She hasn't said a word since. Not to the police. Not to her husband. Not even to Nicole.

Nicole had Lacey at seventeen and swore her daughter would have a good life. Now Lacey is sitting in a cell, and Nicole's three grandchildren are left behind with a father who is losing it.

But Nicole knows her daughter. She isn't a cold-blooded murderer. Guilt didn't silence her. Fear did. Whatever happened in those woods scared Lacey more than prison.

So Nicole starts digging. But some secrets don't save people. They destroy them.

S. T. Ashman is an American-German author who calls the beautiful U.S. Seacoast home. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, she spent years working as a psychotherapist in the criminal justice system. The work gave her a rare window into the human mind, both the beautiful and the deeply shadowed. It's no wonder readers often say her characters feel real enough to step off the page.
When she's not crafting her next twisty tale, you'll find her chasing after her kids, nose-deep in a book, or curled up late at night with a horror movie and a husband who always falls asleep on the couch before the scary parts.

This thriller novel was extremely addictive, mysterious, and terrifying. I love that this story and the characters were both very multilayered. It is emotional and incredibly deep. It’s more than just a thriller novel; there are layers to it. What initially attracted me to this book was the cover and the story’s description. I was curious whether it would live up to my expectations, and it really did! I can tell the author really put a lot of effort and time into creating this! It is very well written, easy to read, and full of twists!

This novel is written from different points of view and across different timelines. This really gave me a good perspective on the main characters and what they were thinking and going through. I felt every emotion while reading this. It’s about not giving up on family, complex characters, and trauma. My favorite character in the story was, of course, Lacey’s Mom, Nicole. The love she has for her daughter is so precious. Nicole is a fighter, and she does everything it takes to protect her daughter and the family. She even risks putting her own life in danger. This is more of a fast-paced novel with strong character development! In my opinion, this one will definitely be getting a movie adaptation! It is powerful in so many ways! I give this book a 4.5 out of 5 stars!

Thank you to NetGalley, author S. T. Ashman, and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for this eARC in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I was drawn to Her Silence due to this description: She survived the night. The truth didn't. I was rewarded with a gripping, emotional, dark, chilling, tense, and mysterious plot. S.T. Ashman has written another captivating page turner which kept me turning the pages and reading into the night!

Nicole received a call that her daughter, Lacey, had been found covered in blood next to her friend's dead husband. Since that night, Lacey has not said a single word. The police and almost everyone else believe that Lacey killed the man. But her mother, Nicole, believes someone else is to blame and vows to learn what happened the night the man died and her daughter was left for dead!

This book is brimming with tension, secrets, and dread. I loved how Nicole never gave up on her daughter and always sought to find the truth. I also enjoyed the multiple POV's which kept me engaged and fully invested in this book. Another plus is that there is more to this book than meets the eye. There is a lot going on, and I was there for every second of it. I love how this book looks at relationships, trauma, and family. The characters are fully fleshed out and flawed. There are the characters who I rooted for and those that disgusted me. This book had me feel all kinds of emotions while I was reading.

Wonderfully written, well thought out, gripping and hard to put down!

This was the perfect rainy-day-at-the-cabin read. I flew through Her Silence in just over a day because I couldn’t put it down. The story kept me engaged from the beginning, with unexpected twists woven throughout that had me constantly second-guessing what would happen next. Just when I thought I had things figured out, another surprise pulled me back in. I also found myself genuinely invested in the characters and eager to see how everything would unfold. If you enjoy fast-paced thrillers with plenty of twists and turns, this is one to add to your list.

Thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This book has so much packed into it, but I don’t want to reveal too much! Just as the synopsis says, Lacey and Brian are having marriage troubles, and decide to go away to their best friend’s lake house. They leave their three kids with Lacey’s mom, Nicole. Brian drove up alone and Lacey carpooled with Amanda’s husband, Zach.

Early the next morning, Nicole gets a call from the police. Lacey and Zach never made it to the lake house. They were found on a country road with Zach dead and Lacey with a head injury and covered in blood. They race to the hospital and soon realize there’s something wrong with Lacey. The blood isn’t hers, and she’s practically catatonic. She won’t/can’t speak, and she just stares at people with nothing in her eyes.

