I wasn't really vibing with the writing at first or the side characters and their joking.(I have not read books 1&2). Buuuuut, Gabe is such a sweetie pie that I stopped caring about anything else but him getting his HEA. 🥺

Dakota took a little longer for me to warm up to but I eventually got there too. I find it hard to read stories that have heavy subject matters when the writing doesn't dive deep into it, Dakota's trauma with 'jocks' felt a bit superficial.. and

I LOOOVVED that they dated, no miscommunication, no push and pull. 🥰

I enjoyed this more than a 3star read but it's not close enough to a 4 to round up. It's light-hearted and mostly fluffy but Dakota's trauma here makes it a bit hard to keep with the light feeling of the rest of the book, it felt out of place FOR ME. 😭

ALL MY STARS GO TO GABE,THAT CUTIE PATOOTIE GETTING SMITTEN SO EARLY. I adore characters who are all in once they are interested. And the fact that Gabe's only been interested in one other person really highlights how special Dakota is to him.🥺

For my safety pals;

2.75⭐ objectively, it's a solid story, but damn it, I'll round it down, because it didn't work, not for me.

This author is known for her storytelling style, which is quite predictable and that’s also why I keep coming back. I know what to expect, and I’m fine with that.

However, this book felt like it simply ran through all the usual tropes from her series without any variation, just ran through, quickly filling those pages without much effort of making them just a bit different and exciting.

🟢 Landscape worker / new guy in town, client
🔵 Gay/bi-awakening (more demi)
🟣 Some size difference
🟡 An introvert / extrovert (sunshine, jock type)
🟠 A kid
🟢 Age gap - 27 / 30 (somewhere around there, Gabe's older)
🌶️ Some sex, not many scenes, quite good; oral, rimming penetrative, flip; both vers

I really liked Gabe. He has this sunshiny, open personality that isn't annoying, he’s just charming in a very easy way and I did enjoy that. He’s also a dad and even though he doesn’t have his daughter with him all the time, she’s still pretty present in the story.

Gabe has had one serious relationship in his life, that's his ex-wife, and he hasn’t really been involved with anyone else in between. Then he meets Dakota, who has inherited a farmhouse in the countryside and is a complete introvert.

Gabe somehow manages to gently pry Dakota out of his shell and makes him open up, trust and yeah, really fall for him.

“This is Jackson— please ignore everything that comes out of his mouth.” Gabe laughs, and Jackson, who’s absolutely stunning— like Gabe has my full attention and attraction— but dayum. Honestly, they’re all gorgeous."

While working on projects at Dakota's home together, Gabe gets his bi-awakening (not that good), they start hooking up and before you know it, they’re in love.

And that’s kind of the issue for me, it all happens very fast. Too fast. Everything is very predictable, so I just didn’t feel much of anything while reading it.

It’s a good setting though and I’ll probably keep reading the books connected to Kensley, in fact, I’ll likely reread Oakley’s book, but at this point the books in this series and others connected to it are too similar.

Tropes: single dad, small town, hurt/comfort
Feels: 3/5
Steam*: 1.75/5
Kinks: n/a
Angst: low
HEA: HEA
Pairing: MM
Triggers/potential icks/content warnings/representation: homophobia, past bullying, demisexual MC, divorced MMC
Cheating between MCs: No
Any cheating: No (Gabe's ex-wife emotionally cheated on him though)
Other person drama: there's references to access, but neither of them are interested in anyone else once they meet

4 stars

Gabe is divorced with a 5-year-old daughter. His ex-wife is remarried and expecting a baby with her new husband. He knows they weren't a good match, he isn't in love with her, but he still hurting because his future is not what he planned. He works for Oakley, doing construction projects. And his new assignment is to build a greenhouse for a reclusive guy.

Dakota is 27, gay. He was bullied a lot as a kid / teen and it's made him afraid of social situations. He's a very reclusive guy. He is attracted to Gabe, and he wants to make the job take longer so he can spend more time with Gabe. They are both kind, sweet humans and they get along well. Gabe develops an attraction to Dakota, the first time he's ever been attracted to someone other than his ex-wife, and realizes he's probably demisexual. They start dating, and Dakota becomes a part of Gabe and his daughter's family unit. It's a sweet feel good romance.

