I enjoyed this book and I had a crush on Ashton! I couldn't help myself =)

 :

Ashton was sent to jail for a few years for a murder he DIDN'T commit. His best friend Willow had been sending him letters that he never returned so she tried to forget him.

Then one day Ashton is back in his hometown and everyone is not happy. Willow is a nervous wreck until later on in the book they find out her letters were kept from Ash.

Ash wants to find out who really killed his friend all of those years ago and Willow decides to help him. I had my eye on a couple of people being the culprits but there was a little twist so there's more than meets the eye.

But, Ash and Willow aren't safe. The killer is sending them messages and trying to kill a few people.

Either way I really enjoyed this book and I loved Ash and Willow. I loved Willow's best friend Lisa too! This was a good little young adult mystery and like I said before I have a crush on Ash. lol

I'm just going to admit, I initially wasn't sure I was going to like this book. I had tried reading Doon, co-written by Langdon, and wasn't a fan myself. But after reading Gilt Hollow, I just feel silly for ever having any of those doubts. This is a YA mystery/thriller with an engaging storyline that plays on some darker elements set against an eerie backdrop. As a fan of darker novels, I ate this one up crazy fast!

After spending the last four years in juvenile detention, Ashton is released and returns to his hometown of Gilt Hollow - where his supposed crime had taken place. He's out to find who really committed said crime and seek revenge against those who wrongfully accused him.

Willow is Ashton's life long friend and maybe the only person alive who never believed he was guilty of the crimes he was accused of. Ashton and Willow rekindle their friendship and work together to learn the truth. But what happens when they start sniffing around the wrong places, the wrong people? As they grow closer to solving the mystery - the dangers increase.

I loved both Ashton and Willow as narrators. Each of their voices added something unique to the story and their chemistry was off the charts! For years Willow was snubbed by the entirety of her town for defending who they believed to be a murderer. But she never wavered in her belief of his innocence and I have mad respect for this girl on that account alone. Ashton is a perfect concoction for me and I couldn't help but fall in love with him. Dark and broody, little bit of bad boy, fierce protectiveness, and a bit of sweetness thrown in just to trip you up. The mystery aspect kept me guessing for awhile but I did still figure it out fairly early on. This absolutely did not take away from the enjoyment of the book.

Overall, I thought Gilt Hollow was a very entertaining read and quite frankly deserves more attention than it's received so far. I believe this book will appeal to a lot of young readers who enjoy a good mystery with a side of romance.

*Huge thanks to the author for sending me a copy to review!*

The new young-adult novel Gilt Hollow is a bit of a departure from what Lorie Langdon usually writes. I enjoyed the Doon series that she co-wrote with Carey Corp, as it was a light, fun fantasy series. But as a fan of darker stories, I gotta say... I'm digging Lorie's step into the mystery genre. What she offers here is an engaging story that is as equal parts cozy as it is thrilling.

The story follows two characters: Ashton and Willow. It starts off with Ashton being released from juvie. He was wrongly convicted of murdering his best friend when he was 14 years old, though he's the only one in the system who believes he is not guilty. But, due to outstanding behavior, he is released with high supervision. He decides to use this second chance at a life to go back to Gilt Hollow, his home town, and clear his name... and also seek revenge on those who robbed so many years from his life.

The other character is Ashton's childhood best friend, Willow. After she stood up for Ashton, most people in Gilt Hollow shunned her. Now she's trying to make a new life for herself with her brother and mom, who just became the caretaker of Ashton's estate. Little does Willow know that Ashton is coming back to town, but he isn't the same person he was years ago. As they try to rekindle their friendship, the real killer is taking strides to make sure Ashton gets locked up again, this time for good, even if it means killing again.

My thoughts:
The writing: Lorie Langdon's writing flows nicely and makes for a fast read. While the story has a darker feel than her previous work, there's still that welcoming coziness that Lorie always provides. It makes for a comfortable stay in Gilt Hollow.

