As someone who loves a good horror movie set at a summer camp (expecially if it includes creepy lake monsters), I was so damn eager to get my hands on this book and it turned out being exactly everything I wanted it to be.
The vibes and atmosphere in this story were just so well described and explained that it made me so creeped out as I was reading, in the most loving way. I was hanging out to every word of this book, so excited (and stressed out) about what would come next.

July 13, 2026Endangered is a gory, monster-lover, horror novella by Beckett Krane. It is not for me. I branched out to try something new, and apparently, the less human-like the love interest, the less I can tolerate the intimate scenes.
This atmospheric story is very well written. The author uses a descriptive writing style that features vivid imagery, believably flawed characters, and an interesting character-driven plot. It's a bit of insanity, and even though it isn't for me, it is objectively well done. For this reason, I am not giving a rating.
There are thorough trigger warnings listed in the book. Those, along with the blurb, tell you clearly what you are getting between the pages.

I was absolutely delighted to receive an ARC of this novella. This is my honest review:
It was perfectly horrifying, and dark, and I loved it. Marlowe’s actions are simultaneously deeply concerning and absolutely justifiable. She’s an icon and I love her.
The smut was also SO GOOD.
I loved the ending, it really was the perfect way to wrap up the story. I hope Marlowe and Pike are really happy together.
If you want sapphic monster fxcking, with a hint of murder, you should read this one.

Unfortunately it wasn’t for me, but it was beautifully written. After reading a few of them, I think that horror romance just isn’t a genre that I often love so this review is not a reflection on the book but more so my preferences.
The way Beckett Krane writes presents very vivid imagery and they have such an enchanting way of describing each scene. The problem for me was that the scenes involved things like swampy gusts of wind coming from the lover and grotesque descriptions of the feeling of swollen worms on tongues. This isn’t a criticism of the book and more so just something I don’t think I can personally handle in a spicy scene.
I would absolutely recommend the book to those who enjoy horror romance as, like I said, it’s very beautifully written.

This is my second ARC read and I'm thankful to have been approved :3
I like the author's writing style but I do feel it does get a little exposition-heavy, and Marlowe's character still feels a bit edgy for her background. It's kinda hard being sold on why she had to kill Heather so badly.
I also feel like the trigger warning list was unnecessarily detailed and very spoiler-y lol like "murder" is acceptable u do not need to explain who did the murdering to who and why u know
The writing was pretty vivid, and I liked that a lot. I will say, I don't really understand why Marlowe was jumping around between pronouns for Pike. It's just too confusing and Marlowe also like, assigned the pronouns, it wasn't like Pike chose them.

Especially since I didn't realize what the romance aspect actually entailed (I didn't read the summary or trigger warnings, I like a surprise). I'm happy I read it, though, I like books that stray from normalcy.

First off, I’d like to thank Beckett Krane for this ARC!!
Second, woah. Absolutely woah. I am tough in regard to trigger warnings, horror reads and monster x human. But woah.
Beckett Krane was able to absolutely sicken me, while building a detailed world filled with spice, gore and feminine rage all while roping me in. I absolutely couldn’t put it down.
Do I think I could reread this one? Definitely not. It was DISGUSTING, DISTURBING, and frankly, SO CREATIVE. Not to mention WELL WRITTEN! I can’t wait to see where Beckett goes next in the erotic horror world because I’m genuinely so impressed.

a sapphic FX monsterfxcking horroromance that was indeed HORRIFIC. breckett krane is a new-to-me author who's writing style is descriptive and immersive, but i don't think i was prepared for this, which is MY problem, not at all the authors. my range of emotions was a repeated loop of the kombucha girl meme, and by the end i was like "what the fuck did i just read?" which i understand was EXACTLY what the author intended.
i would definitely recommend this to readers looking for a descriptive, gory, questionable sapphic monsterfxcking horromance that leaves you flustered, shamefully curious, and a definite supporter of women & monsterthings rights & definite wrongs.

