Random read turned out to be pretty good (not perfect). Really loved the political take on this wolf shifter romance.

Colin and Lori’s story puts a fresh spin on what happens when a wolf shifter ends up mated to a full human — and not even the right human, according to the treaties everybody and their mama agreed to. In this world, shifters are out in the open, and there are rules about who’s allowed to mate into a pack. Lori wasn’t supposed to be the one chosen… her older sister was. But fate clearly didn’t read the paperwork.
What follows is pure chaos wrapped in loyalty: the “replacement” mate decides she’s all in with her alpha, and Lori uses every ounce of her sharp, scary‑smart brainpower to help him and the pack.
Kira Moss delivered a well‑written, intriguing take on shifter politics and forbidden bonds.

A different take on the usual trope.
I read this based on a recommendation from Heather Harris's newsletter and am delighted that I did.
It's an unusual take where our human heroine fight battles through paperwork. Never has an audit been so interesting... It's lovely to have someone who doesn't have any "powers" as the female lead.
The story has all the usual tropes, but the quality of writing, and the cast of characters, elevates the story from mundane to enjoyable.
The world building was a tad confusing at times. To many consortium and councils with no explanation of how this all fits together. A glossary or maybe an appendix explaining the world, or even some extra bits on the author's website would be good.
Looking forward to the next book in the series and seeing how this new author develops.

Intriguing plot, introduces some new concepts in the realm of shifters - and this is so much more than a simple romance. There is humor and adventure, mystery and, yes, romance. The story kept me not wanting to stop until I reached the end. I am excited to see what the next installment brings.
I don't want to give away spoilers - if you are looking for a story that goes deeper, that shows character growth and has a rich world, I highly recommend you pick this one up.

I love the Treaty Spouse it was a very interesting take on wolf shifters and humans. The book is set in a world where there are treaties between humans and wolf shifters.it involves Lori the human and Colin the alpha wolf. It’s the first book in a new series. I would definitely recommend to read. Can’t wait for the next book.

I never knew where this book was heading. It was amazing. Kinda slow, almost jaggard, in the beginning but it definitely found its way. I will be looking out for book two, I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

I loved the originality of this story. I loved the plot and the tension. This had so much in it, it was packed full of everything I would hope for in a story. Great characters, great plot. The story has depth and originality. I loved that there was intrigue and humor. And the perfect amount of steaminess. I really loved everything about this.

What a pleasant surprise! An author who is brave enough to step outside of the “omegaverse.” Not completely but enough to put this book above the shifter stories I’ve been reading.
Lori never asked to be anything. She was carefully put in a box of her father’s making. She’s learned to be a ruthless auditor, think a barracuda with a calculator, to work where and how her father tells her. Then plans change. And she is shoved into a situation her sister trained for.
Colin sees this Treaty Spouse thing as something that must be done. That is, until he meets Lori.
What follows is a well-crafted shifter novel. The pack dynamics are not all-for-one. I’ll leave it at that.
But never underestimate the forgotten daughter. The one sent to skulk in the shadows of files, regulations, and numbers. She might just be your undoing.
Satisfactory end with a perfect hook. Not a cliffhanger.
Relationship felt realistic. Much more human oriented. No magical fix to being human.

Great new series!
The Treaty Spouse is much more than a Shifter Romantasy with a familiar trope. It’s intelligent, with an interesting plot, and very well written. The H & H are full realized characters and the storyline is intriguing. Highly recommend.

🐺 Fated Mates
Forensic auditor Lorelei Taggart ("Lori") received an extremely early morning summons from her father, Henry Taggart, to appear at the Council Tower by 8 a.m. Eight Council members were already seated and watching her as she entered the room. Her older sister Cassandra ("Cassy") was normally the one to attend these meetings but she wasn't there and Lori began to worry. Her father said her sister was no longer the treaty candidate which requires a Taggart daughter; and Lori, knowing they all expected her to collapse in tears, immediately surprised them stating that this must mean she is now the expected replacement to provide stability for the pack they are dealing with. She reminded her father that Cassy was groomed for pack protocol but Lori was not. She is unaware of their pack hierarchy, customs, rules -- and she knew he was deliberately sending her in blind. But that didn't matter at all, it seemed. Not a pushover, Lori had no choice here, but she did have demands he had to agree to, especially as the meeting was being recorded. A car would be arriving in a few hours to pick her up at 5:00, giving her no time at all to prepare or research pack protocol. But they will soon find out that Lori is brilliant and can "think on her feet" to make the necessary decisions for success.
Alpha Colin Gordon's wolf read the newly released notice, recognizing the replacement name as a political arrangement that felt like a trap. The Council would never swap candidates the very morning of a ceremony without a reason, which was never good news for the wolves. Surprisingly, his eyes turned gold, reacting to the woman he had never met. He alerted Robert of what was going on but ignored Robert's advice. However, Robert clearly saw that Henry Taggart was up to something unpleasant. Then a border scout notified him that the convoy bringing Lori to them had deviated from the route and Colin was impelled to rush out to track her down. Rather than insist on claiming her as was expected, he notes the fact she is human and he is a wolf who will live far longer than she will, and he lets the choice be hers as they build up trust in each other. Working together, Lori uses her brilliant mind to uncover and expose what her father is actually up to. Will that put her into danger as the Council tries to deal with her before she exposes the truth?
This was a well-written compelling storyline with characters that make an immediate impact. Definitely be sure you grab a copy and immerse yourself in their adventure as you cheer for the "good guys" to do the impossible!

