Phoenix
I am a monster, a beast born from the fiery pits of the Underworld. I am an immortal creature meant to purge the plague of humanity from the world we know. I have existed before most remember, and I shall persist long beyond the measurement of recorded time. I am fury; I am fate; I am flames.

Until her--the female whose skill as a thief rivals my own. She is clever, seductive, and cunning. But, most importantly -- she is mine.

Marisa

My life may not have been a fairytale, but a smart woman finds a way to survive in this cruel world. I may be a thief, a con artist, a fraud; but if I am unsavory it is only because I was made this way. I have carved out a nice little gig for myself--find a mark, lure them in, and take what I need before disappearing into the anonymity of the thousands who populate this city.

That is until him.

Phoenix is the most obnoxiously attractive man I have ever met. After he steals a payday right out from under my nose, we make a deal--whoever is able to steal the next item wins. I have no intention of losing, especially not when more than just money is on the line.

For some reason I’ve always said monster romances aren’t for me and yet I devoured Frost and now I’m completely obsessed with Flame so maybe….this is just who I am now?’
This was such a good mix of monster and mafia romance that I couldn’t put it down. For a wee novella the plot was excellent and didn’t feel rushed at all. And as always from Lo the spice was hot and had me fanning myself. Phoenix and Marisa were perfect together and had me cackling the whole way through. I love how strong willed Marisa was. Flames took my reading slump by the neck and said “I’ll fix this”.

ARC Read! 4.5⭐️

This was a fun read! It was more plot than spice with the mafia element, and had some good tension, but when that spice hit it hit🤌🏼 both Marisa and Phoenix were hilarious and had my laughing throughout the book. A sexy flame daddy with wings and double peens?!ABSOFUCKINLUTELY ! Whiskey flavored 💦😏 if you’re looking for your next quick monster smut that gives great sexual tension and has you laughing, THIS IS THE ONE!

I completely adore this book, it was a spectacular read that I finished in one sitting. It’s perfect for a quick, dark and spicy read in between books or to get you out of a reading slump. I love a mafia romance, but add in a hot 8 feet tall fire demon/firebird thing with 2 schlongs and I’m downright obsessed. I love a monster mmc, and he takes the whole “fated mates” business seriously because he was soo down bad from the moment he first saw her. He manipulates her, makes deals he knows she won’t win, stalks her, and will basically do anything to make her his. He’s truly a monster, inside and out, and I could not love him more. Marisa is ICONIC, and I love an FMC that matches the MMCs freak! They were absolutely perfect together, the best chaos duo and the world better watch out with them getting married and becoming partners in crime. This book also had an amazing spicy scene and I selfishly wish we had another… But overall I’m loving LO Gold’s monster series and I give this book a 4/5

Such a fun, quick, spicy read! I enjoyed the plot and the twist at the end. I wish the novella had been a little longer, since the ending felt a little rushed, and I wish there had been another spicy scene of them as a couple. Other than those things, I really enjoyed the story. I loved the Mean Girls reference. I liked that Baba showed up; it does make me want a spin-off of the witches.

🖤 Mafia Romance

I was hooked from the very beginning. This story kicks off spicy, dark, and utterly delicious.

Marissa is such a fantastic character. We get just enough of her backstory to understand her pain while fully appreciating the badass thief she's become. She's almost too clever for her own good, knows exactly how to charm the pants off people (quite literally) and carries herself with a fierce, unapologetic confidence that makes her impossible not to love.

Phoenix is an immortal fire god with wings (who can shift into the literal embodiment of a phoenix). He's completely obsessed with Marissa in the best way, fiercely possessive, and always watching. Those wings give him access to places no one else can reach, including the window of her 11-story apartment, where he leaves little...gifts to remind her that she's very much on his mind.

Together, they're an absolute force. They're exactly the kind of duo you wouldn't want to cross if you happened to be one of the city's villains, but as a reader, I was more than happy to sit back and enjoy their chemistry, banter, and Marissa's appreciation for Phoenix's Fireball-flavored...offerings.

I laughed more than a few times while reading this, and I genuinely think this is Lo's best work yet. It delivered everything I could want from a novella: great characters, humor, heat, and heart. Honestly, I would have happily read 600 pages of these two.

Thank you, @logold_author for the ARC.

My Rating: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Looking for a short, spicy monster romance that will give you actual hot flashes? 🥵 Flames by Lo Gold is it.

