I really enjoyed this one! I read the previous Steel Legends book last month, and this series continues to pull me in.
Bound Lives is a heartfelt second-chance romance between a cowboy and a woman chasing her dream of becoming a doctor. Both are carrying heavy emotional baggage, and watching them work through their past while finding their way back to each other made their story easy to root for. Throw in a secret hookup at his sister's wedding, some classic miscommunication, and a hero who doesn't realize what he has until it's gone, and I was hooked.
The narrators did a great job bringing the emotions to life, and the chemistry definitely delivered. If you enjoy emotional contemporary romances with healing, redemption, and a satisfying second chance, this is a great addition to the Steel Legends series. 🤍

I really enjoyed Helen’s writing. Unfortunately when I applied for this ALC I did not realize it’s the sixth book in the series. I still really enjoyed. But I want to know more in the Steel Family. So I will be going back at starting at book one.

I’m going to be real and say that the saving grace of the story is the FMC, the choices she made, and the fact that she always knew her worth.
Sadly I didn’t see enough of the MMC to believe their connection or to find hime likeable as a character.
The tropes that made the story stand out to me didn’t stand out when I was working my way through the book.
And I felt like the couple’s story was told in other couple’s books rather than their own.

𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿: readers who enjoy emotional romances, healing journeys, believable characters, found family, and stories where trust is rebuilt one step at a time.
I somehow completely missed that this was book six in the Steel Legends series. Thankfully, that never stopped me from enjoying the story. It works surprisingly well as a standalone, even if there were moments where I could tell these characters had shared history from earlier books. Instead of leaving me confused, it mostly left me wanting to go back and read everything that came before.
What really stood out to me was how seriously this book treated trauma. Rather than using painful experiences simply as drama, it gave the emotional aftermath room to breathe. Fear, guilt, healing, and learning to ask for help all felt like genuine parts of the characters' journeys, and I appreciated how honestly that was handled.
Henry and Tabitha both felt like real people. They made mistakes, disappeared into their own worries, and didn't always communicate well, but that only made them easier to root for. Their struggles felt believable, and so did the slow process of working through them.
The romance was heartfelt, but if I'm honest, the intimate scenes were probably the weakest part for me. They were well written and fit the story, yet they never carried quite the same emotional weight as the quieter moments between the characters. When I think back on the story, it's the conversations, the emotional growth, and the healing that have stayed with me far more than the spice.
By the end, I'd already added the earlier books in the series to my TBR. I came into this one by accident, but I'm genuinely glad I did.

Lance Greenfield had exactly the kind of voice I enjoy for a romantic male lead. Warm, confident, and easy to listen to, he brought real emotion to Henry's chapters. He also did a great job differentiating the supporting characters in his sections, even if his female voices occasionally sounded a little exaggerated.
Victoria Villarreal was wonderful throughout. She gave each character their own distinct personality and made conversations effortless to follow, especially in scenes with larger casts. While her voice wasn't quite my personal preference, that's entirely down to taste rather than performance.
Together, they created an audiobook that was engaging, easy to follow, and well paced.

One of my favorite parts of this book was seeing Tabitha finally put herself first. She knew her worth and refused to keep accepting Henry telling her he wasn’t serious about their relationship or that he only wanted a fling. It was refreshing to see her set boundaries and demand the love and commitment she deserved.
Henry’s character continues to be shaped by his trauma, leaving him believing he isn’t enough. That insecurity affects the way he treats Tabitha throughout the series. Even though he’s in therapy, healing isn’t a straight path, and I appreciated that the story didn’t pretend otherwise. His jealousy often came across as anger, making some of his actions frustrating. However, I loved seeing his growth in this book, especially when he was finally able to clearly express just how much Tabitha meant to him.
This is a trauma-heavy story that highlights how deeply past experiences can influence our decisions and sometimes cause us to push away the very people we love most. The emotional journey felt authentic and was the strongest part of the novel.
My only real criticism is the spice. While it fit the relationship, I didn’t feel it added much to the overall story. The central conflict between Henry and Tabitha was never their physical attraction—it was their inability to communicate and the emotional baggage they both carried. Huge thanks to the publisher for the ALC! Even though I accidentally jumped straight into book six of the Steel Legends series without reading the previous five, I had zero trouble following along. If anything, it just made me want to go back and check out the rest of the backlog.
The emotional core of this book is fantastic. It’s a second-chance romance about two people dragging around some pretty heavy baggage. Henry and Tabitha have both been through things that completely shape how they operate, and I loved that Helen Hardt didn't rush their healing process. Watching them slowly navigate their past hurts, figure out how to trust each other again, and work through all that unresolved tension made their eventual breakthrough feel so earned.
There is plenty of angst and heavy emotional conflict, but it’s balanced out with these really tender, genuine moments as they start confronting what tore them apart in the first place. The pacing is super steady, and it weaves in themes of resilience and personal growth without feeling bogged down.
And the narration? Lance Greenfield and Victoria Villarreal totally nailed it. They brought so much raw vulnerability, longing, and weight to the characters that the dialogue felt completely natural and pulled me right into the story.
If you're into emotional second-chance romances with high stakes and great audio production, this is a winner. It was my first book by Helen Hardt, but it definitely won't be my last.

As someone who hadn’t read the previous books, I spent much of my listening experience feeling like I was missing important character history and relationships. The story seemed to assume familiarity with events that happened earlier in the series, making it difficult to fully connect with the characters or become invested in what was happening.
The audiobook presentation also didn’t quite work for me. While the narration itself wasn’t poor, the male narrator felt mismatched to the character in my mind, which created another layer of distance from the story. Between that and feeling like I was constantly trying to catch up with the existing world, I ultimately decided to stop listening around the halfway point.

