ARC REVIEW

“Maybe our relationship isn't as crazy as it seems
Maybe that's what happens when a tornado meets a volcano
All I know is I love you too much to walk away🎶🎵”

This is a story about forbidden love, because apparently these two couldn’t just fall for each other like normal people. Nope. Rosa is a hit woman, Nazim is a mob enforcer, and together they have enough scars, trauma, and emotional baggage to keep a hospital, a therapist, and probably an entire pharmacy busy for years.

These two are working together again, and this time they’re determined to fight for their relationship. Which sounds romantic until you remember they’re both dangerous professionals who are much better at dealing with bullets and torture than feelings.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t immediately fall head over heels for this book. It took a little while to grab my attention, and in the beginning I was wondering where this was all going. But once it finally hooked me, I was in it to win it. The story picked up, the chemistry started doing its thing, and suddenly I was invested in these two damaged people trying to figure out how to love each other. Without killing anyone… well they are hit people so….

I do wonder if I would have enjoyed this one even more if I had read the first book in the series. Since this is book two, there were definitely moments when I felt like I was playing catch up. You can’t see the forest for the trees. And apparently I was standing in the middle of this particular forest wondering, “Wait…who are these people, and why do they have so many problems?”

That said, once everything started falling into place, I really enjoyed the ride. Forbidden love, danger, trauma, torture , chemistry, and two people who apparently believe that a peaceful relationship is vastly overrated.

Thanks to Book Sirens for sending me an advanced copy to read and review.

This one pulls you in from the very first line. Rosa and Nazim aren’t your typical couple—she’s a survivor turned ruthless hitwoman for the Pedrino crime syndicate, still carrying every scar from what she went through in the military. He’s the family’s top enforcer, bred to obey, never questioning his place… until he meets her.

Their connection feels raw and real, like two broken pieces fitting together even when they know they shouldn’t. Walking away to keep them both safe was the hardest thing Rosa ever did, and Nazim never quite recovered from her vanishing without a word. So when they’re thrown together again on a high-stakes job, all that old tension and chemistry comes rushing back—just as lies and hidden truths start unravelling everything they thought they knew about the family they both serve.

It’s fast-paced, sharp, and keeps you guessing right up to the end. There’s plenty of breath-holding action, but what really sticks with you is how much they’re willing to risk for each other when the whole world feels like it’s out to get them. Perfect if you like your romance dark, dangerous, and impossible to put down.

This book had me hooked from the first page and didn’t let go until the end and now I am not so patiently waiting for book two.

The Hitwoman has two of the most compelling characters I have read in a long time, Rosa and Naz. Both ruthless killers with a grudge and score to settle.
Rosa and Naz are from opposing teams making their love not only forbidden but dangerous. Three years ago, they walked away from each other, a hit they are both contracted to perform brings them back together.

Rosa is a wonderfully layered character, at one moment she is as tough as nails and the next as fragile as glass. Watching her fight for what she wanted was breathtaking at time.
Nazim is a man who’s past has left him empty until he met his heart. Letting her go once nearly killed his and he will not allow that to happen again.

The Hitwoman is full of drama, danger, treachery and love. It is a fast-paced novella that will have your heart racing. Donna knows how to weave a tale and this one was flawless.
I absolutely loved Rosa and Naz their love for each other jumped off the pages and watching them overcome their pasts and their presents had me swooning. We also got to see some of our favourite Royales which had me smiling.

Do yourself a favour and preorder this amazing book today, it is being released on the 30th of September.

This dark mafia read has so many layers. The FMC and MMC have the most delicious chemistry and the intimacy between them had me swooning. There’s a scene where the FMC oils the MMC’s (textured) hair and it gave me butterflies. Definitely check your trigger warnings because this one is viscerally dark at times. It’s part of a series of interconnected standalones and while it can be read on its own, I do wish I had come into it with more context.

Overall I enjoyed myself and will likely dive back into the series so I can gain a better understanding of these characters and their circumstances.

The Hitwoman is definitely not a story about two people who believe in taking the easy road. Rosa is a hitwoman, Nazim is a mob enforcer, and between the two of them, they have enough scars, secrets, trauma, and dangerous enemies to make a peaceful second chance at love seem almost impossible.

And yet somehow, these two just make sense together.

Rosa and Nazim loved each other before, but circumstances forced them apart. When a new job unexpectedly brings them back into each other's lives, it quickly becomes obvious that three years apart did absolutely nothing to erase what they feel for one another. This time, though, walking away isn't quite so easy—and neither of them seems particularly interested in doing it again.