This was a nice book. I liked that they were both caring people, and you could see that in the little things they did, the ways they smiled, the things they smiled at, the way they treated people and considered others' feelings. Gabe and Dakota bonding over Mavis was sweet. They had good chemistry. And Dakota was good with Amber. Amber was such a sweet child, loving flowers and kittens, not wanting to hurt spiders... but also how she made the adults work to meet her standards and that she would judge. Lol.

Some notable moments:

"She shrugs. “Do you looove him?” Her little voice is light and playful, a giggle falling from her mouth. I know she’s teasing me, but the feeling in my chest at her question, this light, floating feeling—the same one I get every time I’m around Dakota . . . I lean down closer to her and whisper, “Can you keep a secret?” She holds out her little pinky to me, and I smile, wrapping my pinky around hers as she nods. “I think I do.” She smiles and then yawns and settles back into her pillow. “Okay, but tell him we don’t kill spiders.”"

"Her wide eyes look up at me. “Don’t name them until I meet them, okay? I have ideas, but I need to meet them first.” I smile and hold up one hand, like I’m swearing on a Bible or something. “I promise.” “Okay, good. Thanks for the pancakes! I give them a nine.” “Just a nine?” I frown, and she cackles, putting her little hand on my arm like she’s trying to make me feel better. “You’ll get there.”"

*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.

**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.

it was a good Nicole never disappoints unless I don’t like the book!!!

https://ladiikeiii.wordpress.com/2026...

***Spoilers here and there***

Okay this wasn’t too bad. I enjoyed this book by Nicole Dykes. Like I always do her books always interested me.

I loved how Gabe found love again when he and Shelly fell out of love. Especially when she found someone new and had another child. While he was just sad the whole time. Especially when his daughter wanted her mom in the beginning.

But for him to meet Dakota at the right time in his life. I was happy for him. Because he needed that person to make him happy again and feel loved.

Same goes for Dakota especially with what he had to go through with the bullying and anything else. Since he was so afraid of going out until he met Gabe and Oakley crew. He also needed that in his life. I also knew that Gabe was going to move in with Dakota in the end. Amber (Gabe) daughter was going to love Dakota house more than her dad. Especially with Gabe loving it as well!!

I was glad everyone got along so well even though their (Gabe & Shelly) relationship didn’t worked out but they still was around each other and supported one another and liked the person each other date/married.

Guess who’d finished a series? Probably me!

It hasn’t been that hard to complete this series up, I’ve been talking about it since yesterday so you might now know, every books in this series are slightly short but still very complete regarding every aspects of the romance between the main characters.

"You do know that most of Oakley's Crew is queer as fuck, right? Like all of them. Like the owners are both men and are married. Crazy in love”.

As soon as I leaved the Oakley’s Crew, I am getting back and this time, with the final couple, Gabe and Dakota. It’s a little bit difficult for me to rate this boon because first and foremost, it is the end of the series but also, because I feel like every books of it, felt like slightly the same but just with different characters and issues, which can be very good though huh. Overall, the series in itself has been a real pleasure and to met our different MMCS and the complexities of their relationship on a lot of different subjects and levels, was very enjoyable and interesting. However, and this happened when I closed this final installment, I feel like I’ve been reading the same book but told in different POV with just little changes.

“I love this life we've made together, and though it was kind of a fast transition—one I never saw coming—| know this is where we were supposed to end up”.

So overall, what is my feelings towards the series? It is a really good one! Honestly, and as I’ve been saying this for all of the books before, if you’re looking for a fast paced series where you need small towns, different types of characters, well-written in their psychologies even if it’s short: this might be for you and you will I think enjoyed as much as I did.

The Oakley’s Crew series, again, has been a genuinely good discovery by an author that I knew, but not in this genre. And it top perfectly all of my expectations to be honest.

“Change can be difficult, and the transition isn't always smooth, but please know you can make it through anything. Be open to it and trust yourself”.