Eventually, she becomes the main suspect in Zach’s death. The blood covering her is his, there is no evidence of anyone else being at the scene, and the police eventually arrest her. As she sits in jail, mute, her family, friends and lawyer are all working hard to figure out what happened. So are the police, and with politics at play, Nicole is worried her daughter may never talk again, and may never step foot outside prison again.

The ending of the book was fantastic, and there is a lot more to the story than the synopsis reveals. There are a lot of characters, which normally I find tedious, but I didn’t in this story. They are all quite interesting, and necessary for that perfect ending. This covers a lot of subjects, but the main story of Lacey is very compelling and heartbreaking. I think it’s much deeper than the average mute murder mystery novel, and I really enjoyed this quick read. 4.5 stars!

(Thank you to NetGalley and S.T. Ashman for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on July 21, 2026.)

HER SILENCE ABSOLUTELY RUINED MY SLEEP SCHEDULE (AND I LOVED EVERY SECOND) 🌲📖
Her Silence by S. T. Ashman 🔪🖤

First things first — thank you to NetGalley, Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op, and S. T. Ashman for the ARC in exchange for an honest review 🖤

NOW LISTEN. This book had me acting completely feral. 😭🔪

When S. T. Ashman personally asked me to join her street team, my response was basically:

💅 say less, babe

Because after reading Her Silence??? I would rep this book from the rooftops. She immediately approved my NetGalley request, and we’ve been chatting on Instagram ever since. She is genuinely such a gem AND an absolute thriller queen 👑🖤

This was one of those “just one more chapter” situations that turns into you staring at the clock at 2 a.m. questioning all your life choices because there was NO WAY you were sleeping without answers. I finished this in three sittings because putting it down felt illegal.

And this premise??? HELLO???? 🔥

She survived the night. The truth didn’t.

Nicole gets a call at 4 a.m. Her daughter Lacey has been found in the woods beside her friend’s dead husband — stabbed forty-four times. Lacey is barely alive, covered in blood, and completely mute.

She won’t speak to police.
She won’t speak to her husband.
She won’t even speak to her mother.

Yeah. inject this directly into my veins 🫠

What made this hit so hard was the emotional layer under the chaos. Nicole isn’t just solving a murder — she’s trying to protect her daughter while unraveling secrets that get darker and darker with every chapter. The family dynamics, fear, and tension made this completely addictive.

The pacing? Insane.
No filler. No lull. Just constant escalation and paranoia. Every time I thought I had something figured out, the book basically went absolutely not and ripped the rug out anyway 💀

And the twists??? rude. disrespectful. iconic. 😭👏

If you love:
🔪 psychological thrillers
🌲 dark secrets + family drama
😳 morally messy characters
📖 bingeable fast reads
🩸 staying up way too late because you need answers

…you need this on your radar.

S. T. Ashman officially has my full attention now because WHAT do you mean I need her entire backlist immediately??? 🖤

📅 Her Silence releases July 21, 2026 — but if you’re on NetGalley, go request this ASAP. And go follow the author because she deserves ALL the hype 👏🔥

There were lots of great moments in this book. The author did a beautiful job of capturing a mother’s love for her daughter, as well as grief. I truly felt for what this family was going through. I cannot imagine the trauma of the event, and appreciated that therapy was highlighted.
However, this family was dys.func.tio.nal. I mean, absolute whack. Whilst I understood their thought of the reasoning behind their decisions that created this family, I was left head-scratching. Ok, ok, I get that people cheat, fall in love, have affairs, yada, yada, yada, but everyone seemed relatively fine (?) with the mistress practically living in the house and all was hush hush about the affair even though everyone knew about it. Ans I just had a hard time believing that wouldn’t blow up as well as that the father’s drinking trumped this? Ok, now Dylan. I thought Dylan was a good kid overall (especially considering what he went through!), and I liked getting a glimpse into his young adulthood. However, there were some decisions he made late in the book that I really didn’t feel like he would make?
I adored Ginnny. God bless Ginny. What a faithful companion. She should get an award. I also loved the character of Nolan. A little rough around the edges, but overall a great portrait of someone just wanting to do good and what’s right.
I really, very much enjoyed the first half and especially the drama in the courtroom. I feel like we don’t see that a lot in thrillers today, and I really enjoyed that. I could have almost been happy with the book with just the first half (other than not finding out the WHO and WHY!). Overall, I enjoyed this read, but wasn’t quite what I expected.

