All Gareth must do is steal a dragon's egg and live to tell about it. He is warned by night whispers to flee from his tiny mountain village of Dun Mare. The stolen egg of a dragon will pay his way, if he manages to live long enough to sell it. However there are forces against him far beyond his understanding. All he believes he knows about his life and home is false, but the egg of the black dragon is the key. Many believe black dragons do not exist or have gone extinct. Gareth finds himself alone in a strange world of tempest seas, flying dragons, and powerful foes vying for the mental powers he may possess, and for control of the egg. Telepathic teachers a secret sisterhood, and the king's armies willing to kill for a black dragon are only the beginning of Gareth's story.
The second book of the series is expected to be published by October of 2015.
I've never seen a dragon, but wish I had. I live in Washington State with my wife, youngest son, and dog named Molly. I spend my time doing what I love the most: writing about an action-packed fantasy world of dragons, and magic. My leisure time is spent traveling and exploring the beautiful countryside in the Pacific Northwest from high desert to forests to coastal terrain.
In recent years, I've published over a dozen fantasy books including one called "DRAGON! Stealing the Egg" which began the idea of how to live and survive in a world where dragons are part of the landscape. The Dragon Clan Series is built on that idea. It is unique in that it introduces a new main character in each of the eight books of the series, yet continues the same storyline.
The book entitled Blade of Lies: Mica Silverthorne Story was a finalist in an Amazon national novel writer’s contest in 2013. My most recent series is The Mage’s Daughter, which is a little action and a bit of magic.
I have now read three of Clary's books. Each having a different flavor. This book although written earlier rightmost fastening and my favorite so far. Almost two books in one the first being the stealing the egg. The second is about Gareth finding himself and understanding his world. So for Dragon lovers it's like a double dip of chocolate peanut butter fudge ice cream. Only thing I didn't care for was not giving the black Dragon a real name instead of Blackie.
I say that but would dare do what is done to get one, not brave enough. I like this story with boy from small village with big dreams ( at least money wise at first) true he is suspicious yet trusting of people which I us find annoying. But reading it I understand why.
I read all 4 Dragon Clan books and Dragon!: Stealing the egg they are excellent reads. Love the story lines and can't wait for sequel to "Stealing the egg". Only down side is the books need a better proof reader, but this does not detract from great stories.
The words managed to penetrate. Faring nodded quickly, but said nothing, his eyes remained centered on the nest and the dragon barely seen above the rim above them.
Gareth suppressed his smile. “We watch the dragon fly off for her morning hunt like she’s did every time we saw her. All the tales say dragons do that.
The workmanship of a beast so large was impressive. Gareth wished he had time to fully admire it ash he hurried.
Tom slipped it into his pocket with a nod of thanks. Gareth through the heavy scent of the clothing would do more, but removing the old small couldn’t hurt, either.
Gareth listened to their conversation and had plenty of questions he’s like to ask, but didn’t want to make them aware of his interest, or wakefulness.
Tom nodded, although she was facing ahead and only Gareth could see it. “If one boy in a thousand can send or hear another with their minds, how many can do both?” She hesitated, and then said, “I’d guess Gareth is maybe one in a thousand of those with the normal mental ability men have. Maybe less. Perhaps it has never even happened before,
It has dragons and mystery, that's all the book needed ,oh, and a likable hero, to peak hold my interest. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Well done,Mr. Clary.
A good read. I like Gareth and his adventures. If you think you might enjoy a dragon fantasy about the initial difficulties of being a young man and finding that a dragon decides to consider you its mother, then you may enjoy this. Of course, after getting the dragon, you have to get to safety, which is the story told here. You won't find any dragon riders saving the world, so if that is what you are looking for, then I wouldn't suggest this book. Again, I enjoyed the story, and while it is open for further stories and such, this book actually ends with a decent conclusion, which seems rare today in fantasy.
Gareth is extremely well written with three antagonists. Will we see how Gareth becomes GARETH in book 2. How about his family - do they become a source of danger to him. Having read this book, I anticipate the next one to get the same. "I couldn't put it down" feeling. When will you, or have I just not found the next "Dragon Clan" book. You are becoming a main author for my insatiable reading appetite. bohngeorge@gmail.com
