read somewhere that butterflies need to get out of their chrysalis on their own to make sure their wings are strong enough for them to fly. The getting out of the chrysalis gets the blood pumping, and helps their wings grow to the right size. This book was the perfect representation of people coming out of their chrysalis and becoming who they’re meant to be. Zeke is finally able to find his wings and fly, with Hendrix and his family cheering him on, loving him, supporting him, giving him the space he needs to grow, but also the love and support he needs to thrive. I thought the first book was perfect, and was slightly apprehensive about reading this one, fearing it would be like overcooking a Wagyu steak. I didn’t realize this was part of a 5 course meal, the first one being that steak, this one being appetizers, soup, salad and dessert! Fantastic. It is so good to see loved characters finding their footing and being loved… it’s a beautiful story, fantastic development, the characters that I fell in love with in the previous book continue being fantastic, and on top of that, we get to see them be happy, learn, grow, and love. It’s beautiful, I loved it, and I highly recommend it.

You know you love the characters of a book when you happily read a contemporary romance that’s a series. With no breakup drama or messy exs. I had a smile on my face the entire time I was reading this book because I legitimately enjoy spending time with these characters and reading about the beautiful progression of their lives together.

I do have to point out that the writing style does take some getting used to, it reminds me of when you watch something with the audio description feature on. It’s not a style I’m a fan of and takes about halfway through for it flow smoothly for me. My other issue is that I don’t think the balance in Zeke’s personality was done as well in this book as in book one. At times his actions felt infantile in a way that was kind of cringey.

Outside of that this book is definitely for the readers who really want to see a couple deep in the happy honeymoon phase of their love story.

Of course i loved this book. This book is filled with a ton of adorable romantic goodness, hot as hell smut with FILTHY dirty talk, all the found family that i think is humanly possible and everything i could ask for in a book. I loved Zeke and Hendrix after reading book one to the point where i couldnt dtop thinking about them, and i swear this book just further ingrained them into my soul because OMG. I don't think i have enough words in the human language to even explain how much i love this book. 10/10 all of the stars and then some MY GOD.

In book 2 of the Hopefully Series we get to see Zeke and Hen as a couple dating for close to a year now. We get to see the ups and downs of their relationship and how they navigate the good times and bad times. I really love me some Angel and Bunny and the family they have cultivated. The Ingram-Jones Family is exactly what Zeke needed. The way this family shows up for each other is beautiful. Found family is one of my absolute favorite tropes. I can't wait to see how the series progresses.
