Rachel Grace Pollack was an American science fiction author, comic book writer, and expert on divinatory tarot. Pollack was a great influence on the women's spirituality movement.
I adore this comic run so much. It’s wonderful to have a fantastically well-written trans superhero get the spotlight and be not just an action hero but also a bit of a romantic hero as well. Kate Godwin is an excellent character, I love her relationship with Cliff but also her relationship with Dorothy.
Speaking of Dorothy, she is absolutely a highlight of this run. The reveal of how her powers connect to her period and that book she read is done really well actually, all the build up delivers into a solid payoff. The side characters like George and Marion, and Charlie etc. are also all very fun.
I love how abstract, weird and metaphorical this run can get. It’s exploring some very cool ideas in very interesting ways. I’d never read the last storyline before and it was really cool to see the inclusion of the Jewish mysticism I know Rachel Pollack has written a lot about in her other work.
My favourite part about this run is by far the Teiresias Wars storyline. Particularly for what it does with Cliff as a sort of trans allegory. There’s so much material there on shaping your own body and dysphoria and it is wonderfully written. It makes his relationship with Kate more interesting, as she’s able to help him come to terms with his robot body and voice his thoughts on it in a way he hadn’t been able to before. It also makes them a great duo in general and I do love reading that storyline for that reason.
