Whiskey Charm was easily my favorite book in the Foster House series so far. Everything about this one just worked for me. The romance felt sweeter, the emotional moments hit harder, and the chemistry between the characters had me smiling basically the entire book. These two were so ridiculously cute together. Their relationship felt natural from the start and I loved how comfortable they became with each other without losing all the tension and flirting along the way. The banter was fun, the softer moments were adorable, and I honestly could not get enough of them together. They balanced each other out so well and it made the romance feel really genuine. I also feel like this book had the best emotional pacing in the series so far. Nothing felt too rushed or dragged out, and I stayed fully invested in both the relationship and the individual character growth. Watching them slowly let their walls down and realize they deserved something real was probably my favorite part of the whole story. And as always, the Foster family dynamic continues to be one of the strongest parts of these books. Every scene with the family made the story feel warm and cozy, even during the more emotional moments. It just adds so much charm to the series and makes me want to keep coming back for every sibling story. Overall this one was sweet, emotional, flirty, and genuinely fun to read. It gave me all the small town romance comfort vibes while still making me emotional over the characters. Definitely my favorite Foster House book so far and the couple will absolutely be staying in my head for a while.
Somehow this book managed to be chaotic, cozy, and emotional all at once.
Haven and Prescott pulled me in right away, and I was way more invested than I expected to be. The small-town vibe, the animal rescue moments, and their slightly messy first meeting just made everything feel warm and addictive. And honestly, a cowboy who loves animals? I was sold immediately.
What really stayed with me was the emotional depth. They’re both carrying past hurt, and watching them slowly let their guards down felt genuine and earned. The tension is that perfect push and pull where you know something real is building, even when they try to fight it. Haven especially surprised me with how much softness he had under all that guarded energy, and the way they kept showing up for each other made it easy to root for them.
The last stretch definitely had me in my feelings, and I was fully attached by then. There’s a nice mix of humor, heart, and just enough angst to keep things interesting. It drags slightly in the middle, but it recovers well and delivers where it matters.
This one definitely left a mark on me in the best way.

Huge thank you to Walker Rose & The Author Agency for the ARC! 😍 All my bookish thoughts are completely my own. ✨
More than a review, this is probably going to be a ramble of my thoughts because this story between the last Hennessy brother and Prescott made me feel everything: happiness, frustration, butterflies, comfort… basically an emotional rollercoaster I honestly didn’t expect to experience again after my semi-satisfaction with Whiskey Flirt.
From the very beginning, Whiskey Charm completely pulled me in. The first meeting between Haven and Prescott already tells you exactly what kind of dynamic you’re about to get: chaotic, funny, sweet, and impossible not to love. Prescott arrives in Huckleberry Springs trying to regroup and focus on rebuilding her future, only to end up rescuing abandoned animals from a ditch… while accidentally flashing cowboy Haven Hennessy in the process. Honestly? Iconic meet cute.
Haven and Prescott might actually be my favorite couple for the sweet vibes alone. I love that every couple in this series brings a different energy and dynamic to the table, and the last Hennessy brother truly delivered and brought me so much joy. Haven is charming, loyal, and the kind of MMC who falls first and falls hard, even if he spends most of the story trying to convince himself he only wants something temporary and uncomplicated. Prescott, on the other hand, is much more guarded and practical. She constantly tries to talk herself out of being attracted to him, which obviously fails miserably because these two have chemistry from the start.
For some reason, at one point I even found myself thinking how good this story would have worked if they had been childhood or high school friends who drifted apart for different reasons before finding each other again years later. But honestly, the fact that they don’t share that kind of past somehow makes their connection even more interesting, because everything between them develops naturally in real time and feels even more genuine because of it.
What I loved most about their relationship is how natural it felt. Their connection slowly develops through teasing, quieter moments, shared vulnerability, and simply learning how to lean on each other. They balance each other so well without losing all the tension and flirting along the way. The banter was genuinely one of my favorite parts of the book because it made everything feel effortless and fun, while the softer moments gave the relationship emotional weight.