This was a cute read! I enjoyed the grumpy/sunshine vibe Dakota & Gabe had going at the start. I loved Amber. She was adorable and Shelly was a pretty cool ex wife I do have to say. This one moves a little faster then my perfected ( you all know I love a long drawn out slow burn 🤣🤭) it was a quick and easy read as always, nice and light hearted! Loveable characters and you know I’m a sucker for some animals

"“Because you love my kid. And that just makes me love you even more.” He says it like it’s the simplest thing in the world."

I don't normally enjoy kids in my spicy books but this little family made me cry happy tears. I love how gentle and accommodating all the adults are. I love how little Amber is growing up with nothing but love.

As with all ND books this one has several steamy scenes and low angst. no OM/ow drama etc

super sweet 💙

ARC REVIEW

Man nothing beats a single dad finally taking the time and figuring out his sexuality. I love how Nicole wrote Gabe’s journey and how beautiful his and Dakotas love was. It was very much so a slow burn, but so worth it because they were both so hesitant for their own reasons. But when they finally gave in 🥵 wow! And sweet little Amber just tied this little family together perfectly.

When I say that Nicole Dykes' books are my safe haven, I mean it! This author ALWAYS gives me the most beautiful stories and characters, she makes me have the best time with her books, and no matter how long I have to wait to read a new story, I know it will always be worth it. And that's exactly what happened with Gabe & Dakota: their love story was so much more adorable than I expected, I loved the pacing the author gave their relationship, the heartbreaking moments, and seeing the Crew members showing their unwavering support once again. It was definitely the best return to this series Nicole could have had, and I can't wait to read more.

Gabe is the character I wanted to read most since this series started because I knew he was going to break my heart, and he exceeded all my expectations! It was so sad to read him so lost after his divorce, feeling like he failed Shelly and constantly questioning his role as a dad, but at the same time, I really liked that Nicole gave me this character with such complex feelings, happy to see his ex-wife and daughter happy, but at the same time unable to help feeling like they're leaving him behind. I also enjoyed reading about him with the Crew, knowing how much they care about him and how they're his main support when things start to change with Dakota, I LOVED reading about him with Amber, being the most loving dad, a little clumsy, and ultimately finding his way with his little girl.

Dakota is a new character in the series, and one I didn't expect to love so much. He has a sad backstory due to the years of bullying and misunderstanding that caused him to isolate himself from the world. Although he might seem a bit rude at first, I loved reading everything that happened during that first encounter with Gabe from his perspective—how he began to open his heart to him and how he found a safe place to be himself in Gabe and the other guys.

Gabe & Dakota are one of my favorite couples by this author! I loved reading about them being so different from each other, Dakota having reservations about Gabe's true personality but quickly discovering that he can trust him. I also LOVED that Nicole's writing showed me a Gabe completely different when he's with Dakota because it perfectly captured the peace and tranquility this grumpy single dad finds in his client. I loved how these two found excuses to keep spending time together, how sweet they are on their dates, and that moment when Dakota finally meets Amber! Without a doubt, this is one of the books I've enjoyed most this month, and one I'll definitely be recommending.

So freaking cute as usual and I definitely found new Oakley’s Crew favorites (besides Travis and Oakley of course). I swear I latched onto both Dakota and Gabe faster than I did compared to the other couples in this book!! They were just so damn cute and their inner thoughts about each other were extra cute and funny. I love how much Dakota tried to keep their relationship professional because of his past but he just couldn’t help it when it came to Gabe’s good looks and of course a sparkling, happy personality. So happy he found someone to love and cherish him after not feeling wanted for most of his life 🥹 The transition from client, friends, to lovers was fast (they even said it themselves) but it worked out so seamlessly. Them falling in love felt so organic and pure and I love that about books, especially when the books are shorter (could’ve gone with more but it’s fine). It was beautiful to see Gabe finally letting himself be happy too after feeling like he’d never find love again after divorce 🥹 And then finally the way they became a family when Amber was introduced to Dakota was just everything and I am so happy for them!!

Can’t wait to see more of Oakley’s Crew, aka Jackson because that guy needs his happy ending!!

— quotes

“You’re a good man, Gabe. You deserve to be with someone who makes you happy.”

“But just because I’m allergic to human interaction doesn’t mean I don’t sometimes notice when a man is beautiful. And Gabe is beyond beautiful. The man is a work of art.”

