Evelyn Connolly never expected to be a princess, until an unknown assassin murdered the king of Elemental Magic, and her father inherited the throne.

Now, Evelyn is dragged along to secure a marriage between her older sister and the prince of the neighboring kingdom. But unsolved murders in the city and threats against both royal families destroy any hope of a fairy tale ending. Evelyn must uncover the truth before the next victims are her own family.

Complicating her plans are three fae males with their own secrets. First is Leo, a royal guard who steals Evelyn’s heart with his sweet words. Next is Damien, a soldier and Leo’s best friend, who is ruthlessly protective of Evelyn. Last is Haydn, a high-ranking diplomat who offers Evelyn anything her heart desires… for a price.

In a realm of grand illusions and grander deceptions, Evelyn must decide who she can trust with her heart and the lives of everyone she loves.

ARC review:
Okay wow, what a debut novel! This book had me from the beginning, and I had so many emotions through out it. I was happy, mad, sad, kicking my legs with excitement from things the MMC’s said. The love triangle was written well, I loved how sassy/bratty (in a good way) Evelyn was. I have a favorite MMC, but the other two kept switching places for me. I can’t wait for book 2!!

Thank you so much to author Aimee Lavigne for an ARC for an honest review!

This book hooked me from the beginning and never let go. It’s very fast paced, but the world building is woven in so well you don’t ever feel lost. The two primary magic systems (that we see firsthand, I have a feeling we will explore others in the following books) are elemental and perceptual, which I found to be an interesting contrast and I loved reading about the world in which this book took place. Let’s talk about our characters though - I’m so attached to them, I can’t even explain. Evelyn is fiery (literally) and strong, but also kind of a chaotic mess in her own way and I love her for it. We essentially have a love square going on, and the three MMCs could not be more different from one another. I won’t say which one I’d pick to avoid any spoilers, but I PROMISE you will never have a chance to be bored with this book. I completely inhaled it and I can’t wait until the next one is out to see where it all goes next. If you like romantasy at all, this is the book for you.

I have a hard time reading and understanding fantasy books but Aimee Lavigne wrote this so beautifully, so easy to digest and comprehend. Evelyn, our fmc, was so strong, confident, brilliant, and felt everything so deeply. There are 3 mmc’s but Damien has my whole entire heart and he deserves everything life can give him i love him so much 😭
I really cannot explain how much i devoured this story. I had to physically cover the lower half of my pages to avoid reading ahead during intense moments. I had to put my book down to avoid throwing it across the room. This book makes you FEEL everything they feel in the best and worst way.
This is book 1 of 5, and i will be anxiously waiting for the rest of the series!

This was MESSYYYY and I loved every second of it. The drama and storyline were absolutely there. The TENSION between Evy and… multiple people 👀 had me hooked the entire time. Every time I thought I knew where the story was going, something happened and it completely shifted in another direction.

And that ending?! NOT what I expected at all. I’m actually distraught learning this is a FIVE book series because now I have to wait for the rest 😭

Thank you so much for the opportunity to ARC read this book ❤️
I was all in from reading the bio and it was even better than I expected it to be. The characters are brilliant and each personality draws you further into the world that’s been created, I couldn’t put it down.
If I could give more stars I would.