What to expect:

Phoenix: An immortal underworld monster with terrifying powers and... cinnamon whiskey flavored vibes. He is obsessed, unhinged, and the poster boy for the "touch her and die" trope.

Marisa: A clever con artist and thief who knows exactly how to use her charms to get what she wants. She’s wild, chaotic, and cannot keep her hands off her fiery beast.

This novella made me laugh, made me cringe in the best way, and completely turned up the heat. It’s a quick, wild ride, but definitely check the trigger warnings before diving in!

Note: Make sure you grab book one, Frost, too—it’s just as amazing.

ALL THE STARS!! LO Gold continues to wow with her Monstrously Mine series!

Phoenix was the definition of morally grey! Between his vengeance towards truly terrible people to his “mafia connections”, he definitely was no golden boy MMC, but that’s how I like my MMCs 😉 He was competent, cheeky, and passionate for his mate, AS WELL AS A SHIFTER, which makes the perfect MMC in my book!

Marisa was such a fun FMC! I loved how she was a baddie excelling in a male dominated field 😉 and she definitely had just as fiery of a spirit as Phoenix. I loved her thought processes that went into everything, showing that she was no novice in the world of thievery and conwomanery (is that a word?!). Add to this she was a curvy goddess and I absolutely fell for her!

The book definitely focused on plot, but do not let that confuse you, there were plenty of deliciously sexy moments from writing on her window with his…spend to fireball flavored fellatio.,.product THAT SHE SNOWBALLED HIM WITH!

I also really liked several of the side characters. I definitely want a Mikhael and Felicity story, as well as a Lev story! Every time I read one of LO’s books, I immediately want more!

Thank you to LO Gold for the eARC!

I don’t usually give novellas 5 stars because they’re not long enough for me to be invested but OMG…this was amazing! Monster romances aren’t usually my thing, but this was the second one I read by Lo Gold and I loved it! I love a badass FMC and that’s exactly what Marisa was. I also loved how terrifying Phoenix was but that he had such a soft spot for her (I LOVE a touch her and 💀 trope). Also, I say this for every review for one of her books but I stand by it…she writes the BEST spicy scenes. You NEED to add this to your TBR if you’re a fan of dark/monster romances!

This has got to be my favorite. A monster shifter with double peens 🍆🍆 that taste like whaat??… say less.

Phoenix was hot! Marisa was hot! The spice, even hotter! & the plot:spice ratio was fantastic! For being only 100, I was highly impressed with the amount of story telling LO was able to do in this. Honestly such a fun & short monster mafia dark romance that will have you laughing and biting your lip 👄

I absolutely DEVOURED this book! Who doesn't love a Mafia MMC who is not only an ancient monster but also has a FLAVORED surprise?! He's honestly everything I could ask for and more. Everything Lo writes is perfection and this one was no different. Their banter, spice and relationship was so good! When it was over I was surprised, because I flew through it so quickly. I was hooked from the beginning and laughing the entire time. This man is definitely one of my favorite MMCs.

This novella was exactly what I needed. Flames by Lo Gold is a little monster romance in the best possible way. She does monster romance so well (honestly, Frost was the book that got me into the genre in the first place) and Flames absolutely did not disappoint.

It’s fast-paced, addictive, a little chaotic, and packed with that perfect mix of monster romance and mafia vibes. If you’re looking for a quick unhinged read that’s spicy, entertaining, and impossible to put down, then this is the book you need!

As with Frost, man this was a wild ride but I expect nothing less with LO and these monster romances haha. It was hot, spicy and everything you need in a monster romance. Oh did I forget to mention he's also in the MAFIA!? Yep. Instantly wanted to read. Phoenix was an even better MMC to me and I loved the banter between him and Marisa. Then of course being fated mates, the possessiveness was chefs kiss and I loved them both together so much. He'll literally burn down the world for her. I didn't really anticipate the twist and I loved that! Going back to the spice as well, man oh man. I mean, this man has FIREBALL FLAVORED c*m. I had so much fun reading this spicy novella. Can't wait until Bones which will release next year!

Lo Gold has became an instant favorite of mine. She does her monster stories so well and the spice is HOT HOT HOT! Flames is a Monster Mafia Novella. it was a really fun read, very fast paced. Our FMC is a spit fire and I really loved her character. The premise of the story was so good I could totally see it be made into a movie. I don’t want to give anything away, but you should check this novella out if you like Mafia mixed with your romance, oh and double peens!

