But back in Gateway City, a familiar face has emerged—Zatanna Zatara, the Mistress of Magic. This time, her appearance is no dream—instead, it’s pure nightmare fuel, as Zatanna and a strange new Suicide Squad are set loose on the city with one mission...kill Wonder Woman at any cost. KELLY THOMPSON has a degree in Sequential Art from The Savannah College of Art & Design. Her love of comics and superheroes have compelled her since she first discovered them as a teenager. Currently living in Portland, Oregon with her boyfriend and the two brilliant cats that run their lives, you can find Kelly all over the Internet where she is generally well liked, except where she's detested.

Kelly has published two novels - THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE KING (2012) and STORYKILLER (2014) and the graphic novel HEART IN A BOX from Dark Horse Comics (2015). She's currently writing ROGUE & GAMBIT, HAWKEYE, and PHASMA for Marvel Comics and GHOSTBUSTERS for IDW. Other major credits include: A-Force, Captain Marvel & The Carol Corps, Jem and The Holograms, Misfits, Power Rangers Pink, and the creator-owned mini-series Mega Princess.

Kelly's ambitions are eclipsed only by her desire to exist entirely in pajamas. Fortunately pajamas and writers go hand in hand (most of the time). Please buy all her stuff so that she can buy (and wear) more pajamas.

As a recap of the elements Absolute Wonder Woman:
⨈➵ Takes place in a world where Diana of Themyscira is stolen from the Amazons as a baby, and put into the care of Circe
⨈➵ Diana grows up in the underworld (on Wild Isle in Hell) and develops the strength of magic first and foremost (but she can still punch a wallop)
⨈➵ She is based in California (Gateway City) and has a magical base called The Hieron.
⨈➵ Instead of bearing the Golden Lasso of Hestia (truth), she has 3 alternative Lassoes:
𓍯𓍯🟢Green Thysía - allows for shape-shifting
𓍯𓍯🔴Red Nemesis - reflects the pain they have caused to others upon the perpetrator
𓍯𓍯🔵Blue Troika - causes the user and bearer to plunge into a cognitive space where fears and guilts are faced

This volume has 3 main stories:

An Absolute Batman x Wonder Woman Crossover
- I was not excited for this one, as I felt that the Absolute stories worked well in their own lanes. But this crossover was a low stakes story that had this great moment included:

A story where Diana seeks to save the tortured Medusa
Story speaks for itself, but look at the glory that is Athena's characterization - GLORIOSKY!

Season of the Witch
Main chunk of this volume setting a Task Force X employed/brainwashed Zantanna Zatara. Really cool they stuck with the strong magical aspect of the Absolute Wonder Woman universe. Did not make it all about uppercuts and swords (although there ARE uppercuts and swords)

All in all, very happy that AWW remains so strong and consistent with the Absolute Batman and Superman imprints.

This was definitely the weakest Wonder Woman book so far but I still enjoyed it

Lot of great issues in here with the teamup, the annual, and the witch arc. I think the other volumes are a bit stronger than this one but it doesn’t mean this one is bad in any way. Things don’t feel concluded with Cane which I felt like was the direction this was heading in so we’ll see where it goes.

No, I’m not gonna start doing a bunch of comics reviews in Goodreads, this is a singular case (and I’m caught up regardless).

Another step down from volume 2 to just a really good comics arc. Cool Zatanna design and Kaiju fight with Giganta tho.

Half the dialogue is just an endless listing of Diana's titles and associations, and the other half is written in the annoying backward magic that grinds the reading to a halt. So...repetitive and stilted.

DC won’t let WW be queer but god knows that won’t stop the writers/artists from going crazy with the subtext