Characters: A lot of female protagonists in YA lately have come across as whinny or too dramatic, but that is not the case here. Willow is a normal teenage girl who, under the circumstances with Ashton and her father passing away, has been forced to grow up fairly quickly. She's mature but not so much that she's unbelievable as a teenager. Also, she is strong-willed, but not insensitive. She has vulnerabilities that set her back, but she is determined to not linger on them and instead strive ahead. For instance, she has terrible panic attacks, but instead of letting them pull her under, she fights through them and moves on.

Ashton was a good character too. I was worried he'd come across as too brooding, but while he has anger issues, he's just a normal guy who has had it very rough. What's great to see is the amount of growth he goes through by he end of the book.

The setting: This was my favorite part of Gilt Hollow. The town is just so dang charming and cozy. The fact that it takes place in the autumn season just makes it even better. I loved the descriptions of the town and the colorful leaves and the fall time treats... not to mention the epic Halloween party that ends the novel on a climatic and spooky note. It reminded me very much of a slasher film or one of the Point Horror novels I would have read in the 90s. So much fun.

One other thing I liked was Lorie's description of Willow's panic attacks. As someone who has been there before, it felt very real and I was able to connect with Willow on that.

In the end, this was a very entertaining thriller and I highly recommend pre-ordering it before it is released. It will be a good choice for any chilly Fall day.

An interesting mix of YA romance and suspense. It's quite an intriguing read because even though I was contemplating about ditching it several times, something interesting will happen until I'm already halfway through.

I would have enjoyed it more though had the pacing been quicker since I dove into the book, expecting a mystery but it read more like a YA contemporary romance with a little thriller at the latter part of the story. Nevertheless, it was still a satisfactory read as long as you manage your expectations.

I was so suprised with Gilt Hollow! I loved it! My two favorite things from this book's were the charaters as well as the pacing. I loved Wil & Ash's complicated relationship. So. Cute. The pacing was amazing! I got into the story almost immediately! Each time I would pick up the book again I had no problems what so ever to get back into the world of Glit Hollow. Because of this I'd definatly recommend it. Gilt Hollow is honestly not getting enough attention that it deserves.

One thing that I was disappointed with was the ending! I felt that it wrapped up way to quickly and there wasn't much of a things becoming resolved. I wanted to read more about what happened to Willow and Ashton's family. The towns reaction. There should have been SO much more guilt then what we were told about.

Thanks goes out to the author for sending me a beautiful copy of this book! I loved reading it!

Full disclosure: I read all of Lorie's work before it goes to print and am a huge fan of her talent. Her first YA suspense novel gripped me from page one. I loved the romantic tension between Willow and Ashton. Hopefully we'll get another story from Gilt Hollow soon.

Real rating: 3.5 stars

Surprisingly compelling mystery novel I didn’t expect to like but enjoyed tremendously. My inner Nancy Drew is cheering with approval.

Gilt Hollow is told from duo POV of Ash and Willow. Four years ago Ash was convicted for the murder of his best friend, and he spent four years in juvie for the crime he didn't commit, or so he says. Willow is Ash's childhood friend and the only person who believes Ash is innocent. But Ash had changed in the four years he was missing; he is more violent and impulsive, and suddenly Willow is not so sure about his innocence. But what if Ash is right and the true killer is still loose?

I know what you are thinking right now: it sounds just like any other romantic suspense YA book you've read before and you will be right - partly. Yes, there were some cliches at the beginning, and I rolled my eyes more than once, but the more I read, the more story was growing on me. Willow and Ash won my sympathy and I was cheering for these two damaged teenagers to find justice and have their happy ending.

There was no slut shaming, unnecessary angst or any love triangles I so hate in YA. All characters were reliable and you wanted to go along with them; to understand their motives. What I loved most is the strong movie-like vibe as if you are watching something similar to the "Scream", and you shiver with dread when the killer is lurking nearby. Gilt Hollow is such a haunted town, add to that a classic Halloween party and you've got your brand recipe of a quality teen thriller.