I seriously read this novella in like an hour and a half, just like Frost I didn’t want to put it down. Idk what Lo Gold puts in these books but I can never get enough. The spice was DELICIOUS when it was present, but this is def a more plot forward story! I’m so very excited to see which monster is next, and I’ll be patiently waiting to devour once again! To quote this delightful and chaotic novella, my thought while reading this arc was, “Down girl, we have a job to do.”
L.O. Good once again had me immediately invested. This was a fast-paced mafia romance that was filled with heart and spice. I love it when the possessive MMC is so down bad for their FMC, that it leads to some questionable choices. It also had some hilarious moments that really solidified my love for unhinged monster romances. If that’s your vibe too, you should definitely read this when it’s released on June 2nd.

📝Cliff Notes Review-
Flames was everything I wanted from a monster romance and more. Funny, spicy, chaotic, packed with possessive fated-mate energy, and featuring one of my favourite monster MMCs in a long time. Phoenix was gloriously obsessed, Marisa matched his chaotic energy perfectly, and their banter and chemistry had me hooked from start to finish. Add in Slavic folklore, paranormal mystery, mafia vibes, and Lo Gold’s addictive writing style, and I devoured this in one sitting. If you love possessive monsters, fierce FMCs, humour, and spice, this one is an absolute must-read.

🌍 𝕎𝕠𝕣𝕝𝕕 𝕓𝕦𝕚𝕝𝕕𝕚𝕟𝕘, 𝕨𝕣𝕚𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕡𝕒𝕔𝕚𝕟𝕘:
Flames was exactly the kind of book I needed. It was funny, ridiculously spicy, completely chaotic, and somehow managed to make an ancient possessive firebird one of my new favourite monster book boyfriends.

I love monster romance anyway, but I wasn’t expecting the Firebird inspiration to be as unique as it was. Mixing Slavic folklore with paranormal romance and a touch of mafia chaos created something that felt refreshingly different.

The humour completely landed for me. The sarcasm, banter and chaotic energy running through the entire book had me laughing far more than I expected. Lo Gold has a writing style that feels effortless to read, balancing dark humour, tension and romance in a way that kept me flying through the pages. I finished this in one sitting without even realising how much time had passed.

The chemistry between the two main characters is incredible. The slow build into complete obsession, the constant tension, the possessiveness, the witty back-and-forth… it all worked for me. The spice was absolutely fantastic too, perfectly matching the over-the-top energy of the story without ever feeling like it overshadowed everything else.

Despite being a shorter book, there was enough plot to keep me invested beyond the romance. The blend of supernatural elements, mafia influence and fated mates kept things moving quickly, and I never once felt bored. The only small issue I had was occasionally mixing up some of the side characters, simply because there wasn’t a huge amount of time to get to know everyone individually.

This has easily become one of my favourite monster romance novellas, and I already know I’ll be reading more from Lo Gold.

🧝‍♂️ ℂ𝕙𝕒𝕣𝕒𝕔𝕥𝕖𝕣𝕤:
Marisa was such a fun heroine. She’s confident, unapologetic, curvy, and refuses to let Phoenix intimidate her, no matter how powerful he is. I love female main characters who can genuinely match the MMC’s energy instead of simply reacting to it, and Marisa absolutely held her own. Their relationship worked because neither of them ever backed down, which made every interaction feel like controlled chaos in the best possible way.

I did find myself wishing we’d learned a little more about Marisa’s past. There are hints that there’s more to her history than we’re shown, and I would have happily spent longer exploring her character. That said, considering this is a novella, I understand why the focus stayed firmly on the romance and overall plot.

Phoenix isn’t your typical monster MMC. He’s ancient, powerful, possessive, completely obsessed with his mate, and embraces every ounce of that obsession without apology. From the moment he notices Marisa, there is absolutely no going back, and watching him spiral into full possessive monster mode was ridiculously entertaining.

🪧𝔽𝕚𝕟𝕒𝕝 𝕥𝕙𝕠𝕦𝕘𝕙𝕥𝕤:
Overall, Flames was hilarious, addictive, wildly entertaining and exactly the kind of unapologetically unhinged monster romance I love. If you’re looking for a quick read packed with humour, possessive monsters, fated mates, paranormal chaos, and an FMC who refuses to be overshadowed, I can’t recommend this enough.

