Ah the queen of the foodie travel romance is back, and with a title that doesn't obviously scream food, or destination, but definitely sounds festive.
And I'm happy to say the setting is a Christmas Tree Farm in Wales, that sounded totally delightful and there is a foodie slant in this into a cuisine that you may not guess or predict based on the setting, but certainly got my tastebuds tingling.
But above all this is a story about family, and about Gwen who is determined to sell her Christmas Tree Farm, and Willow who is in need of foster care, and is related distantly to her deceased husband Paddy.
Gwen is very kind hearted and agrees to look after Willow for the interim, and suddenly had a 9 year old boy to look after and no clue how.
But as he starts to come out of his shell, with the help of an eclectic group of people who are all wanting to help either him or Gwen, a community forms, and this becomes an incredibly heartwarming story.
There is also a commentary on just what is meaningful in life compared to what you see on social media. And there are some lovely messages and thoughts all centred around Paddy's tree.
I could picture the farm so clearly and I loved the handful of animals that were present too.
This was a festive joy to devour, and I was hooked from start to finish. Another totally amazing book from Jo Thomas, who is an author that never disappoints.

What a gorgeous joyful book. Full of Christmas magic, love, promises and wonder.
When Gwen gets a knock at the door from Lara a social worker to say that her departed husbands cousin was in need of a foster home hee world is turned upside down by little Will. Her life opens up and she finds more out about her self than she ever knew existed.

There's not much better than a Jo Thomas Christmas book. If my maths is right (which I admit it isn't usually) this is my 11th of her books and each is as delightful as the last.
It's a lot more serious than I was expecting. I know that even happily-ever-after type books have difficult moments and this really does. It's not always the cosy, warming, uplifting, festive book that you might have expected but she really balances it well I think and it sort of shows the real meaning of Christmas - to help others.
Gwen and I might be different generations and in different circumstances, but there was something about her that made me feel like I really understood her. Willow was a delightful little boy and my heart went out to him. His friend Horse is delightful, but Gwen's friend Gareth I really didn't like. I want to say his heart was in the right place but I found him very self-centered.
It'll make you cry. Not in an upsetting way, in a beautiful, uplifting, everything will be okay kind of way.
The whole location, the farmhouse with the aga and the land etc. was so idyllic, especially in the winter with the snow and whatnot, oh it sounded so perfect.
Having finished it, I would say that the Christmas part is actually quite background. Yes the Christmas tree farm is important to the plot, but for me the story is more about family and friends and community, and it just so happens to be set at Christmas. I thought I would mind this because I love Christmas, but Jo has written such delightful characters that I was fully absorbed in their story and didn't really mind when it was set.
It wasn't my favourite book of hers - that's still A Recipe For Christmas - but it had everything I was looking for in a Jo Thomas Christmas book. It's got family, friendship, community, food, and no matter the serious topics, it's still uplifting and heartwarming.

Gwen is struggling to cope with the farm she used to run with her husband, Paddy, up to his death. But the farm is slowly falling apart, a little like her., and she knows she needs to sell. Her life is turned upside down when unexpectedly, a distant relative of Paddy, a little boy called Willow comes to live with her while he waits for his forever family. Along with Willow, comes Lara his social worker, Ayesha who was the mother of one of his mother's boyfriends and a man called Horse, who is a biker but is as gentle as he is big - and he is very big. Wthout expecting to, Gwen finds herself with a found family - but how long for?
I loved this novel. Gwen's bleak situation at the beginning of the novel came through very well. I lived Willow and Gwen's initiallly tentative attempts to find connection with them.. I enjoyed the growing cast of characters around Gwen, and the dilemmas that they create for Gwen. This is such a wonderful, gentle novel, so immersive, and the Christmas theme is woven in so beautifully and I was loath to leave Gwen's world at the end of the novel.

This is a lovely Christmas novel, full of hope, joy and the prospect of finding love in all different types of relationships.
Gwen is a widow who still lives on Christmas Tree Farm, with memories of her late husband and the babies she lost before they were born. The sale of the farm seems the most sensible option until she is approached as the only relative of her late husband’s nephew who is in need of kinship care.
The story is one of joy and also real home truths of difficult upbringings, loss and dementia. The relationships that develop are warm and with promise of the future and the storyline was so well crafted it makes the reader want to know how the characters will develop and the story will end.
Definitely one to read if you are looking for a Christmas book or for a wonderful festive gift for a loved one.

This did not disapoint, I real this in the shade during the hottest weather we have had and this cooled me down.

Wow what can I say! Another absolutely fabulous read from Jo Thomas one of my all time favourite authors

Another fantastic read by Jo Thomas.
The most perfect read for Christmas.

Gwen and Will are the main characters with many others taking large parts as well. It centres around a old rundown farm, with Gwen at a crossroads after losing her husband Paddy.
Will enters her life and literally its life changing. I won’t spoil anything but it’s lovely and wholesome whilst covering some emotional issues. Lots to be found on Christmas tree farm.

This was a wonderful Christmassy book that gave me illusions of snow and cozy days in the middle of a heatwave!
The book focuses on widow, Gwen, who is selling the Christmas Tree Farm, and home with her late husband, Paddy. Gwen is about to embark on a whole new life in a downsized flat when her husband's young cousin and a motley group come into her life, unexpectedly, and give her a whole new purpose and view on what is possible.
This is only the second Jo Thomas book that I've read, and I loved it. It was fun, easy to read and tugged on my heartstrings. Jo creates wonderful characters that you just have to champion.

Another lovely read from Jo Thomas, the story of Gwen who needs to sell her farm and the Christmas Tree site. Things however change and with new responsibilities and new friends Gwen is heading for a bit of a roller coaster ride.

I love a Jo Thomas book and this one is no exception. It's a perfect Christmas read. Gwen is selling her precious Christmas Tree farm as she no longer has the heart after the death of her husband. Then suddenly things change and she has to make some decisions and fast.

This is a delightful festive read, and I quickly became engrossed in Gwen's story and the Christmas Tree Farm. Gwen has decided to move out of the Christmas Tree Farm and sell it, move to a small flat and try to move on with her life; now her husband, Paddy, has died.
I loved the characters in this story and how the farm helped to heal them all. When Willow, a nine year old distant relation of Paddy's, arrives and needs to live with Gwen for a while, everything changes for Gwen. Her plans to move out change throughout the story as she learns to cope with what having Willow in her life means. I loved Gwen's resilience, despite everything that life keeps throwing at her. I enjoyed watching Willow (Will) slowly come out of himself with the help of Gwen, Lara, the social worker and Horse, an old friend of Will's.
Together, they help each other to find a new way through their troubles and to move on. This is a lovely story, and I didn't want to put it down. I had a hunch about where the story was going, but I still had to keep picking the book up and find out for myself.