Lacey was found in the woods beside a man stabbed forty-four times. Covered in blood. Barely alive. And since then she hasn't spoken a single word.
Everyone thinks she's a killer. But her mother knows better. Whatever happened that night didn’t just leave bodies behind… it left terror buried in the silence.

This book absolutely wrecked me. I couldn't put it down for a second. The tension, the heartbreak, the rage. Perfect.
And speaking of rage… Brian has officially joined my list of most hated book characters of all time. I can’t even explain why without spoilers, but just know that man had me SEETHING. Meanwhile, my favourite character was Ginny the doberman. Again, can't say why without spoilers, but just know she is a QUEEN.
The writing was incredible and I flew through this so fast. My heart broke for Lacey and her family (minus Brian, obviously). But Part One? DEVASTATING. I was already emotional over Ginny, then the ending of Part One came along and absolutely destroyed me. I genuinely had no idea where the story could go after that, but Part Two from Dylan’s POV still packed one hell of an emotional punch. I was a mess by the end.
Easily my favourite book by this author so far. Zero notes. Okay, one note: Brian should’ve been killed off...

Holy cow, this book! I am officially running to read everything else this author has ever written.

This was my first read from S.T. Ashman, and I absolutely loved it! It is a gripping , fast-paced thriller that kept the tension high throughout, but it also made me feel a HUGE range of emotions, which is so rare for this genre.

Nicole receives a call in the middle of the night that her daughter Lacey is in the hospital with a head injury. She was found in the woods near a murdered man and is totally drenched in his blood. The trauma has left her unable to speak. When she’s arrested for the murder, Nicole has to fight with everything in her to get justice for Lacey before it’s too late.

The mystery goes DEEP, and I completely lost myself in it. You will be constantly guessing because everyone has a secret, and the one person who knows what happened that night isn't talking.

A huge thank you to the author for reaching out to me with the opportunity to read Her Silence, because this was such an amazing book and right up my alley. Additional thanks goes to Victory Editing via NetGalley for providing the ARC.

Trust me: do NOT sleep on this thriller!

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I genuinely could not put this book down.

I stayed up half the night reading, told myself I would continue the next day, and then proceeded to absolutely devour the rest of it. The kind of book where you keep saying “just one more chapter” until suddenly there are no chapters left.

There is one character in this book that I feel such a strong, visceral hatred for that I almost need to send the author my therapy bill. And for a while there… this story genuinely hurt to read. I was upset. I was stressed. I hated it. Complimentarily, of course.

At the same time, some of the other characters completely found their way into my heart, which only made the emotional damage worse.

I do have a few questions about the ending. Or perhaps I should say… about her silence. But no spoilers here 🤫

ARC REVIEW

An absolute masterpiece psychological thriller! I was so captivated the entire book, finishing in less than 48 hours!

Right from the start I was completely tuned in, loving the multiple character POV’s, the intense family dynamics, and of course the dark whodunnit plot.

I adored Dylan so much and the love he has for his family, especially his grandma. While this book is a thriller, it also dives into the loyalty and sacrifices of the family which I believe really helps further the emotional connection to these characters. It was phenomenal.

Every time I thought I had the suspect figured out, another twist or secret was revealed. I was completely shocked with the ending!

I will 100% be recommending this book to anyone and everyone.

S.T. Ashman is rapidly working her way into my top 5 favorite authors! 🙌📚 At this point, if she writes it, I'm reading it. 🏃‍♀️💨

One of the biggest struggles of being a thriller junkie is that eventually they all start to feel a little... the same. 😵‍💫🔪 Her Silence was such a breath of fresh air! 👏✨ The plot felt unique, the characters had depth, and I never felt like I knew exactly where it was going.