After realizing he made a mistake, he decides to go after her, but an injury derails his plans and changes the course of their relationship.
Unfortunately, I never fully connected with the story. I felt like I was missing much of the emotional depth between the characters and spent a lot of time trying to piece together their relationship rather than becoming immersed in it. Instead of being swept up in their journey, I often felt like I was on the outside trying to understand what other readers connected with, especially after seeing so many highly rated reviews.
The narration was a mixed experience for me. Victoria Villarreal gave a solid performance, but I didn't feel Lance Greenfield's voice matched how I imagined the male lead. That disconnect made it harder for me to fully believe in the character and stay engaged with the romance.

Bound Lives is structured differently from a typical romance. The story starts post break-up of the couple. Their first meeting and the beginning of their relationship happened before the book begins. I wish Net Galley would indicate somehow if the books are a part of a series. Bound Lives is book 6 in a series, as I leanred from Goodreads, with Henry and Thabita's relationship starting somewhere in the earlier books which I didn't read..
That said, the author does a great job at filling the reader in on their story from the beginning, quickly catching up not just on the events but also on the characters' emotions.
Overall it is an emotional story of overcoming trauma, learning to connect with people, and finding true priorities in life. It's written is a very realistic way that required no suspension of disbelief on my part.

So much conflict and angst in this story with emotion that tugged at my heartstrings. This was my first Helen Hardt book, and I can’t wait to go back and listen to the earlier books in this series. I felt like this was still perfectly fine as a stand alone.
Both Tabatha and Henry were both dealing with some heavy trauma in their lives. Lots of character growth and issues to overcome in order to be together. I devoured this audiobook from start to finish. The narrators did an amazing job of bringing the characters and the story to life.
If you like Jennifer Hartman, you will definitely enjoy this book.

Bound Lives is the sixth and final book in the Steel Brothers series. The love journey of Henry and Tabitha continues. Henry and Tabitha are still dealing with the aftermath of starting a romantic relationship while facing individual issues of their own.
Their chemistry is completely off the charts and the more they fall for each other the hotter they get!
Thank you Helen for writing this amazing series. I hope the Steels series isn't totally over with. I hope this isn't goodbye for ever. 💜💜

A traumatic injury threatens the MMC’s life. The FMC was jilted. Oh, there is definitely some heartache and heartbreak. This story was pretty angsty. But there was also a lot of love, too. It was so heartfelt. There are some secrets and a few surprises, as well. They each held a place in their hearts for the other, but was that enough? There was some good spice in this book. I loved the ending of this story. I listened to the audiobook and loved the narrator’s voices. I would definitely recommend this book.

Henry and Tabatha. Fire and ice, day and night. They get together at his sister’s wedding. Spend most of the weekend together. Henry is still trying to deal with his emotions for shooting Angie’s attacker. The guilt is heavy, even knowing that he had no choice. He pushes Tabatha away. She returns to medical school and is attacked. Now she is trying to deal with the nightmares of what could have happened. Can they rise above their issues? Not one of my favorite “Steel” story.

I did enjoy the romance between Henry and Tabitha, although I felt that there could have been more character building, or even making the book a bit longer to cover more of their story. It was a cute listen, and the narrators were both great.

The Steel books come to an end 😢
Helen, you made it easy to fall in love with Tabitha's and Henry's love story. I'm glad Henry finally realized he needed Tabitha to be able to heal his brokenness. I'd love to see a "reunion book" with all the grandchildren coming together with their children so we can see how their careers and marriages are doing! Maybe even a book of Tabitha's and Henry's wedding? Thanks for sharing the books that mirror the Steel original boys!!!

This was a great conclusion to this series. And I had the opportunity to listen to this one as an ALC. The narration was great and really brought out the hurt both of them had experienced. I was glad that Tabitha had finally chosen herself. Henry let her go, he couldn’t have expected that she’d just run back because he was in the hospital. This was an intense and intriguing story. I was glad to see that Henry and Tabitha finally found their way to one another.,

Well this is bittersweet. I can't believe this is the end of the Steel family. What a roller coaster between Tabitha and Henry. Devastation that changes your reality is a big thing. Glad that they were able to address their nightmares/demons together and really hope that Henry finds what he is looking for in Frankie.

It was good, their story was a good finish to the others. I enjoyed it, it was a quick listen/read narration was good. Honestly if the book covers were different j probably would have read them they def don’t represent the book they’re more like romantic and not dark? If that makes sense. Anyway i liked it! #netgally

Loved this book but I love all the Steel's I am sad this is the last book
Henry said Tabitha great in bed together but understanding and communicating wasn't exactly their strong point. The two of them were both very flawed individuals and both need help psychologically but they will get there. I wish there was 1 more book so we could see them work everything out and get married.

This author is a favorite if mine, so I quickly picked up this audiobook. This is the last installment of the Steel Brothers series. I enjoyed this book as a standalone.

This was a perfect way to end a series. As sad as it is that the Steel Brothers Saga has ended, all the generations have gotten their stories — struggles and all - and their HEAs. I loved every part of the journey! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I usually do not get so mad at a character but I was mad at Henry from the beginning. Tabitha was a great character and I am glad she made the choices that she. I enjoyed the book. THe narration was a great.

A really good listen. I havnt read any of the other books in the series. I caught up easy enough, they do briefly cover the necessary parts. I really enjoyed it. Some fab sexy scenes. Lots happens in a fairly short time. The narration is great, loved the voices. Overall definitely recommend!

I just loved this series and the stories of the Steel family kids. Loved this story of Henry and Tabitha. I wish you would make these stories into a mini series on Netflix. Thank you for writing good stories Helen.