“Is Dakota hot? I think about his sweet but still only really a half smile and his high cheekbones. His dark unruly hair and full lips . . . Hmm . . . maybe he is.”

“But when he climbs out of his truck and raises a hand to give me the slightest wave, the smirk on his face a little crooked—yeah, I’m crushing. Crushing hard. On a straight, single father. Fantastic, Dakota.”

“Lying in my bed late at night, it’s his face I see. It’s his lips I crave. I’m dying to have a taste.”

“Everything with Dakota . . . just feels right. Settling deep in my bones.”

“All I know is I’m attracted to you and I can’t stop thinking about kissing you.” — “That’s all that matters to me. I like you, Dakota. I can’t get enough of you.”

“But when it comes to Dakota, I don’t think I can play. I’ve never felt this feral about anyone.”

“I never even dreamed a man like Gabe would ever want me, but he does make me nervous because I didn’t see it coming.”

“I want you, Dakota,” — “I want you more than I’ve ever wanted anyone .”

“You make me feel good, just being near me. It’s never been like this before for me. Ever.”

“I know it’s early.” “But I’m all-in.” — “He’s all-in. So am I. I don’t understand how we got here so fast, but it’s been effortless. Even despite my awkward ways. With him, it’s been easy.”

“I want more than anything to be with him, but I’m not used to this. I’m not used to feeling like someone wants to take care of me. Cherish me. Wants me.”

“Light and free. That’s how Gabe makes me feel.”

“No one has ever cherished him. I’m starting to realize that. No one ever put him as a priority in their lives. He thought I’d toss him away after one tiny little thing like this? We’re going to have to fix that.”

“I’m not sure I’ve ever felt this settled in my life. This content. “I love you,” I whisper into his ear so softly, I’m not certain he even hears it.” — “I’m in love with you, and I want you to stay.”

“I can see the future in this. I want this. I look over at Gabe and catch his sappy smile. Is he thinking the same thing? He loves me. Why didn’t I say it back? I think I was too stunned that this gorgeous, sweet, amazing man felt that way about me. I never let myself dream about this kind of future. Ever. I’m scared, but . . . I want this.”

“It wasn’t that long ago when everything felt so dreary. I was lost and lonely, but now everything just feels right. He feels right.”

“I love you too, you know?” — “Never had a doubt, huh?” — “Nope.” “You show me you love me. Every single day.”

“I have Amber. And I have you.” — “Everything else would just be a happy bonus, but I don’t need it to be happy.”

“I love this life we’ve made together, and though it was kind of a fast transition—one I never saw coming—I know this is where we were supposed to end up.”

“Dakota and I have made one beautiful life here together. And I count myself lucky every single day.”

This was a truly engaging and emotionally layered story that stayed with me far longer than I expected. An absolute standout, beautifully written and rich with emotion, capturing both the complexity of change and the quiet courage it takes to embrace it.
Gabe and Dakota are both written with a lot of depth, and their struggles feel real without being overly dramatized.
Gabe’s resistance to change, especially in the wake of such a major upheaval, is portrayed with striking honesty, making his frustration and confusion deeply palpable, while the contrast between his mastery of gradual transitions in landscaping and his struggle to navigate the abrupt shifts in his personal life feels both uniquely compelling and profoundly relatable.

Dakota’s journey is just as compelling, offering a quieter yet equally powerful counterbalance; his comfort in routine and solitude is portrayed with authenticity and without judgment, and the subtle, satisfying shift in his worldview, beautifully symbolized through the greenhouse project, intertwines naturally with Gabe’s more turbulent path, creating a tender, believable connection that never feels forced.

The pacing is mostly strong, though at times I wished for a bit more development in certain emotional beats, especially as their internal conflicts start to intersect. Still, the chemistry and tension between the characters are handled with care.
What truly elevates this story is its thoughtful pacing and emotional depth, with every moment given space to breathe and allow the characters to evolve, while the woven symbolism and carefully crafted chemistry and tension create a hopeful “maybe it’s worth it” undertone that never feels forced.

