Church #1

The Preacher's Son

Rate this book
Bishop T.K. Wilson, popular pastor of the largest African-American church in Queens, New York, has decided to run for borough president. But his family values platform is on shaky ground, because the Wilson kids are giving in to the same temptations as any other young adults. And their parents have no idea what's going on behind closed doors. . .

As the bishop's son, Dante Wilson is treated like royalty. Personable and smart, he's expected to assume his father's position one day. The problem is, Dante wants to be a lawyer, and that's not the only secret he's keeping.

Dante's younger sister, Donna, is as sweet as they come, yet she isn't exactly the virginal princess her beloved daddy thinks she is. And thanks to her suspicious, ambitious mother, he's about to find that out--and more.

Just as the Pandora's Box of unwelcome surprises seems empty, it turns out that even Bishop Wilson has some skeletons in his closet. Now all the Wilsons will have to face their demons. . .and discover what family values are really about.

Living up to your family’s high expectations can be very hard especially when your church family expects more from you tan your original family. In the novel “The Preacher’s Son,” by Carl Weber brother and sister Dante and Donna tried to have a social life but it seemed as if the whole community was watching their every move. Especially since their father, Bishop T.K. Wilson, head of the largest African American church in Queens, New York was running for borough president.

Dante’s mother Charlene was against the new woman in her son’s life because Tanisha was from the projects, taking care of her 12-year-old brother, and her mother was a crack addict. On the other hand Dante’s younger sister Donna was hiding her secret relationship with her father’s protégé Terrance. Worst of all, Charlene and the Bishop’s troubled past catches up with them and threatens the Bishop’s chance of becoming president.

Throughout the book Dante struggles to get his mother to except his girlfriend as a new member of the family. Donna's what she thought was her "perfect relationship" takes a turn for the worst when Terrance has his own double life. And the Bishop and Charlene struggle to keep their family's personal life from the community for the sake of the election. Will Charlene accept Dante's new boo? What will Donna think of Terrance's other life? Will the Bishop win his election? What's so bad about Charlene and the Bishop's past? You'll have to read the book to find out.

I would recommend this book to readers who are afraid to tell their family about decisions they've made in their life. Also to readers who are afraid to live their life because of what others might think. Males and females both might relate to Dante's character because he has trouble trying to persuade his family to accept his new love. The moral of the story is don't judge someone because of where they come from because your past could hold secrets that could tear your "perfect life" apart.

This was a wonderful book....has that kind of drama that slowly creeps up on you! Just when you think it can't get any worse, *BOOM*!! I really enjoy reading Mr. Weber's books, as he has that way of tying in all of the different viewpoints of the characters....it's like a whole lot of people telling the story! I would love to see this one made into a movie or play. *HINT**HINT*

I saw the movie on TV but I didn't realize it when I picked up this book and started reading it.
It was about Pastor T.K. Wilson and the first lady and there two children Dante and Donna.
Dante mother wanted him to go to the Seminary, but he wanted to go to law school, and Donna was fooling around with Reverend Reynolds, and ended up pregnant, but he left going to a wedding and when he came back he came back with a wife so the wedding he went to was his own.
This is a five book series so I can't wait to read the rest of them.

Very great book. The huge lesson in this book is to never judge a book by it's cover. Also keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Excellent writing and I can't wait to start the second part of this series.

Shorty and Donna got married and are expecting. Then Dontae proposed to Tanisha who turned out to be his half sister with a drug addict that spent time in Rikers Island prison. And yeah, they got married because Dontae's mom was already preggo when she met TK and married him. So, it looks like Bishop TK and his wife, First Lady Charlene Wilson just keep adding new members to the family and to their church, First Jamaica Ministries.

A good one with characters you can relate to. I highly recommend the audible version.

Carl Weber is a good storyteller. This novel had a lot of potential but failed to live up to my expectations. One thing I noticed was it was poorly edited for being published by Kensington/Dafina. That's not entirely the writer's fault, however. The story was imaginative with a good ending that kept me intrigued. Yet the language (dialogue), sexual content, and characterizations were not well placed or presented.

This one was good! -I don't say this about too many, but I really liked this one by Carl. It became a real page turner for me just before the middle, and that's real good because I only read when I'm using public transportation. -I found time to read this at work and home!

You will enjoy this. A good read. Clean, but good.

I loved this book from the beginning to the end. He really target his characters all the way through. The mother in this book was out of this world she tired to run kids lifes and they was grown. With all the twists and turns and the church folks was off the hook, when they was in the church and out the church. This is a must read. It's worth your money.

The book was a good read. What I got from "The Preacher's Son" was there are places we can go and love that we can experience when you let the love of God seep into your heart. Because we are all subject to human error, who are we not to forgive. This certainly was a drama-filled, fast paced book that I would recommend.

I wanted to like this book, as it has an interesting premise, but if there's any redemption to be had here, I'm thinking it's not going to be convincing, because the early exposition gives us only the barest hint of personal substance in the preacher and his wife who stand in their son's office (in their church megalopolis that employs the whole family) while his married-to-a-boring-disabled-man lover crouches under his desk with her insatiable desire. The most intriguing character is the exotic dancer who I expect will bring substance into the family in the end--she is caring for a young sibling, responsibly earning money for the family, etc. But even her thoughts are most fully developed in the area of her libido. It just wasn't worth continuing, even as the "light listening" I had in mind in my first Audible purchases . . .

In this installment of the "Church" series, Carl Weber shows the church can have as much drama as the secular world,if not moreso. Bishop T.K Wilson has been the pastor of First Jamaica Ministries for decades now,and tries to emphasize family values. It becomes even more important to him when he decides to run for Queens borough president. His son Dante is expected to follow in his father's footsteps, but wants to become a lawyer. His younger sister,Donna is keeping a few secrets of her own? Will Dante tell his parents the truth? Is Donna who she says she is? Can the family stay together? Read it and find out! Definitely reading the rest of the series now!

I was entertained. I liked the narrators. I thought I was getting PG/PG 13 church, not R church. It's okay for stories like this to have detailed sexual talk but I didn't expect that to be in a book labeled christian fiction. I'm not saying Christians don't talk like this, I was caught off guard. I already purchased book two.
I don't know why people let The First Lady talk them like that, mainly Tanisha.

I'll check out the movie.

OK, Alright! No spoilers here. To quote The Gap Band "You Dropped a bomb on me baby, you dropped a bomb on me!!
I loved this book. Took me about 3 days to complete this and yes I was up past my bedtime just to get to a lull which never arrived.
This book will stay on my shelf. This is my first reading of church drama, Carl Weber has set a bar, I am waiting to see who will top it.

The first time I read this book was over ten years ago. I can see why I loved it then and I'm glad that even now it still kept me on the edge of my seat. Funny how much my vocabulary has changed since the writing of this book as well..LOL... I enjoyed the re-read and once I hit a certain point, it became such a page turner that I couldn't put it down.