I have no words. I just finished reading A Vision of Flame by Aimee Lavigne, the first installment of her romantasy Elements & Illusions series that releases June 2nd. Let me start by saying that this went NOTHING like how I expected. At first I thought it was giving ACOTAR vibes, but after fully reading and finishing the book I realized that it was…quite different (in the best way possible). I was on the edge of my seat and fully invested in the entire book, and I never got bored or felt like it was slow. I loved the way the worldbuilding was scattered throughout the book, making it that much easier to focus on the characters and plot rather than trying to differentiate who is from where. All characters in this book have their own unique personalities, which is very refreshing and allows you to connect with them even more. Our FMC, Evelyn, is such a fun, strong main character, but she also is very real. She makes mistakes, learns and grows, and ultimately is very easy to fall in love with. As for our MMCs (plural feels right), that one you are going to have to read to find out about because I don’t even have WORDS after that ending. If you are a fan of ACOTAR -loving the aspects of different courts and fae- but want something very different from other fantasy books, I highly recommend this one. It’s really hard to find books to compare it to because of how unique it is, but that is one of the things I love most about it. If you are in a reading slump or looking for your next engaging romantasy, PLEASE pick up this one!! The twists, the plot, the banter, and the utter shock throughout the entire book is so so worth it. The need for the second book is going to drive me crazy, but until then I’ll look forward to a hardcopy release to annotate and other readers to connect with on their thoughts!

Thank you so much Aimee Lavigne for this eARC. It was absolutely amazing and as a writer, you are so talented. I look forward to the continuation of this series and more books in the future! Congratulations!

First of all, I am still screaming about the ending. When I first picked this up, I assumed it would be generally in the same ballpark as ACOTAR. And while I think ACOTAR fans will also enjoy A Vision of Flame, it's also quite different.

After reading the first couple of chapters, the book was a little more whimsical than I expected. Princess Evelyn is travelling to a neighboring magical land so her older sister can be courted by the local prince. Cool beans. BUT NO. I was lulled into a false sense of security because the first few chapters were cute. Things escalate, and then they escalate again, and then they forego the escalator entirely and grab a jetpack shoot up the stakes even higher. Some of the plot points were easy to see coming. (I'm looking at you, Secret Identity Trope.) But that made it all the more surprising when some other plot twist sucker punched me.

Without getting too deep into the story and any spoilers, the plot develops around a love triangle between our FMC, Evelyn, and a few magic-wielding men. There's Leo, who is sweet but comes with some complications. There's Damien, who is snarky but loyal. And there's Haydn, who is kind of the bad boy but gets away with his BS because he's handsome. I really liked the characters, and the interplay between our FMC and her various suitors was one of the highlights, especially when the plot let me have time to breathe.

My main complaint about the book can also be one of its strengths. Evelyn sometimes makes really bad choices. Seagulls drunk off McDonalds dumpster juices make better choices. But the choices also make sense in context. The reader can usually see a little further ahead and know that what Evelyn is doing is not going to end well, but her bad ideas pretty much always made sense at the time. And seeing that she's calculating the risks wrong also makes it more tense to read, because you just know that this One Neat Trick to fix all her problems is going to blow up in her face instead. She's exasperating, but you can't help but root for her.

Highly recommended. Five stars.

I need more! This book hooked me like a drug. From the very first chapter, I was completely under its spell, and now that I’ve finished, I’m practically vibrating with the need to know what happens next.

The world-building is absolutely top-tier. The contrast between the elemental magic and the perceptual illusions created a gripping story. It’s rare to find a romantasy that balances such high-stakes political intrigue with magic systems that feel this fresh and visceral.

The tension in this book—both the "will-they-won't-they" sexual heat and the raw emotional friction—shook me to my core.

Evelyn: She is such a relatable, chaotic mess. Watching her navigate the sudden weight of the crown while she discovered her full potential was a highlight.

Leo & Damien: The dynamic between these two and Evelyn is electric. The sweet words from Leo versus the ruthlessly protective nature of Damien kept me constantly torn. Honestly? I’m still holding out hope for a little three-way action in the future. The chemistry is just too explosive to ignore.

Haydn: And can we talk about Haydn? I needed even more of his brand of "dirty." He absolutely swept me away, and I found myself rooting for him the whole damn time. There’s just something about that bad boy energy that makes the danger so much more enticing.

The plot twists just kept coming, but the ending... it absolutely rocked me. I’ll be honest, I felt a sting of disappointment initially, mostly because I did not see it coming and I had grown so attached to the specific brand of danger and desire the story was building. However, like all truly great stories, things change and evolve. I have faith that this series will only get better with every word, every line, and every chapter.