I went into Treaty Spouse expecting a straightforward shifter romance, but it ended up being so much more layered and compelling than I anticipated.
The premise hooks you immediately—Lori Taggart is sent as a replacement bride in a political treaty her sister was supposed to fulfill, and from the start it’s clear she’s not the kind of heroine who quietly accepts her fate. She’s analytical, stubborn in the best way, and fights with intelligence rather than brute force, which made her incredibly refreshing to read. Watching her unravel her family’s secrets while navigating an entirely new world was one of the strongest parts of the book.
Colin Gordon, the Alpha, could have easily fallen into the typical dominant shifter trope, but he doesn’t. What stood out most to me is that he chooses restraint. He doesn’t claim Lori outright—he gives her agency, which adds a lot of depth to their relationship. Their dynamic builds slowly and thoughtfully, making their connection feel earned rather than rushed.

I picked up “Treaty Spouse” by Kira Moss based on the book blurb and the first few paragraphs (which proved I would enjoy the author’s writing style). I anticipated a fun shifter romance, but I discovered so much more!
The book blurb says all you need to know, so I won’t paraphrase and risk giving any hints of what’s in store.
Moss excels at world building. “Treaty Spouse” takes place in present day United States. In this world, humans know that wolf shifters exist. The packs live on their own lands but interact with the human world. That’s where the treaty comes in.
Corporations need access through pack land, and the pack needs supplies from the outside world. The treaty dictates all of that.
We learn about the Gordon Pack, its culture, hierarchy and heritage as Lori learns. These descriptions never slowed down the book, in fact they added to it.
Lori Taggart: Our FMC is analytical and methodical, two traits she applies as she quickly finds herself an outsider in a new world.
Colin Gordon: Our MMC is Alpha of the pack, which seems to be doing well, although we discover Colin has a few demons in his past.
I liked both characters individually and was rooting for them from the start. Together, however, I loved how strong they were and how their arranged marriage evolved.
Because life is never calm, especially in fiction, there is plenty of chaos surrounding Lori and Colin. For me, this chaos turned a simple paranormal romance into a fast-paced tale of intrigue that kept me on the edge of my seat.
I found “Treaty Spouse” to be a fast read in one sitting (who needs sleep on a Friday night?). I wholeheartedly give it a full five stars and would double that if I could.
This is Kira Moss’ first published series. She’s already working on Book 2. Where some authors end a book by setting up the next obvious couple, Moss seems to be keeping the second story close to her vest. I cannot wait to follow this story in the next book.

When do you know your fated mate? When your wolf reads her name on a treaty document and can't stop pacing. When she stands for the Pack even when they don't accept her. When she isn't afraid of your shifted wolf. When she risks her own life to hold on to the man from being lost to the wolf. When she throws away her old life to protect your ancestral home from the family who traded her like political pawn. This taunt, twisting story of a unloved daughter given to the Apha as part of a treaty, who finds that some love isn't conditional on being "useful" to the family business. And when the family business is shady deals and making money any way possible, the treaty with the Gordon pack is only a means to steal their value resources. Colin doesn't see an asset, he sees the mate he has waited a lifetime for, but a human mate isn't easy for the pack to accept, and time is running shorter by the day, as Lori's father is bringing everything he has to force her away from Colin and destroy the pack territory. The only thing standing in his way is Colin's unshakable belief that Lori is the only thing he needs, and Lori's ability follow all the Taggert tricks to the endgame. What starts as little more than a forced wedding will slooooowly build to a bond that could burn for a lifetime. This book is for anyone who loves shifters, big soft-hearted wolves, an attraction building to love, and political intrigue. The story is far from over so Kira Moss had better hurry up with book 2.

This story is dual POV, well written, and a fast-paced, emotionally tense, politically rich, arranged marriage to fated mates, enemies to lovers, contemporary fantasy romance between Lori, the female human auditor lead, and Colin, the male wolf shifter pack alpha lead. I enjoyed Lori’s clearheaded pursuit of reality as written. I enjoyed the way she pushed for opportunities and fought for a place for herself seperate from Colin. I enjoyed Colin’s self-restraint and his respect for Lori’s autonomy, as well as his consent focus. I enjoyed his self-sacrificing determination to care for his pack. I enjoyed the building relationship in the face of external pressure. I enjoyed the supportive secondary characters, especially Colin’s second, who I hope will have his own story later. I enjoyed the emotionally evocative intimate scenes that focused on relationship development, rather than physically sensation. I enjoyed the clever pursuit of non-romance plot goals and the solution at the end of the story. I did not enjoy the sheer volume of political manoeuvring, however I acknowledge that is absolutely a personal preference. IF this is the sort of story you enjoy, I highly recommend this story to you.