Plus, a big surprise for me was the writing: absolutely reliable language, where you didn't want to trash something because you couldn't stand the voice of the characters. I will absolutely check Lorie Langdon's other books!

Bottom line: if you are looking for something entertaining and intense to keep you busy during a rainy or snowy weekend - Gilt Hollow is a perfect read filled with smart characters, suspense and romantic angst to sweeten the deal. Recommended!

To say I’m a fan of Lorie Langdon’s work is an understatement. Ever since reading the enthralling Doon series, I have kept up with all the latest news. When I heard that she was soon to be releasing a new YA mystery novel, I literally screamed. When I saw the gorgeous cover, again I shouted in excitement. When I met Lorie Langdon at BookCon and completely by surprise received an ARC copy of Gilt Hollow, you can bet I totally squealed my head off like a crazy person. So it shouldn’t surprise you at all that I bulldozed my way through this book as though my life depended on it and yes – I loved it!

For four years, Willow Lamott has done her best to fade into the background in order to shield herself from the daily reproof she faces in the small town of Gilt Hollow. Ever since that fateful day when Willow’s best friend Ashton Keller was convicted of killing one of his buddies, she never stopped sticking up for him or believing in his innocence. But after never hearing back after writing to him in juvie, Willow feels completely alone…until the day Ashton saunters his way back into town. Ashton is determined to get his revenge at whoever let him take the fall that day. What he doesn’t expect is for Willow to sneak her way back into his hardened heart. Together they work to clear his name, but the closer they get to the truth the more things start to get messy. Can Willow really trust Ash, the boy who holds her heart but shows glimpses of an unmistakable rage? And did Ashton make a mistake in coming to Gilt Hollow, when everyone he holds dear are threatened by his presence?

Enticing, romantic, and deliciously eerie–Gilt Hollow is one of those fast-paced novels that will keep you up all hours into the night! I was totally engrossed in Willow and Ashton’s world. The eclectic, somewhat creepy town of Gilt Hollow made the perfect backdrop in this thrilling tale. Filled with all those wonderful hold-your-breath suspenseful moments, I was questioning each of the characters at every turn. It felt like a “whodunit” which was awesome since I love me a good ol’ mystery. And trust me, there were plenty of those “OMG” moments to keep you guessing!

Though reserved, Willow’s fierce loyalty and consequent bravery made her one heck of a heroine. And don’t get me started on the alluring Ashton Keller! A sigh-worthy love interest, his protective nature and hero-like qualities in spite of the bad boy facade made me #TeamKeller all the way. I fangirled my way through each and every scene with him – just ask my little sister and she’ll tell you! In fact, as soon as I was done reading this fabulous book, I urged her to read it knowing she’d love it too. She read it in one day and adored it as much as I did! I think she gets her speed-reading skills from me. *wink*

A perfect read for a rainy day and a cozy sweater, Lorie Langdon has gone above and beyond with her latest title. Gilt Hollow kept me guessing, had some seriously swoon-worthy characters, and captivated until the very last page. Highly recommended!

*This book was provided to me via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*

I loved this book so much!!!!! From the beginning to the end I was held captive by the magic of this book. I not only loved the main characters Willow and Ashton, as well as their names, but their voices also seemed authentic and real. I loved the opening and how the story unfolded and, like a good mystery book, it kept me guessing until the end about who'd done it (murdered Daniel). Ashton was my favourite character as he was so captivating (although Willow was a close second. She just didn't have the brooding bad boy turn sensitive sweetie thing going on and her character didn't seem to be as well developed as Ashton's). He had many complex emotions that I felt were explored well within the book and the pacing was good. As well as all this the romance was also good although it wasn't an integral part of the book it was still present. I also liked the fact that Willow had complete faith in Ashton and that they were old friends meaning their romance wasn't insta love.

Overall this was an amazing book that I thoroughly enjoyed, so much so I may have stayed up to the wee hours of the morning reading and ditched homework for it.