My Final Verdict? If you love a spicy dark romantasy with a "love square" that keeps you guessing, put this on your TBR immediately. I’m already counting down the days until book two!

Oh my goodness!! This a god-tier book and such an epic start to what I think will be an amazing series. I was completely speechless with how the ending of this book panned out! I am still in shock by this ending but in love with it so much, it couldn’t have been more perfect. Every time I thought nothing else could happening in this action pack and love drama filled plot, something else was added that elevated the book for me even more. Everything about this plot was so well thought out and just getting to experience the plot come together for impressive and mind-blowing ending is something I will never forget.

The FMC is fierce, passionate vixen that really comes into her own in this book and I obsessed with who she becomes. She is in a love square in this book and I love that throughout this book I was completely for each of them at different times in this book. It was the ultimate love triangle/square where I truely didn’t know who I want her to pick for the majority of the book. I do have a favorite now but you have to read the book for me to tell you that! You the one sweeps her off her feet right away. Then the one that is mysterious, morally grey, and possessive. Finally have the ever present, always there for her, and protective option.

I love every element of this book from the forced proximity to the elemental magic. The love triangle/square was brilliantly done and was made even better by the banter, yearning, and hidden identity. The FMC is so powerful in this book and she has lots of men in her life but she doesn’t need a man! The twist and turn of this book are next level and I throughly enjoyed every moment of it. This book is definitely going down as one of my favorite of the year and is currently my favorite so far this year! I can not wait to see where this series is going 🤗

Thank you to the author for this ARC (and getting it a bit early!)😁

3.5/4 stars⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I wasn't sure what to expect going into this. It sure wasn't what I read 😂 I like Evelyn. I think she's a fiesty, independent fmc who takes nobody's shit! I was getting slightly frustrated when she was in that love triangle (square?) With Hadyn, Leo, and Damien. Like, girl. I get it, but c'mon! You were pining after one and using the others as rebounds in my opinion. I think she was a little immature in some instances.

The little bit of spice that was in the book was definitely spicing 🌶

I knew who Leo was the moment he stalked Evelyn to the beach that first night and found it kinda comical how Evelyn had no clue and just barely kept missing the prince whenever he was around.

While I enjoyed the story because it was light and not heavy on world building, it felt....long. It could'vebeen shorted, i feel. And almost like the plot got a little lost in the whole love triangle/square whatever it was. One moment our fmc is in love with Leo. The next she's noticing how attractive his best friend is. The next she's jumping into bed with a man she hardly knows because she thinks she could be happy with him after finding out Leo lied to her.

The whole point of the book was soldiers were going missing and coming up dead. Leo's brother was murdered. Then the king was murdered. There was foul play. Hadyn ended up the betrayer. But it kept getting lost behind the whirlwind of Evelyn's love life and not being able to make up her mind.

I am curious to see where the rest of this series goes. And I kinda hope Leo forgives Evelyn, even if i was yelling at him through my kindle for being too overprotective and disappearing all the time

**ARC READER**

I had the pleasure and honor of doing an eARC read of A Vision of Flame by Aimee Lavigne (Releasing 6/2/2026) and OH MY GOD!!

The way this book sucked me in and held my entire existence hostage should be studied.

Our story follows Evelyn Connolly; a young woman that was thrust into the life of being a princess after the death of their kingdoms royal family and her Father inherited the throne. We travel with her, her sister Hannah, and their father King Tristan to Gyron to meet the family of Hannah’s hopeful betrothed.

The journey is anything but that of a fairy tale. Elemental and Illusion magic is wrapped up in a love triangle and danger within the kingdom. Evelyn finds herself torn between three fae men: Leo, a royal guard that finds his way to her heart easily with his sweet words and kind demeanor. Damien, a soldier and Leo’s best friend, who will viciously protect Evelyn against anything. And lastly, Haydn. After a mysterious meeting in a dark bar, he’s learned to be a High-Ranking and powerful diplomat. He offers Evelyn anything she could ever want…but it would come at a price.