I also think this book had some of the strongest emotional pacing in the series so far. Nothing felt overly rushed or unnecessarily dragged out. Watching both Haven and Prescott slowly lower their walls and realize they deserved something real was probably my favorite aspect of the story. Both characters are deeply shaped by their relationships with their parents and by the fear of being left behind or not being enough, so even when they made frustrating decisions, their actions still felt understandable and human.
Another thing I continue to absolutely love about this series is the family dynamic. Every scene with the Hennessys and the Fosters adds so much warmth and comfort to the story. I especially loved the way Haven was treated by his older brothers because, despite his age, he will always be seen as the youngest one. That being said, I honestly would have loved even more scenes between Haven and his brothers because those interactions were some of my favorites in the entire book. And honestly, there was no escape for him once his sisters-in-law got involved either, and I absolutely loved every second of those moments.
That being said, there were moments where the emotional push-and-pull between the characters became slightly frustrating because both of them are so guarded and afraid of fully letting someone in. There were honestly times when I wanted to jump into the story and shake them because why were they wasting something that was so clearly special? Thank goodness Haven had conversations with Avery and Thea, because they really helped him open his eyes and realize what was in front of him, otherwise I genuinely would have suffered for these two.
One thing that did make me a little sad, though, is that unlike his brothers, Haven never really got his own meaningful conversation moment with Mae. I would have loved to see that dynamic explored more. Still, I was happy that Mae was able to connect with Prescott instead.

What I would have liked to see explored more, though, was Haven’s relationship with his mother. I don’t think I was completely convinced by the way that final part of the story was handled, and I wish it had received a more definitive emotional closure. At the same time, if that ending represents Haven finally finding peace within himself, then I can accept it. I just wish he had opened up to his brothers earlier or had more meaningful moments of confrontation with them instead of leaving most of it until the end.
Overall, Whiskey Charm ended up being the kind of small-town romance that wraps you up in warmth, frustration, longing, comfort, and softness all at once. Even with a few aspects I wish had been explored more deeply, Haven and Prescott’s story felt genuine, emotional, and incredibly easy to get attached to. Their relationship reminded me that sometimes the most meaningful love stories aren’t the loudest ones, but the ones where two people slowly learn that being loved doesn’t mean having to lose themselves in the process. And honestly? Between the banter, the emotional growth, the family chaos, and Haven Hennessy being hopelessly gone for Prescott from day one, this book completely stole my heart.
A big thank you to The Author Agency and Walker Rose for letting me read this ARC, I truly appreciated it! All opinions are my own.
I love my foster house cowboys and this one was especially cute but also especially emotional. I love a whiskey cowboy when he meets his perfect match! This book is a friends to lovers, with the best will they or won’t they kind of tension! They also have the sweetest meet cute, they bump into each other finding stray cats, and I’ll just say that I never found a man holding cats that attractive…but I’ve changed my mind. This book may have been the most emotionally charged of the foster house series and I loved it! The last 20% of this book was just a pure angst DUMP, I was sobbing my way through those last 50 pages because I grew soo attached to Haven and Prescott and I could not stand the thought of them hurting and being without each other. Now I’m aware there are not real people I was just really caught up in the moment, which is amazing because it takes a certain type of author and writing to get me to feel that way. Because there is so much trauma, Haven has a humongous pile of mommy issues and it makes him scared of commitment and falling in love, on the other hand, Prescott craves commitment because she’s scared of people leaving and also has a large (not as large as Haven’s) dump of daddy issues. With their contrasting personalities they could be a match made in hell, or a match made in heaven, but we’re choosing to stay positive. I loved their story, it was full of fun flirty moments, and also really deep emotional heart to hearts. I admit, some parts in the middle were kind of slow, however it does pick back up and get really exciting. This book is a beautiful read, and Walker Rose has once again one me over with her hot cowboys. I give this a 4/5
𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲: 💚 small town romance 🥃 friends to lovers 💚 he falls first 🥃 forced proximity 💚 new in town FMC 🥃 rescue animals 💚 slow burn 🥃 open door romance 💚 dual POV
𝗠𝗬 𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗦: When this one started out with Prescott, our female main character, rescuing a puppy & a couple of kittens, I was hooked right from there! And then comes along Haven, who notices Prescott on the side of the room, & stops to check that everything is okay. Haven agrees to keep the rescue animals at his place till Prescott finds them a home & the rest is history! I loved Haven & Prescott’s love story. I loved the slow burn build up & all of the tension between them before they finally caved. The character growth in both Prescott & Haven was such an added bonus. I loved the push & pull between them but I also loved the deeper emotional connection that they had brewing as well. I have really been enjoying this series!
small town + cowboy + commitment issues… I was already sold 🤠
Prescott is just trying to start over, keep things simple, and not get pulled into anything messy. enter Haven Hennessy… charming, frustrating, and very much a no strings attached kind of man.
and honestly he tests her patience straight away.