⭐️⭐️
I managed to finish it but it was rubbish. I won't keep a physical copy and won't recommend it, but  it's a shame as the plot could have made a good book in another author's hands

⭐️⭐️.5
It was OK. I wish I didn't start this one as it didn't do it for me as I struggled to read it. It had an interesting premise that fell flat but I had to see what happened in the end.

⭐️⭐️⭐️
I don't regret reading it, and I will read the next one, but this one did have a few flaws. [These could be repetitive writing, gaps or plot holes, better character growth or world building, areas needing more detail]
Generally, the book lacked depth and became confusing. The plot resonated with me even though it annoyed me on the whole.

⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
I'm glad I read it. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to the right people, but I wanted more! Sadly, it's easily forgettable with a few issues I just couldn't overlook/get past.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Good book! I loved it, but... I needed more! I really did enjoy it, but it had a few parts that needed more detail or added history/background or lore. But that's because the story or characters were memorable, and the plot was strong with brilliant twists. I would re-read if I needed to catch up for the next book and would recommend.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Great book! I truly wish the story had been thought about more, or the author had been given more time as this book is so close to brilliance! I will likely read again and will definitely be recommending it to all!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
WOW! Absolutely amazing book! Well written with great characters and a plot so memorable that it will stay with me. I will definitely read this again, I will be recommending it and sharing it with the whole world! Also- I NEED A PHYSICAL COPY!

🔥⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🔥
This is my God level tier. The book must be perfectly memorable. Even after reading 50+ more books, I will remember character names and emotions along with the plot. If there is a special edition, then I need to own it! If there is a conversation on books- I'm talking about this!

 SPICE SCALE:
🌶️– segsual language and a little on-page action

🌶️🌶️– a lot of segsual language and some on-page open door action, may be occurring a couple of times

🌶️🌶️🌶️– a lot of explicit action and dirty talk, occurring frequently with 2/3 lurvers

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ – super graphic and explicit, occurring 4 or more times, can be more grey and taboo themed.

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ – Kinks and Fet!shism, explicit and super graphic. It is likely to be tushy play, toys, playrooms, and more dark / taboo fantasies and realities.

Monster romance is a hit or miss for me. This one was just okay. It was spicy and hilarious! The Slavic folklore is really what intrigued me!

Marissa was incredibly clever and badass! I wanted more of her backstory, but I understand it’s a novella. It’s always a pleasure reading a plus size woman who knows her worth!

Phoenix also clever, funny, and possessive! He’s a shapeshifter who can transform into a literal phoenix. He sees Marisa by accident, his watching after that was definitely not.

Together they were a force to reckon with! This book was quick, with just enough uniqueness. Even though there was more plot than spicy, it was interesting. Though, I for some reason kept getting the side characters confused for each other.

First of all, a huge thank you to the author for the ARC and the opportunity to read this story early!

I also have to admit that monster romances aren't usually my go-to genre, but there's something about this author's writing that makes me want to devour every single book she releases. The way she crafts her characters, the razor-sharp dialogue, and especially the absolutely wicked sarcasm woven throughout the story make it impossible to put down. She has a unique voice that fits this genre perfectly, balancing dark humor, chaos, tension, and emotion in a way that completely captivates me. Even when I'm stepping outside my usual comfort zone as a reader, I know I'm in good hands whenever I pick up one of her books.

I freaking loved this book! I'm an absolute sucker for a good enemies-to-lovers romance, especially when it comes with a strong, fearless FMC packed with personality, and Marisa was all that and then some. She walks into every scene like she owns the damn place, armed with confidence, attitude, and just the right amount of unhinged chaos. I was obsessed with her from chapter one.

Phoenix was equally irresistible. An ancient, powerful, possessive monster who was completely gone for his mate from the very first moment he saw her. I loved everything about their dynamic—the constant banter, the tension, the power struggles, and the absolute insanity they drag each other through before finally accepting what they mean to one another. They're the kind of chaotic power couple you admire from a distance because getting caught in their crossfire would be a terrible life choice.

This novella was ridiculously addictive, and I devoured it in a single sitting. It's the perfect read if you're looking for something quick, dark, intense, and wildly entertaining. The blend of mafia romance and supernatural elements worked incredibly well, and the monstrous MMC only made it better. I'm already a huge fan of fated mates stories, but Phoenix takes that obsession to a whole new level.

What truly made this story stand out, though, was Marisa. She never loses her edge, never backs down, and never lets Phoenix overshadow her. She meets him head-on every single time and proves over and over again why she's the perfect match for him. I love when an FMC can match the MMC's chaotic energy instead of being consumed by it, and these two are the definition of that dynamic.

