After the untimely death of her mother, Caprice Latimore has to move in with her grandmother. At eight years old, life as she knows it is turned upside down. The trauma of losing her mother is made worse with the introduction of Marcel, her grandmother's adult son who still lives in the home.
Her uncle Marcel takes an inappropriate interest in her that ultimately results in a tragic breaking point for the child. The only silver lining is that shortly after what Caprice calls "that night", Marcel is booked by local police with a drug possession charge. He's sentenced to prison for twelve years.
Seven years later, however, Marcel is released on good behavior.
Caprice is now sixteen, still dealing with the emotional scars of the past. But things aren't like they were before.
Because now she has Shaun Taylor, the boy across the street who will do whatever it takes to make sure no one ever hurts Caprice again.
Fast is a standalone that spans twenty years. Separated into three acts, we watch Caprice grow from eight years old to sixteen years old to twenty-eight years old. She gets hurt, she falls in love, she grows, and she just might overcome.

Whheewww this book was rather interesting! I went into it blind and well I couldn’t put it down. I understand what the rage was all about. Good ending to tragic story. CHECK YOUR TRIGGERS PLEASE

So this gripping coming of age story tugged at my heartstrings by chapter 2 I had tears in my eyes but baby chapter 14- broke me down. I can’t understand how Gracie went from defending Caprice to placing the blame in on her! I would’ve been ran away from Gracie. After Marcel was arrested and sentence to 12 years in prison- Gracie turned on Caprice after she got him arrested (rightfully so)!! from not feeding her, mental and physical abuse, and not providing her with the bare necessities- Gracie could go to hell!! In her mind- an 8 year old girl lied on a 21 year old man so treated her awful! She knew something happened but her guilt of her only living child being in jail and being taken advantage of- she couldn’t deal with it
Marcel- you took the innocence of an 8 years old. You tried to groom her but she knew something wasn’t right- she starting staying away and so when you had an opportunity- you violated her. Then you were violated in prisons and 3 weeks after coming home/ you tried to rape her again! Luckily Shaun was there and while he failed to off you/ he protected her from rape!
Kelly and her mama saved Caprice life! While I wished Kelly had saved her 12 years old- she saved her when she was able too. And by her sending you to her mom- she provided the therapy that Caprice needed.
Shaun Bernard Tyler- the boy you fell in love with Caprice at 10 years old. You had the inkling that something was wrong and you stuck to baby girl like glue! The fact that you tried to save her from her uncle when you didn’t even understand the ramifications. You went on to exist but you didn’t live! But when you randomly ran into Caprice on the Caprice!
I love how development of the characters. Shaun and Caprice did the work separately and Caprice faced her fears by visiting Gracie. I love how Miss Sylvia didn’t have any animosity towards Caprice and how she accepted her.
Kofi— baby boy you went through some trauma and I’m so glad that Caprice found you!
I pray that all SA victims find a way to heal themselves and find love without self harm. You’re not broken and nothing was your fault!

Okay let me first say before you read this book check your trigger warnings make sure you are in a good head space before you read or listen to this book because this book deals with some very heavy topics but it was a good book I enjoyed this story a lot you do get a good love story in the midst of heavy situation these characters definitely deserve the love and I'm glad they do get it but they had a deal with a lot to get there especially the FMC overall good book the narrators did a great job bringing this story to life first ever book that I listen to by this author so yeah check it out.

Started this book on vacation. Definitely not a relaxing read. This book had me sobbing while catching beautiful views.
From chapter one, the tears were a mix of sad and angry tears. Everyone failed Caprice and it broke my heart. I'm glad she had one friend, Shaun, to keep her going. Was definitely sad when they lost touch but was pleasantly surprised when they found each other again.
That reunion scene was cute af G
Love that Caprice grew up to help kids, healing the inner kid that didn't get the help she deserved. Sidebar, that Khofi story line was amazing!

Caprese had it hard from the start. Her mom died and she had to go live with her grandmother. And her uncle. She was only 8 years old. Then she met Shawn and he became really the only friend she had. Later she's taken away from her grandmother's house and moved to another home where she finally thrives.

This is the second time I’ve read (well listened this time), and honestly it was just as good. This story is one I’ll hold in my heart forever. Such a heartbreaking but also beautiful story. Though this story is fiction, but for so many kids it’s their reality.

I don't normally write reviews but this book pulled me in. It was such a beautiful and well-written story. I was emotionally invested from the start. I boo hoo cried through the first third of the book. Overall it was soooo good. Loved it!

HEAVY TRIGGER WARNINGS.
This was my first time reading a book with trauma this intense, and I had to take several breaks because of the child SA content. It’s extremely heavy. That said, the writing is phenomenal and the narrators did an absolutely incredible job. The story pulls you in so deeply that it becomes a heartbreaking, immersive experience. I genuinely had to finish it for my own peace of mind.
If I had to point out anything negative, it would be that some of the internal self‑dialogue felt repetitive at times. Still, I’m definitely interested to see what this author does next.