And can we talk about that hook?! 🎣👀 This book grabbed me right away and refused to let go. It was fast-paced without feeling like a surface-level popcorn thriller. 🍿❌ There was plenty of substance mixed in with the suspense. 😮‍💨📖

If you're a thriller fan who's feeling a little burnt out on the same old formulas, definitely give this one a shot! 🚨📚🔥

Thank you to NetGalley, S.T. Ashman, and the publisher for the ARC and the opportunity to share my thoughts! 💕

Fast-paced, easy read, with good writing. I think this book shows a lot of potential. The cast of characters was good. Some a lot more interesting than others, though. I really think Part 1 is the best part of the book. Lots of movement; each chapter is more dramatic; it was great. I like the narrative switches; it didn’t pull me out and let the story continue to develop with different faces.

Now the cons. The story really fell apart in Part 2. I think Nicole was the strongest POV by far, and it wasn’t really close. The convoluted ending was lame. I liked what we were going for; I just don’t think it landed. Part 1 was so good I could’ve just left it there even with no real ending.

I normally do not post reviews this in depth or even care to. But I think this author has a bright future, and this book is a great place to start. Please do not take 3 stars as a sign to not read this book. READ THIS BOOK. Especially if you love thrillers. 5/10

What a ride!!

After reading the IKK Crime Series by this author, I just had time to read her new book. Multiple POVs over different timelines which just gave the story so much depth. I was so invested into these characters from page 1. Stayed up until 4 am, eager to see how everything unfolded and I was shocked by it all. Impressed as well. Lots of twists and turns. The blurb is just a little peak. This story is so much more. You will not regret picking up this book.

Nicole is my favorite character. She is the most dedicated mom and grandma. Nicole fights hard for her daughter and sacrifices so much. I don’t think I have ever been so emotional while reading a thriller but what some of these characters go through is devastating. Dylan the oldest son is my second favorite character. He takes after Nicole in just about every way. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, so that is all you get.

Shout out to Ginny!!

I did not expect this story to hit me as hard as it did. The lead character is a mother, daughter, and wife, and while so much trauma is happening directly to her, she cannot express herself because she is mute due to the tragedy she experienced.

I LOVED that the story is pieced together through the impact her silence and trauma has on everyone else in her life: her husband, son, and mother. Being a Wife/Mother/Daughter myself, this hit me hard. As a mother, it is something you always worry about. What if something happened to me? What would happen to my family? Getting those perspectives throughout the story was absolutely heartbreaking.

I could not put this book down. I had to know what happened, the who, what, and why of it all.

If you love a good thriller, pre-order this one or grab it when it releases on July 21st. It is so well written and such a fantastic read.

Easily 5 stars from me!

I knew when I read the synopsis and saw all the 5 star reviews that this book was going to be something special. I tore through the pages and audibly said “what!” about 4 times. Not only was this fast-paced with short chapters, but this thriller pulls at the heart strings. Definitely a read in a day type of book. Also, the scene with the dog (don’t worry nothing happens to him) might be the best scene I have ever read!

Lacey is found in the woods next to her best friend’s murdered husband. She’s gone mute, has multiple injuries, and the police have no other suspects. Her mom Nicole is taking care of the house, her kids, and her husband who is spiraling out of control. She is determined to find who the real killer is and stops at nothing to protect her family.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC! What a wild ride!

I could not put this book down. From the very first chapter, it pulled me in completely and kept me guessing the entire time. If you like fast-paced thrillers with twist after twist, this is absolutely the book for you. Every time I thought I had figured things out, the story took another unexpected turn. This one was such a good read. The writing had me hooked right from the beginning and I definitely flew through it. It wastes no time pulling you in, and the storyline catches your interest fast. I needed to know what really happened that night and every chapter kept me wanting more.

I loved the characters… minus Brian 🤣 He definitely got on my nerves. But the family dynamics in this one really stood out to me. As a boy mom, I especially loved the relationship between the son and mom.

This was a fast, engaging thriller with secrets, family drama, and twists that kept me locked in. If you like books that grab you immediately and keep the pages turning, definitely pick this one up.

Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Okay... can we just talk about this book for a second?!

I went into this expecting absolutely nothing, but what I wasn't expecting to be was so invested in every single person in this book. From the very beginning, I needed to know what had happened, and every chapter had me changing my mind about what I thought I knew!