I really liked the contrast in both characters. Rosa can be incredibly tough and ruthless when she needs to be, but there is also a vulnerable side to her shaped by everything she has survived. Nazim has spent his life being the loyal weapon his family expects him to be, but Rosa is the person who makes him question whether loyalty to the Pedrinos should cost him the woman he loves.

I will admit this one took me a little while to get into. During the beginning, I wasn't completely sure where everything was going or how all the different people and relationships fit together. Since this is the second book in the series, I do wonder if reading the first book beforehand would have given me more context. There were definitely a few moments when I felt like I had wandered into the middle of a very complicated family situation and everyone else already knew the secrets. 😂

But once the pieces started falling into place, I was hooked.

The story picks up with danger, betrayal, family secrets, old wounds, and plenty of chemistry between Rosa and Nazim. These are two people who are much better at handling guns, threats, and dangerous assignments than they are at dealing with feelings, which makes watching them finally fight *for* their relationship instead of running from it even more satisfying.

The Hitwoman ended up being an intense second-chance forbidden romance filled with danger, loyalty, betrayal, and two damaged people trying to decide what—and who—is worth risking everything for. It may have taken me a little time to find my footing, but once I did, I really enjoyed the ride.

Apparently when a tornado meets a volcano, happily ever after is going to require a few casualties along the way.

Rosa is back, and she is spending time with the closest thing she has to a family. Ones who have had her back, have seen her at her lowest, and made sure she came out the other side.

Since leaving the military, she has become a specialist in what she does, a hitwoman for hire. But her past is catching up with her. She changed the parameters of a job without informing her contractor when she saw who the target was. But the contractor was no small fry; he is the head of the Pedrino cartel.

Nazim is an enforcer for the Pedrino family. He was taken in by Carmen, Leo and Joseph's mother, who was the head of the cartel originally. He is like a brother to them, and Carmen, who strove for control, made all 3 boys' lives hell. Nazim and Joseph had a close relationship; he got him in a way the rest of the family, and others, didn't. The only other person he was especially close to, the one whom he loved but who left, was Rosa.

Rosa and Nazim's paths cross again. Leo needs answers, and the Outlaw Royales may have the answers. Loyalty means everything to Leo; his need for control outstrips his mother's. He will use any means and anyone necessary to achieve this.

Rosa and Nazim may love each other, but she knows how deep Leo's claws dig into him. She lost out to him once; she can't put herself through that again. Plus, can she totally trust him because of his ties to Leo? When things come to a head. Rosa needs to make a choice, one that keeps others safe.

Love, family, and loyalty are worth fighting for, especially when jealousy rears its ugly head.

Couldn't put it down! Love how dark and heavy things are getting in this series - I think this is Donna's darkest book yet, and I ate it up. I always wonder how she manages to pack such a punch into a novella but she did it again with this book. I loved the concept of a gun-for-hire FMC and the deadly mafia enforcer MMC. I was obsessed with that Animal Kingdom vibe Naz's family dynamics was giving. Rosa's military background made her the ultimate hitwoman. These two were both a perfect match and the worst possible people to fall in love with each other. I was captivated by the side plots around Naz's brother's disappearance, and his other brother Leo's depraved and psychotic personality and plans. Naz and Rosa's chemistry is off the charts, but there's such an ease between them, like I could feel that they're each others' safe place amidst all this death and evil.
I loved the tie ins with the Royales series, and especially getting to see King, Carmen and their daughter be a part of Rosa's life and that found family.
There were action and twists, romance, heat and danger - it was just too good not to give it 5 stars!

This is my favourite book from Donna Costello. It pulls you in from the very start.

Rosa and Nazim have both had a traumatising past. Rosa was abused by a commanding officer and took her brutal revenge on him and the others that were complicit in her assault. Nazim was raised by a mafia family the Pedrino’s but not blood related, they forced him into becoming a brutal killer and top enforcer for them.

They had loved each other but were forced to separate and now have crossed paths again in a contract kill. They clearly still have the chemistry and the need for intimacy as neither seem to be able to let down their defenses for anyone else. They both still carry a lot of scars from their past, but this time feels different, they can see the lies they’ve been told and now want to change what comes next, but can they trust each other after all these years?

