James Hunt's passion for writing began at an early age. While his journal of yesteryear may never be the work of great fiction, he's been working hard every day since then to bring pages to life. James has well over a decade of writing under his belt, but his professional career in literature didn't take off until 2014.
James currently lives in Orlando, FL and when he's not pounding away at the keyboard you can find him at the theater or somewhere outside enjoying the beautiful Florida weather.
This book is fictional, but at this time what's happening with our government and our weather it could become a real in the near future. Afraid for my children and grandchildren.
I guess these people have never heard of desalinization…. So let’s start with that. All the fresh water in the Colorado river has been run dry by the west coast…. Solution? Cut them off and let them die. This is never going to happen but then again lots of things we think could and never would happen often do. Still the story is good and the characters are likable. I would definitely listen to more of this story. Great narration by Robin Rowan. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review
Seemed like half a book. Set up for the next I’m sure, but nothing very interesting happened in this book and the characters are very poorly developed.
Not a very long book thank goodness - it has worthless politicians just like the real world - why would I want to read about that? Will not read the remaining books in the series.
The southwest needs water, desperately, and the Colorado basin has dried up. No water to spare, anywhere. So what does the government do? I can't tell you, it would spoil the story. Suffice it to say that Evil Politicians do the Unthinkable. I love to read a good EOTW book. This isn't the one I'd hoped for, but it's not bad, really. It just seems as if every single EOTW book I've read lately has an Evil Politician wielding great power and making incredibly stupid decisions. And, hey, I have no great love for politicians. I wouldn't buy a used car from one, but I'd like a story where the government is basically as useless and ineffective as it is in real life. The main characters so far are Brooke, and her two children, John and Emily. They are in San Diego. They have relatives in North Carolina, and are trying to get out there. Two other main characters are politicians, Smith and Jones. (Yep, Smith and Jones. Sigh.) And this is supposedly a prepper story, but there didn't seem to be any real preparation going on. Maybe in the next book? Results: an ok story, kind of banal and predicable. But no zombies! I doubt that I will read the next book or three, but I'm sure true Prepper fans will enjoy them.
How many drawbacks can you think of when one man only thinks about himself and controls most of the government? Think about a life where water is rationed and that water is suddenly gone. Where that one man decides the fate of all who live in those areas when water no longer available. Exiled is a great story with many strong, likable (and hated) characters in a realistic, future world. What starts out as a normal day for Brooke and her two children soon turns into a race to leave their home when she realizes that something is not right. The story jumps across the United States, following this corrupt man and his opponents as he pushes through a vile piece of legislation dealing with the waterless area. Within this story are parts of really interesting storylines that will hopefully be explored and expanded. My hope that this one man gets his due will keep me reading until the end!
I downloaded this book for free from Amazon. From the synopsis I thought the story sounded fairly intriguing. I do think that some of the characters actions were fairly out there and unbelievable. I also couldn’t understand why the USA wouldn’t just build a couple of desalination plants to supply the people with water that way instead of going with what they ended up doing, but that wouldn’t have made for an interesting story. Besides those things I really did enjoy this book. I thought the concept was really interesting and something I haven’t read before. I wouldn’t consider this book a “prepper” story but it does lightly hint at how the main character Brooke’s husband gathered some supplies in case something happened. I enjoyed it so much I bought the second book in the series.
I really loved this novel. As the United States is changing because of water shortages the reader gets to follow a families fight for survival. Brooke's husband died in the war and now she and her two children have to get out of the southwest because the lack of water has changed the borders and she need to find a way to survive and keep her and her children safe in a world that is not going to get any better. I loved the conspiracy in this novel and the fact that readers get to see just what goes on behind the scenes in congress and what our elected officials are really concerned about. Only a rare few have the people's interests at heart. I can't wait for the next series.
Different. That's my total opinion. The drought in the western states comes to a worse case conclusion. If the citizens of the area flee to the East, the balance of the natural resources in the rest of the country could be tipped to a devastatingly low level. Life in the United States of America could end. The first book of the trilogy has set the stage for the rest of the story. You have to go on to get the results and conclusions. Book 1 was pretty well written and moved along at a good pace. If you like this kind of story you will definitely want to get your hands on the next 2 books.
The United States is fast running out of water. The Colorado river, which provided water for the western states, has dried up. Congress votes to exile 5 western states. Politics plays a big part in this story. A desalinization bill had been voted down three years before the day of this story, but has been resurrected and rewritten. Now the person who came up with the plan of desalinization must be found and persuaded to begin his research again.
I really enjoyed this novella. I'm ready to get the second book--but frankly, I'm tired of serial books!
The first installment of this series is very short and fast paced. The author doesn't waste any time with setting up background stories or visuals, you get just the information you need, when you need it, a risky move that not all authors can pull off but worked for Mr Hunt.
As much as I hate cliffhanger endings, I was expecting it in this case as I had committed to reading the full series before starting. I hope that the next installment is longer.
This is the first part of the story.Do not expect an "ending." I enjoyed seeing one point of view of a prepper story. The story already starts out in a dire state of need but there's always room for things to get worse. The descriptions are well done. This is a great start to the story and makes me hope for a good outcome for these characters but I know things will get lots worse before they get better. Worth the read.
This looks like the beginning of a very exciting series! End of days?.... yes Guvment hogwash?.... yes Woman alone trying to keep her children safe?.... yes Cross the US trip through hell?.... yes Romance?.... not yet, but I'm gonna order book 2. This is a very short and fun to read book. Get it now!
This book paints a great picture of how political game is played. Us against them. This was a great read. I am not sure what I would have done being in such a situation. I was hoping for the latter and now I am anxious to read the second part.
Image there's not enough water anymore for everyone and to top it off the government is not helping you. Thank god this book has a strong feisty mama. Brook is brave and trusts her instincts. When shit hits the fan you wish that Brook is in your group.
As usual the government throws away half the country so the haves can keep living and the have nots can rot. This book may be fiction but I wouldn't be surprised if something similar happens with the way the government is being run nowadays.
Overall, I enjoyed this. I found myself rooting for all but one character. There was lots of conflict, lots of motivation and drive in the characters. My only complaint? Too short, although I understand why the author cut it off when he did. Well done!
Wow. This book started out slower and when I really got good and into the book it was over. There were many times I said "Oh. My. God." out loud while reading. The subject matter really opens up discussion and makes you wonder. I am looking forward to the next book.
