Pounded by my Monster Rolling Pin: One girl. Fourteen inches of wood.

Rate this book
She wished for a simpler life. The universe delivered two seven-foot kitchen monsters and a bureaucratic nightmare instead.

Abby Dixon is barely keeping it together. She’s still getting used to her bond with a jealous, sentient stand mixer and the fact that her magical sanctuary bakes fresh pastries every time she orgasms.

Then a mysterious lavender-scented box arrives.

Inside is a sleek French rolling pin with violet eyes and fourteen inches of very polished hardwood… who has zero intention of playing nice with the mixer.

Now Abby’s life explodes into a territorial war between two possessive kitchen tools, the sudden interest of a shady Flour Council that takes “extraction” far too literally, and a supernatural threesome she never asked for... but definitely isn’t turning down.

Her pre-law barista is building a legal case, her bakery assistant’s cat has been involuntarily bedazzled, and her broody landlord in Prague is finally trying to come home. Meanwhile, a mysterious regular customer knows about way more than just her usual muffin order.

Abby’s done playing it safe. She’s done turning herself down.

Even if it means battling an ancient magical bureaucracy, embracing her why-choose destiny, and discovering just how much pleasure two monster kitchen tools can deliver… together.

Pounded by my Monster Rolling Pin is book two in The Kitchen Monster Romance a spicy, cozy monster romance packed with explicit open-door steam, laugh-out-loud chaos, found family, and the kind of croissants that make you believe in magic.

Perfect for readers who love their romance magical, spicy, and delightfully unhinged.

Abby has (mostly) adjusted to bonding with her stand mixer when a new (well, new to Abby) rolling pin is delivered to the bakery. Rollen is French, charming, and has OPINIONS about butter. He also seems to thrive on antagonizing Mischen. Which means Abby's kitchen has A LOT going on.

Now Abby is dealing with the start of a second bond (the timing of which is almost unheard of by Council standards), more bureaucratic paperwork than she wants to deal with, and a whole lot of secrets that are starting to bubble up. She's learning on the fly and her monsters are going to need to figure out how to get along with each other because keeping Abby safe is more important than figuring out who's the dominant kitchen tool.

Honestly, once Mischen and Rollen started working together, things took a turn in the BEST way for Abby.

I'm seriously enjoying Abby's full-body plunge into the magical, monstrous world she's found herself in. She's not only engaging in some steamy romantic relationships, she's also finding out just how loyal her coworkers are and how quickly they can adjust to the unexpected. I'm ready to see what happens next!

Turns out there is a limit to how many haunted kitchen appliances I can emotionally invest in.

After the ridiculous fun of Creamed by My Monster Stand Mixer, I was honestly curious whether Krista LaRae could somehow keep this bizarre universe entertaining. Unfortunately, for me, the magic wore off pretty quickly with Pounded by My Monster Rolling Pin.

The biggest issue is that the novelty simply is not there anymore. The first book worked because of the pure shock and absurdity of the premise. It was chaotic, weird, self-aware fun that fully committed to the bit. This sequel absolutely still commits, maybe even harder, but adding a supernatural rolling pin somehow pushes things from “ridiculous fun” into just plain strange.

And not necessarily in a good way.

To LaRae’s credit, the pacing is still quick and readable. At under 200 pages, the story moves fast enough that it never becomes painful to finish. The novella knows exactly what kind of experience it is trying to deliver, and thankfully it does not overstay its welcome. If these books were much longer, the joke would collapse entirely under its own weight.
The prose and tone remain fully committed to the absurdity, which honestly deserves some respect. There is no hesitation here. LaRae clearly understands the audience she is writing for and leans into the chaos with complete confidence. The problem is that once the initial “what on earth am I reading?” reaction fades, there just is not enough underneath the gimmick to keep things emotionally or narratively interesting.

Character work also struggled more this time around. Nothing here felt especially distinct or memorable beyond the increasingly bizarre premise itself. The addition of the rolling pin somehow made the entire experience feel less creative rather than more.

⭐ Category Breakdown ⭐
Storytelling: 2.0
The novelty and humor from the first book wore off quickly.

Character Work: 2.0
The gimmick overshadowed any meaningful character connection.

Pacing: 3.0
Quick and readable enough to avoid becoming exhausting.

Prose & Style: 3.0
Still fully committed to the absurd tone, even if it became underwhelming.

Emotional Impact: 2.0
Not worth continuing the series for me personally.

⭐ Final Rating
Average: 2.4 -> 2.5 stars

Final Thoughts
I can absolutely understand why some readers would continue enjoying this series. If the humor and absurdity fully click for you, there is clearly a lane for these books.

But for me, the stand mixer was lightning in a bottle.
The rolling pin just felt like leftovers.

Manbuns are hot when a rolling pin does it

I'm not into monster smut. I'm not into monster smut. I'm not into monster smut.
Yes I am. I am very into monster smut.
Or maybe I'm just very into these books. Because holy hell, Krista can WRITE! I've never had more highlights in a book simply because a passage made me feel things. And I'd kindly like to point out that it is now May 2026 and I'll take Book 3 immediately.

fun story

Fun story, but needs proper editing. There are several scenes where the setting changes (day of the week, which appliance is in tool form at the time, etc).
It seems very rushed compared to the first book. I hope the quality of writing will improve to the same level as the first for the next chapter of Abby’s story.

I wish these were stupider, lol. While i am still so surprised that the plot is trying to be serious, it's just all so silly, it's hard to take it as such. It's a fun enough read regardless & i like the recipes that are included at the very end - i'm tempted to try them sometime - i'm just not sure i'd go out of my way to recommend them.