This is a fast-paced novella that leaves us with a bit of a cliffhanger. The thing that really made it for me was what they were both willing to do and risk for each other and those they care about. They are both so loyal to those that matter that it is clear as they race off to do all they can to protect Joseph.

Rosa is such a great character, tough on the outside, and nice and kind on the inside. She has the dream that many people do. To find love and maybe even become a mom. But she’s tangled up in a world that she is constantly at risk of losing her life, getting caught, and/or being on the run. It’s not like she has a problem meeting someone special. She’s already met him. Nazim is part of the Pedrino family and is not expected to think, only to follow orders. She knows a life with Nazim is impossible, he is married to the family business against his wishes. His passions are painting and Rosa.
This is a suspenseful thriller with some romance. It’s an intense quick read that will have you crossing your fingers for Rosa and Nazim to find their happily ever after.
One of my favorite parts is when she removes his braids and massages his scalp.

The Hitwomen is romance in the dark. Enforcer Nas & hitwoman Rosa crave sweetness out of the darkness that led them to the lives they lead. When these lovers unite, you are definitely cheering them on.

When mistakes come back to hurt the people they love, you feel for the struggle both endure to do the right thing & come out winners. Did I rejoice when Nas chose his woman over blind loyalty? Absolutely!

This is a quick read that links both the Mafia & biker worlds with romance & a joint mission if you need something entertaining.

I enjoyed this one very much. The book is very short but very full. You get a lot of story in these few pages and they are well written and leave you wanting more.

After an assault in the military that is covered up by the higher ups Rosa becomes a gun for higher until she is able to extract her vengeance. However she is still left with internal battle scars and try as she might has a difficult time getting free of her past. Nazim is taken in by the same evil family that employed Rosa and has been twisted until they both are left with so much trauma and hate to deal with. They try to break away but keep getting pulled back in

This book is one full of action, twists, suspense and emotions. Rosa is doing what she does best, she is strong willed and full of fierce determination, but when her past comes back things get twisted and a target changes everything. Nazim is an enforcer for the Pedrino family; the closeness causes her to not trust him when they are thrown back together. How can she choose him and keep everyone safe especially when he makes it clear he won't lose her again. The story is a quick read and fast paced and will keep you on the edge of your seat with the suspense.

Naz and Rosa’s second-chance story is filled with chemistry, trust issues, and questions of loyalty. Their past relationship ended when Rosa doubted Naz would ever break from his family’s orders. When they meet again, old feelings resurface along with old doubts. A solid second-chance romance with an intriguing setup for the next book!.

Great short story; it is good to see light existing inside the protagonist's darkness, knowing the horrors they endured. It's emotionally satisfying that they could reconnect.
There is some closure regarding the dangerous men, but the danger is not over, as they have to save someone together in another story.

Rosa and Nazim are not your average lovers.
They’re trained killers, fighting the demons of their past, present, and future.
But their love is unshakable.
Their story full of secrets, danger, and pain.
Strap in for the ride! I was on the edge of my seat, & hooked from the beginning!
I can’t wait to see what happens next!

When Love Finds Its Way Back….

The Hitwoman surprised me with how much heart it carries underneath all the danger, violence and darkness. I went into this expecting a fast and brutal hitwoman story, but what stayed with me most was Rosa and Naz. There is something deeply emotional about two people who have already lost so much and still somehow find their way back toward each other. Rosa is tough but she is also carrying a huge amount of pain, and I loved seeing the softer parts of her come through when she is around Luna and Naz. Naz was just as interesting to me because beneath all that controlled violence is a man who clearly wants something he has almost convinced himself he cannot have. Their chemistry felt intense without losing the feeling that there was real history between them. I also really enjoyed the contrast between the warmth of the quieter moments and the danger surrounding them. One minute I was enjoying a tender scene and the next I was completely on edge wondering who was going to make the next move. The family connections and betrayals added another layer that kept me invested. By the end I felt like I had been through an emotional roller coaster with these two. Dark, passionate, dangerous and surprisingly tender, this was the kind of story that kept pulling me back in because I genuinely wanted to see whether Rosa and Naz could finally find something worth fighting for.

**Forbidden Love!**

The Hitwoman is the second book in The Pinehurst Series, and Rosa and Nazim’s story completely wrecked me in the best way!

Their love is emotional, raw, intense, and completely forbidden. These are two very broken, lost souls who have been hardened and made ruthless by the scars and trauma they carry from their pasts. Yet, despite everything they’ve endured, the connection between them has never truly disappeared.