Was Ashton the villain everyone believed him to be or the boy she'd fallen in love with?

I must confess that I was completely drawn to this book based on the haunting atmosphere of the front cover. Especially the figure shrouded in darkness in the background. Who was he? What was the significance of placing the female character in the foreground?

This is a mystery/thriller set in the contemporary period in a small town called Gilt Hollow. Like many American small towns, there is a history, echoed in the architecture, the statues in the park, and the citizens that gloss the pages of this story. At the center of the plot is recently released juvenile delinquent, Ashton Keller and his best friend, Willow Lamott. Ashton returns to clear his name, but the townspeople who has already served as judge and jury feel that all the young man really is- is T-R-O-U-B-L-E.

Willow, who feels rejected from her friend's long silence, is not sure how she stands on Ashton's return. Does he hate her? Why can't he see that she was the only one that believed in him when the whole town had turned against him? Most importantly, why would he return to Gilt Hollow? Will he ever forgive her? Can Willow ever forgive herself?

Inevitably, Willow and Ashton do find themselves drawn to one another and sparks do fly. But when Willow begins to receive threatening messages from an anonymous source, will she and Ashton be able to clear his name or will someone silence them forever?

Personally, I did feel that the plot was intriguing and I really felt empathy towards Ashton, who had been abandoned by everyone, including his own parents. I also felt a connection to Willow, a young woman who is trying to make her own voice heard, despite the danger that involvement with Ashton might bring. Both characters are upstanding, moral characters , and illustrate why we should never turn our backs on our friends.

There is plenty of teenage angst and what I like to call "Nicholas Spark" like romance between Willow and Ashton. Did it keep me engaged? Admittedly, my mind did wander here and there when the two characters were declaring their love for one another. After all, I was more focused on the mystery aspect of the story. Let's face it, I am not the main audience that this book was written for. So, as a teacher, I must ask " Would my 13-16 year olds want to read this book? Of course, they would! Knowing them as I do, they would finish the story in a night, come back to school and tell me " Oh Miss, it was such a beautiful love story!"

Overall, it was an enjoyable rainy Sunday afternoon treat! Look for it in late September!

I would like to thank NetGalley and Zonderkidz-Books for a free digital galley in exchange for an honest review.

GILT HOLLOW is a story about friendship and redemption for a teen wrongly accused of murder. Readers can expect to enjoy the small-town setting, suspenseful feel, great dialogue, and some serious chemistry. A great read for those who enjoy mystery, suspense with some sweet moments and romance mixed in!

I loved these characters! Willow and Ashton both have had to deal with the situation in different, but no less traumatizing, ways. I liked that everything wasn't easy for them because it came across as authentic, especially in the beginning when they're unsure of where they stand with each other. Their personalities are so opposite, but yet they compliment each other so well. I especially loved their banter! It was so fun!! Then there was also the sizzling chemistry. I also really liked all the side characters, particularly Willow's friend Lisa and Willow's mom.

I appreciated how well the story was balanced. It doesn't feel overly heavy even though you can feel a constant undercurrent of danger. There was humor, friendship, family, great dialogue, and romance, balanced with information about the murder, trying to figure out who was the villain, and then the constant danger Wil and Ash are in.

I would have liked to have had a little more development in some areas. I also found that a few things didn't quite work for me, but they were minimal.

In the end, was it what I wished for? I wasn't sure what to expect from this one, but it ended up being a very engrossing read. I'm looking forward to seeing what the author will be releasing next!

Content: Some innuendo and violence.
Source: Received a complimentary ARC from the publisher through the tour host, which did not affect my review in any way.

Bad writing distracts me. When I have to stop reading to shake my head in disbelief of the writing, I can't concentrate on the story. GILT HOLLOW is the second book in a row I've read that's trying to drown me in similes, adjectives & adverbs, using 50 words when 5 would suffice and using words awkwardly.

