Simple Lies

Rate this book
After meeting a tall, dark and handsome stranger one night at a bar while out with her best friend, Hadley Smith spews out one tiny white lie that would normally never affect her life, but this time is different.
Hadley has been in a three year relationship with Ryan Tate, a successful attorney who would give her the world if he could. She knows it's getting serious, and with an impending engagement on the horizon, Hadley feels on top of the world. That is...until her mysterious stranger shows up at her engagement party. Now her small harmless white lie could ultimately ruin the only good thing she has ever had.
Relationships are tricky, but deciding between a life you have always wanted, and the life you wish you were brave enough to live, can prove to be unbearable.

I've read most of Amanda Bennett's books. One thing they all have in common is a really good story line/ premise.

I enjoy the characters she brings to life and the situations they find themselves.
Simple Lies is one of my favourite stories of Bennett's. I felt the chemistry and character interactions were real and believable.
I do wish that Bennett had slowed the story down. At times I felt there were questions left unanswered that left gaps in the story or contradicted a character's personality.
I did like that Hadley, the female lead was not a wishy washy woe is me character. Declan was hot but I wanted more of him because he came across as such a presence. Hadley's boyfriend Ryan was a good antagonist and while hot was easy to not like. This made for a great push/pull effect on Hadley's heart.
Overall I enjoyed the story but wanted more. It's a quick read with some sexy, some angst and some humour.

Simple lies is book #1 in the White Lies Series, Amanda is one of our DEAR authors and always gives us everything that we want in a book.

Hadley Smith hasn't had an easy life. Growing up in foster homes, trying to protect her younger sister Ellie from their awful foster father. But now that Hadley is older, and Ellie is still missing, Hadley only has her best friend PJ and her boyfriend Ryan.

While things with Ryan aren't easy, both coming from completely different sides of the tracks, Hadley has never felt like she fit in with Ryan’s uppity lifestyle. He doesn't approve of her friendship with PJ and shows his disapproval every minute he can. Calling it quits with Ryan after he fails to put her first or prove that he cares about her more then his job or anything else in his life, Hadley and PJ head out for a night on the town where she is about to meet a guy that will change her life.

Declan Hunter is making his way up to the top in UFC. He has a name for himself and worked hard to get there, after meeting a gorgeous girl in a bar, and sharing a night together, Declan can’t get her off his mind. But when he returns home to attend his cousin's engagement party, and she is the bride to be, Declan can’t believe his eyes.

While things with Ryan are tense, Hadley is having a hard time dealing with his overbearing family and having their engagement sprung on her, things are moving too fast. Hadley doesn't know how to slow it down. Her relationship with Ryan is getting worse, and her feelings for Declan aren't changing. How can she choose between a man she thought she wanted, and a man she is so attracted to? They chemistry she has with Declan is undeniable, but a life with Ryan is what she always dreamed of.

Overhearing a conversation between Ryan and his family, everythings about to change, but will Hadley make the right decision? How can she choose when everything she thought she knew changed?

We can't wait for book 2 in the White Lies Series

This book was so good I didn't want to put it down! I was hooked right from the beginning. Hadley has a very sad past that she tries not to rehash. She is trying to live in the now and hope for a great future. She has a boyfriend Ryan who could give it all to her. The problem is he does not put her first he puts his future first which includes trying to become partner at his father's law firm. She is conflicted on her feelings for Ryan and as a result they end up breaking up. In that short time she has a one night stand or so she thought. Her one night stand seems to be more caring and sympathetic to her than her own boyfriend. She knows nothing will ever come out of the one night stand and she ends up going back with Ryan but can he really make her happy. She constantly thinks back to her one night stand and can't get him out of her mind and what she doesn't know is he can't get her out of his mind either. This book will not disappoint- it is a definite must read!