3.25! Slimy, rotting, feverish, smutty. This was a bitesize novella that left me intrigued and grossed out at times, filled to the brim with sapphic freakiness that you want and expect from lake monster romance. I found the overriding commentary on religious trauma and conservatism set a perfectly jarring tone to the debauched fuckery between Marlowe and Pike. Horror is a site where transgression lives and this sits firmly on the side of gross and weirdly hot and definitely messed up. Devour it in one sitting like I did and you’re in for a ride!
Marlowe is determined to kill Heather for messing her life up, and a string of toxic hookups in the nine years since. But then a rogue encounter with Pike Lake’s hidden finned monster sets her on a path of feverish want and distraction. It should have been kill the girl and get out, but Marlowe instead is the one trapped in a venomous pull of inexplicable desire towards the lake and its monster…
Where this ‘loses’ a couple of points from me is due to the writing style made certain scenes a touch difficult to follow - not down to the story itself, but just the stylistic choices made that, at times, creates too much dissonance between the plot and the prose. I would have loved a little more context in some of the sentences to piece together some of the scenes, particularly during the action. I also felt that given Marlowe’s one-track mind on getting revenge on Heather (which we 100% support, women’s wrongs are rights too!!) I was a little wanting on plot clarity - mentions of what had transpired that ruined Marlowe’s life, enough to piece things together - but I wanted a touch more clarity so I too could feel burning rage at Heather … more so than I did at what she represents! This would have just given me a few more struts to stand on - before the you know… monster fucking took over (and take over it did, instantly). Perhaps this would have been resolved if the novella was a little longer!
But what can I say, I do enjoy a little lake creature and Pike is as vicious as they are tender. If you’re gonna make a bloodthirsty monster also insatiable and devious, and trill cutely, then I’ll read it. It was nice to be reading something and have it so rottenly wanton (literally) that I made a face. We love horror that makes us feel!

TLDR; Saphhic Monster Romance served sunny side up with a side of Satisfying Revenge in this
queer novella from Beckett Krane. A perfectly bite sized read that will leave you outraged, angry,
confused, and aroused.
I went into this read already excited because of Krane’s previous novel and their style of writing
appeals to me in such a specifically and beautifully queer way and this Novella was no different. It
was a nice 1.5 hour-ish read and it took me through every emotion, even the ones I wasn’t expecting
to experience. From the uncertainty and questionable circumstances in the beginning I was
immediately drawn in to this story and I love that there is a fully formed world around the story even
if only briefly featured.
Each character is so distinct in their own way without relying on cliches and stereotypes, rather they
exist as fully formed characters who exist despite the plot not simply because of the plot. The
scene changes were very well executed, and complement the frazzled nature of the narration, but
not in a way where the reader is confused about where and when we are. Also, as a newbie to the
world of monster romance I think I may just be in love with our Lake Monster character and I hope I
get to see more of them or more characters like them in Beckett’s future works.
Though the main focus is on the romance of it all, the plot and character motivation s are quite
compelling and really led me through each of the characters emotions and checkered relationships.
The amount of backstory that you get in this bite sized package is truly impressive, and does such a
good job of informing the reader of where to place their sympathies. I love a good character conflict
and the revenge plot point was so deliciously satisfying and although it was coined as “mildly-
justified revenge” I would go as far to say that it was totally justified in the end

I was not ready for this. I’ve read sapphic swampy monster spice before, but this brings a new level of violence, pain and rot to the table. I enjoy my reading limits being tested and feeling uncomfortable, and parts of this definitely had me making some unfortunate faces! So bonus points for that.
However, I do feel that some of the descriptive language was a bit repetitive. A lot of time was spent focusing on the rot and decay of the lake, which was very visceral, but didn’t leave space for other elements I would have liked. Also, I wanted to understand the history between Marlowe and Heather more.
Even so, I enjoyed the darker sides to Marlowe and her need for things to hurt. Also the fact that swamp monster Pike was definitely a whole lot more beast than beauty, but I was still rooting for them.

I… wasn’t expecting this. I’m not new to horror romance novellas, I’ve read quite a few but I think I may have been expecting more psychological horror than body/monster horror and that’s honestly my fault.
I’m all for monster fucking but I do have to admit that this just simply wasn’t my cup of tea. “Their gills feathered against Marlowe’s tongue like tiny swollen worms.” Something about that description was NOT IT for me. If you’re into a more grotesque description of deteriorating lake monsters and intense sapphic rage and burning, then this is definitely for you.
While I know this is a novella, I do wish there was a little more background to Marlowe and Heather’s relationship before Pike showed up. I think it would’ve made the loss of Marlowe’s opportunity to kill more impactful, but either way it was interesting. I did enjoy the back and forth between Marlowe and Heather (despite how horrible it was) and I love the idea of a FMC dead set on killing her lover but being foiled by supernatural beings.
Overall, this is a good, well-written novella, but the descriptions of the monster fucking was a little too gross for me to immerse myself in the read.

