Rate this book
Cali Rowsen is a small town girl who goes back to Iowa for her best friend's brother's wedding. While there, she learns that the boy she idolized in high school is not who she thought he was, but she also meets a new handsome face. Matt Gianni is a lawyer based out of Chicago and comes to the wedding with Ty, one of Cali's good friends. Sparks fly immediately between the two, but the day after the wedding they're both set to go back to their respective homes. Neither want to try long distance, so they make an agreement. For one year both of them will live their lives as normal, but when the time is up they'll decide if what they could have is worth working for.

During this year Cali struggles to reconcile the feelings she had for Matt as her relationship with her neighbor, Dan, gets stronger.

Will Cali follow Matt to Chicago, or will she realize there was something special in front of her the whole time?

One Year Till Forever is the first book by Katie Maas. Cali lives in a small little town in Wisconsin her cat and two hounds. When the story starts Cali is off to her best friend, Nicole's brother's wedding. It just so happens that she's had a crush on Jack since she was a teen and always tried to measure others guys up to him. During the bachelor party though Jack has too much to drink and hits on Cali, crushing all ideals she had about him. As she exits the bar she runs into a tall handsome stranger, Matt. Matt happens to be the law firm partner of her other friend Ty. Matt also has a lot of great qualities that make it hard not to fall for him.

“He volunteers for the VA hospital every weekend plus three nights a week he goes and helps out the wildlife center.”

Cali finds herself easily cozying up to, Matt which also seems to bring out the jealous side of Ty. I was really beginning to think he was going to go postal on Cali and Matt. However, later his actions are explained a little better and I felt bad for Ty.

After a great weekend, neither want it to end, but they know they have to go back to their lives. Because Matt just ended a long term relationship and Cali needs to work on a few personal issues, Matt offers a proposition.

“How about in one year we reunite somewhere and if both of us are still interested we try to figure it all out, but until then we live our lives?”
“Why one year?”
“Because it gives us both time to figure ourselves out.”

Sounds like a good idea right? That is until Cali gets home and begins a friendship with her neighbor, Dan. Dan also has some great qualities that are becoming hard to ignore. He also helped take care of her fur babies while she was at the wedding and has always made it known that he is interested in Cali. The question now is once the year is up, will she go to Matt as previously planned or will her friendship with Dan blossom into something more.

You will just have to read it to find out. I wouldn't say this was a love triangle so if that bothers you, no worries you are safe. My only issues were that Cali was so indecisive at times that I wanted to smack her and that I didn't really feel a connection with the characters. The writing was good and kept me interested throughout the book. With some twists and turns I found myself hating some of the characters one minute and then loving them the next. Overall I did enjoy this read.

Moving and sweet romance. Cali is a sweet and independent girl who wants love, but she is hiding behind a shield of fear and insecurity. She has been hurt before so trust is an issue. So when a guy comes along who says and does all the right things, he appears to be the perfect man. Matt is gorgeous, rich and knows how to make her feel good about herself. She can't help feeling he might be the one. Despite her strong feelings for him, their time together is limited and they must part ways. Only time can tell whether their love for one another is real.

I really liked this book because it shows how a girl who is hurt can move past it and find true love. When Cali met Matt all sorts of red flags were going up. He seemed so perfect, but due to her lack of trust in men, she second guessed his motives and whether he was real. Was he bad, was he good, was he trying to take advantage of her? These were the questions that seemed to plague her. Despite her defenses and doubts, she falls for him. So whether he was good or bad for her, this is an experience that helps her grow. She learns to trust and see what is real.

4.5 stars. I received an ARC of this book from the author and to be honest I wasn't sure what to think of it. If I seen this book I would probably skip over it since the cover didn't draw me in but Do NOT let that fool you!!

This story took me a few chapters to really get into it but once I was I was completely hooked and could hardly put it down. I wish we just could have got a little more at the end but I'm so happy with how things turned out.

For me Cali was a bit hard to connect with, she had some pretty annoying phases In the book. I really hope we get more from this group!!

One Year Till Forever by Katie Maas: Rating 4.5 stars

I received an ARC of One Year Till Forever in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Katie Maas for allowing me to read and review your book.

The cover is unique and intriguing. It is more than it seems at first glance, which is also the case with this book. This is a single book, not a series (although with the ending, the author may choose to continue).

One Year Till Forever takes place in Wisconsin and Iowa. The story begins with a short Prologue in the month of March where Cali Rowsen is talking to her neighbor, Dan, and then skyping with her best friend Nicole. The story then jumps two months ahead to May, to Nicole's brother's wedding weekend.

The story is told in first person. From this POV the reader learns that Cali is closed off, even with herself. She has had a hard time with her emotions and with making new friends. She is guarded.

This is a story that focuses on battles women face...the battle of want versus need, of truth versus lies, of holding on or letting go and the internal struggle of choosing the "right" path to follow. The book is well-written with a more traditional literary feel to the writing and language.

Cali must face many things when she goes back home...

The beauty of this book is that it reflects the flawed emotions of people and relationships. There are different levels of lies, deceit, wants, needs and desires. Some of the lies appear to be believed by the people who tell them. The reader has to figure out who is real and sincere and who isn't.
The book reads quickly. It does have level of love, romance and sex, but is NOT erotica. Also, it is not written as a "typical" book in the romance genre. If you are looking for something a little deeper, this may just be the book for you!!

*Book received in exchange for honest review *

Cali moved to Redbrook, Wisconsin for a quiet life, for her job and her pets. She receives a wedding invite to her best friend from home, Nicole, brother. Cali used to be in love with him and struggles with and decision to go or not, Nicole soon convinces her. But in her new home town her neighbour, Deputy Dan, is constantly asking her out but Cali continuously turns him down after an abusive relationship with ex Scott back home. Will she meet someone else at the wedding? Cali's choice is made right at the end....but what choice is it she has to make?

I tell you what, this story through me off the fence at the end....I was guessing something completely different but certainly had a massive grin on my face...and still do! This light read is refreshing, with humour and frustration as an easy balance. The style of writing is up my alley and the storyline, flawless. This book had my heart from the start and I highly recommend it.

I think this book was very well written. It has a great depth to the characters. It was nice to read about people becoming friends before deepening the relationship. I can't wait to read more by Katie.

One year till forever was a wonderful story of friendship and love. It kept my interest to where I wanted to keep turning pages. I was sorry the story came to an end. Maybe a sequel???