Amidst all of this, someone is picking off the royal families one by one. While trying to figure out who is behind the massacres, they must also determine the why…and fast. Doing so in a land of both illusions and deceptions will prove very tricky for our fiery FMC.

It’s hard to know who can be trusted and who to believe. Everyone isn’t who they appear to be, and things are only going to get worse if they can’t stop whoever is behind everything. Who will make it out alive?

I read this book so fast, that my heart broke when it was over. Thankfully it’s the FIRST of this series…now i have to figure out life until we all return to this world of magic and mystery.

I genuinely do not even know where to begin with this book.

From the moment I first saw it, I knew I needed to read it, and after being lucky enough to receive an ARC from Aimee Lavigne, I can confidently say this story completely consumed me. I devoured it.

What makes this book stand out from so many others I’ve read is how deeply human it feels. Characters in books make mistakes all the time, but this story lets you truly feel those mistakes. You hear the inner turmoil, the regret, the fear, the longing, the conflict. The characters aren’t perfect, and honestly… that’s what made me love them even more. Their choices felt raw and real, even when they hurt.

Evelyn’s journey pulled me in immediately, and every relationship in this book brought something different to the story. The tension, the secrets, the emotional weight, the romance, the danger… it all blended together perfectly. I found myself attached to every character in one way or another, and I don’t want to spoil anything, but that ending absolutely wrecked me.

Part of me suspected pieces of what was coming, but knowing didn’t make it hurt any less.

I laughed, I cried, I swooned, I stressed, and yes… I absolutely lusted after certain characters.

This book is simply beautifully written. If someone had told me this was a debut novel — the author’s first published book and the beginning of a series — I never would have believed them. It was genuinely impressive from beginning to end.

And now comes the worst part… waiting for book two.

It’s going to be agonizing, but after this ending? I already know it’ll be worth it.

🌶️🌶️🌶️/5

This book really had me in a chokehold apparently. I started reading in the early afternoon and by the time I finished I looked up and it was night. I thought the magic system in this world was so interesting! Elemental magic is always cool, but sensory magic was new to me! Basing magic powers around the senses was really unique and I thought it added a lot to the story. Evelyn, our FMC, was never raised to be a princess, so she sure doesn't act like one. She hates court politics and playing nice, and even when she was making decisions that made me want to smash my head into a wall, she still felt super real. She's still very naive about how people act around her as a princess, but she's getting there. Alexander, one of our MMCs (not my favorite one 😒), is a prince in need of a princess to marry. He cares about duty, but also cares about following his heart, and he'll have to choose which one to follow sooner rather than later. Damien, our other MMC (and my sweet precious baby), is Alexander's best friend and Captain of the guard. He's sarcastic, loyal, and just a decent person (he's playfully mean with the FMC but actually nice to her and other women 😱). Our third and final MMC is Haydn, a mysterious man from a neighboring land whose devastating good looks and sharp tongue threaten to throw Evelyn into a tailspin. I haven't been this invested in who the FMC is going to pick since I read The Selection series when I was 13. There were so many twists and turns in this book, at some point I didn't even know which way was up or down. I really loved this book and its characters (read: Damien) and I absolutely cannot wait for the rest of the series!

ARC Review:

Ladies & gentlemen Aimee MF’n Lavigne has entered the chat. I devoureddddddd this. OMG. This definitely leaned more to the romance side of romantasy. I feel like this potentially is going to be a you’re obsessed or you’re frustrated but the people watcher in me, the part that should have been a psychologist was living her besttttt life reading this. It was like gossip girls but not really but like that juicy. It’s so funny bc despite everyone having a century under their belt they are clearly in their early to late twenties.