Prescott doesn’t just fall at his feet either, which I loved. she makes him work for it, and you can feel that slow shift where things stop being “just fun” and start getting real.
Haven is such a classic commitment-phobe MMC, but you can see the cracks early on. the more time he spends with Prescott, the harder it is for him to pretend he doesn’t want more.
it’s soft, emotional, a little messy, and very small town cozy with that underlying he’s going to fall first, isn’t he energy 👀
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️
thank you Walker Rose and the Author Agency for an ARC
Whiskey Charm, did exactly that, charmed me easily and had me falling head over heels in love with Haven and Prescott. The way these two meet is funny, adorable and makes for a laugh out loud moment right from the start. These two have walls built around their hearts after being let down as children. Haven will not give his heart away and keeps women at arms length and Prescott wants it all and will not settle for anything less. As the chemistry and connection builds between these two, they deny their true feelings, maintaining they are friends and nothing more. The story is filled with plenty of emotion, passion, heat and let's not forget drama. These two will frustrate you at times as the lack of communication between them has the story sliding into an angsty finish that has you on the edge of your seat, your heart in your throat and the tears beginning to build. However the finish and the epilogue make up for all the angst with your heart and soul being filled to the brim with love.
Two people who meet in a most unlikely way, and immediately have an attraction, but they are definitely not wanting anything from anyone. When their is bad history, comes lingering memories and determination that committement only brings heartache. The emotions, feelings, and attraction these two are developing is undeniable. His family is about helping each other, closeness and bringing others together. She doesn't have alot of family members, so much love is new to her, other than her mother's, whom was everything. Beautiful story about two people who find themselves in their journey to find themselves and can it be together?
I was sucked into this book so quick! I loved the audio! Narration by Marie Hawkins & Will Spear just had me hooked.
Idk how Walker is constantly able to write characters that consume you, but Haven & Prescott absolutely did!! I mean a cowboy who loves animals & a book about rescuing them?!? My heart couldn’t handle the wholesomeness of this one!!
Both of these characters were dealing with their own trauma and fears from their past & we were able to watch them slowly break down their walls for each other. It was so absolutely beautiful to watch their relationship grow! The yearning & tension between them was so good!!
Truly such a well done story that showcases the trust between these two, with the added emotion, spice, and some humor too!! Definitely recommend this book & entire series if you haven’t checked it out!! I can’t wait for more 🤭
Thank you Walker Rose & Team for this early audio copy!!
It’s hard to believe that I just met Walker Rose’s exceptional writing skills a few months ago because I’m so utterly in love with her style and voice and I’m only 3 books in. Can you imagine the glitter bombing and shouting from rooftops I will be doing when I get the time to binge her backlist?! It’s gonna be epic … I feel it!
Lets do narration first! DUET performance by Marie Hawkins & Will Speare was ridic good! My first time listening to Marie and I already want to marry her! Seriously. And Will … Lawd, he was made to be a cowboy! That’s is all. Full stop! These two were so ridiculously natural that I fell into this story headfirst and I did not want to leave. They did that. They took the fun and flirty and the tension and emotion and elevated to new heights. There were big chunks of listening time that I found myself so absorbed in the story that I was staring at the ceiling just feeling! That doesn’t happen to me. I don’t just do nothing while I listen to an audiobook. 👏👏well done👏👏!!