"Perusing clothes she couldn't afford was not her idea of fun".

The plot had too many convenient coincidences which felt contrived. Lorie Langdon couldn't have done even a google research on protocol for juvenile detention.

I did like Willow and Ashton, although their characters lacked depth. I only finished the book because I wanted to know if m theories were true. They were.

I got GILT HOLLOW for $1.99 on a one day Kindle Deal. I wouldn't recommend paying more for it.

When I first saw this book I had my doubts. Just from the cover, it seemed like a thrilling book that would keep me awake to the early hours of the morning. I wasn't sure if I'd like it or if it'd turn out to be a cliche romance novel.
But as they say, don't judge a book by its cover.

First off, I'm a sucker for the bad boy characters (just take a look at my little Asher over there) and Ashton was everything and more.
Secondly, Willow was surprisingly relatable. Sure, I haven't dated a criminal, but Willow's character in general. She is organized, she has real emotions, and she doubts herself. Who wouldn't love her?

Gilt Hollow reminded me a lot of my novel that I'm writing, and it totally helped me out. I have a ton of scene ideas that I probably never knew I should have, plus Willow and Ashton are a lot like Micah and Asher.

When I read it, I almost read it in one sitting. Sure, I woke up super tired for school but it was worth it. Not only did I read the best book ever, but I also read something beneficial to my novel.

If no one has read this book before, you all are missing out and must read it right away.

GAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!! This book. The feels. The emotions. SO GOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!

Why did there have to be language??? I almost gave it three stars because of the language but the story, the characters, the amazing plot... Yeah, I had to give it four. Everything about this story was just magnificent!! There are no words to describe how amazing it was. And the mystery was equal parts thrilling, scary, and keep-you-on-your-toes suspense. Even at the end I was still guessing who the murderer was!!

I loved this. So much. I hate that there had to be content warnings because otherwise this would so go on my favorites list. And Ashton... Oh, Ashton. He made this book what it is.

I absolutely love Lorie Langdon as both a person and an author. I've had the pleasure of meeting her four times because she's an Ohio author and attends all of the Ohio author events. Each time it's so nice talking to her about her books and I definitely couldn't wait for the chance to read her newest release!

Ever since Willow's best friend was sent to jail for murdering one of their classmates, no one has let Willow forget. Willow has tried to continue on with her life, but when Ashton shows back up in Gilt Hollow determined to find out who really committed the murder he was found guilty for, Willow finds herself drawn back into her best friend's world. Ashton will do anything to show Willow he's the good guy he was before he went away. The closer they get to uncovering the truth about the murder four years ago, though, the more danger seems to follow them around every corner…

For the start of fall, this book was the perfect book to pick up. Talk about creepy! Ever since Ashton came back into town, Willow has been seeing some spooky things and receiving some spooky messages. I was definitely intrigued by the whole mystery behind who really committed the murder and who was trying to sabotage Ashton and get him sent back to jail. There were a lot of eery moments where you didn't know who was going to pop up around the corner or if the characters were going to make it out alive.

Of course, me being me, I was in this one for the romance and I really adored Ashton and Willow's relationship. Willow wrote to Ashton while he was in jail and it was so cute watching them get to know each other now that they were older and more mature. And how yummy Ashton had gotten since he was in jail? Yeah, no wonder Willow started to feel butterflies whenever he was around! I loved how they teamed up to solve the mysteries plaguing Gilt Hollow and how determined Willow was to help him, no matter how dangerous things became.

Overall, I really enjoyed Lorie Langdon's newest novel. While I felt like the big reveal could have been more *wow* at the end, I still really enjoyed the mystery, the suspense, and the adorable romance. If you're looking for a spooky read this fall and really love that good romance in your stories, you have to check out Gilt Hollow!

I’m not sure where to start with this review because I loved this book SO MUCH!

Ashton and Willow are AMAZING, and I love and connect with both of them equally SO MUCH, and just the things they go through—the trials, tests, and judgments—is truly heartbreaking and I just ached and FELT for them so much.