Now that they find themselves working together again, secrets, lies, and betrayals are being exposed, forcing them to confront everything they’ve tried so hard to bury. But one thing remains unchanged—the love and connection between Rosa and Nazim is still there, just as intense, fierce, passionate, and dangerous as it has always been.

This time, walking away is no longer an option. They both know exactly what it would cost them, and they’re willing to fight until the very end and do whatever it takes to be together.

I honestly did not want Nazim and Rosa’s story to end! This book was action-packed from the very first page to the last. It was fast-paced, easy to read, and filled with suspense, danger, passion, and twists that kept me turning the pages to their HEA. I can’t wait to see what comes next in the series!

Wow! This novella had me completely hooked from the very first page. The tension, suspense, and emotion had me holding my breath the entire way through. Rosa immediately won me over with her strength, determination, and resilience. I loved that despite everything she faced, she never lost sight of her moral compass. Naz absolutely stole my heart. The way he loved Rosa and refused to lose her a second time was swoon-worthy, and I felt every bit of the conflict between the woman he loves and his loyalty to his family. The twists and turns kept coming, making it impossible to put down. Every chapter left me needing to know what would happen next, and the pace never let up. And that ending... wow. It completely took my breath away and left me desperate to find out what Donna has planned next. If you're looking for a gripping, emotional read packed with suspense, romance, and unforgettable characters, this is one you won't want to miss.

The Hitwoman by Donna Costello
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️

The story starts with a prologue which gives key information in the story. I love this. Once I read it I was thinking ‘hold on, why does that matter?’.
But it doesn’t lead straight into it, it’s left a mystery that’s slowly uncovered through the book and I thought that was an amazing way to play that.

In this novella, there is a lot of flashbacks which indicate key characteristics of some people, and a perfect amount of backstory for each character. For a book that is only 94 pages, there was thorough backstories for each character, and some great character progression.

Donna Costello has a wonderful way with words and can paint such detailed images with the way she describes scenes. I enjoyed this book, and am looking forward to continuing the story in Joseph’s book.

Thank you Donna for reaching out to me with this opportunity it was a pleasure to read!

The Hitwoman is a short, fast-paced, action-packed dark romance featuring trauma, second chances, forbidden love and secrets. It follows Rosa, an ex-military assassin who eliminates 'monsters,' and Naz, a mafia enforcer who has endured abuse and trauma.

They first met while working together in the mafia and their connection was undeniable. They lost touch when Rosa left. Years later, they cross paths again, and their passion reignites as if no time has passed, despite the drama that unfolds. This is a quick read you don't want to miss.

Arc review...these are my own thoughts and feelings

Well...this was an absolute roller-coaster of a ride.

I've been lucky to read for Donna for awhile now and was excited to read this new book.

Rosa and Naz...wow. Rosa is a total badass FMC and Naz well he loves her so much but torn by duty and a messed up "family" dynamic. This book was intense for sure. Loved the ending because well who doesn't love to see the bad guys get their comeuppance.

Grab it!

Rosa Ramos dealt with her trauma by becoming a gun-for-hire for the Pedrino crime family.
Nazim Pedrino, the family’s fiercely loyal enforcer shouldn't be who she fell in love with, but he was. I loved Nazim and Rosa together. I learned a couple things in this book that were spoilerish because I haven't read all the books, so I recognized some names, but I didn't know everything that happened. I really enjoyed this novella, and I know it is short because it is a novella. I just really wanted to stay with these characters longer. If you love a woman who is a survivor and deadly who falls for someone equally as deadly, but he also allows her to be vulnerable with him then you'll want to read this one.

The Hitwoman by Donna Costello

“As if you’re not the first thought I have every morning, as if you aren’t the thing I dream about every night.”

The Hitwoman is part of the Pinehurst series by Donna Costello. This is a forbidden love mafia romance packed with high-stakes tension, dark family secrets, and a romance that defies the odds.

“You’re alright now mi corazón, you’re safe.”

I really enjoyed the storyline in this book! I'm always a sucker for mafia romances, especially when the FMC is an absolute badass. I really loved both these characters, individually and of course together because who doesn't love a second romance am I right?

“I would fucking die for you, you know that?”

This was your classic mafia romance crammed into one short sweet and intense novella with a cliffhanger that I definitely was not expecting and definitely want to know more of now!

This is out on the 30th of September so go pre-order now and while you wait you can dive into Donna's Outlaw Royales Motorcycle club series!!

🖤 Assassin X Henchman