I was so sure I had this one figured out. Like... so sure. I had my theories, I was connecting all the dots like a crime scene investigator with a wall of pictures and red string, and I was sitting there thinking, Yep, I've cracked it. Welp turns out I hadn't cracked a damn thing. 😂 Every time I thought I knew everything, S.T. Ashman threw another breadcrumb at me that made the story go in a different direction, and I absolutely loved being wrong.

One thing I really loved was that the story is told through multiple POVs. Every perspective added another piece to the story. I also loved the POV we ended on. It was the perfect way to wrap everything up, and I honestly don't think the ending would've had the same impact without it.

What I loved most, though, was Nicole. You could feel just how much she loved her daughter, and watching her refuse to give up, even when everyone else had already made up their minds, was honestly one of my favourite parts of the book. It really shows that a mother's love has no limits, and I found myself rooting for her the entire time.

This is one of those thrillers had me saying, Just one more chapter, until suddenly it's 2 a.m. and I've finished the whole book. The pacing was so easy to fly through and take in.

Thank you so much to S.T. Ashman and NetGalley for approving my ARC. I'm so glad I got the chance to read this one, and I'll definitely be picking up more of S.T. Ashman's books because if they're anything like Her Silence, I already know I'm going to be in for another wild ride. 🤍

The problem with reviewing this book is that everything I want to talk about would immediately spoil it, and trust me, this is a book you want to experience for yourself. So I’ll do my best to rave about it without giving anything away.

At its core, this story is about the strength, determination, and ferocity of a mother’s love. Nicole receives the kind of phone call no parent ever wants to get. Her daughter, Lacey, has been found in the woods beside her friend’s husband’s dead body. Traumatized by what happened, Lacey has become completely mute, and when she is accused of murder, Nicole does what any mother would do and she stops at nothing to save her daughter.

First of all, Ginny the Doberman dropped her crown while busy being an absolute badass, and someone needs to return it immediately 👑

This book is intense from beginning to end. The multiple POVs kept me completely invested, and S.T. Ashman did an incredible job creating characters that felt so real. In fact, several of the men in this book had me ready to throw hands because they made me that angry 😡

The story is packed with rage, grief, desperation, and the unwavering dedication of a mother who refuses to give up on her child. Every twist pulled me in deeper, and by the end I was completely blown away.

My only minor criticism is that there were a few moments where Dylan’s reasoning felt heavily biased and overlooked some pretty obvious things. But honestly, that’s a very small complaint in a book that I otherwise absolutely loved.

This was gripping, emotional, infuriating, and impossible to put down. I loved every minute of it.

Thank you @netgalley @stashmanauthor #partner for the gifted copy of this book!

Whewwwwie! This book was such a unique one! I went in expecting a thriller but what I got was a story has so lots of real life emotion and is much deeper than your average thriller. To me it felt like a layered family drama wrapped inside a suspenseful mystery. By the end...I was a little emotional.

But let me back the truck up...this book grabbed me from the very beginning. Two people are involved in a horrific car ride. One doesn’t survive. The other is found alive, covered in blood...but unable to speak about what happened. I found myself needing answers! Why couldn’t she speak? What was she trying to tell everyone? What really happened that night? I was completely hooked trying to figure this one out!

One of my favorite parts was the way S.T. Ashman wrote the mother-child relationship. As a mom, it really hit home for me because I could feel the fight to the death sort of love she had for her kids. The protectiveness she had and that feeling that you’d do absolutely anything for your children felt very genuine. ❤️ And then what I loved even more was how the story also flipped that idea around. As the children got older, they became just as willing to do anything for their mother. That just made my heart so happy because that is how the world should work!

The writing kept me invested the entire time, and just when I thought I had things figured out...NOPE. 😂 The twists at the end completely caught me off guard, and I genuinely didn’t see them coming. This was a first for me by this author and I’ll definitely be back for more!

Review of advanced reader copy from NetGalley and the author!

Wow!! I absolutely loved this book & couldn’t put it down! I read the whole thing in less than 24 hours!

I loved the multiple pov, getting the different character’s thoughts & feelings across different timeline. The differently layers really helped to bring this story to life and to understand the events that occurred better.

This thriller has it all… a murder, trial & crime element, grief & emotions, family drama, mystery, and suspense.

