Eternity Gambit #2

Devil May Care

Rate this book
Working in the Temptations Department in H.E.LLc isn’t about stock tips and sugar plums. It’s more like hands-on demolition and no one can implode a wicked man’s life with sexier flair than demonic agent, Lillith Fields.
Except her newest target is providing way too many challenges and for a girl who’s used to toppling men with the slightest glance, Jackson Kent is not giving in—at least, not without a fight. He is a sports legend and a rising celebrity flagged by Upper Management for a lesson in humility or what Hades Enterprises likes to call a “take down”, but Lilly sees him as very delicious low-hanging fruit.
Jackson Kent never jumps without looking and instead of turning to putty in her hands, he is making a demon rethink her tactics. It’s Lilly who’s melting when Jackson turns sincere eyes her direction and no matter how hard she tries, the seduction isn’t going how she’d planned. It turns out that Jackson Kent might just be the very first Good Guy she’s ever met.
It’s the Temptress who’s tempted to forfeit the game and bare all.
But how will a truly good guy feel when the woman of his dreams isn’t a good girl by anyone’s reckoning? It’s a tough call and for Lilly, it’s life and death. Love is a dangerous move for a demon and she could lose more than the game if Jackson sends her packing.

What in the world is a retired Navy chaplain’s daughter doing writing scorching hot historical romances and paranormal graphic novels? Renee Bernard is applying a great education from traveling all over the world to story telling and doing her best to keep her father proud. Truthfully, her father is her number one fan, even though he has sworn never to read a single word of her books (a vow he has kept to this day!) Nothing stops him from telling everyone he knows that his daughter is now a USA Today Bestselling author or from handing out bookmarks on the golf course. Love can make even a minister do strange things!

Renee Bernard is a freelance writer and host of “Canned Laughter and Coffee” on Readers Entertainment, as well as a contributor to Romantic Times BookReviews magazine. Renee currently lives in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in Northern California. (Note an interesting proximity to great wineries!)

LOVED IT!

I couldn’t wait to revisit the world of H.E. LLc. and DEVIL MAY CARE combines all the imaginative, fun-packed elements and quirky characters I loved so much in DEVIL TO PAY.

From the moment she gets stuck in the revolving doors, Lillith (Lilly) completely stole the show for me. A Temptress of the First Plane, confident in her demonic abilities, it was delightful to watch her plans to seduce Jackson fail at every turn. I loved her bewilderment when she finds herself succumbing to human frailties and emotions.

There he was. The man she was about to seduce and destroy with her delectable feminine powers and she had…. the hiccups?

No wonder Jackson puts Lilly in a tail spin. He is a genuinely caring and sincere but sexy with it. It did make me wonder why the Upper Management were so determined he should be “taken down”. I also love how he is willing to face the top brass at H.E. LLc to fight for the woman he loves.

He wasn’t thinking about his odds of survival. He wasn’t thinking at all.
He was going to save the woman he loved.

Although there is only one kiss (albeit a pretty hot one), the potent chemistry and brilliant dialogue between Lilly and Jackson create a deliciously sexy romance.

The secondary characters – Lilly’s boss, Asmodeus, the demonic Prince of Lust; crisp and business-like Laurel Marsh, Jackson’s coordinator; Malcolm, the acting Regent of Hell – all add to the fun. I loved Malcolm in Devil to Pay with his demonic humour and I do hope he gets his own book. One of my favourite quotes comes from him.

“Start a new office pool.”
Jessia brightened and pulled out her tablet to take notes. “On what subject?”
“On whether or not I end up doing the chicken dance with the mother of the groom, of course.”

I could tell how much fun Ms. Bernard had writing this book and I enjoyed laughing right along envisioning this unusual corporation and its players. With her vivid wit and imagination of Heaven and Hell’s machinations, she’s produced a story where love changes all, where kindness matters, why giving back is so important, and how charity work changes people’s lives—yes, even with the help of Hell.

Hells best of demons in her craft, Lillith Fields was full of spunk, sexual allure, a wicked sense of humor and the very devil (tongue in cheek). She was also someone who could cunningly seek out the lay of the land, so had a hard time trying to take down such an honorable and caring man as Jackson Kent. Demons, it seems, may have some ethics after all. Lillith was a demon with a flaw and ended breaking the rules--unpardonable, it would appear.

Ms. Bernard made her very likeable and perfect candidate for her job. I liked how Lillith worked with the material she had at hand, never seeming to break the rules. But Jackson Kent was just too perfect, even for her demonic heart. Would she betray and take down this man to keep her station in Hell?

The story was a funny frolic with demons, a temptress, and wonderful hero. Do read this series. Hell never looked so good!

Ok, This is the second book in the H.E.L.L, Inc. Eternity Gambit Series. I loved the first one and this one is even better. Renee is the only author I will take the time to read a Contemporary novel. What a Fun Read!!! I laughed out loud alot. Demon Lillith Fields is assigned to teach a human male a lesson and humilate him. The problem is that she likes him. This is a unique story written by an amazingly witty, ingenious, smart, author who is an automatic buy when she releases a book. The concept for this series is so original and inventive. The situations that her characters get into are surprising, mind blowing, tender. funny and all around entertaining. If you like a super natural in your plot along with a great cast of characters, and a amazing story this is the book for you.

Another hit for Renee's Eternity Gambit series.

Once again Renee has taken us into the inner sanctum of H.E.Llc.This time a Temptress has an assignment to take a mortal man down. The way she goes about it and the reprecussions of her actions make for great reading . Renee has a knack for spinning a tale to make it believable with one rooting for the characters who are both humans and demons. As the series continues I hope Malcolm's story is revealed and he gets to experience the feelings that the characters of the first two books were able to learn to cope with . (HINT,HINT RENEE) Both Devil to Pay and Devil Take Care are books everyone who loves to read, regardless of favorite genre, would thoroughly enjoy.

Book 2 of the Eternity Gambit series, Devil May Care, delivers another splendid romance read filled with delicious humor and wit. A female H.E.LLc employee takes the lead this time and brings her own brand of wickedness... or tries to. My only disappointment is the length of the book - - approx 178 pages.

Again, very different (In the same vein as Devil to Pay). Very upbeat. I liked it. Deep and insightful or mind candy? You'll have to decide. A bit of both for me.