Overall, a thoughtful and heartfelt read about change, resistance, and the possibility of something new. This is a story about change, yes, but more importantly, it’s about choosing it, even when it’s uncomfortable, even when it’s terrifying.

While each book in the Oakley's Crew Series is about a different couple, to avoid spoilers, it's best to read in order:

HOLY DADDY… WHO SAID THAT???

BUT HOLY CRAPP THIS WAS EVERYTHING AND MORE. The way it was so cohesive, and how it drags you in and you feel every single moment, this was an experience, a cute, loving, story that had my heart from the very first page till the very last sentence.

This is my first book by Nicole Dykes and I can confidently say this is not my last. The way her writing is just flows and just makes me feel and is so good I need to devour her other books.

Gabe my boy Gabe , he was so hot and so sweet and him being a father was everything and more he was so cut out to be a dad and he loved his little girl so much and you could see that and I loved that. He would anything for her to be happy. And when he found Dakota the very first moment you could tell something clicked. Like he was just meant for him in a way, and since that very first encounter Dakota was all he could think about. And the way he was so hot with Dakota too later on LIKE OKAYYY DADDYY GET IT ONNNNNN!!! But also that scene near the end with amber and Gabe and Dakota Had my heart like the way Gabe knew Dakota was his person, his everything.

Dakota my sweet Dakota, he’s been through so much and how he let in Gabe even through all the bad stuff it was just powerful. The way Dakota felt safe in his presence even if he tried to disregard it. How he fell for Gabe so fast and he seemed to be brighter, more free. More Dakota than he ever was. And that to me is what stood out. How he felt like he could be himself again with someone so emotionally and physically and everything. And how he said “I have found my family” I lost my marbles they were so meant to be from the very start, the connection so strong that it started at the very first sight. To me it was a invisible string aspect because they just felt right in every caliber, every every word on every page was full of them being their light their everything, their banter, their love throughout is something I’ll cherish forever

That not every transition is easy, but it it can be something so needed and so deeply rooted amongst fate.

And this part alone made my lose my marbles I love this book so much:

“I love this life we’ve made together, and though it was kind of a fast transition—one I never saw coming—I know this is where we were supposed to end up.”

This experience was everything and more, I needed this, I needed their story, I just couldn’t stop reading, enjoying every word every sentence every encounter every scene that they had together, they are so precious and I didn’t want it to end but I highly highly highly recommend this book you have to experience this book because you won’t regret it i promise you.

Super sweet romance!!

Gabe is feeling a bit devastated after his marriage has fallen apart and while he  realizes that it isn't that he wants his wife back, necessarily, he misses what he had with her. His wife is remarried and already moved on with her new life, but Gabe isn't sure he knows how to do that, until he meets Dakota. The man who wants a greenhouse built on his property. A man who is standoffish and oh...did you catch the part where it was a man and Gabe has always thought he was straight...huh...maybe he didn't have his life all figured out.

Dakota lives alone, works alone, and likes being alone. That is until Gabe shows up to build his new greenhouse and Dakota can't seem to stay away from the big, burly man who is all smiles. Prickly doesn't even come close to describing Dakota, but he has reasons for his standoffish personality and it also doesn't seem to send Gabe running for the hills, as a matter of fact, it only seems to make him smile more...huh...perhaps Dakota should work harder on his scowl...just kidding.

Gabe is easy to like and they soon form a friendship, which leads to more.😉 It's actually quite beautiful to witness not only their friendship grow, but also how Gabe processes his own fluidity into the next chapter of his love life. ❤️Upon meeting, all assumption lies in, Gabe is straight, but the longer Dakota got to know Gabe his assumption changes, and it's achingly sweet how he's there for Gabe who has such a big heart, and is wildly attracted to Dakota, but also doesn't quite understand why. While Gabe did love his wife, it was more about losing the life they'd built, the hominess of being together, the companionship, being a family, the love connection to someone when they got divorced. For Gabe love isn't about being with a man or a woman, it's about connection and he feels it deeply with Dakota. I loved that for him and also for Dakota who felt so alone before Gabe came into his world.

Transition is a beautiful story about blended families, friendships, and finding your perfect person, even when you aren't looking for them. Oakley's Crew continues to grow and I love how open and caring everyone is. It's a joy to always return to this loving world.