The FMC is a straight shooter her inner monologues never annoyed me. Like when we get her sister’s story she’s probably going to annoy my nerves but Evelyn is just a girl. She did not ask to be here but she is unapologetically her and that’s why everyone either loves or hates her.

The secrets in this book just kept coming and for the most part it was easy to figure out but the way everything unfolded was the highlight.

We have 3 MMCs & it took me a while to determine who I was rooting for at one point I remember saying out loud “who am I supposed to be rooting for?” 😂 honestly I still don’t know. I do but I don’t. It’s all a risk 😂 but what I loved the most is the FMC working through the different aspects the considerations were so real life. It also made me think about how comparison is truly the thief of joy and the difference between love & lust & possessiveness & healthy relationships vs dependency.

Honestly I don’t write long reviews like this which means I need a discussion board, a book club or something so much to digest. Anywho hope you love it as much as I did!

Thank you Aimee Lavigne for sending me this e-ARC for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

A Touch of Flame, a spicy dark romantasy, is the first book in the Elements and Illusions series.

This is my first read from Aimee and I was completely blown away by this book!

Disclaimer, I’m an empath and I feel things deeply. So that being said, by the time I had reached the 50% mark, I had already cried twice. The constant drama and plot twists left me feeling gutted and distraught for these magical fae characters. I was fully invested and simply couldn’t read fast enough. This book had my jaw dropped, me gasping in shock, blushing over the spice, and on the verge of tears multiple times. A Touch of Flame needs to be on every romantasy reader’s radar.

This 600+ page book was such an easy read and is written in 3rd person with consistent 1st person inner dialogue from the FMC Evelyn. I will admit at first some of her brazen thoughts felt unnecessary and at times felt like Evelyn was trying to break the fourth wall and communicate with the reader. But her thoughts quickly grew on me and I truly admire her character and resilience.

I’m so excited to see what happens next!

Tropes: forced proximity, hidden identity, elemental magic, powerful FMC, love triangle, spicy. And who doesn’t love banter and being called a brat?

✨ARC Book Review✨

I was so impressed with this book!

Evelyn… geez, she was just responding to her current situations, and she had three men constantly throwing curveballs at her! She was bound to make someone mad eventually. I also felt like she had no filter… she was so mouthy, which I love, but it also put a target on her back 👀

I didn’t feel like her character was wrong in her choices but also that she was naive. Her relationship with her family felt so weird to me… it reminded me of The Spare. Her questioning Hannah is her right, but also… isn’t that why they’re there? To get engaged, etc.

Leo… what are you doing? I’m thinking adult communication isn’t his strong suit, which is an issue for the future king. That being said, when he finally crashed out, I thought, yup… definitely was a lot 😅

Haydn… I was curious how he was so powerful. It was like he was a spider playing with people caught in his web. His obsession with Evelyn had me confused… until it didn’t. His character needed therapy 💯😂

Damien… there were times he was defending Evelyn, and I thought, sir, you are in danger. He was also always consistent. I felt like he gave her good advice at times, and I genuinely liked his character 🥹

The ending… total, utter madness… I was captivated! I was shocked… And I seriously did not want it to end!

Review of Advanced Reader Copy received from the author.

No question this was a 5⭐️ read! I was drawn in from the beginning. It is so unlike anything I have read.

Our FMC, Evelyn, is very vocal with her opinions and makes it known that she does not want to be a princess, a role she was thrown into with the murder of the royal family in her home kingdom. She reluctantly accompanies her father and her sister to the neighboring kingdom to attempt to bethroth her sister to the prince.

Our MMC’s all prove how easy it is to fall for Evelyn even though at times she gets a little annoying. This love triangle or rather square proves Evelyn propensity for making bad decisions and her efforts to correct the bad decisions just digs a deeper hole. While we are getting lost in the love square, a series of murders and missing persons drags us into a mystery that adds another layer of intrigue.