Willow and Ashton’s friends to lovers romance was THE BEST and so, so beautiful and right and I love them together and how far they would go to defend and protect each other. Willow’s so loyal and stubborn about Ashton being good and Ashton just wanted to keep her and her family safe even if he had to leave her and I just love them so much okay?!?! The rest of the cast are colorful and great too and helped make the book come alive, but Willow and Ashton were by far the best. 🥰🥰🥰

Gilt Hollow itself is a cool place as I was totally not expecting it to be a hippie town but a regular small southern town like most crime books seem to be set in and I loved the different location. Also wouldn’t mind visiting it. ☺️

The hard topic of Ashton being convicted of murder and the fallout of that was REALLY hard to read but handled very, very well and made me think a lot even when I was supposed to be editing my own book and also get boiling mad at those who falsely accused Ashton and got away with it while ruining this kid’s life—just awful and totally unfair. 😡

The suspense and creep factor was TOP NOTCH (don’t read before bed 👀) and my heart was definitely pounding by the end as the killer (who I did NOT guess) closed in and we got a sword/knife duel in a CONTEMPORARY?!?! I totally did not see that coming and it was awesome!

I really wish this book was talked about more often because it’s AMAZING and I love it SO MUCH—one of my new all time favorites!

Content: murder and the false accusation of murder framed on a child; kissing (semi detailed); violence and blood (nothing over PG-13); mild suggestive comments; attempts to kill teens in various ways

4 Stars.

Gilt Hollow was a really fun, quick mystery read that was character driven and at the centre, a wonderful tale of forgiveness and acceptance. I won't deny that I absolutely adore the Doon series, also by Lorie Langdon (and Carey Corp) and I have to say that I now have another favourite couple - Willow and Ash!!!

Willow was a wonderful MC and I really loved reading her thoughts. She was intelligent, thoughtful, hard-working, loyal and her forgiveness towards Ash was really beautiful to read. Ash was another fantastic character and balances Willow really well - Willow is very thoughtful and careful and Ash is all action, action, action and just reacting. Ash's development from seeking revenge and his deep anger at being wronged felt real, and then when he gets closer to Willow again... wow. The development between those two was beautiful and wonderful and just... yeah, an adorable romance. As these two were childhood friends, I felt that the faster development suited the characters, and especially as they had to overcome all of the lies, mystery and strange stuff going down that it worked really well. Then, the 'I-love-you' scene (with Ash as the Man in Black) was the cutest!!!!

The mystery and revenge plot was great! I enjoyed reading how everything unravelled and the back and forth of who had done it. In particular, I loved how Willow was engaged with the mystery and searching for the truth, rather than just Ash doing it all himself. That they tackled it together really made glad!!

All in all, I can't recommend Gilt Hollow enough as a great read (and I want to plug the Doon series as well) especially if you enjoy intriguing mystery tales, cute romance and a fun setting, then pick this book up!!

3.5 stars! YA romantic suspense that kept me guessing until the last few chapters. This is also a murder mystery with teenagers as the possible suspects, gulp.

I thought the pacing was good and there’s a lot of build up of each character for a clear picture of good and bad.

But what kept me me turning the pages was the budding love story between Willow and Ashton that was somehow sweet and untainted. She makes him want to be a better person and he helps her to be more carefree.

But someone doesn’t want them to be have a HEA, and finding out the true killer could cost them their lives. Dun dun dun!