Single 3rd Person POV. 5🌟 4🌶️. 102 pages
5 Spicy Scenes
This book was all kinds of f**ked up, it was disturbing and it was so unbelievably gross. I don’t think I’ve ever had such a visceral stomach turning reaction to a book before and I loved every single second of it!! (And maybe that says a lot about me 😅).
Beckett pulled no punches with this book, from page 1 to the ending it never lets up. It’s filled to the brim with grotesque descriptions that will have your stomach rolling, but you’ll be unable to pry your eyes from each page. As a massive horror nerd that loves a good gore fest, this was right up my alley.
Krane wrote an intense novella that focuses on rage and revenges and a visceral need for pain through intimacy, which was both concerning and intriguing. This isn’t a fluffy romance that will have you kicking your feet and girlishly giggling, instead it’s a wild ride of violence, trauma and scenes so obscene you’ll be heaving.
Endangered will be released July 21st, if you’re interested in visceral horror romance and have a strong stomach I’d highly recommend giving this one a read. However, if you do in fact have a more weak stomach maybe give it a miss 😅

This book was all kinds of f**ked up, it was disturbing and it was so unbelievably gross. I don’t think I’ve ever had such a visceral stomach turning reaction to a book before and I loved every single second of it!! (And maybe that says a lot about me 😅).
Beckett pulled no punches with this book, from page 1 to the ending it never lets up. It’s filled to the brim with grotesque descriptions that will have your stomach rolling, but you’ll be unable to pry your eyes from each page. As a massive horror nerd that loves a good gore fest, this was right up my alley.
Krane wrote an intense novella that focuses on rage and revenges and a visceral need for pain through intimacy, which was both concerning and intriguing. This isn’t a fluffy romance that will have you kicking your feet and girlishly giggling, instead it’s a wild ride of violence, trauma and scenes so obscene you’ll be heaving.
Endangered will be released July 21st, if you’re interested in visceral horror romance and have a strong stomach I’d highly recommend giving this one a read. However, if you do in fact have a more weak stomach maybe give it a miss 😅

Oh, wow.
This is my honest review of Endangered, and it was definitely an "Oh, wow" story.
Endangered is a very short sapphic horrormance novella full of trauma, spicy scenes and a lot of character studies to do. First of all, please, please check all the CW/TW if you want to read this story (It is not for the weak of stomach).
It is amazing how much the author achieves in such a number of pages! The biggest hit for me was the way religious trauma was explored with both the protagonist AND the antagonist. I won't say much, but believe me when I say I'm still analyzing and thinking about the actions of the characters here. The plot, on the other hand, does not lose time, it goes directly to where it has to go, and the ending was a little abrupt but satisfying.
The protagonist, Marlowe, has so much heart and is such a complex character! She was not made to appeal, which makes her an amazing protagonist because of everything she embodies. The love interest was a darling.
I will say, though, there was a specific scene I had to skip, but that was a me thing.
Overall, I recommend Endangered to people who love horrormance, Monsterf...romance and a dash of body horror.

Beckett pulls no punches with this novella and thrusts us right into the action, sucking you into it's depths and leaving you wondering what the hell you just read when you inevitably devour it in a single sitting.
Our main character, Marlowe, is bitter and vengeful and ready to take her revenge on the one who has wronged her so many times. She is not a "soft" character by any means, and I love her all the more for it. Her rage and desperation can be felt so viscerally through the pages, and you can't help but root for her! And our lake monster, Pike? A vicious, horny icon if I've ever met one.
Though this wasn't necessarily a perfect book, and I would have loved it to be a bit longer so we could delve more into Marlowe's history and defining moments, the way it stays with you and makes you feel so many things so deeply (mostly disgust) is truly incredible! This bite sized novella checks a lot of boxes for horror lovers - rot, gore, rage, revenge, and a weird FMC with rather questionable morals.
What I loved:
First, the revenge. Marlowe is absolutely a woman scorned, and she doesn’t shy away from her anger. Heather has been vile to her for almost a decade and Marlowe is fed up. She’s come up with a plan to off Heather and nothing is going to get in her way.
Secondly, the rot and gore. There were some seriously nasty and weird scenes. The last explicit scene actually made me physically uncomfortable (in the best way).
Third, the ending! It was indeed a HEA with some action and suspense thrown in!
Fourth, the religious trauma. I will ALWAYS appreciate this element in a queer book.
What I didn’t love:
First, the repetitive wording/phrasing. I would’ve liked to see some of the descriptions mixed up with some variety, specifically during spicy scenes. This annoyed me enough to make these parts of the book more frustrating than enjoyable.
Second, some of the parts felt a bit hard to follow. There were some parts where I was thinking “wait, what’s going on?”
Third, I think this book would’ve really benefitted from some more specific flashbacks with Heather and Marlowe so that we could understand Marlowe’s rage even more.

