I LOVED the first book and I anticipated to read Mason's and Lily's story. And it didn't disappoint me. Heroine, Lily, is the town's new vet with a traumatizing past who seeks revenge on her sister's death while hero, Mason, an ex-military is watching her as he's more than mesmerized by her. The tension between those two was off the chart and the anticipation made my knees weak. I loved Lily and how strong she is despite having experienced such a dreadful event in her early adulthood. Mason was so patient with her despite wanting to go all caveman. But he was smart and empathetic and gave her choices even he was dying inside. All until threat is knocking on her door and things escalate pretty quick. And the ending? It doesn't end in a cliffhanger but rather in hfn and I'm totally on my toes waiting for the third book because I want to know YESTERDAY what happens. Cole I hope you burn in hell. Dakota James' writing is intense and raw and I love that the chapters are short because it makes tension even more strong and gripping. I received this arc and this is my honest opinion.
I was so excited to read this book because I love a story where the man is all in the moment he sees her. That was exactly what happened with Mason and Lily. In the first book, you could feel the intrigue that Mason had once he saw her the first time. Mason is this rough around the edges, but for Lily he is caring and gentle. The fact that he can read her so well and tell what she needs just made me swoon!
To say Lily has had it rough the past decade is putting it mildly. She deserves someone like Mason and I'm so glad she recognized that. She is a determined woman who just wants to be cherished and loved. Mason had no problem stepping up to the plate!
The book flowed really well and kept me intrigued but the many chapters that were so short, I felt like they could have been combined somehow. I see that it was to bring the POV of each character in that moment, which I loved but it still felt a little choppy to me. This book really was so good! I love the suspense factor in a romance and this book had all of it!
not gonna lie, i was hesitant going into this because i wasn’t a fan of the first book but this one was SO much better IMO. I still hate Cole Turner so much though, it physically pains me to read about him. I get that he’s the villain and we need him for the story but he needs to goooo!!
Mason is part of the ex military trio we’re introduced to in book one aka Ace aka the sniper. He is drawn to Lilly the moment he sees her in the town bar, having no idea she’s actually connected to the trafficking ring he and his friends are trying to take down.
Lilly is skittish, rightfully so after everything she’s been through but it doesn’t take long for her to start to trust Mason and his friends. Which is a good thing since she’s going to need him to save her from falling into their hands…again
-dark cowboy romance -forced proximity -touch her and die -small town -morally gray MMC -FMC with traumatic past -found family -protective/possessive -he falls first -boy obsessed -virgin FMC -slow burn
I wasn’t sure about this book at first I was worried it was just going to be nothing but spice and I like plot. I was pleasantly impressed when the book a turn right away and the plot got super intense and stayed that way the whole time.
Lily and Masons story continues tell the last chapter. The villains in this one are nasty so if you have triggers please be mindful.
Lily is definitely not weak I love her character she still has signs of what happened but she isn’t what you would think. Mason what can I say he’s never wanted a relationship, but Lily is his and he will do whatever it takes to prove it.
The plot is a strong subject and I love how it carries throughout all 3 books. I’m definitely looking forward to next book specially after that last chapter!
This was a short and exciting read. Once I started it I couldn’t put it down! It just kept pulling me in more and more!
I absolutely adore badass FMC’s and Lilly was just that, she survived so much and still stood strong I absolutely loved the chemistry between the MC’s too not just because I am a lover of instand obsession but also because he didnt needed to hear her say it to know what she truly needed and that made me just in love in an in instand!
This story is written smoothly and filled with action, romance, sp!ce and revenge and I am absolutely recommending this!
I totally agree this one was way better than the first book. I really like Mason Rivera and the way he protected Lilly from the very beginning. Talk about smoking hot. 🔥🔥
I want Lily Carter. I want her safe. I want her close. I want her mine in a way that has nothing to do with logic.
Lilly wants revenge and when the person she’s after walks in. She’s on a mission to eliminate him.
I’ve never felt anything like it, but it’s to a point that I can’t ignore it any longer.
Found family and morals grey men who will do anything and I do mean anything to protect there women.
Good second book! There's a nice opening for the 3rd book out this summer, I think. The same feeling w the first book of how can I enjoy red flag men so much in books. If these scenarios played out in real life I'd be running for the hills! Lol
The slow burn and anticipation between Mason and Lily will keep you engaged in the book. And the spice scenes…yum. Mason has a fantastic dirty mouth on him.