I liked the premise of this story and how quickly Colin’s wolf recognized Lori as someone special to him. Lori was an enjoyable character who was strong, smart, and clever. Her relationship with Colin occasionally felt a little sanitary and dry, but they had some very sweet moments as well. While I didn’t have particularly strong feelings for Colin, I was rooting for Lori throughout the book and her acceptance by the pack.
However, the writing often seemed as though it was trying too hard to be formal, dramatic, and mysterious. I felt like I was missing background information or explanation that would’ve made the initial chapters more interesting. The novel in general had overly confusing and complex protocol between the characters with minimal exposition. I was also disappointed by the book’s lackluster ending. I wanted to experience more of the couple’s happiness and see a bit more tenderness and love between them.

Lori's sister has been preparing for 4 years to take her place as the human Treaty Spouse with the Gordon shifter pack.
At the last minute, her father tells Lori she needs to go with no notice or preparation. Lori has always been the "least favorite" daughter. But she's built a career auditing her father's business dealings and she negotiates terms when she signs the contract.
Colin is the Alpha of Gordon Pack - and he senses the bond with Lori before he even sees her. But he's clear that her consent is vital to anything happening between them.
The treaty with the humans is not all it seems to be - and Lori needs to break some family ties in order ot protect her "new family" in the Pack.
She's incredibly smart and strong. She deals with every challenge that both her pack and her father throw at her. The claiming scene for this pack is one of the most beautiful I've ever read.
The build of their relationship and the strength they provide to each other is what I want a romance to be.
I have pre-ordered Book 2 already.

She's incredibly smart and strong. She deals with every challenge that both her pack and her father throw at her. The claiming scene for this pack is one of the most beautiful I've ever read.
The build of their relationship and the strength they provide to each other is what I want a romance to be.
I have pre-ordered Book 2 already.

Colin and Lori’s story was an interesting take on the mating ritual between a wolf shifter and a full human. In this take the world knows about shifter’s and their are “treaties” to govern who mates into a pack. In this case Lori does, but she wasn’t supposed to, her older sister was. What comes next in this storyline is what happens when the replacement chooses to mate with her alpha, and do everything in her power ( which is a lot, she’s super intelligent ) to help her mate and pack survive her father’s plans to take over pack land and everything hidden beneath it. This was a well written story by an author new to me. It was a romance, but no open door sex of note. I give it 4✨’s for great characters, but it does drag a bit in the center, a lot of political debate etc. but I’d definitely read more stories by Kira Moss if given the chance. I was riveted by this story. Lori is a fabulous heroine. She is smart, strong and empathetic. Colin is the Alpha trying to preserve his pack and what it meant to have a human mate.
They are lovely together. As a human, Lori’s lifespan is short compared to Colin’s plus no children has ever been born from a human mate. It was quite sad as everyone was aware of this. However, there were hints of Lori becoming something more. I hope we learn more in subsequent books.
Lori and Colin have to deal with the pack politics as well as the problems from her family. The world building is extensive. The story has twists and some spicy action. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Treated as an asset her whole life, Lori is surprised when she is called to the council headed by her father. She is even more surprised when she learns that she is to take her sister’s place as the treaty spouse with the Gordon Pack. After all, her sister has been trained in pack politics and life, whereas Lori has not. This is a great story! We have a bit of everything, from wolf shifters to humans. There are betrayals, and twists and turns I did not see coming, but was sure glad Lori did. However, this is a romance and that was truly satisfying as well, complete with the heartfelt sigh at the end. As this is Book 1, I can’t wait to see what happens in Book 2!

Treaty Spouse was a fun, fast-pasted enemies to lovers tale. The story starts out with a treaty obligation of marriage with an alpha wolf, and a last minute swap! The FMC is strong and smart, even if she is the only human in this pack.
If you like Bride/Mate by Ali Hazelwood, I think you will enjoy this one!
This book is very plot driven, and a lot is going on, lots of twists and turns, dealing with pack / human politics. That left me a bit overwhelmed at times, but in the end, everything come to a satisfying end!!
The love story seemed secondary to the plot, and seemed rushed at times due to the plot. A lot of yearning in the beginning, which I like. Overall, this is a good read, especially if you like wolf pack books, true mates, and pack/human politics!

This was a very long read. It was a well wrote story. Not very exciting. More documentary like than romance. There was a lots of misleading paperwork. Lots of people trying to undermine the pack by very selective wording in documents. The story flowed ok . There were times when issues were talked about and what was coming up but it never happened. There was some reading between the lines at times to understand what was going on. Was there romance ? Kinda there was a mate bond at work . Was it a good read yes but just not exciting.

DNF'd at an utterly stupid, completely preventable, tragedy / plot point. Sure, utterly preventable terrible stuff happens in real life, but this read too much as nonsense.
I'll pass on reading further books by this author.

Loved It!!!
This was a wonderful story that I totally could not put down from beginning to end. This story took me away from the every day grind, and I Loved It!!! A good story with steam and great characters. Looking forward to book two!.

Seems to be action packed, fast paced.
Very interested in the story, just couldn't get past the writing style. 100% declarative sentences. I also had a hard time following who was speaking during conversations due to the grammer/punctuation style.