The plot twists add to the intrigue and drag you deeper into the story. Some of the twists are predictable (Secret Identity Trope) but others will make your jaw drop. The ending is the biggest shock that you won’t see coming.

I can’t wait for the next book and highly recommend you add this to your TBR.

Where do I start? I was lucky enough to receive an arc copy of this book and I was invested from about chapter 3!

I love a messy, relatable FMC, and Aimee Lavigne delivers that and then some! The magic system is unique and interesting, while leaving plenty of mystery to piece things together for yourself as you go along. The MMCs? I couldn’t figure out which one I liked best for most of the book, and I certainly won’t spoil who my favorite was by the end, but you’ll find yourself wondering the same!

There were a few twists and turns that were predictable if you read a lot in the fantasy/romantasy genre, but in a satisfying way instead of a “how do the characters not see this coming?” way.

It’s a long book, but reads quickly. I loved that I wasn’t struggling through how to pronounce names and places, because sometimes I can get bogged down in reading names over and over! The main characters may be fae with long lifespans, but they feel like they’re in their 20s. The end of the book was a wild culmination of elements building into absolute fantasy chaos, and I live for that!

This is part Romantasy, part murder mystery, part political intrigue, and entirely addictive! I can’t way for book 2 (and beyond). BRING ME MORE OF THIS WORLD!!!

This is an ARC review.

I am speechless! What a great debut book! I could not out this book down. I started to catch on to twist, but then BAM! Another twist that I was not expecting at the end. Also… in the acknowledgments the author said this is book one of a 5 book series, and the next book is from Hannah’s pov!

This book has a love triangle and many different character depths. It also had lots of depth to the magic with there being different forms.

Evelyn: I didn’t know what to think of her at first, but she really did become one of my favorites. What a badass fire breathing dragon of a fae! I’m curious to see what happens in the rest of the series with her.

Leo: I understand his over abundance of stress and the emotion that causes, but come on my guy. Not my favorite.

Damien: what a sweet golden retriever of a man. He’s loyal, funny, protective, and just knows the right things to say.

Hadyn: morally grey? Check. Obsessive? Check. My way or the highway? Also check. I have mixed feelings at the end of the book with this one, but he still holds room in my brain.

I would highly recommend this book, especially if you’re looking for a fast-paced romantasy that you just can’t put down.

I went into this one really intrigued by the premise, and I have to say—the plot itself didn’t disappoint. The mix of court intrigue, mystery, and emerging magic made for a compelling foundation, and I was definitely curious to see how everything would unfold. There are some genuinely interesting ideas here, especially with the political tension and the protagonist’s developing abilities.

That said, the execution didn’t fully work for me. While the story had strong potential, the writing style made it difficult to stay fully immersed. The flow felt uneven at times, and certain scenes didn’t carry the emotional or narrative weight I was hoping for. I found myself more invested in what was happening than in how it was being told.

I think readers who prioritize plot-driven fantasy with multiple romantic dynamics may still find a lot to enjoy here. For me, though, the writing ultimately made it harder to connect with the story in a lasting way.

Overall, I’d give this one 2 stars—an engaging concept with plenty of promise, even if it didn’t quite come together as strongly as I’d hoped.

Evelyn should never have been a princess, but after the death of the royal family, her father became king. Now she’s navigating life as a princess and dealing with a complicated love life. At the same time, members of royal families are dying, and there’s a mystery to solve.

A Vision of Flame was a fun, relaxed read with a modern-day vibe, even though it’s not set in the present. The book had a unique style because Evelyn’s inner monologue felt like she was speaking directly to the reader, even though the book is in third person. Glimpses into her head showed her good intentions, even though she made some highly questionable choices. She was definitely a hot mess, with an “it’s complicated” relationship status. She kept things interesting, and the banter between Evelyn and Damian was my favorite part. There were also some twists and turns; some were very obvious, and some were not. There were a lot of breadcrumbs to follow, hinting at what was to come. I'm looking forward to book two. It follows Hannah, the sister’s POV, but Evelyn’s story seems far from over. I can’t wait to continue reading because this isn’t your cookie-cutter romantasy!