Here's Nicole Dykes's "Transition." It's the third Oakley's Crew novel.

My favorite principle in landscaping is transition. In life? Not so much.
I can’t stand change when it comes to my life. I was married to the same woman since I was in my early twenties and now I’m just supposed to move on from being married to being single. Sharing custody of our daughter.
Transition works for landscaping. It’s the easiest thing for me. Making sure there’s a natural flow in everything we do.
But that works because it’s gradual.
This feels so abrupt, it’s jarring.I don’t know how to make this change.
I’m not sure that I want to.

Dakota
I like my routine. I love being in my house, working from home and I realize that most think I’m weird.I couldn’t really care less what other people think.
But when I hire Oakley’s Crew to build a new greenhouse, I feel things starting to shift. Like it’s possible that maybe the way I’ve been living my life for the last three years isn’t as satisfying as I’d like to think.
Maybe it is time for a change.
Maybe it will be worth it for…him."]

This was honestly soooo cute! It was the perfect amount of pining and sweetness and spice and just the right degree of angst to get you sucked in.

All of the love and patience and trust and kindness. All for he cute and silly reasons to see each other. All of the good natured teasing. All of the barn movies and cat cuddles and blueberry pancakes.

Another HIT by Nicole.

Trigger Warnings: past bullying, past homophobia, past divorce, past emotional cheating, and more.

Transition by Nicole Dykes, provided via Chaotic Creatives, is a grounded and emotionally focused MM romance that combines single-parent dynamics, emotional healing, personal growth, and relationship development into a heartfelt reading experience.

The story follows Gabe, a single father, and Dakota, whose difficult past experiences with bullying and emotional hurt influence the way he initially perceives Gabe and their growing connection.

One of the strongest aspects of the story is the emotional realism between the characters. Dakota’s emotional walls and guarded behavior feel understandable because of the way his earlier experiences shaped his expectations and trust toward others.

His assumption that Gabe fits into the “popular jock” stereotype creates believable tension during the beginning of the relationship progression while also allowing space for emotional growth and vulnerability as the story develops.

I also appreciated that the story focused more heavily on emotional connection and plot development rather than relying primarily on spice. That slower and more grounded relationship progression made the romance feel refreshing and emotionally authentic.

The single dad dynamic also added emotional warmth to the story while helping balance some of the heavier emotional themes surrounding trauma and self-protection.

Overall, Transition is a heartfelt and emotionally grounded MM romance filled with healing, emotional growth, vulnerability, and meaningful relationship development that makes the story feel comforting and genuine from beginning to end.

Arc Review

Gabe is a father to five year old Amber, who has him wrapped around her finger. He is divorced from her mom, Shelly. Gabe works for Oakley’s Crew, and has been given at job to help build a greenhouse for Dakota, who has some quite particular conditions while working at his house.

Dakota is a self-proclaimed recluse, only going out if he really has to. He does not like people in his space and does not trust easily. He was bullied in high school and thinks everyone he comes into contact with him will treat him the same.

When Gabe starts work he and Dakota start to talk. Dakota realises that not all men are the same as those bullies. Gabe is kind, thoughtful and caring towards Dakota. The more they talk the more they realise they like each other and start to date. Gabe then becomes aware he is more demi-sexual than straight.

This is Nicole Dykes’ third book in the ‘Oakley’s Crew’ series and just like the previous two books, I adored this. Gabe is such a sweetheart and is tender towards Dakota.
Dakota has been wronged in life, but the more he trusts Gabe the more he understands are good people. It was lovely to catch up with old characters too.
As with all Nicole’s books, the writing flows effortlessly and the story is endearing.
I am hoping for Jackson’s story next.

This was really sweet! I adored these two!

If you’ve read the other books in the series, we’ve previously gotten a glimpse at Gabe and his little girl Amber. But if you haven’t, no worries you’ll get everything you need to know in this one! Gabe is still trying to wrap his head around the fall out of his marriage and is struggling with the fact that his wife has moved on and remarried.

Dakota keeps to himself as much as possible due to a difficult high school experience. The less he has to leave his house, the better. Which is why he thinks having a greenhouse to grow his own food is a great idea. So he hires Oakley’s Crew to have one built. The kicker though? He only wants one person handling the job.

