Aubrey

I’m good at a lot of things.

Arguing in court, reading people, and knowing when a man is about to disappoint me. Dating, though? I’m apparently terrible at that. Somewhere between my second drink and the first red flag I can’t unsee, I start picking men apart like it’s my job. Which, oftentimes actually is.

Still, continuing to stay single has never been a problem for me . . . until it suddenly is.

When annoying workplace gossip leaves me needing to flaunt a new man, I decide the best way to get everyone off my back is to give them what they want. So I do the only sensible thing I can think of. I ask my best friend for help.

Finn has known me since we were kids. He knows my habits and exactly how fast I bolt when something feels off. He agrees to coach me through dates and teach me how to stop scaring men away.

But what he doesn’t know is that the more time we spend pretending this isn’t changing anything between us, the harder it becomes to ignore how easy being with him feels, and how impossible it is to pretend I don’t want more.

Finn

Saying yes to Aubrey was easy.

She’s my best friend and the person I trust most in a world where that isn’t easy. Helping her navigate a few dates shouldn’t be a problem. I’ve pitched in front of thousands of people during high pressure games for the Vancouver Havoc. I know how to stay calm, read a situation, and keep my head on straight when everything’s on the line.

Giving dating advice? That sounds simple enough. Except the more time I spend helping her find a boyfriend, the more the lines blur and I see what I’ve been blind to all these years.

That I don’t want to help her find the right guy.

I want to be him.

Thanks to Hannah Cowan and her team for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Finn & Aubrey's book was sooo good, it might actually be my favorite from Hannah! It's also the first childhood friends to lovers that I absolutely adored!!! It was done so well that I couldn't stop reading and finished it in one sitting.
I loved Aubrey sooo much and Finn was the perfect book boyfriend from the start.
I'm so excited for this new series and can't wait for the next book!

ARC review

Normally, (best) friends to lovers isn’t my favourite trope, but I love Hannah Cowan’s books, so I had a feeling I’d end up loving this one anyway, and I was right.

Aubrey was truly the boss bitch of boss bitches. I absolutely adored her. What a queen. She’s a strong woman with an even stronger personality. She knows exactly what she wants in every aspect of her life and goes after it (slay queenie). She’s a total powerhouse, and I loved seeing her find a man who lets her shine instead of dimming her light.

Finn? A walking green flag. I loved him so much. He sees Aubrey’s value from the start (even in friendship) and never tries to hold her back. Instead, he supports her and lets her be exactly who she is, which made their dynamic so satisfying to read.

The tension and slow burn in this book were so good. You could feel there had always been something between them, but they were both too scared to cross that line. But when they finally do… 😏😏😏

The found family aspect was also really strong in this book, which I loved. It made the story feel even richer, and it definitely has me excited to see more of these characters in the rest of the series.

I’m not going to lie, I was genuinely shocked when I saw that the next book is going to be about Brielle and Roman. But honestly? I’m here for it and I cannot wait!!

Friends to Lovers is the superior trope, and this book just proves to me why I shout that off every rooftop I can find. This was perfection. Finn and Aubrey were everything.

The way they were part of the same whole and just needed a little push to see each other clearly… 🫠🫠🫠 I about melted out of my seat.

Dare I say it, but this is my new favorite Hannah Cowan book. Hands down. This book was written like a love letter to my soul. It was everything I wanted.

Finn and Aubrey’s relationship is so honest and so special. These two at every single turn chose each other instead of running, and my heart couldn’t even recover.

Finn. The man that you are. This man was all I. The second he decided Bree was his endgame and this man did not falter not even once.

I love him.

And our tough girl. Aubrey. Ugh I adore her and her bravado and her need to make something of herself in a male dominated field. I love the hard FMCs because it means something just a little extra special when they turn soft to the right person.

This book was perfect. This team is going to be my entire personality and I absolutely want to live here forever .

for friends to lovers this was one of the better ones! no pining on either side. they both knew the other was attractive, had crushes for a short time in the past that they got over and didn’t think of each other romantically until he started helping her.

she’s a serial dater (not many going past a first date) and he had a few short term relationship

i will say the scene of her following him on his fake date was not needed 🫠

This book had so much potential! Friends to Lovers is one of my favorite troupes, especially childhood friends to lovers. But I feel like we only got surface level characters. The reason Amelia is a man hater is because of her job, doesn’t really make sense imo. I feel like their friendship was a new thing not one that was built upon decades. There was no pining or yearning . It wasn’t like there was no finally moment when they kissed. Also the whole Spencer of it all felt very high school. It was highly unprofessional. I understand it needs conflict towards the end, but the fact that it was over her not choosing her boyfriend because the office knows him as her friend was dumb. Then to have her use one of his teammates to go with , but change her mind at the last minute. It felt icky. I also felt like the side characters were static, the only one I was truly interested in was Asher. I feel like if the series is going to do the found family troupe, the first book has to set the other characters up for me as a reader to want to know their story.

