EMERALD ARIA - Book 1 of the Glysterverse Saga.

In a world frozen by the Ever-Winter, singing is power.

Traven Caelhardt finds himself torn between obedience to his father and aspirations of grandeur. When an audition for the legendary Grand Chorus falls into his lap, he seizes the chance to bring honor and game to his broken family. But the Empire that celebrates music is not as benevolent as it appears. Traven steps into the heart of civilization, and begins to uncover the cost of the world’s warmth. Behind the bright lights, flying airships, city-sized furnaces, and levitating trains, singers are hoarded behind gilded stages to be exploited and erased.

As Traven unravels the mystery behind missing singers and the truth behind his brother’s disappearance, the spotlight becomes a liability. For Traven is more than talented. When fueled by emotion, his voice becomes catastrophically destructive.

And the Empire is looking for singers just like him.

Emerald Aria is a dream read for anyone who loves vocal music and the energy of performance. It captures the familiar hope, shared by so many choir members – the desire to be the next big voice – in channel is it beautifully through Traven, a compelling underdog protagonist. With nothing to lose and everything to prove, his journey is both inspiring and emotionally layered, especially as his talent reveals itself to be both a gift and a burden.

The cast of characters is well developed and engaging, adding depth to a story that already has a lot to offer. Blending mystery, suspense, strong, friendships, and multiple romantic threads, the book keeps pages turning without losing its emotional core.

The ending is truly outstanding! It lands with impact and feels like a perfect crescendo. Bringing everything together in a way that is both satisfying and memorable.

I am already looking forward to the next installment in The Glysterverse Saga.

I received an advanced copy of this title. I won’t lie—I’m always a little nervous reading a new author. There’s always a chance the book will be a slog, and getting through it will be a challenge… especially when I’ve promised a review.

This book was an exceptionally pleasant surprise.

I read a decent amount of sci-fi/fantasy, so while I wouldn’t call myself an expert, I do have a well-rounded perspective on the genre. This one stands apart from anything else I’ve read—it feels fresh and unique. It begins as a bit of a slow burn, but the world-building more than makes up for it. You get a strong sense of what the land of Talvaris is like without too much being revealed, which leaves you wanting more.

A world so deeply centered on music, sound, and song is both interesting and refreshingly new, and it’s carried beautifully throughout the story. The characters feel human, relatable, and well-written. Our main protagonist, Traven, has a good heart and exceptional talent, but he’s also naive, a bit selfish, and has a tremendous amount to learn. He grows throughout the story, though it ultimately culminates in a complete loss of control—one that leads to the downfall of more than just what he and his friends have been working toward. The supporting characters are varied and engaging, and there’s clear potential for deeper relationships and development in future installments.

My only complaint—ugh! I can’t wait to see what happens next. The story ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, and Traven’s journey is far from over. Please hurry with the next one—I have to know what happens!

Reading Emerald Aria felt like stepping into a multi-faceted life where pursuing your heart’s desire leads to self-reflection, mystery, sacrifice and heart ache. You’ll easily immerse yourself in one, or a few, characters of this story.

K.C. Spiegelberg writes with the heart of a vocalist and an eye for intrigue. His descriptions of the scenes are intensified with such vivid detail that the settings feel woven into the very soul of the story. I found myself reading it slowly – not because I was bored, but because I wanted to capture every detail of this rhythmic ‘melody’ of a book. It’s one of those stories you don’t want to end.
This first saga is one of highs and lows. Lows, giving you breathing room and highs, making your heart race. At the center of this melody is Traven, a mild yet strong vocalist who yearns to be heard while pursuing the mystery of his brother’s disappearance.

Traven uncovers a grim truth beneath the city’s opulent surface, masked by a shimmering theater and the glow of massive furnaces: most talented vocalists are treated as mere commodities – exploited and often made to vanish.

The intrigue deepens as Traven realizes his own voice is more than a tool for social status—it is a weapon capable of catastrophic destruction. This makes the mystery of his brother's disappearance even more urgent; the empire isn't just looking for singers, they are hunting for weapons like him.

Spiegelberg masterfully handles the 'inference gaps' common in the best mysteries—leaving just enough clues about the missing singers to keep you guessing. As Traven unravels the truth, the spotlight he once craved becomes a dangerous liability, forcing him to decide if the answers he seeks are worth the price of his own survival.

Traven’s journey isn’t heroic in a traditional sense, but it’s powerful. You admire and pity him at the same time. You sense the struggle between what his heart desires for himself and the ability to survive in such an unknown, powerful world. The crescendo of understanding his inner power takes control. You root for him as he chases his dream and a much needed answer, but fear for him at the same time.

Although his world is terrifying and unsettling at times, it feels dangerously close to our realities. Innocence, trust, defiance, intrigue, intertwining lives, unpredictable outcomes… it speaks to something inside everyone who’s ever had a dream or doubted themselves. It’s about listening to your heart, being afraid, unlocking your unknown secrets while forging ahead. Knowing that being alive – really alive – means choosing to be persistent, cautious and brave all at once.

I’ll conclude with the fact that you don’t need to understand or appreciate the vocal world to fully appreciate this exciting story. It’s a book that you don’t want to put down. You sense the struggle between Traven’s deepest desires and the brutal reality of surviving in such an unknown, powerful landscape. It’s a haunting debut that lingers long after the final note.

This is a definite keeper and look forward to the second and third books.

I found Emerald Aria to be an absolute triumph of storytelling—an immersive, emotionally charged fantasy that hooked me from the very first page and never let go. The opening alone took my breath away, blending brutal tension with a music-infused magic system that feels both original and deeply compelling.