I was such a huge fan of Beckett Krane's other work and couldn't resist the chance to be an ARC reader for this newest, sapphic horror romance novella. It might not be very long but within an instant of reading, Marlowe's voice grabbed me and didn't let go. She is so unbelievably angry at what's happened to her and I found it to be really satisfying just how blunt her narration is. Dark and furious, the moment she meets Pike is like a lightning strike. I loved the atmosphere and the speed of the story, especially as things got even more tense. The sex was swampy and freaky and in some ways absolutely perfect for these characters. Definitely read the trigger warnings first!!

Endangered follows the story of Marlow, who is out to get the most extreme revenge on her secret lover, but plans go wrong as a horny swamp monster intervenes! This was a fast paced, brutal, bloody and violent! There was absolutely everything in this book, from sapphic monster smut, religious trauma, villians, blood & gore, sharp teethy vaginas and a fantastic ending!
This book was an overall enjoyable read that left you wishing for your own webbed fingered swamp monster by the end. Krane write's characters so well that you feel so intensely towards them. I absolutely hated Heather with a burning passion, and was rooting with my entire soul for Marlowe by the end.
The finale scene at the lake had my heart in my throat, the tension and stress that was felt was immense, I was on the edge of my seat!
There were moments throughout the book that, unfortunately, I felt were not explained very well and experienced repetitive descriptions and this often left me confused on what exactly was happening, or where certain body parts were supposed to be. I had to reread some paragraphs over to gain a better understanding. I also felt that we were missing so much backstory to Heather and Marlowe, often just dropped snippets of the past.
Overall, this was a wonderfully enjoyable read that had such a unique premise that I was hooked from the get go. I would have loved more from our multi species lesbians! This was my first experience with Beckette Krane's work and will no doubt be checking out more!

Wow, this book was INTENSE. From the very first page we hit the ground running with a hostile FMC who has a grudge, a knife, and some bridges to torch. The lush writing contrasts beautifully with the sheer amount of rot and rancor on page. The pacing never lets up and I was living for it.
I devoured Endangered in two sittings and I never knew what to expect from moment to moment!
The prose is vividly, uncomfortably descriptive in the best way. This isn’t pretty romance. It’s not flirtation and second-guessing and besotted sighs. The FMC is angry and vengeful, and the LI is a literal lake monster with gills, prehensile tendrils, and teeth in unconventional places. The author committed to an unapologetic portrayal of ugly, inconvenient love, attraction, and rutting (lots of rutting) and the effect kept me glued to the page in a sort of can’t-look-away chokehold.
This book stuck with me. It got under my skin. It’s everything I want out of an erotic horror or horromance. To say the ending delivered is an understatement. I know I’ll be thinking about it for a long time to come. 4.5 ⭐️

This was an Experience. I've never felt odd about my partner seeing something I'm reading over my shoulder until now.

Am I embarrassed, or ashamed? Nah. I just - this is an unexplainable story. Not even to defend my reading of it (obv I enjoyed it), but like, I need someone to experience this with me! It felt like a fever dream!! How did Krane DO THIS??? I felt such an intense urge to give my partner a play by play of this read, and idk WHAT that says about me tbh, but I think this would make a delightfully fucked up buddy read.
If I'm familiar to you as a reader, you know I'm a monsterfucker. Always have been, always will be. This - Endangered, Pike - is something I haven't really found done before, and definitely not done so WELL.
My entire time reading was spent with my shoulders scrunched and even as I'm writing this my body is cringing a bit lmao. I spent so much time sighing along with the religious trauma, laughing at the audacity (respect) of the author, and so uncomfortable with dread and being grossed out. It was great.