Now, let’s chat about this story for a minute. Let’s begin with the meet-cute because, *heart-eyes* to infinity people! Very unique and one you will not soon forget! Then they build a friendship that is organic and genuine and realistically flows to more. Seriously, that’s the story, and it’s one of the best emotionally charged feel-good stories of its kind. The push/pull and tension between them was realistic and everything that happened made sense. Not a single plot-point was over dramatized, in my opinion, and because the possibility was there to make it so and Walker Rose didn’t go there, I have mad respect for her! Haven & Prescott come into each other’s lives holding a whole lot of “weight” and it was a thing of beauty to read/listen to their story unfold. They were natural from the start, meant for each other. Their story was fun and flirty between them and deeply emotional as well. Their friendship blossomed into more in a delicious slow-burn that was a perfect fit for them both. There is absolutely nothing not to love about this story!
Whiskey Charm is book 3 in the Foster House series. Prescott arrives in Huckleberry Springs in search of a new fresh new start. She meets Haven when the two have a fun and sweet meet cute when Prescott stops at the side of the road to rescue some kittens, and Cowboy Distiller, Haven pulls up to help her. This begins a connection that was soo sweet but also carried a lot of emotions.
I must admit this book hooked me from the start. Prescott and Haven have lots of chemistry and a strong connection. But due to them both having personal struggles, trauma, and fears from their past that they need to work through, they hold off on anything serious and stay friends for a long time. The tension was strong and unmatched 👌 It was so nice seeng them slowly work through said struggles, and see their relationship grow.
This story is a winner in my books. It does well to balance humour, wit, heart/emotions, and angst/drama. This small-town, friends-to-lovers story delivered on all fronts. Providing a romantic, humorous, spicy, emotional, and most of all, engaging and entertaining read/listen.
The duet narrated aided in bringing the story to life. Narrated by Marie Hawkins and Will Speare, they both were excellent at portraying all the emotions, tension, and character needed for this story!
Thanks to the author, Walker Rose, and the team at Ear Candy Promos for providing me with an advanced audio review copy of this book. All opinions provided in this review are entirely my own.
Walker Rose delivers another swoon-worthy small-town romance, complete with a charming cowboy distiller, sharp banter, adorable animals, and plenty of heart.
Haven Hennessy is handsome, charismatic and allergic to commitment, weighed down by a difficult past. When he meets Prescott Keys on the side of the road while helping rescue strays, he starts to imagine a future he never thought possible. However, Prescott isn’t looking for something casual, she wants forever and she plans to leave town soon.
Prescott is regrouping after losing her job, staying with her father while she figures out her next move. Guarded by her own past, she’s determined not to fall for someone who can’t fully commit. Yet Haven surprises her, proving through his actions that he may be more than she expected.
Their chemistry is electric, their connection deeply emotional. Both carry scars that make love feel risky, which makes their journey toward healing and trust all the more compelling. The family dynamics, especially Haven’s bond with his brothers, add warmth and depth and returning characters make this a true treat. There’s plenty of tension and steamy spice for romance lovers, but it’s the emotional depth that truly hooks you.
This book made me sigh, cry and completely swoon. Haven might be my favorite Hennessy brother yet and Prescott’s journey to believing she deserves forever was just as moving. Watching them earn their happily ever after was everything my heart wanted and more. 5 stars!!
Perfect meet cute for a small town romance with adorable kittens, a puppy, a hot cowboy and our FMC flashing him with her red lace panties which earned her the nickname Red from the minute they met!
This was my first book by Walker Rose and I had no trouble keeping up with the story and all the characters even though I hadn't read the previous books in the series. This is book 3 in the Foster House series.
I really enjoyed the story and how they slowly went from friends to lovers. They were perfect for each other and exactly what the other needed in order to be happier and deal with their past issues and family drama. I love how they kept showing up for each other and opening up to the other.
That scene with the impromptu whiskey kiss tasting was hot hot hot!!
🎧 I did immersive reading with the audiobook and eBook. The audiobook was performed in duet narration by Marie Hawkins and Will Speare. They both did an amazing job portraying the characters and bringing them to life.
Tropes in this book: 🐈 Small town romance 🐈 Friends to lovers 🐈 He falls first 🐈 Insta attraction 🐈 Rancher x pet influencer 🐈 Found family 🐈 Slow burn 🐈 Family drama 🐈 Adorable kittens and puppy
Thank you to One Night Stand Studios and Walker Rose for the advanced copy of the audiobook, these are my honest thoughts.
