This is an important story in that it describes the back and forth process of a capitalist democracy to regulate something in the public’s interest - in this case sustainable forestry. The interplay of the interests of farmers, loggers, the well meaning wealthy and the academics is a microcosm of how things get done in the US. Less detail with less repetition, more summation of trends and less attention to minor players, not to mention the myriad of forestry associations, bureaus and departments with names composed more or less from the same four or five words in varying order (the Vermont forestry Association, the Vermont Division of Forestry and Agriculture, etc) would have made a better read.
