Rate this book
This is a book about hope. This is a book about change. This is a book about the opportunity that we all have to design our own lives and pursue a beautiful future, regardless of our age or situation in life.In summary-this is a book about moving from "autopilot" to "authentic."At 45 years of age, I had a mid-life thing happen to me. Some people have mid-life crises. Others have mid-life tragedies. Many have mid-life stagnation, boredom, or sadness. The lucky ones go through the mid-life years well, continuing on their correct, chosen path. As for me, on the outside, my life was great. I had good health, a good marriage, great kids and a great job. My career was progressing well, and other than the usual bumps along the road at work and at home, all was peachy. The I was on autopilot. I didn't know what I didn't know, and was living a life according to other people's expectations. I wasn't living the life that was authentic for me, and I had no idea. Thank God I experienced some events along the way that woke me up. Through synchronicity, mentoring, tragedy and therapy, I came to recognize the wrong path that I was on, and the wrong habits and ways of thinking that were holding me back. I moved from autopilot to authentic.Tom Hill, my long-time mentor and life coach, has been a central figure in the growth and trajectory of my life, and this book is dedicated to him and his family. I am forever blessed to have crossed paths with Tom, from my college years when he was an administrator for the University of Missouri, to our time working together in selling RE/MAX franchises, to his ongoing dedication to me and my family as my life coach and friend over the past decade. Tom has taught me the simple, profound and timeless principles from which to design and live out an exceptional life, and I pinch myself every day for the blessings that have come my way as a result. Among other things, he taught me how to move from autopilot to authentic. So why do I write this book? For two honor Tom Hill and the impact he has had on me and thousands of others around the world who have benefited from his speaking, writing, coaching, mentoring, and friendship.Two--to inspire you, the reader, to take an honest look at your own life, and to provide you the encouragement to take action--so you will move toward your authentic self. My hope is that this book will provide you with the principles and practical advice for moving forward and achieving your unique dreams. Remember, no one should "should" on their dreams, and no one should run their life on autopilot. Instead - move to authentic and enjoy the ride!

I have come to realize how indeed fortunate I have been to have the right books either be recommended to me or that I just seem to discover. A smaller few have been gifted to me as this book has been by none other than Dr. Tom Hill who is so prevalent throughout the book written by Brett Blair.

It took a lot of courage for Brett Blair to lay bare to the world his story of failures and successes. I doubt many of us could do what he has done by writing this book, telling his story. It is a compelling read for certain. It was easy to give it the maximum number of stars. It was a hard book to put down.

What will the reader, hopefully you, learn from Blair’s book? Perseverance first comes to mind; never give in, never give up. The value of being focused comes to mind in that you can achieve almost anything you want as long as the goal you set remains ever present and foremost in your mind and you take some form of action towards achieving what you want most in life. Balance comes to mind in just how important it is to keep all the areas in your life in balance with each other such as Spiritual, Physical, Emotional, Relationships, Being Learning Based and your Financial health. How letting one or more be neglected causes the other areas to suffer and your life becomes even more out of balance.

Obstacles will certainly affect us all. How will we react. Blair again bares his soul in how he reacted and why. You can read a lot of books, as I have, but I seriously doubt that you will read one that will affect you as much as this one will, or at least as much as it affected me. In less than 160 pages Blair describes growing up, going to school, making and leaving relationships, realizing that his career path was not best suited for him and making significant changes, and his subsequent failures followed by successes both in business and his relationships. In short, this book about his life, thus far, could easily have been portrayed as a soap opera on television.

The most important lesson from the book, at least for me, was that no matter how deep a hole you may have dug for yourself, stop digging and certainly don’t start hanging pictures on the walls of the hole you dug for yourself.

One recommendation I immediately took from the book was signing up for the program EYEQ to both increase the speed at which I read and hopefully increase the comprehensive and retention of what I read. That alone makes this book well worth the read.

Who should read this book? It would be impossible for to identify anyone who would not benefit from reading it over the age of 10 or 12 depending upon their maturity. If you want to build a successful life, Blair has laid it all out for you through his life experiences. It’s there for the taking.