A Vision of Flame pulled me in with its elemental magic and layered relationship dynamics. I truly enjoyed reading this spicy adult romantasy! The worldbuilding woven throughout the story, along with the entertaining banter, made for a unique and fun ride.

I especially appreciated Evelyn as an FMC. While some of her choices made me anxious, I liked that she was strong, bold, and unapologetic. My favorite type of FMC qualities!

The love triangle (square) element was new to me, and I loved it and want more! It made the story unique and messy in the most enjoyable way.

Damien easily became my favorite MMC. I loved how protective and caring he was toward Evelyn; he was a safe space for her. Even while seemingly having feelings of his own, he still genuinely wanted what was best for Evelyn and Leo. His loyalty and friendship were some of the strongest aspects of the character writing for me.

Thank you so much to Aimee Lavigne for the opportunity to receive an ARC of her debut novel! A Vision of Flame releases June 2nd, and I’m excited to continue following these characters and see where this five-book series goes next!

I went into this book almost completely blind and WOW, what a ride.
The first thing that hooked me was the magic system. It feels fresh, unique, and layered in a way that immediately made me want to know more. The abilities, the politics, the mystery — it all pulled me in from chapter one.
But honestly? The characters are what made me stay.
Evelyn is fiery, impulsive, sneaky, and stubborn in the absolute best way. She has attitude, makes questionable choices, and somehow feels incredibly real because of it. The banter between the main trio of friends was one of my favourite parts of the book. Their chemistry felt natural and fun, which balanced the darker twists perfectly.
And just when I thought I had everything figured out, the author threw another spanner into the works.
Again.
And again.
The romance tension? Excellent. The secrets? Deliciously frustrating. The political danger and murders kept the pacing moving while the relationships gave the story heart.
This is one of those books where I kept saying “okay NOW I know what’s happening” only to be immediately proven wrong.
Five stars from me — and honestly, if Goodreads allowed six stars, I’d probably use it.

Ohhhhhh, you better strap in and buckle up because the emotional roller coaster Aimee is about to take you on will be one of the best rides in your life! The depth. The turmoil. The feral chaos at times. Gah!! Evelyn is my favorite character by far. She just feels so relatable. I loved all of the characters, and I love how well the author developed each one of their personalities and characteristics. The book is long, so you may get nervous with the page count, but let me tell you... this was a fast read because it absolutely sucks you in. You're not going to want to put it down once you start reading it. The magic system and the world building are top tier. The ending is going to leave you absolutely feral and I'm here for it! I cannot wait for the next book! *Cough cough, Aimee*. This book will make you laugh, make you cry, make you angry, and leave you wanting so much more. Like I said at the beginning, you better buckle up and enjoy the glorious ride you're about to embark on! Don't say I didn't warn you!

Well, where do I even begin...
AVOF absolutely consumed me from the very first chapter. The fae politics, political intrigue and multi-layered magical system are so well developed that it was easy to follow and felt very alive.
The characters were incredibly well rounded and relatable, flaws and all. Did I want to throw my kindle across the room at Evelyn's decision making skills? Absolutely. But she is so well written that I understood every terrible choice she made and empathised with her through all of it.
As for the MMCs, they each brought something unique to the table. Im firmly 70% Team Damien, 25% Team Haydn, and Leo can take the remaining 5%, but honestly they are all so well written that its hard not to become invested in each of them, in their own ways.
This novel is impressive, regardless of it being a debut. The world building is intricate without becoming confusing, and the magic system is thoughtful and cohesive. The politics are well planned, carefully plotted and executed beautifully.
Now I will just sit here sad and questioning life choices until book 2 comes out... and buy it when its officially released. Thanks for the ARC

Wow.....wow....wow!  This book hits in chapter 1 and doesn't stop hitting through the end!

