Chaos Calls: a special ops/military romance

Rate this book
Valkyrie does not trust military men.
She’s been burned too many times.
So when she has to welcome six new male members to her unit, she resigns herself to the flood of sexist comments and misogynistic attitudes she’s become used to dealing with.
But perhaps there are a few exceptions to the rule. Six, to be exact.
And perhaps the quietest of the lot, the man who never removes his mask, is the biggest exception of them all.

*ARC Reader Review*

To preface, I already had this on pre-order and saw the ARC sign up so couldn’t resist!

This book was SUCH a good time! Slow burn, masked MMC, special ops romance with a FIERCE FMC.
Banter, found family & spice that HITS. This was a book that I couldn’t stop thinking about when I had to go to work, and I’m so glad I found Jess’ writing because it is DELECTABLE.
Need book two now, please & thank you.

Wow! What a great read!

!!Minor spoilers below!!

I loved this book. It was so funny and wholesome but also touched on very important and real problems!

The characters were all awesome and even if we didn’t get pretty much any backstory on them I feel like it wasn’t really needed. Lily’s character development was soo good! I loved that she accepted this group and learned how to lean on them given the history she had with the other men she had to deal at work. I loved her internal monologues, her witty attitude and I think she is very relatable and her fears and concerns are real and are not present just for the hell of it.

The found family aspect was so well done and I loved all the guys and I can’t wait to read their books too!

The plot is actually interesting and even though I’ve read books with similar plot lines I find that I don’t mind it at all. Probably because the setting is kinda new to me. Curious to see where the author is going with it.

My only complain is that I feel like Felix was kinda forgotten in this book? He was there at key points but sometimes when the scene described included everyone he was not mentioned and it gave me the feeling that the author forgot he existed. I hope we see more of him in the future books.

I am very excited about Logan’s and Emily’s story but I have to say that I hope Vince, Noah and Eli get a book. Only one book😇 iykyk😉

It seems that this will be an interconnected standalone series with a continuous plot and I love that! I hope we get a looooong epilogue at the end with everyones HEA!

I definitely recommend this book and I can’t wait for the second one to be released!

I don’t usually go for military Romances, but I had to go for this one, and it did not disappoint. I love how sarcastic the FMC is and how she doesn’t take stick from any of the lads, *cough, cough ear*. All of the characters have their role within the group setting and it wouldn’t be the same if one wasn’t there.

I love the character development with the FMC and how she goes from only trusting Logan as a male friend to trusting all 6 of her new team. And I love how protective they are on her behalf, they know she is fully capable of taking care of herself, but they are all very much touch-her-and-die, and she has to talk them down.

The MMC is just wow as well. I love how he goes from only trusting the 5 other lads he came to Delta with but also starts trusting the FMC as well. Like what do you mean he was just sat there without his mask, I love how he came to trust her. And the trust in her that she had so he could eat, just ugh, my heart just about melted!
The twists hit in the feels just right and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us next!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

ARC Review

Finished it and I’m still emotionally recovering like I just walked out of a mission I was not briefed for 😌📖🔥

This book had me hooked from page one. I kept saying “just one more chapter” and suddenly I was fully locked in, completely unable to put it down, and weirdly attached to an entire military unit like they were my people now.

The banter is elite—sharp, funny, effortless, the kind that makes you laugh out loud and immediately reread lines because they land that perfectly. It balances so well with the heavier moments too, where the humor slips away just enough to hit you right in the feels.

At its core, it’s about resilience, trust, and slowly learning how to let people in again without losing yourself. Somehow it stays funny, sharp, and completely addictive all the way through.

Fell hard for the whole team. Didn’t just read it, I lived in it for a while.

I did receive this as arc, but due to the end of school year, I have fallen a bit behind in reading. But I still wanted to leave an honest review.

Honestly, I love this book. I can't remember ever reading a military romance, but this was so good. It had found family, a slow burn romance, and very strong friendships. And because its in a military setting, the plot the Delta unit is sent on is a very heavy plot in thr story. A very important one, but not overly happy.

I do feel like its important to have a military romance with positive masculinity as a major feature of the story. Everybody had to overcome their own trauma in order to come together ❤️

Also this is not a why choose. Yes she is friends with seven men. And she only ends up with one. To find to which one, you need to read the book 😏

*I was lucky enough to receive and ARC of this book*

Military romance is not usually my go to, but I truly enjoyed the many themes in this plot: slow burn, touch her and ☠️, kick booty FMC, and maybe found family!

Lily is and has been the only (with the exception of the Doc) female is this base full of elite military groups. Some of the men have been less than welcoming, but after a very sad event, she was assigned a new team. Enter in a large and in charge, speaks very little, masked man...and his teammates of goofy but unruly men.

Lily and Jax have a slow to build relationship, where trust and feelings are slowly rooted in the new team and family like feels.

The spice was light, but I enjoyed the overall plot, and the set up for more books in the series. Can't wait to learn more about Logan ad Emily.

I really enjoyed this one.
The FMC was a badass which I always love. The MMC and the rest of the team respected her which is a rarity and was very enjoyable to read.
This was my first book by this author and I’m really excited for the next one of this series.
Was it perfect? No. There was some repetition that dragged me out of the story a bit, but honestly it was easy to gloss over when I was genuinely engaged in the story and wanting to see how it all played out.

Stayed up all night to finish this book. I was so tired at work but zero regrets 😅.

Book had be hooked from the start. I am obsessed with badass FMCs in special ops units. And Lily is probably my favorite so far!

Loved the entire Delta Unit. I literally fell for every single one! Eli is probably my favorite and I cannot wait to read the rest of this series.

Read along as a team learns each other, themselves, and their limits.
Between her frustration over being underestimated and her hatred of her basemates Valkyrie has enough going on when she has to work with me agents.
Chaos has a big secret, but maybe she can get it out of him.

These 2 give us something cute and sweet to read along with, and quite a few laughs along the way.

First time reading something like this and it was absolutely amazing to read.

Lily is such a bad ass especially dealing with all those men in a male dominated role.

I loved the team she was with and each of the guys were beautifully done, one character stuck out more for me and wanted to hug him, so damn cute but all were great and had their own quirks.

I can't wait for the next book to see more of these guys.