Man, I was so ready to like this one. But alas, my recent streak of unfinished books seems on the rise.
All I wanted was an intense mystery, maybe a good romance as a subplot and perhaps some good old plot twists along the way.
What do I get? A sappy-ass romance (I'm talking cringe worthy dialogue here), an ending you could see coming from a mile off (I didnt finish the book but I bet I have the ending pegged, not that I care either way) and riddled with events that seemed forced with the soul purpose of cleanly wrapping up issues that came along the way. Case in point, when Ash, Willow and Willows mum are discussing Ash's living arrangements, Willows little brother Rainn just HAPPENS to do find himself hanging of the roof in a life-or-death situation, and Ash HAPPENS to adeptly scale the walls and get to him and they both HAPPEN to fall but not get seriously injured and Willows mum HAPPENS to take this moment to tell Ash, why yes you can live with us now, even though not a page before she was adamant he was a total psychopath. Umm....ok?
Please God just give me a good book next

Gilt Hollow by Lorie Langdon – Atmospheric Young Adult Whodunit

Four years ago, Ashton Keller was accused of murder. Four years ago, all Ashton wanted to be worried about was surviving his first year of high school… and girls. More specifically, his best friend Willow Lamont. Now four years later, Ashton is released from juvenile detention with revenge on the mind little realizing how his conviction altered and damaged Willow and her family.

Prepared for indifference towards everyone he once knew, nearly as soon as Ashton sets foot back in Gilt Hollow, everything changes.

From the moment I read about this novel (likely when its haunting cover was revealed) I knew it was something I’d need to add to my must read list. The premise sounded too gripping to pass up. When I received a copy to review, I was grateful to have the opportunity to discover its intricate mysteries. Inside these page one such quandary lies.

Marketed to the YA genre, the voice of this book compliments the genre wonderfully without being too immature. The attraction of romance is present as are the passionate feelings the leading characters have for one another. Those who like sizzling romance (of the YA variety) will have their wish fulfilled with this novel. Beyond that there is more to this book than the pop culture references and romantic entanglements.

The character arcs were quite good. I appreciated what each of them had to overcome in order to, in some sense, find themselves again. What does this mean? In Ashton’s case it’s simply that he was absent from the lives of those he cared about for a lengthy period of time. In the resulting space in-between, he had mistakenly assumed everyone had written him off which meant he adopted an attitude of self-reliance. Upon his arrival back in Gilt Hollow, he no longer has an honest or accurate concept of what those he left behind went through. Similarly Willow is jaded (following her personal experiences) and withdrawn leaving her vulnerable to spiteful comments and attitudes.

Though they are (for this reader) vitally important, there is more to consider and look at beyond the characters. Driving this story are the questions and mystery surrounding Ashton’s past, and whether or not he's guilty or capable of murder. The twists and sometimes chilling scenarios are sure to keep you rapidly flipping those pages. Gilt Hollow is an atmospheric young adult whodunit that’s perfect for those who crave an old-fashioned mystery, and as a bonus, it's perfect reading for the fall season.

Sincere thanks to the publisher for providing a copy of this book; opinions are my own.

Four years ago, Willow’s best friend, Ashton, was sent to Juvenile Detention for manslaughter. She hasn’t heard anything from him in all that time, though she sent him dozens of letters and defended his innocence to anyone who would listen. Now, though, Ashton has been released from prison and is coming back to their town Gilt Hollow for revenge against those who falsely accused him. What does that mean for Willow, who Ashton believes deserted him?

Gilt Hollow by Lorie Langdon was an interesting book. It is a YA romance and mystery, the characters seniors in high school and the story revolving around the mystery of who is really the murderer. The murder mystery part of the plot was very intriguing. Someone was framing Ashton for the weird things that were happening in the town and high school—a shredded football uniform, a robbery, and more. The characters eventually started working together to discover who was framing him, and their discoveries kept me in suspense throughout. The setting was wonderfully described and used to the story’s advantage, as were the events and quirks in the town. I wasn’t always sure what to make of the romance though. We have this young man bent on revenge and this sweet girl trying to survive high school, and it was cute how everything turned out. But there were times when I wondered, with the knowledge that Willow had at the time, whether she should want a relationship with Ashton at all. He seemed creepy and cruel at times, though some of that was just her perception of him without all the facts, and made me wonder about the healthiness of their relationship. Everything turned out all right at the end, though. The characters were perfect for each other.