Evelyn's story starts out as a normal girl thrown into chaos because of some mysterious murders; but quickly finds herself in a love triangle making a decision she never thought would happen to her.

"I need to leave before we test how sturdy this table is. The last thing I need is a scandal with a guard" ❤️❤️❤️

I won't slip any spoilers, but I was really rooting for Evelyn end up with her first 'bedmate', but 17 twists, turns, and switches later...things get 'steamy' against my boy.

If you loved ACOTAR, gets this on your TBR!

Tropes/Themes:
Love triangle
Lies and betrayals
Mystery murders
Fae magic

This book does have a bit of world building, but actually, its woven into the writing so well, you kind of don't realize it's happening.  Honestly, this writing is so good, I am craving more from this author!  I was hooked from page 1 and could not put this book down; its 100% bingeworthy!!

I read this book and am reviewing as an ARC reader; I am not being compensated for this review.

ARC REVIEW:

"I see your guards have already multiplied. Does the new one know he needs to be fire proof?" ... Talk about plot twist after plot twist! This book was absolutely magnificent in the most devastating way. | was in total awe of how well the story flowed and continued to capture my attention. I am completely attached and invested in these characters (Team Damien!). I was actually clutching my chest and PRAYING that none of my favorites died off. I am mentally not at all ok in the best ways possible! If you love romance, tension, SPICY SPICE, and truly not knowing what you are getting yourself into, this book is for you! @aimee a couple of things... I will be sending you my therapy bill for the emotional damage you have caused me (I think I chewed threw my lip reading this) and also I needed book two like yesterday so chop chop or I'll set your boots on fire (IYKYK)

Also petition to change the star system so that this book specifically gets 10 Stars

Lucky enough to be chosen as an arc reader for this book and received an early edition in exchange for an honest review.
❤️📚❤️📚
This book is easy to read with themes of deception, love, and manipulation. If life didn’t get in my way I could’ve easily read it in a day. The plot lines and world building are immersive without being hard to follow.

Evelyn is a furiously naive FMC who is too distracted by her complicated love triangle to see the clues right in front of her! Which become almost blatantly obvious to the reader. Making you want to scream at a fictional character who can’t hear you. You can feel her emotions come through the writing.

The leading men in this tale are equally infuriating but I can’t honestly comment on them and avoid spoilers. So! I will let you experience them on your own and make your own conclusions.

This is the author’s first book and I truly cannot wait to see what else she has in store for us. I will be impatiently awaiting book two!

Rating: 5 / 5 stars
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

I absolutely loved this book! 5/5 stars—it gave me everything I needed in a romantic fantasy.

I was completely engulfed from start to finish by the unique magic system, the heavy court intrigue, and the constant deception. The danger kept the stakes incredibly high, and the love triangles gave me so many real feelings. The romantic tension and the spice were absolutely perfect.

The final third of the book is a non-stop rollercoaster. The secrets exposed during the climax were devastating, and the massive bloodline twist at the very end completely changes the trajectory of the story. I am dying to see how the aftermath of that brutal ending plays out in the next book!

Highly recommend to anyone who loves dark romantasy, protective alphaholes, and high-stakes royal drama.

I received an ARC of A Vision Of Flame from Aimee and am so grateful. This is book 1 in the elements and illusions series.

What a great start to a series… It really felt like a unique story as someone who reads a lot of fantasy books I really enjoyed the magic systems. It felt really fresh and different, and I found the rules of this system really interesting.

Each character had their own personality but I really adored Evelyn and felt like she was such a powerful FMC. This book is filled with twists and turns, some drama, a spicy love triangle, and forced proximity, hidden identities…. Lavigne really packed this book with a little of all the good things.

My only complaint is I sometimes had a hard time keeping up. This is sorta common with heavier fantasy books for me so take it for what it is.

Looking forward to the next installment!