Their chemistry is absolutely electric, the darker and more intense moments are incredibly well written, and the story constantly leaves you wanting more. Honestly, I could have easily read a few hundred more pages about these two wreaking havoc together.

A dark, addictive, personality-packed read with unforgettable characters. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves paranormal romance, possessive monsters, fated mates, and fierce heroines who know exactly who they are and aren't afraid to own it.

After reading Flames, I can confidently say that LO Gold knows exactly how to deliver a fun, addictive monster romance that keeps you hooked from beginning to end. This is the second book in the Monstrously Mine series, but it can be enjoyed as a quick standalone while still giving readers a deeper look into this fascinating monster-filled world.

What I loved most about this story was the balance between danger, romance, and pure entertainment. The hero is everything I want in a monster romance MMC—powerful, possessive, fiercely protective, and completely gone for his woman. Beneath all that intimidating monster energy is a character who loves with absolute devotion, and I couldn't get enough of him.

The chemistry between the main characters is immediate and intense. Since this is a novella, the relationship develops quickly, but it never felt rushed for the type of story it was trying to tell. Instead, it felt like diving headfirst into a fiery romance that burns bright from the very first page.

LO Gold also continues to prove how creative she is when it comes to monster romance. The monster elements weren't simply added for aesthetics—they felt like an important part of the story and the characters themselves. Fans of the genre will definitely appreciate that.

The spice? Absolutely delivers. The scenes were steamy, passionate, and exactly what I hoped for when picking up a monster romance. Combined with the protective hero, the danger surrounding the characters, and the emotional moments woven throughout the story, it made for a very satisfying read.

Tropes You'll Find:
🔥 Monster x Mortal
🔥 Fated Mates
🔥 Possessive MMC
🔥 Touch Her and Die
🔥 Protective Hero
🔥 Fast-Paced Romance
🔥 Mafia Elements
🔥 High Spice
🔥 Forced Proximity

Overall,Flames was a quick, entertaining, and incredibly enjoyable read. If you're looking for a spicy monster romance with an obsessed hero, strong chemistry, and enough action to keep the pages turning, this one is definitely worth adding to your TBR.

Listen, I think it’s kismet that Phoenix came into my life…did I exclusively consume fireball in my 20s? Yes. Do I happen to have a tattoo of his namesake? Yes, the feathered version at least 🤣 Does that also mean I’m ready for his true monstrous form to come turn up the heat and swoop in to save me at a minor inconvenience? Also, yes. I’m chaotic and would fully embrace the “Little Spark” nickname. Thank you for reading my delusions 🤣

Phoenix is the immortal embodiment of fury, fate and flames. Normally, he can keep his monster at bay…until her. She’s a rival thief he can’t stop thinking about, and he and his beast agree that she belongs to him.

Marisa has always found a way to survive in a world that has been cruel to her. She’s used to finding a mark, luring them in and taking what she needs before disappearing…until him. Crossing paths with Phoenix, the most infuriatingly attractive man she’s ever met, ends with him stealing a payday from under her nose. Now? They make a bet that the best thief wins, and Marisa has no intention of losing.

I don’t know how you can read this and not fall for Phoenix! He tastes like Fireball, is packing double the fun, will scorch your enemies and those who harm others, and has a quick wit to keep you on your toes. Marisa gave as good as she got and was not one to back down, which I loved! The sexual tension was palpable and when the spark ignited? Whew!

He is fire. He is fury. He is flames. And he is most certainly mine.

Listen Lo could get me to read her grocery list, but if she self a monster romance I’m snatching it up.

“Look, was writing ‘MINE’ on her window in my cum a bit possessive? Possibly. But, I’m a fucking monster, what do you expect?”

Flames was no exception, I devoured it in one sitting bc ummm a phoenix shifter that tastes 😏 like Fireball whiskey?! Do I even need to elaborate…I didn’t think so! I loved that Marisa was so feisty, because a strong FMC in a genre that usually paints them fragile makes me FERALLLL. The chemistry between her & Phoenix is simply off the charts. Let’s just say if you give me a morally black monster and pair it with ‘he’s only soft for her’, you will have me locked in. I swear Lo just knows exactly what elements to add each time she gives us a monster.

“You smell absolutely delectable, moya pŭtěnĭcĭ. Like spun sugar…I cannot wait to devour you.”