I’ve been having so much fun with this series, and Haven and Prescott might be my favourites yet.
Haven meets Prescott on the side of the road while she’s trying to rescue some animals, and he falls hard and fast instantly. He’s flirty, handsome and so loyal. But while he doesn’t do commitment, he does do fun, and that’s exactly what he hopes he can have with Prescott.
Prescott, on the other hand, does not do fun, and tries every possible way to talk herself out of finding Haven even remotely attractive… as we all know, they both fail miserably at what they set out to do 😂
They’re both guarded and a little skittish, but somehow they slowly build a friendship where they lean on each other. You can really feel how much they’re both holding back, and how badly they need someone who will just show up - no matter what - even if that looks different for each of them.
With so much of their behaviour shaped by their parents, things get complicated and not always rational - but I loved how they still managed to see each other underneath all of that.
And Haven falling in love with those animals too? So cute. Prescott is just as adorable.
This was such a fun, sweet read, and I’m so excited to get back to Huckleberry Springs especially after that sneak peek… I have questions 👀
Thank you the author & team for allowing me to read this ARC - I’m so grateful!💕
Coming back to Huckleberry Springs for Haven Hennessy is an absolute delight, and Haven is probably my favorite Hennessy brother! Now, this is book 3 in the Foster House series, however, this can absolutely be read as a standalone!
Prescott has been dumped and lost her influencer career. She was once a beaming photographer, but she's lost that drive since everything in her life hit the fan. Haven finds her on the side of the road where she's trying to rescue kittens and he immediately falls for her. Prescott is fighting any hint of a relationship because she is focused on finding a new career for herself.
Haven eventually finds a way to be near her and even convinces her to go on "non dates." Does it lead to Prescott falling for Haven and his whiskey charm?
All I know is this book made me want to go to a distillery and do some tastings. I wanted to curl up with a glass of my Frank Sinatra Jack Daniel's bourbon and sip on it. It really paints a beautiful picture of Montana and all that the Hennessy brothers have to offer. This is a solid 4 star read that I read in less than 12 hours time! Highly recommend!!
This is book 3 of the Foster House series. Each book just keeps getting better and better. Haven and Prescott are my new favorite couple! This is by far my favorite book in the series. Haven and Prescott are just perfect together! Their meet cute was just adorable! Prescott flashes Haven while rescuing some stray kittens and he’s smitten! She tries not to fall for Haven’s charms since she’s only in Huckleberry Springs for a while and she’s done with men but the more time they spend together and go on “non-dates” it’s inevitable! This was a friends to lovers and slow burn but so worth it. Their chemistry was so magnetic and the banter was so good! It was sweet and spicy and also emotional! I loved every part of this book.
I loved the audio book and listened as I read! It was narrated in duet narration by Will Speare and Marie Hawkins and what an amazing performance it was! They just brought these characters to life and Will’s drawl is just swoon worthy! I felt they were perfectly cast to narrate these characters and their voices felt so natural they just drew you in to the story and made you feel all the feels!
Walker Rose is one of my favorite authors. I really enjoy her writing. If you love small town and cowboy romance you will love her books.
Thank you to Walker Rose yet again for the eARC and the ALC of this book.
Walker Rose delivers another standout in the Foster House Series, and this one might be my favorite yet.
Prescott arrives in Huckleberry Springs looking for a fresh start, but a chance roadside meet cute with Haven (while rescuing kittens ) sets the stage for a connection that’s equal parts sweet and electric.
What unfolds is a beautifully layered romance where guarded walls slowly fall and a commitment-shy MMC begins to waver. The chemistry is undeniable, but it’s the emotional depth; the tension, vulnerability, and growth that truly makes this story shine.
With its small-town charm, heartfelt moments, and just the right touch of angst, Whiskey Charm is a romance that will stay with you long after you finish it.
An easy recommendation for fans of swoony, friends-to-lovers stories with heart.
Alc. Opinions are my own. Listened at 1.7x Love these two narrators together. *Marie Hawkins & Will Spear* The story comes to life!