There are characters that I loved and some that I loved to hate. I absolutely love when an author writes characters so well you feel such extreme emotions about them.

My favorite character was Nicole with her love, loyalty & devotion to her daughter & family. The women in this book are strong, determined, and resilient.

My least favorite character was a tie between Brian and the attorney general. You will see why when you read this one.

I definitely recommend reading this one! I am going to check out other books written by this author asap!!

Fast-paced, easy to read thriller. I loved the writing and the characters. The author made it easy to love certain characters (Dylan & Nicole) and even easier to dislike others (Brian).

For me, Part 1 of the book was the best part. It was fast-paced and kept me up all night wanting to know what was going to happen next. I loved the courtroom drama and where the story was going!

Part 2?? I was a bit confused. Why did we all of a sudden jump forward 8 years? I feel like we missed so much time and not for any reason that really added to the plot. The grandma was the biggest character in the 1st part and then her role/POV went to almost nothing in the 2nd part which was a little sad. I enjoyed some of the little tid bits of information we got at the end but I just felt like something was missing.

Overall, it was a good read that kept me interested and I enjoyed this authors writing! Worth reading!!

Nicole might just be the most badass FMC in a thriller I’ve read yet! Fierce. Loyal. Determined. She never gave up when it came to her daughter and the justice she thought she deserved. The justice system had me FUMING.

While I didn’t like the time jump, I found it to be very realistic to how these things can play out. I’m so glad Dylan got the answers they all waited years to get. The dynamic between Amanda, Brian, and Lacey is so strange to me. Brian can kick rocks, and I wish he got more than what was handed to him. I hated to see where all that hard work and determination landed Nicole, but I’m so glad Dylan turned into the man his father could never be, so that there was someone to take care of her.

Overall, this was a whirlwind that I didn’t want to put down. A big thanks to the author for sending a copy my way! This one will stick with me.

Her Silence by S T Ashman was a gripping and fast-paced read that kept me hooked from the start. The story is shocking and upsetting in places, especially with the strong themes of death and grief running throughout, but it’s also a powerful story about family loyalty, resilience, and inner strength.
The characters felt believable, and the emotional moments really stayed with me. Just when I thought I had worked everything out, the plot twist completely caught me off guard. A tense and emotional thriller that’s hard to put down.

This is one of the few times I have been wrong about the ending throughout the whole book. Definitely making it a psychological thriller, with domestic suspense, dark family secrets, that needs to be read ASAP.

The 3 POVs in the book was fantastic, allowing you to get more into the book and behind the MCs.

As I've said Thriller fans need to make sure they add this to TBRs.

There’s a reason this one is so highly requested!
@stashmanauthor does it again with this twisty, jaw dropping, edge of your seat kind of thriller 😯

I have been hoping for a book I just could not put down and this one absolutely delivered. I finished it in less than 24 hours— so obviously this one needs to move closer to the top of your TBR!
The fact that our FMC is mute nearly the entire time was killing me, but in the best way. I honestly loved this aspect of the book and where it would lead us in the grand scheme of things.

It’s obvious that Lacey’s experience has traumatized her dramatically. Yet what unfolds as her mother fights for the truth will leave you mind blown.

A best friend’s husband who’s dead.
That best friend might just be shady.?
Lacey’s own husband is keeping a dirty secret or two.
A mother who KNOWS her daughter and is bound and determined to prove her innocence.

One of the best thrillers I’ve read in a while.

This book had me completely hooked from the first few chapters. It was twisty, heartbreaking, and had me questioning everyone until the very end. What I loved most was how vividly everything was written. I could picture every scene so clearly that it felt like I was watching a movie in my head. This was my first book by this author, and it definitely won’t be my last.

Her Silence completely lived up to the hype! From the very first chapter, I was hooked. The short chapters and multiple points of view kept the story moving at the perfect pace, making it nearly impossible to put down.
The tangled family dynamics added so much depth and tension, and just when I thought I had everything figured out, the ending completely delivered. I can absolutely see why so many of my friends recommended this one!
If you're looking for a gripping psychological thriller that will keep you guessing, Her Silence is a must-read. It would also make an excellent book club pick with so much to discuss. Highly recommend!
