I love Wonder Woman. I only saw the Gal Gadot version, although Lynda Carter was in one of the WW movies. Still, anyway, being a lesbian, an island full of women is magic. The book said she was born, but the first movie with Gal said she wasn't born, she was made. Which is it? In the movie, she almost introduced herself as "Diana Princess of Themyscira." The boyfriend, Steve stopped her at Diana Prince, so I think that's how she got her name. In the movie, the poor thing was hoping that if Ares were dead, war would stop. Nope. It surprisingly has discussion questions, my answers: 1: I'm not sure. 2: WW and cheetah are posed differently because she poses like a superhero who got her girl and Cheetah poses the way she does because she is a cheetah and upset that she got caught. 3: Not much to say, like Superman/Supergirl, she has a way of changing into her costume. And she's magical. 4: I don't know what would be better than a jet. X-men have their invisible X-Jet.
This is listed as a graphic novel, but it really is a early reader type of book, with lots of drawings. I was definitely not the right audience for this! lol I think this would be a fun way to introduce an early reader to the Wonder Woman mythos.
Want to read something with your kids on DC Comic superhero Wonder Woman? This is fun as something to read aloud to your children! My kids enjoyed that I read this to them. It is meant for kids ages three to six years old and though my kids are older they still enjoyed it and I read this to them as a way of introducing them to the hero Wonder Woman before we read a trade paperback on Wonder Woman. The pictures are simple and nice. The background information about the origin of Wonder Woman is helpful even for an adult like myself! The book also explains Wonder Woman’s “tools” that she wears and its special powers. Towards the end of the book there’s also a helpful summary of Wonder Woman that’s perfect for kids. There’s even a glossary and discussion questions at the back! In terms of critical feedback: There’s some tough names involving names and places that makes me wonder how it could be for three to six years old but it is not a major problem I supposed, since its good for kids to learn. It is more a picture book that a graphic novel/comic book. I read this in electronic form and the picture and words at times weren’t centered and off where you see parts of the pictures and then you have to see the rest by turning the other page. Overall none of these input are big deal, and I found this as a great introduction to Wonder Woman.
This quick read guides the reader through the origin of Wonder Woman, from Diana's life on a far off island, to her decision to leave, and competing for the right to stand in defense of others.
I found several of the discussion questions at the end of this book kind of interesting, and agree that Wonder Woman and her origin offer some great food for thought and conversation material with young kids.
Some of the art in this book really drew my eye as well.
This is for young people. It talks about Wonder Woman's mother and how Diana got gifts from the gods. It goes into the Greek gods a little and then how Diana won a contest to help humans. It covers some of her enemies, has a glossary and even has some questions.
It's a good, simple introduction to one of the best comic book female role-models ever.
Congratulations on reading Wonder Woman: An Origin Story by John Sazaklis! You discovered that a real hero is simply a person who has the courage to be kind. Like Wonder Woman in using her power to save and do what is right. You can apply this to your life by also being brave and aiding your loved ones, much like Wonder Woman.
My son is five years old. He enjoyed this super hero story, adding more information to his growing knowledge of super heroes. Highly recommend for kids age 1st through fifth grades for those interested in Social Studies topics.
Incluye la historia del título más los extras: Todo lo que necesitas saber sobre Wonder Woman…, página dedicada a los autores, glosario y actividades complementarias. Tiene una nueva edición en hardcover.
Great introduction to the Wonder Woman and Diana’s world for kids. Easy to read, illustrative, enjoyable and short. My niece enjoyed it very much and so did I :)
Una historia corta de Wonder Woman sobre su historia, sus poderes y su personalidad. Muy entretenida sobretodo si te gusta la serie de la liga dela justicia (2001)
A picture book version of the story of Wonder Woman introduces the DC Comic character in an appropriately told and illustrated version for even the youngest of fans. The text is in large font, with unfamiliar words highlighted in red and defined in a glossary at the end which makes this story easy reading for new readers. I would recommend this book for public library collections or where demand for superhero books for younger students is needed.
This book is classified as a graphic novel, however it reads like any other children's picture book. The story of how Wonder Woman came to be was somewhat interesting: complete with teenage-angst-driven rebelling against one's parental unit. The story sort of falls apart towards the end much like a child trying to squeeze every letter of a large word onto a page before she scribbles off the paper.
Another basic reading book with some harder words underlined with a Glossary in the back! Learning things I had no idea about....I sort of remember Wonder Woman Lynda Carter and that she dressed like a slut but still--it works with the Princess craze because Wonder Woman was a princess! The thinks we learn!!
My 6yo daughter loves this, and checks it out from the school library at least every other month, and my 9yo son loves to read it as well. I love the message and that it’s a nice, accessible intro to this superhero for the littles. She’s super fascinated by the fact that I got to watch her on tv when I was the same age that she is. Definitely recommend for kids, boys and girls both.