Haven comes with share of baggage. Heard headed about love with a big heart is a rough combination to balance. Thankfully this Hennessey can't keep that balance after Prescott comes to Huckleberry Springs. This man has a dirty mouth, dirty thoughts.... swoony but whew.. dirttty...
Prescott is handling grief beautifully. She may feel like she is struggling but watching her find her footing while still grieving and learning about herself, her papa, small town life... she just is so perfect. I believe she is my favorite FMC of this series.
-Papa- grew *sniff* on me.
This series has had me from page one, I am ready for the next book!

✨️ 📚 ARC 📖 REVIEW ✨️
There has yet to be a book that Walker has written that I haven't loved. This book is being added to that list!!!
I love a small town setting with a cowboy who has committment issues.. He is right up my alley for all the shenanigans that can happen! Buuutttt Walker really went all the way and made him a lover and rescuer of fur babies! SOLD...TAKE MY MONEY 💰
I loved when Haven comes into the picture because she is everything that he is trying to avoid. He pushes her and tests her patience immediately.
There wasn't a time in this book that I haven't loved and wished I was the one he rescued!!!
Thank you 🫶🏻 to ✨️ Walker Rose ✨️ for the complimentary 📚 ARC 📚. ✨️ All opinions are my own, honest, and voluntary✨️.
Prescott stops at the side of the road to rescue 3 kittens and a pup when cowboy distiller Haven pulls up to lend a helping hand. And he lent her several over the course of this book 😜 iykyk. He was YEARNING for her but due to trauma with his mother couldn’t recognise his own feelings, feeling like he doesn’t deserve love as everyone leaves him, and all Prescott wants is someone to ask her to stay. This couple had my heart from the first chapter and I enjoyed every last word.
It was such a fun mix of southern charm, tension, and small-town drama. The chemistry between the leads felt effortless, with that flirty push-and-pull that keeps you smiling the whole time. It had the perfect balance of cozy, emotional, and steamy without losing the heart of the story. Definitely one of those comfort reads you fly through in a day.
Another fiver star! I shouldn’t be surprised at this point with Walker. I loved both MMCs and their stories, the yearning just pushed it over the edge. Nobody can do a small town, complex story like Walker rose! Thanks for the advanced copy!!
I was so happy to see Haven get his HEA with Prescott. I loved all the photography scenes. And Silas stole the show a little bit along with the puppy and kittens. I'm glad we have at least one more book with Foster house. I can't wait for Lane's book.
P.S. Haven's momma is a ho and we hate her! I would've liked to see her get more of a comeuppance.
This is the third book in the Foster House series but it can be read as a standalone. All the books have been fantastic.
I loved Haven and Prescott together. I devoured this book.
Haven was a great MMC, I loved him and wanted to punch his mom so bad. He deserved so much better from her. I love that he had his brothers.
Prescott had her share of issues, especially with her dad. It really effected how she handled relationships.
Their "meet cute" was so fun, they had great chemistry, and I loved seeing them finally let their walls down. They both deserved the HEA they got.
Fast and fun read, definitely recommend it and the series.

Whisky Charm is the third book in the Foster House series. Prescott is coming back to live with her estranged father. On her way back to town she saw a small kitten on the side of the road. While she was searching for the kitten she meets Haven. Haven Hennessey is everything Prescott has been trying to avoid in men. While they were searching for the first kitten they found two more kittens and a puppy. Haven takes the animals to his farm while Prescott tries to find them homes. Prescott can’t seem to stay away from Haven’s Whiskey Charm. I really enjoyed this book.
Marie Hawkins and Will Speare did a fantastic job narrating this book.
I loved how this book started out. Haven and Prescott’s meet cute was 100% that, so cute. Walker Rose gave me a cowboy who loves & rescues fur babies. I mean my heart just melted all over again 😍. Just from the first chapter I was immediately hooked. I have absolutely loved every book in the Foster House series but I think this one might be my favorite.
Both our characters have a pull to each other but due to past trauma resist one another. They become friends and we watch as that friendship becomes more. I enjoyed watching them start to grow and heal. It was a very beautiful and emotional story. The banter was great and of course we all love a little spice 😏. Just truly loved every bit of this book. I can’t wait for the next one .