I enjoyed this novel and recommend it to those who enjoy YA contemporary novels.

Thank you to NetGalley and Zonderkudz-Books and Blink for providing an advance copy of Gilt Hollow by Lorie Langdon. Mysteries are my favorite genre and teen mysteries like Gilt Hollow will be a favorite for YA readers. Lorie Langdon’s small town of Gilt Hollow seems to be a nice town for all who live there but we find out very quickly there are many lies, secrets, and threats that could shatter this small town along with Willow and those she loves. Willow Lamott grew up inseparable from Ashton Keller. Willow continued to stand up for Ashton when his friend dies at a favorite watering hole with Ashton taking the responsibility while his three friends blame him for pushing Danny off the cliff. It is after spending four hellish years in juvie that a changed Ashton returns to Gilt Hollow to find the real killer. I could not put down this suspenseful mystery with the town and high school hating Ashton, causing Willow to question her feelings for Ashton, all the while confiding to him about threatening texts and notes. I kept turning the pages as the clues seem to once again condemn Ashton with the police taking him in for questioning time and time again. Langdon did an awesome job of creating rules follower, A-type Willlow, and hero, Ashton, who can’t always harness his rage and digs deeper holes for himself. I loved following their drama, ached for the fear and frustration these teens worked through to try to follow clues and find answers to lies, mysteries, and murder. This is a riveting thriller and will keep YA mystery lovers turning the pages; highly recommended! #yearofya

I can't believe I enjoyed this book. To be honest, I only requested to review this book because I liked Lorie Langdon's work in the series Doon. I seriously enjoyed this book.
I can't say that I wasn't freaked out at times, but it was good! Okay, so the only time I was really freaked out was during the clown scene. I do not like clowns so that part was a little scary. Actually, this is how I came to not like clowns. A little while ago, my three sisters and I were telling ghost stories. I was so scared when one of them told a story about a clown in a basement. It just so happened that my bedroom is in the downstairs or basement of the house. I finally went to bed, but when I got up in the morning my brother and sister haunted me with clowns. The computer's back screen was a creepy clown. The marker board on the bedroom's door was a clown. From then on, I did not like clowns!
Anyway, enough about clowns. More about this book.
So, as you read in the beginning of this review, I was expecting not to like this book. I did! The characters, the setting, the plot, and everything else was so intriguing!
I didn't really like the cover. It made it seem like the book was going to be some zombie/half dead/something of the sort plot. 2 stars to you.
As for the book itself, I am definitely going to give it 4 stars!

This book certainly exceeded my expectations.
GILT HOLLOW is the first novel I have read by Lorie Langdon, and I enjoyed it enough to be sure that I'll soon be picking up her other works. This book is a Young Adult Mystery/Romance of some sort, although I have heard it been called a Thriller (?). And yes, it was very thrilling, page-turning read.
The story is set in the small fictitious town of Gilt Hollow. Its cozy autumnal background made for a perfect October read, which I happened to partake by chance, by the way. Langdon is very skilled at writing descriptive and realistic scenes, which only helped to make the story feel even more comfortable. Despite its whole dark-mystery-thriller-feel, I mean.
The characters were awesome. Both Willow Lamott and Ashton Keller have earned award medals from my heart :) Willow made a likable protagonist, and she was very relatable. Ashton, on the other hand, was yet another dark and brooding hero on my shelf of romantic stories... *thoughtful realization* BUT THAT'S OKAY, BECAUSE HE WAS AWESOME. Also, I loved Lisa's character and I really wish she had some more screen-time!!
The villain(s?) was (were?) perfectly villainous! And a little over-the-top too, actually, but of course that would have to be the case to fit in with the storyline. Which is fine by me.
Some of the content was a little suggestive, but it was kept to a slight minimum and nothing really happened, only hinted at. There was some violence, but it was not elaborated on or glorified, even though it could be considered a little graphic for some. However, overall it was a fairly clean read, so, four stars.
