The medication family known as semaglutide or GLP-1 was first approved by the FDA to treat diabetes in 2005. Since then, these medications have proven to be highly effective weight-loss drugs that have skyrocketed in popularity. But, just like any other drug, GLP-1 medications have both benefits and drawbacks that need to be carefully considered before you begin using them.
That is where Dr. Julia Nordgren can help. Across the six lessons of Unlock the Potential of Weight-Loss Medications, Dr. Nordgren guides you through the history, science, and application of these increasingly popular medications to help you better understand how they work, who they can help, and how to use them as safely and effectively as possible. And while GLP-1 medications can be a great tool in your arsenal, you’ll also discover why it is important to incorporate them into a broader approach to weight loss that includes dietary and lifestyle choices that can mitigate side effects and help create lasting change.
As a physician specializing in weight loss, Dr. Nordgren knows that the journey toward a healthier you is never easy, and that there can be a lot of pressure and judgement connected to your weight, body image, and health choices. Even with the help of a medication like semaglutide, losing weight can have many setbacks and difficulties. The goal of these lessons is not to offer these medications as a quick fix, but rather to equip you with the essential knowledge you need to approach your personal weight-loss journey with the clarity, patience, and confidence to succeed.
With this being a medication that many are using but a lot of questions regarding this medication, I found this book VERY informative. Working in healthcare, this gave me more detailed information of HOW this medication truly works vs just knowing the common side effects and general ways the meds work in your system. The author is both a medical doctor and a professional chef. She gave GREAT advice on how to eat while on a GLP-1, how to try to introduce different and healthier foods into your diet as well as how to work out and gave instruction on how to do strength training exercises. I enjoyed listening to her as this was an audible book. I learned so much from her and now have a better understanding of how these meds work. I highly recommend this book to anyone that is one a GLP1, considering it, or are working with those that are on a GLP-1.