Thank you Walker Rose for the opportunity to read this eARC.
"You’re definitely smooth, Hennessy, but I think you might burn my palate." I was so looking forward to Haven’s journey and it’s now my favorite of the series—I mean, a he falls first where he’s a cat and dog dad and where both characters are relatable? It’s hard to top.
"It’s the middle of the day, but there’s the ripest, juiciest full moon in the ditch." The first thing you should know is that their meet-cute is… original. While she’s in a ditch trying to save some animals on the side of the road, Haven drives by and, well, gets a good look at her red lace panties. And from that moment on, the man does his best to stay away, but there’s something about Prescott that just keeps drawing him in, and it's not just physical.
"Being a distiller and a rancher is all I do, yet neither impresses her. I’ve got to get over myself. I’m not special." The thing is that life hasn’t been treating her well, which is why she finds herself living at her dad’s house in Huckleberry Springs, Montana, out of a job, out of money, and trying to get herself back on her feet. What she doesn’t need? A cowboy in her life, regardless of how charming he is.
"I don’t like whiskey." "I can change that. If you want." "Why would I want that?" Haven has his work cut out for him. Every time he tries to get close, she shuts him down. Maybe he should just lick his wounds and retreat. But the more he knows about Red (and no, that’s not because of the color of her hair!), the more he wants to know. Hell, he didn’t even plan on keeping the kittens and the dog they saved, but if that means she’s coming around to his place to check on them, he’ll take it.
"Hennessy, you’re going to get me in trouble with that mouth." "It’d be my pleasure—and yours." It’s hard for Prescott to deny the attraction, though, because the man is fire. So maybe she wasn’t looking for a cowboy, but what if this one says—and more importantly, does—all the right things and is not just blowing smoke up her ass like others did? What if she can let go, even if just for the time she’ll be in town?
"I need… I need to feel like I’m enough for now." "Will you let me show you that you are? Will you let me show you that you’re always enough? That if you ever feel like you’re not, it’s because the other person isn’t worthy of you?" We know what drives them and their innermost thoughts, and hell, I loved them both, but when they start opening up to each other… It's perfect. They both have issues in their pasts that are influencing their presents, and they’re so good at being friends. Except for the chemistry they have because no, there’s nothing "friendly" about the way they want each other.
"She’s air, and I’m suffocating. She’s sustenance, and I’m starving. She’s understanding, and I’m so damn confused. But not about this. Not now, and not with her." The tension was off the charts as they tried not to go there but failed. And they were so hot, so flirty, so sexy, and at the same time so emotional and so full of intimacy and feels. If you’ve been reading this series, you know how hot these Hennessy brothers are and, well… Tack rooms will never be the same. Or front doors!
"There’s this girl. I can’t quit thinking about her. I can’t quit wanting her. I can’t quit thinking that maybe…I could have something special with her." I loved how Prescott gets the found family she never thought she’d have in this small town. I loved how Haven finally cuts ties with people who only hurt him and proves to her that he’s not just charm. He means what he says and says what he means. And I loved how they let go of their baggage, were there for each other, and helped each other heal.
"I’m yours, Haven. I’ve wanted you since I met you." "You rescued me that day." There’s a lot of vulnerability in this book. These two people found their person when they weren’t looking, and it’s someone who doesn’t want them for right now, but for forever.
