The OMG Test
Like Jane Austen's Emma, Olivia Daly can't resist the urge to meddle, but her Bridget Jones touch means things usually go awry.
Shop manager Olivia's well-intentioned interfering stems from a fear of change. When friends talk of leaving, she quakes in her stilettos (or sensible work shoes). These shoes must stay a step ahead to prevent this from happening.
Commitment is not at the top of Olivia's 'To Do List.' However, four friends with learning difficulties, dubbed 'Olivia's Misunderstood Gang' (OMG),think otherwise. They devise a test for potential boyfriend/husband candidates. Olivia approves of the test, with the intention of using it to find ideal - and more importantly, - local matches for best friends Jasmine, Melissa and Sebastian.
When enigmatic shop-fitter Connor gate-crashes her life and heart, Olivia conscientiously puts him through The OMG test, 'for anyone who may be interested,'refusing to admit how she feels.
As the test progresses, Connor passes each aspect with flying colours. yet he does appear to be hiding something. But unless it's a wife and kids, does it warrant a fail? After all, there's no such thing as the perfect man...even women aren't perfect all the time...

It's famous for connections with Captain Cook, Bram Stoker's Dracula and the best fish & chips.I now live in Warwickshire with my husband and rescue dog, Bailey. Don't you hate that feeling when you are reading a brilliant book.... you really want to read it but it is so good you don't want it to end well ....'OMG' the only word to describe this wonderful first book from 'Pippa.Franks' the story and characters made you laugh but also cry. Looking forward to Pippa's next book

The OMG Test is a very different kind of love story. The focus is less on romance and more on actual relationships. The plethora of relationships shown are so beautiful and heart warming that there appears no way to not absolutely love the book at all.
We are taken on a beautiful journey with Olivia Daly – a soft hearted person who loves everyone she comes across. She does not just merely love her friends and family, she loves them with a passion. She would give up anything for their happiness. And these people also love her back with am equal passion. Olivia has a group of friends who has learning disabilities. These special people and Olivia make up “Olivia’s Misunderstood Gang” which is abbreviated as OMG Gang. They all want Olivia to be happily settled and that is how they come up with “The OMG Test” which rates men on various qualities and decides of they are suitable for a particular someone. Soon comes Connor and The OMG Test is put up to use. Will Connor pass or fail the test?
The story is truly touching in many different ways. The relationship Olivia has with her sister Melissa, her best friends Jasmine, Sebastian and Finley and the chemistry with Connor – all are wonderful to read. There are very less cliches in the story, which makes it refreshing and amazing. Normally with love stories, you know where you are heading. But here, because of the multiple focus on various people and situations, there is always something different coming up at every turn of the page, which makes the book really exciting.
Since I am saying about the book, I must mention that the quality of the book and the pages are truly amazing. There is only one negative thing here, which is the cover photo. The picture does not give out the essence of the story. The scene is definitely one from the book, but it does not show what the story is actually about. A different picture of maybe a checklist or a group of friends could have done better justice to the wonderful story.
Anyway, I am sure glad I read the book because I totally loved it. The OMG Test is an absolute must read book

Step aside Bridget Jones; there is a new single lady on the scene in search of her perfect match! This book is just as witty, with more characters to fall in love with and cheer on!
Olivia Daly is a single woman looking for a good man, and she is going to use a test to do so; called “The OMG Test”, which refers to her group of friends with learning disabilities. The OMG stands for “Olivia’s Misunderstood Gang”…So, it is a test that they devise together. From the very beginning of the book, you will know that a man named Connor will be put to this test. Will he pass or fail? Is he the man that she is meant to be with?
Is this test an appropriate measure of a man? That was my main question from the beginning.
Pippa Franks writes with a lot of excitement. You can see it jumping off of the page!! Every moment I was reading this story I felt the energy each character had, and her character building was very entertaining.
This story has it all, it is funny, tear-jerking at times and all engrossing. It is about relationships of all kinds from Friendships to family…to love. I was rather impressed! Her banter was much like that of Helen Fielding’s stories, which I adore and can read over and over.

OMG this book was surprising every step of the way. There was nothing not to love about this story, the main character Olivia was sweet, sassy and adorable. She suffered from foot in mouth disease a great deal of the time which made her relatable and like someone you would love to have as a best friend. Olivia's love interest Conner was everything anyone would look for in a guy. If he wasn't checking items off of your perfect guy list, you may want to re-think your priorities. The secondary characters were, strong, complex, believable and not patronizing. I would gladly read a book based on any one of them as they were all interesting and quirky and brought depth to the otherwise funny and lighthearted storyline. This was one impressive debut novel, if anyone's looking for me i'm just off clearing my schedule so I can begin reading Pippa Franks second book immediately.

I really enjoyed the story. I admire and empathize with Olivia, the main character. She's funny and klutzy which I can easily relate to. I like that she takes time to share her life with those less accepted by society. Her cooking and driving skills need emergency upgrades but where's the fun in that? Read it. You'll love it!

I hadn't read any of the reviews before reading this, but when my daughter noticed it and asked me what it was like - I told her it was a bit Bridget Jones-y!
It was a funny and light read with bits that made me laugh out loud with the imagery. Good fun and a good read.

I. Hated. This. Book.
I'm not going to write a long review for this, because it honestly makes me angry. Usually I'll go into some depth writing about prose, characters and plot, but... just no.
This entire book is sexist drivel that has giggling women falling in love the first time she sees a handsome guy and can't stop thinking about him, despite talking to him twice. The man is stereotypically distant and isn't forthcoming in his past or his emotions. The "omg test" list has been done many many times in both books and teen movies for about 20 years now, and this is NOT a good example of it.
Honestly I found this entire thing so stereotypically sexist that I wanted to throw my Kindle across the room. There is no character development, I hated every. single. one. of the characters and didn't care an ounce what happened to them, and could figure out what was going to happen from the very first page.
It's childishly written. It's honestly like reading 12 year old creative writing on some fanfiction site. Very juvenile. The only good thing about this book is that it was so simplistic, I finished it in no time, so I never have to read another page from it again. Utterly awful book and I wish I'd never read it. I apologise to her characters for being written so "sexistly". You could have been done so much better.

A great book, laugh-out-loud, tears-rolling-down-the-face funny, just about most of the way through and right to the end. Some sad and heart-string tugging moments, but the book is well balanced with these interspersed and brief. Very good ending with neat unpredictable twist. You will want to slap Olivia most of the time, but you can't help but endear yourself to her, in fact all bar one of the characters are very lovable. I can see this making a good stage-play in the theatre. Deep, yet light and easy to read. We men could learn a lot from this book, there are a lot of pointers in here for all of us. Well written, with warmth and love throughout, making it difficult to put down as Olivia roller-coasters (perhaps dodgems would be a better word) through life. As the backcover says it is a touch of Jane Austen's Emma's meddling in matchmaking combined with Bridget Jones thinking. An ideal book to read anytime; bed, beach, commuting or couch, but beware reading in public places as you may get some funny looks when you start laughing out loud uncontrollably

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was a different twist on romance that kept me turning pages. This is a great debut book from Pippa and not wanting to spoil anyone's fun, I would highly recommend it. There are characters that you would find entertaining and may even relate to. It may also cause some to think about what they do with their time. One critism that I have is that I found that there, maybe, was a little too much mention of the OMG Test itself, having said that others may not consider that to be the case.

March 10, 2015Dnf. Just wasn't for me. I can't stand when a character continually harps on some hang up they have. The other characters are very likable, but when someone has such a fundamental problem like her profound fear of abandonment that colors her every action I feel like they need psychological help not a whole story written about them.
