Okay just one last volume, this manga was so big that i lost my excitement in the middle, let alone that the story didn't continue the same way it started...
We first had death matches with aliens on earth, and then we got a whole damned invasion.
So all the teams are on the aliens mother ship.
And as usual they are doing horrendous things to the aliens making them fuck each others! and fucking them don't ask me how did that turn out! lol
Sll the gantz balls are not working, and there is only one working ball with the Americans who are fighting the last alien warriors, including the one and only white haired alien who never lost his cool, who is going to be the final boss it seems can't wait to see the showdown.

Motherfucker.
After all of this, what do we get? A bunch of grade school level pseudo-intellectualizing about the meaning of life and the human soul. But before that, Kei et al. are getting "to the end" and on the way they witness several acts of brutality against the aliens, including one female alien being raped by multiple Gantz recruits, who is then punished for being raped by being blown apart. This was a pretty unnecessary scene for Hiroya Oku to put in the manga.
So then they get to the "end" at which there is an alien entity that answers any question put to it. I suppose it's not fair of me to expect any of the Gantz recruits to have any sophisticated understanding of philosophy, but the fact that these super intelligent aliens make the most sophomoric arguments about the meaninglessness of human life is just irritating. It is primarily based on the idea that meaning is externally imposed, and since all the human gods are myth, therefore human life has no meaning. And then the worst part is that they ultimately make an argument for reincarnation, basing it on the idea that the soul weighs 21 grams. This is a popular misconception based on utterly worthless research done by Duncan MacDougall in 1901, in which he had a tiny sample set (6 people) of which only 1 matched his desired outcome, so he discarded the data from the other 5. It is absolute crap.
The rest of the volume was a bunch of people fighting a series of resurrected alien champions, but by that point I was so annoyed I just didn't care. One more volume to go, so I'll finish it, but if this is what the ending is heading towards, what a fucking disappointment.

Awesome series of turn of events. With one surprise just after another. The manga in general had a whole lot of What the F. moments, and was even disturbing at times, although it shows us how we can exceed at something and have an incredibly good performance at something once our mind is set to achieve the goal at all cost. It had me really hooked up to the point that I didnpt want to read anything else until I finished.

This is a review of the entire series.

Synopsis: Gantz tells the story of a teenager named Kei Kurono, among others, who die but find themselves brought back in perfectly healthy bodies and forced to participate in a "game" where they must hunt down and kill aliens.

Review: I almost gave up on Gantz several times, but now that I've read it all the way to the end, I'm glad I stuck with it. The beginning is dragged down by repulsive and unlikable characters, a messily paced story, unnecessary sexualization and gratuitous violence without much substance. As it progresses, however, the character development becomes pretty incredible and the growing threat of the enemies feels truly well done. Once the real enemies are revealed, it's mind-blowing how the series had been secretly foreshadowing their arrival from the very beginning.

Although it takes a while, some really good characters are introduced later on in the series and they're the ones that made me want to read to the end. Some characters that were absolutely unbearable in the beginning became polar opposites of their original selves and even made me sympathize with them quite a bit. The protagonist Kei for example, I hated him with all my heart for the first third of the series, he became progressively more likable in the second third of the story and then he evolved into one of the most memorable, unlikely heroes I've ever seen in this storytelling medium throughout the final third. The last third of the series is unbelievably terrifying with some of the most gruesome and disgusting battle/survival scenes in the history of fiction. It's much more bearable and intense in the final third because this time the violence and horror is happening to people we actually care about instead of a bunch of unlikable nobodies.

The final third of the story is what made me feel so glad that I didn't give up on this series. It had me on the edge of my seat more times than I can recall. There are a ton of chapters but they're very short and full of action which makes the series a quick read despite having almost 400 chapters. So even though the first third of the story was kinda bad in my opinion, it doesn't last for long and the payoff that comes after it's over truly impressed me. It's a flawed, thrilling and horrifying action series that takes a while to kick off. When it finally kicks off, however, it kicks off extremely hard.

Volume 36: Chapter 368-377
Phase 3: Invasion
Arc 15: The Final Challenge

They being transferred to The Room of Truth. In that room, there is an entity that can answer all questions. Then, the truth about the aliens, Gantz and why human been forced to fight the aliens are all answered. The bitter truth is humans are just merely a thing. Their body are just a bloody chunks that being made by a chemical reaction. Their souls are just a 21 grams of data that being transferred from a person to another person when they die.

They return to the mothership. All the black balls are not functioning anymore except the American ones. In the middle of the transferring process, the remaining Gantz team must fight the aliens' guerilla forces. The strongest alien, Eeva Gund easily obliterated other Gantz members. He then summon Kurono to fight him or else he will set the mothership to crash on Earth. It will cause global catastrophe!

And there we go. The philosophical exposition begins. After the fight is over, with no explanation on just how humans managed to win, we get scenes of humans being assholes, and then the big reveal of yet another alien civilisation who helped us "just because". There was a whole bunch of lines about how lives are just matter and "things" and nothing more than dust. Not particularly convincingly delivered, but it did give the author the opportunity for fan service from several characters who had previously died, as well as a very convenient way to solve the problem of two Kuronos. Oh well, as far wrapping up dangling threads go, this one isn't too bad I suppose.

Gantz is the story of recently dead people being used to fight aliens. As the story progresses, the aliens become more difficult to kill. In this episode, groups of humans from various countries are fighting what they feel might be the final group of aliens while aboard a space ship that is orbiting the earth. There is more to it than just this. Gantz continues.

《Humans are an arrogant race, you believe you hold a special place among the creatures of the earth, but this is not so. [We made the choice that was left to us to restore order to the earth itself not to save your human race.]
From our point of view, you are microscopic. No more than insects. Even if hundreds or millions of you were to die, it would be of no importance to us.
As a child, you likely killed thousands of ants by spraying an anthill with a garden hose. Humans believe their lives and ants' lives are weighted differently, this is profound arrogance.
The so-called 'God' you cling to does not exist, human life is but dust and detritus.
This 'God' you cling to and hold so dear does not exist.
Fundamentally, you are not different from dust floating in the wind, simply matter and nothing more. Thoughts and emotions are merely products of minor electric currents, you're no different from your own electronic devices, just a bit more complex.》

I couldn't agree more.

Now the plot is reaching the climax with the counterstrike of the black ops, the two Kurono seems not care about nothing besides their sole objective: one seeks life in the figure of his loved girlfriend the other seeks death since he feels like a damned clone without soul, and the worst is to take along with him people who cares about him.
Atop of all this comes up Nishi... who seems to be playing the "ideal human role" in this war, with obscure purposes, what hell is that kid thinking? Besides all that, I like him...Nevertheless, in the end of this volume something doesn't sound good since we are getting an overwhelming victory quite easy... Let's move to the last volume of this badass manga!!!!!