I am not okay… and I don’t want to be 😭🥃 this book completely pulled me in—small-town Montana, messy emotions, tension you can feel, and characters that stay with you long after you finish the last page 🤠✨ Prescott showing up at her father’s place, completely lost after losing her cat (and with it, the identity she built as an influencer) hit harder than I expected. she’s in that in-between space—grieving, uncertain, trying to figure out who she is now—and it made her journey feel so real and grounded 💔 and then… she meets Haven. in a ditch. rescuing kittens. and a puppy. like??? I was done for immediately 🥹🐾 Haven Hennessy is that man. closed off, shaped by his past, absolutely not interested in relationships—and yet the second Prescott enters his orbit, something shifts. he tries to keep his distance, but he just… can’t. and watching that internal battle play out? addictive 😮🔥 their connection builds in such a natural, layered way. it starts with small moments, shared space, helping each other without even realizing what they’re becoming… and suddenly it’s this deep friendship that turns into something so much bigger 🥺 the tension between them is constant. playful, charged, a little messy—but underneath all of that is vulnerability. two people who’ve both been through things, slowly letting their walls down without even meaning to 🖤 and when it turns into love? it feels earned. also I need to talk about the animals because they are not just background details—they matter. Meadow the puppy, the kittens… they add so much softness to the story, and seeing Haven step up in those moments? yeah, that’ll do it. instant emotional attachment 🐶 what really stood out was the emotional depth. Haven’s past, the way it shaped how he sees relationships, the fear of letting someone in… it’s not just surface-level “commitment issues.” there’s real hurt there. and when he starts to open up, even a little, it hits hard. Prescott’s journey mirrors that in a different way—figuring out who she is without the life she thought defined her, and allowing herself to build something new, even if it’s not what she planned 🌾 together, they’re messy, tender, and completely compelling. the kind of couple you want to shake and protect at the same time 😭 and yes—the “I might have to leave” tension?? I saw it coming and it still hurt. badly. also… Prescott’s father, the Hennessy/Foster brothers—there’s something so addictive about this world. I already need more. tropes you’ll love: 🤠 small town romance 💚 he falls first 🐾 animal rescue 🔥 slow burn 💫 friends to lovers 🌾 western vibes 🤫 sneaking around 🖤 emotionally guarded MMC I loved this so much. I want to reread it, live in it, and maybe make questionable life choices involving a cowboy 🥃
Walker Rose really said “what if I emotionally destroy you with a cowboy who rescues kittens” and I said THANK YOU, MA’AM.
I got an ARC for this series and naturally blacked out and devoured the entire Foster House world because these books are CRACK for small town romance readers. And Whiskey Charm? Yeah… this one owns me now.
Haven Hennessy and Prescott Keys had me in a chokehold from the SECOND this man pulled over on the side of the road to help a chaotic stranger rescue kittens and a puppy while her entire ass is practically out in the Montana wind. The meet cute? ICONIC. Embarrassing. Flirty. Weirdly emotional? Walker Rose absolutely nailed it.
And listen… Haven Hennessy??? That man is FOUL for how lovable he is.
Cowboy. Distillery owner. Emotionally constipated. Secret softie. Obsessed immediately. Terrified of love. Will build emotional intimacy through animal rescue and “non-dates” while pretending he doesn’t care. SIR?????
Meanwhile Prescott is out here trying to rebuild her life after losing basically everything — her relationship, her career, her sense of stability — and all she wants is for someone to finally choose her completely. Which honestly made this hit way harder emotionally than I expected because underneath all the flirting and whiskey and tension, this story is really about two people desperate to be loved without conditions.
The chemistry?? ABSURD.
The slow burn?? TORTURE.
The tension and push/pull had me pacing my room like an unwell Victorian woman clutching pearls and bourbon. Every scene between them felt natural and REAL. The emotional buildup was so strong that when they finally gave in?? GOOD LORD. Walker Rose writes yearning like she’s trying to personally ruin lives.
And the audiobook??? Marie Hawkins & Will Speare absolutely ATE. DEVOURED. LEFT NO CRUMBS.
Will Speare as a cowboy should honestly be federally regulated because that voice??? Illegal. Marie Hawkins brought so much vulnerability and warmth to Prescott that I was fully staring at my ceiling emotionally spiraling during multiple scenes. DUET NARRATION SUPREMACY.
Also: 🥃 rescue animals 💚 small town Montana vibes 🥃 found family 💚 emotionally damaged hot people 🥃 “he falls first” energy 💚 sneaking around 🥃 friends to lovers 💚 cowboy whiskey charm weaponized against innocent women
This series just keeps getting better and I genuinely never want to leave Huckleberry Springs. Walker Rose writes characters that feel alive — messy, vulnerable, funny, deeply human — and every single Foster House book somehow makes me fall harder for this world.
Haven and Prescott own a permanent piece of my soul now. That’s it. That’s the review.
Thank you Walker Rose & Author Agency for the ARC! 🖤