What really stood out to me was the worldbuilding. I felt the environment was truly immersive—whether I was picturing the frozen, unforgiving landscapes or the bustling, culture-filled interiors of the Yodels. The way music is woven into every part of society didn’t feel like a gimmick at all; it felt essential, elevating the entire story into something truly unique.

The characters are where the story really shines for me. I felt deeply connected to Traven—his ambition, his doubt, and his emotional struggles all felt genuine and earned. His relationship with his father hit especially hard, grounding the story in very real human stakes even as the world itself expands. Every character felt intentional, with their own voice and motivations that kept me fully engaged.

At its core, I see this as a story about identity, sacrifice, and the pursuit of purpose—and it delivers on all fronts. As a fan of epic fantasy, I found it refreshingly innovative, but I think even newcomers could easily get pulled in by its emotional depth and accessibility.

Emerald Aria isn’t just a great read for me—it’s a standout debut, and I’m genuinely excited to see where K.C. Spiegelberg takes the story next.

Emerald Aria is a richly imagined fantasy that draws readers into the world of Thalveris with vivid detail a unique blend of a cutthroat choral arena and musical magic. The story follows Traven, a bass singer from the lowly Grendel Yodel, whose life changes when he’s given a medallion for the chance to audition for the Grand Chorus in the city of Hearthmere.

Traven begins the journey to prove to everyone, including his father, that he can succeed and earn a place in the chorus, but once in Hearthmere, he gets pulled into something far more complex. Traven discovers that the world he thought he understood is layered with hidden truth. His voice carries a rare and powerful force, setting him on a path that intertwines music, identity, and destiny. The author excels at writing distinct, well-defined personalities, making every character feel unique and developed. The ending is suprising and has you reaching for the second book that we now have to wait for!

K.C. Spiegelberg excels at immersive world-building, creating scenes that feel alive while maintaining a steady narrative pace that keeps the pages turning. The musical elements used throughout the story were fresh, quirky, and blended so well that one may not catch it the first time reading through. If you enjoy character-driven fantasy with a unique and resonant twist, this story is for you!

Thank you so much K.C. Spiegelberg for the ARC.

This book was so beautifully written. 5 things that stood out to me for this book.

1) World-building: The carefully curated world-building Spiegelberg writes in this story were beautifully articulate and I felt I was inside of the story.

2) The music: You can tell music and the parts of music are extremely important to the author. Throughout the book, I was moved by the words and “melody” he created.

3) A new type of fantasy: This book is great for fantasy readers, people who love reading, people who love music and for those readers who want to read and experience a new storyline.

4) Humor & Heart: Throughout the book, Spiegelberg uses classical language to sprinkle magic, fanfare and pomp and circumstance in this story.

5) Gives all the feels: I was chuckling, smiling, worrying and rooting for the characters. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

I got this as an advanced reader copy from the author, curious what the book would be like. Usually I struggle together through some fantasy books but Emerald Aria took me on an adventure that grabbed me from the very beginning. The use of music as a magic system intrigued me more and more as I dove into this adventure. The characters are so relatable and so well thought out that I felt like I knew each of them, and the world building and descriptions made me feel like I was walking the streets with Rolan and Traven. From Grendel Yodel to Hearthmere, I really felt like I was a part of Traven’s story, watching him grow and change also made me feel connected. Emerald Aria is an absolute masterpiece of storytelling that is easily on par with authors such as Brandon Sanderson and J.R.R Tolkien.

Equal parts intrigue and following your dreams, Emerald Aria follows Traven as he seeks his missing brother and seeks to fulfill his dreams of singing in the Grand Chorus. Author Spiegelberg uses a unique magick system in his novel, unlike anything I’ve ever read or heard of. His main character Traven learns who to trust and when it’s time to run. With unexpected duals and action sequences, Emerald Aria starts you in a frozen world with a government you’re not sure you can trust. The artwork and details are particularly striking, with musical touches and symbolism interwoven throughout the work.

I was a beta reader for Emerald Aria after seeing the Kickstarter and loving the idea. I am sure that the version that will be on shelves will be even more polished. That said, the version I got was still excellent. The concept behind the story is brilliant. The character development is great, I cared about the characters, and there were several moments that caught me completely by surprise (which is not easy to do). I highly recommend this book and I am excited to see where the story continues from here.

The richness of this story from being to end was wonderful. Bring music to life through fantasy and adventure.

Traven's only dream was to sing and sing with the Grand Chorus. This book take us with him on his journey to the city with his new friend Rowan. There he discovers he has more than a voice worth the chorus, but something more powerful within him. Join him as he begins to discover more about his self and those around him.

As I waiting patiently for the next installment in the story, I high recommend this to everyone.

Emerald Aria is an epic fantasy that is unlike anything out there. Music is power and some musicians are able to use it like magic. But the empire that rewards the best singers hunts those that can manipulate its magic.

The characters are diverse and the plot is brilliant. Stick around for the ending! It’s explosive! I cannot wait for book 2!

I never imagined singing could have powers, but K.C. Spiegelberg brings it to life with Traven. Set in a world of cold and ice, Emerald Aria is full of action, adventure, and a unique society where earning status means auditioning for the Grand Chorus. A fun fantasy read with great world-building and plenty of excitement.

I didn’t expect Emerald Aria to pull me in as fast as it did, but once I started reading I couldn’t stop. The whole frozen world felt so vivid and immersive, and the music-based magic system was one of the coolest fantasy concepts I’ve read in a while.
Traven felt very real as a main character — flawed, determined, and easy to get invested in.
This book felt cinematic in the best way, and now I’m impatiently waiting for the next one.