This was an unhinged, chaotic & fast paced novella that made me wish it was longer. If you love a monster romance don’t sleep on this one. Run and add it to your TBR now, you won’t regret it.

“Strong women stand up, not just for themselves, but for other women who need them.”

Flames by Lo Gold was EVERYTHING I wanted in a monster romance and more. Honestly, the second I saw “monster romance + mafia vibes + fated mates” I already knew this book had me in a chokehold.

Phoenix is the perfect morally black MMC — possessive, dangerous, ancient, completely feral, and obsessed with Marisa in the best possible way. The “she is mine” energy throughout this book?? Absolutely immaculate. Lo Gold somehow made him terrifying, seductive, and weirdly lovable all at once.

And Marisa was SUCH a refreshing FMC. She isn’t helpless or naive — she’s smart, chaotic, witty, and fully capable of matching Phoenix’s energy. Their dynamic was one of my favourite parts of the book because it never felt one-sided. They challenge each other constantly, and the chemistry between them was unreal from start to finish.

The tension in this book was honestly insane. Every interaction felt charged with danger, flirting, and obsession in the best way possible. I loved the mix of monster romance and mafia elements because it made the whole story feel so addictive and unique.

Also this trope list deserves appreciation:
🔥 Monster romance
🔥 Fated mates
🔥 Mafia vibes
🔥 Morally black MMC
🔥 Kickass FMC
🔥 Touch her and perish
🔥 Obsession
🔥 Dangerous bargains
🔥 Forced proximity vibes
🔥 Delicious tension

This was such a fun, spicy, fast-paced read and I genuinely had the best time with it. Phoenix and Marisa completely consumed my attention from beginning to end. If you love chaotic chemistry, possessive monster MMCs, and strong FMCs who fight back, I highly recommend picking this one up.

Lo Gold absolutely nailed this one for me

Flames was crazy and I totally devoured it! Marisa is a thief and con woman, who crosses paths with Phoenix, an ancient firebird monster tied to the mafia, while they both are trying to steal the same target. What starts as a rivalry and a bet between two stubborn thieves turns into insanity with their heists, possessive mate energy, crazy tension, and some of the best monster smut I've ever read!

Phoenix was insane and I mean that lovingly. This man saw Marisa once and immediately went into full “mine” mode. He stalks her, rigs bets she can’t win, manipulates situations to keep her close, and spends the entire book completely feral for her. The man actually wrote “MINE” on her window with his joy juice. If school was still in session, I would wave my 6-foot red flag for him and still be completely obsessed with him! Marisa was his perfect match which made this so fun to read. She was witty, sharp, chaotic, funny, and never let him overpower her personality. They really felt like two disasters finding each other and immediately deciding to become worse together.

Like all LO Gold books, the spice was absolutely unhinged. There were double peens, wings, whiskey flavored cum, and a monster dildo scene which were all so freaking hot! Underneath all that, there was still this sweet idea of finally finding someone who feels safe enough to let your guard down around, and that really hit home for me.

This was chaotic, funny, spicy, and ridiculously entertaining. It is exactly the kind of monster romance that fixes a reading slump! If you've got a bit of time for a quick and spicy read, you want to grab this one!

Flames absolutely devoured me. This book felt like striking a match in a room already filled with gasoline.

Phoenix is the kind of MMC that walks onto the page and immediately owns the atmosphere. Immortal, possessive, dangerous, and completely feral for Marisa? Say less. Every line from his POV carried this ancient predator energy that made the tension feel razor sharp. “She is mine” could’ve been cringe in another book, but here it landed like a curse carved into stone.

And Marisa? I loved that she wasn’t some helpless FMC waiting to be saved. She’s a thief, a con artist, clever enough to challenge a literal monster, and their dynamic turns into this intoxicating game of cat-and-cat because neither of them is prey. The chemistry between them crackles like live wires dipped in gasoline. Every interaction felt like a dare.

The atmosphere deserves its own standing ovation too. The fire imagery, the danger, the obsession, the seductive chaos woven through every chapter… it felt cinematic in the best way. Like smoke curling off tarot cards at 2 a.m. while the world burns outside the window.

If you love:

* obsessive paranormal romance
* morally black MMCs
* powerful FMCs who fight back
* dangerous bargains
* “touch her and perish” energy
* tension so thick it could start its own wildfire

…then this book is pure molten gold.

Phoenix didn’t just fall in love. He consumed. And honestly? I enjoyed every second of the destruction.