I loved that the lake monster wasn't traditionally hot. This is not a gentle and beautiful mer-creature, but something that leans fully into the horror genre. Also, the descriptors were so evocative and amped up the feeling of danger when Marlowe would give herself over to the lust she experienced with a creature that could easily end her life from one breath to the next.
Through the struggle of horror and revenge, the ending was so satisfying and perfectly on brand with the tone of the rest of the novella.
I had a lot of fun reading this one and definitely recommend it if you're looking for a sapphic, horror, monsterfxcking read that doesn't hold back.

I have given this book a 3 star rating because while I enjoyed aspects of it, I really didn’t get along with some of the writing choices. I felt that more time was spent on describing the rot in the lake rather than the actual story. I would have liked to have delved a bit deeper into Marlowe’s reasoning for wanting to kill Heather, that part of the storyline was just a bit too vague for me and had me confused. The lake monster, Pike, was well described and I actually really loved them as a character. Unfortunately I did not feel the same about Marlowe. The excessive use of certain words was also quite offputting, I’d have rather not have read the same word in one paragraph several times. That being said, it was a decent enough short story and I did like the ending when Marlowe decided to rescue Pike. The spicy scenes were well written. I would still like to read more books in the future from this author, but would definitely prefer just a little more to the storyline without a primary focus on the smut scenes.

This author’s writing is so addictive. I love the atmospheres and the settings this author creates. The characters are also so interesting and dynamic. I fell in love with Marlowe. I loved getting to know more about her and her history with Heather. Who was also an interesting character as well. I also really liked the scenes between Marlowe and Pike. I thought they were so well written. This is a must read author for me when you want queer characters, I can’t recommend them enough.

You want dark, this book is definitely dark. Just how far would you go to break a toxic bond with someone that is unwilling to let you go and continues to tether you to a town you are dying to escape.

I discovered the author by their previous work, Chapel at Enders Ridge, and I must commend the author for their range because wow, this novella could not have been more different. Incredibly atmospheric and quite insane, this monster romance (?) sucks you in, perhaps right into Pike's Lake itself.
This book definitely isn't for everyone, as the vibrant description can get rather nauseating and gross, and of course, for the fact that the primary love interest is a non-verbal aquatic creature. I can really appreciate how the monsterous otherness of Pike is never shied away from, as it is constantly highlighted. Pike blends wonderfully into the rotten atmosphere, as do the human characters as well. Every character is very flawed and never purely likable, which is such a strong point in a story as deranged as this.
This novella is definitely recommended if you are one to dabble in monsters, horror, violence, and of course some romance all at once.

I discovered the author by their previous work, Chapel at Enders Ridge, and I must commend the author for their range because wow, this novella could not have been more different. Incredibly atmospheric and quite insane, this monster romance (?) sucks you in, perhaps right into Pike's Lake itself.

This novella got me hooked. It was written so well and the plot was intense I kept thinking “Wow” and would reread what I just read cause I couldn’t believe it.
I felt bad about everything that Marlowe went through, but she’s also such a bad person wanting that taste of revenge. The way she went to get it felt like a journey. Things kept happening and getting in her way. Like the monster. Their relationship was interesting especially the pull Marlowe kept feeling towards the monster it makes you question why is it happening. I gagged through with the swamp water getting in Marlowe’s mouth. But who wouldn’t? I tried picturing the monsters lady bits and even tried drawing a picture. Don’t think I got it right! But that will give me nightmares 😆.
Overall, it was a spicy, freaky monster novella. And I enjoyed it!

I'm just not escaping the weird sex trope this year 😂
This is a well written novella that follows a woman named Marlowe who plans to murder her not-quite-girlfriend, Heather. And honestly, in her position, I might have wanted to do the same. We support women's wrongs here. But not Heather's wrongs, cause that's not okay. Unfortunately as she is about to do the deed a lake monster attacks them and things get weird.
I opted for this arc cause I am trying to read women's wrongs and women's rage books this year. I am discovering, though, that monster-fucking is maybe just not my thing. Not the fault of the book, so it's entirely my fault that this one didn't quire work for me.
Not that I hated it. It is a good little book, 3 stars means good, and I recommend for people who like monster fucking and women's wrongs. Cause this does that well imo.