I really loved Gabe and Dakota together. Even if Dakota was determined to not act on his feelings due to his trust issues. But the sunshine man that Gabe is, showed up every day with a smile on his face and showed nothing but kindness towards Dakota, and some protectiveness too! And when Gabe realized that he was attracted to Dakota and didn’t even question it or second guess himself and just went for what he wanted? LOVED THAT. I loved seeing Dakota come around and trust Gabe and Oakley’s Crew.

And little Miss Amber. Absolutely adorable. Gabe is a wonderful dad. And I really liked that he and Shelly got along so well. And I looooved how Dakota was with Amber as well. It was like that was how everything was supposed to be in the end.

If you want a light-hearted, feel good story, pick this up, or any of Nicole’s books!

I received a copy from the author and am voluntarily sharing my honest opinion.

TRANSITION is the third book in Oakley's Crew series. It can be read as a standalone but does read better if read in the order the author intended.

Gabe thought when he married Shelly it was for life but once the fighting started they knew they couldn't continue like that so now they coparent their daughter the best they can. Shelly has moved on and remarried but Gabe is finding it hard. When Travis assigns him a job for a greenhouse Gabe is excited to get started but the catch is the customer only wants one person to do the job. Gabe doesn't understand the need for only one person but he's excited to get started. Gaber is expecting an older man but is shocked when he finds Dakota. Gabe has this natural ability to make people feel comfortable. Dakota has some passed trauma with bullies and finds it's easier to just stay at home. So having someone in his space is hard for him. He tries to keep his walls up around him but finds himself slowly wanting to be around Gabe and talk to him more than he's talked to anyone.

I love how Dakota was able to relax and realize not everyone is a bully. And Gabe figured out his sexuality with a little help from Jackson. Gabe and Dakota were explosive and sweet. I think this was a really great addition to the Oakley series and I can't wait for more.

I was given a free copy of this book by the author to read and review.

Transition - Nicole Dykes
5/5✨🌟

* SPOILERS *

I swear, every single one of Nicole’s books, I just fall more in love with her characters. I immediately knew I was going to love this one when we meet Dakota.

When Gabe gets a joke at Dakota’s house, I just knew their dynamic was going to be interesting when Dakota opened the door. Dakota only wanted one person at his house and he had every right from being bullied in school.

These two were so adorable from how they get to know each other.

I loved the scene when Dakota finds out his cat Marvin was actually a Mavis by finding out she was pregnant. I laughed at Dakota’s reaction.

Also, their first date together when all that Gabe wanted to do was to make him feel safe because being around too many people was scary for him.

When Dakota meets Gabe’s ex and his daughter, I giggled. Amber is the cutest little girl. The way they Nicole writes the younger characters just makes you just swoon for these little humans too. Amber really reminds me of my niece and I was here for it.

I don’t want to give too much away but I just loved how both guys find their happily ever after. Perfect ending.

I cannot wait for the next installment because I need Jackson’s story. His is going to be everything. I just know it.

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.

I received an ARC for this book and here is my honest review.

Oh I loved Gabe and Dakota so so very much. They were so perfect for eachother and just filled the missing gaps that they both needed filled.

Gabe is a single father who is still struggling to understand how or why his marriage didn't work out but also accepting that his ex-wife has moved on and is happy and what happened was meant to happen. I think Gabe just struggled on where to go next and that's why I loved that Dakota was his person. You could tell that Dakota gave Gabe something that he's been missing his whole life but didn't realize he was missing it. Gabe also comes to realize he is most likely Demi and I love MCs who are Demi because you truly have to feel the connection before the relationship is built and it was done perfectly in this book.

Dakota is definitely a grumpy little recluse but he his reasons for being that way and I loved watching Gabe show him that he's not only safe with him but safe out in the world. Dakota was so sweet, and caring and I LOVED the way he way with Gabe's daughter and the kitties. These two together were just absolutely perfect!

