Damen’s wife left him to raise his daughter alone. She said he was boring, and she wanted something more. Since then, he’s lived a carefree life without the ties of a relationship to hold him down. The only female that matters to him now is his little girl, and he’ll give her whatever she wants.
On impulse, Damen and his brother opened a restaurant called Marquette’s in the heart of New Orleans’ French Quarter, and they’re having amazing success. Everything feels right. There’s absolutely nothing more Damen could ask for, despite the nagging of his older brother, who says he’s not being true to himself. Then two things change Damen’s world—two people rather.
Heaven, an old lover, strolls into Marquette’s and applies for a job, and a mysterious young boy with a love for music stirs Damen’s protective instincts.
Damen is the resident smart ass of the Marquette family and single dad to his daughter Nita. When his 1st wife abandoned him and their young child he is heartbroken. Then just as he starts to move on from his pain he loses another. Now he is just content to work at his family restaurant and raise his daughter, that is until Heaven walks back into his life, literally. Heaven escaped an abuse relationship and relocated to New Orleans with her son to start over, but that's not the only reason, she and Damen had a brief affair years ago and her decision to move to his home town was not to rekindle the past ,but to share with him some news that will change everything. Good book, I liked the romance and love affair between Damen and Heaven, it was sweet. The story was good and I loved that we got to see Creed and Shada's evolution as a couple. This was a good romantic read.
Damen and Heaven's Love journey is a study in perseverance. As a young boy Damon had to overcome homelessness hunger even the violence from his father towards him and his siblings. And even with all of that baggage in his past he was able to love heaven. Heaven also had some very deep emotional scars from her past. She never knew her mother her father a professor ignored her constantly. Then she lived with a man who pretty much did the same thing to her and on top of that she beat her. So to say the least they both had emotional baggage when they met. It took them a while but love did persevere.
Big improvement with female lead than the previous book in this series. Damen and Heaven were suitably matched coupling. Damen the quiet, intelligent one of the three brothers. But don't let the quiet demeanor and intelligence fool you. He may not come off as a brut alpha like Creed, but don't test him. The exchange between himself and Creed in the office when Creed had only negative comments regarding Heaven and Gideon, did he not sweetly put Creed in place - yes he did. Heaven coming from an abusive relationship to let Damen know about Gideon could have handled that situation a little better. I believe had she benefited from some abuse counseling she would have and could have reacted and handled Leon popping up when he did. Much better story then the first. Now on to Stefan's story.
I am a fan of Tressie and The Marquette family. The story deals with Damen and finding lost love once again. Enjoyed that the brothers are still prominent even with this book being about Damen. The story of love, love lost and love found. Damen and Heaven meet again because Heaven needs to make amends and tell Damen her secret.
DNF. I was going to attempt to power through to the end, but I just can't. Tressie is good at capturing the voice of an eleven year old boy, the adults not so much. Everything was just happening at a very unrealistic pace. Heaven was more concerned with getting the cobwebs blown off her vagina than finally fessing up to Damen he was a father, and her son who his real father was. And who automatically hops into bed with someone they haven't seen or spoken to in 11 years?? And why doesn't Damen who is supposedly rich out the arse not have a proper bedroom for his daughter? Why was she sleeping on a pullout couch? Especially when it seems her mother abandoned her and Damen has custody, though that last part was never made clear up to where I read. None of that was making sense.
What else? Damen suspects that Heaven may have been in an abusive relationship and instead of trying to get to the bottom of that, all he can think about is having sex with her. The cognitive dissonance in this and for the sake of what? Nothing was sexy. Can't forget about the hasty proposal Damen threw at Heaven after learning he's a dad. Just, I don't have time to read cold, frigid supposed romance novels with zero character and relationship development. Maybe the romance kicks in later, but I won't be sticking around to find out.
Damen and Heaven knew each other in college, many years later she has moved to New Orleans to tell hi he has a son. Instead she ends up working at his restaurant. Little do they know his son has been coming to the restaurant and meeting up with his father . Good story would recommend
Although you should probably get book one first. I did like this one the best so far. Creed is sometimes a bit of a joke in the first book. But Damien is definitely the best man . Don't know about the next two but I'm hoping it can only get better.
Damen and Heaven are two people who have had interesting past. Heaven is getting out of a physically abusive relationship with one man and an emotionally abusive relationship with another. All she cares about is her son and making a good life for him. Reconnecting with Damen, who is a single parent after getting divorced from his wife, so that their son can have a father was paramount to her. While I did not enjoy this book as much as the first book in the series, Creed, this was a good read. I can't wait to read about Stefan and the latest addition Duke.
This was such a sweet follow-up to the first installment of what is promising to be a terrific series.I love the chemistry between the two main characters and their kids.I also like how the two main alpha females become friends. This is such a good story of recapturing love you thought was lost.I am so looking forward to more from the Marquette Family.
I couldn't finish this. The protagonist was just too selfish. It was so consumed of how she felt with little regard to her child. I filtered through the story for Shada, and she got PREGNANT!And the little wench went and told Creed, which btw I felt wasn't her place.I wonder how would she have felt if someone revealed that Damen was the father.

Absolutely love Tressie's writing style and it became very easy to get lost in Damen and Heaven's world. My only critique is that I wished it was a little bit longer.
This one was not as good as Creed. I still want to read about them. I just didn't feel the love from these two. It wasn't believable. I will give Stefan a try, hopefully it won't disappoint.