I loved every single couple from this series and I can't wait to see if we are getting more! Jackson definitely needs someone or someone's? 🥰

Transition by Nicole Dykes, is the third book in the Oakley’s Crew Series and features Gabe and Dakota. Gabe is dealing with a lot of change following the breakdown of his marriage to Shelley, the mother of his young daughter Amber. The loss of the life he was expecting has thrown him into confusion and then when Shelley announces her pregnancy with her new husband, it is real moment of hurt for him even though he knows their marriage had run its course. By chance, he meets Dakota, when Oakley sends him to build a Greenhouse on Dakota’s land. Unfortunately, due to bullying when he was younger, Dakota isolates himself and doesn’t really want to interact or meet anyone. Gabe is drawn to him and teases him out his shell and what follows is a beautiful story of two men learning to trust, love and live again. I liked both these characters immensely, I particularly liked that when Gabe realised he was attracted to Dakota, he embraced it and eventually decided that he didn’t need a label. Dakota was the pricklier of the two, but he was a just a sweetheart and Gabe, opened up his world and made him feel safe and loved. It was nice to re-visit the Oakley crew and I thought Amber was an adorable child! This is a low angst but emotional story with a sweet and well-deserved HEA. 4.2/5

Maybe this is just me never wanting kids of my own lol but I thought Amber was annoying and not in a “oh she’s an adorable little terror” way. I also love how built up it was that Amber was going to meet Dakota/the kittens and name them, and then when that finally happens it is one sentence saying that it happened last week. It felt lazy

I think Shelly could’ve been a really great side character but the trying to set Gabe up and being so aggressive with how she brings things up to him was a bit much. A bit pick me as well. “I never thought you’d look at anybody else like that” yeah sure okay just cuz he didn’t move on from your divorce and get married within two years and already get pregnant while still in the house YALL LIVED IN TOGETHER

Anywho onto the good stuff. DAKOTA AND GABE. Sweet couple and well paired together. I loved reading about them. Dakotas place out in the country also sounds AMAZING and i’m jelly

Jackson and Gabe had a nice friendship too and I loved the convos they had in the book.

Definitely not my favorite ever but still had plenty of good moments and was overall lighthearted

Third in series (Oakley’s Crew), can be read as a standalone but might be more fun if read in order. Small town. Single dad. Grumpy/sunshine. Demisexual representation. Found family. Slow burn. Quick read. Dual POV.

His ex-wife has moved on and Gabe is happy he has his daughter but always thought his life would work out differently. When Gabe meets new landscaping client Dakota, Gabe’s cheeriness draws the lonely man close, but Dakota has trust issues in spades.

The gentle progression of Dakota and Gabe slowly getting to know each other was sweet, and really a nice romance filled with growing trust and feelings. I enjoyed how both Dakota and Gabe were interested in each other and how Gabe accepted his first time feelings for a man with a thoughtful pause but no angst. The secondary characters were important in their support and the importance of Gabe’s daughter in his life was never put aside for Dakota and Gabe’s romance. Overall, another great addition to this series with two likable characters falling in love and getting a sweet HEA. 4.25

I don’t know what voodoo this author has but every single one of her books is like a warm hug. I know when I sit down to read a book by this author I am going to be invested from start to finish. And when I get to the end, I am going to want to read it all over again. Gabe and Dakotas story is no different. Gabe is part of Oakley’s crew and this series is just amazing. Divorced and struggling to accept the changes he throws himself into work. Work finds him in the country working for a man who doesn’t want more the one worker at his house and is adamant about it. So adamant he offers to frame a greenhouse he’s paying for to avoid the extra person. This story is so sweet and so heart breaking but all the same heart warming and brings the feeling the faith in humanity is truly possible.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. This is the 3rd book in the Oakley's Crew series. Each book in this MM series can be read as a standalone.
Gabe is a single dad still trying to navigate life after his divorce. His life revolves around his sassy little girl and work. When an odd job that request only one worker, he is determined to talk the owner into letting him bring a helper.
After being severally bullied through out his childhood, Dakota has become a bit of a recluse. He doesn't leave home unless he absolutely needs to. Building a greenhouse is another step in that direction. He will be able to grow his own fruits and vegetables without going to town.
I really loved Gabe and Dakota's story and that sweet little girl was icing on the cake. Can't wait for more from this great crew of guys.