“I’m so proud of you, Bree. And I’ll always be your biggest cheerleader.”

this story follows aubrey, who though is incredible in court and at reading people, is terrible at dating. she’s always had the worst luck with men and found red flags in each man she dates, and this wasn’t a big problem for her, until recently when unfortunate workplace gossip leads her needing to have a boyfriend. here enters finn, who is aubrey’s best friend and now supposed dating coach, he has known her since they were kids, so he’s the best option she has for teaching her how to scaring men off. however, sparks start to arise the more they pretend and help aubrey find a date, sparks that are too hard to ignore…

this was a fun read!! i enjoyed the storyline of the book, and how finn was able to pretend to be different dates aubrey has been on to see what she likes and what she didn’t, that was really fun to read!! i also really really loved all the side characters in this story and the entire baseball team, they were a really great and fun addition to book! i liked seeing aubrey be solely herself and not have to change for anyone just for love, it was really great to see a strong female lead and her personality really shone throughout the entire story!! there were some times were scenes felt a bit dragged out despite the length of the story being shorter, however overall a fun story. if you want a fast, quick-paced best friends to lovers story check this one out!

I loved every second of this book. It actually had me kicking my feet and giggling like a little school girl. It’s books like this that further prove my point of friends to lovers being superior to enemies to lovers. I can’t wait for more in this series because I’m already so invested in the side characters!

Aubrey, a lawyer and Finn, a professional baseball player. Best friends to lovers.

Aubrey and Finn were cute best friends who turned into a couple after Aubrey tried dating a few guys to find a date to a work event. Throughout the process, both Aubrey and Finn realized some jealousy when it came to other people and one another.
The conflict was a silly one but was wrapped up quickly.
This was a pretty low stress one and I enjoyed it.

This was different for Hannah but it worked out well because Finn was all the walking green flags. Aubrey and Finn’s relationship is so unique in the way that they have been friends for so long, they already knew each other so taking that final step, it was scary but so worth it.

RUTHLESS is the only way to describe our FMC but she’s also a boss b!tch so there’s that. She did not take anything from anyone and Finn just fueled the fire. This man did not let anyone talk bad about her because he knew who she really was.

These two are as close as you can get and are so scared about having an attraction to each other. Not seeing the signs that have always been there. Also, these two not realizing everyone they’ve dated has worked out because they have always been endgame.

I loved the tension building and slow burn of this book. You could tell there had always been something there but they were both too scared to act on it. But when they finally do, all bets are off.

I do love the found family in this book and the building of the books that are to come.

Thank you to Hannah Cowan for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

4.75⭐️ for Crossed Signals by Hannah Cowan

A baseball romance from Hannah Cowan? Yes please! I was itching to get my hands on this arc, and I ate it up, it was so good!

I absolutely adored Audrey and her manhater tendencies, and her ambition to succeed in her career was so great to read about and a breath of fresh air; she wasn't focused on wanting a family, but rather being a partner at her lawfirm and I loved that so much. Her interactions with Spencer had me seething, the little weasel was obviously jealous of her success and just proves why she's a manhater (as she should be).

Finn was Audrey's opposite, sweet and friendly, he brought found family vibes with his baseball team and I'm so excited to see where those vibes go with the rest of the series! The way he yearned for Audrey was simply * chef's kiss*. Best friends to lovers is a hard trope to get right in my opinion, but Hannah slayed it here; I couldn't get enough of Finn and Audrey!

This is the beginning of a fantastic series I'm sure of it, and I cannot wait to be back with these characters for Brielle and Roman's story!

Thank you to Hannah Cowan for a copy in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.

A baseball romance AND friends to lovers by Hannah Cowan? SIGN. ME. UP. IMMEDIATELY!!! ⚾️🔥

I absolutely loved Aubrey. I related to her so much….she’s a little jaded when it comes to men (honestly… valid 🤣) and she has zero problem saying exactly what she thinks. The girl radiates bad b!tch boss energy and I devoured every second of it. She’s sharp, funny, and unapologetically herself. And her co-worker can honestly just go shove it straight up his wazoo because that man had me seeing red 😡

And then there’s Finn… the complete opposite in the best possible way. This MAN!!! He’s so sweet, so caring, and the way he treats Aubrey? Swoon city. Even before he realizes it, you can tell this man is down bad for his best friend through everything he does. The little moments, the way he shows up for her, the way he talks to her….I was melting.

And when these two FINALLY decided to go for it?? GIRLS. When I tell you I screamed!!! I have never rooted harder for two people to just get together already. The tension, the chemistry, the history, I could not get enough of Finn and Aubrey!!!

I also loved the entire cast in this new series and I am so ready for Brielle and Roman’s story. I need it ASAP. (And it’s going to have one of my fav tropes 🤭🔥)

Thank you Hannah for the advanced copy to read 🫶

Baseball Pitcher x Lawyer / It’s always been them

This book was the perfect balance between all of its tropes. I think what makes it stand out from all other books is how it does the friends to lovers trope. Imagine being best friends with someone since high school and quietly loving each other separately but not knowing or wanting to cross that boundary. Fast forward to adult hood and you are still just as in love, but life is different…. And she needs a fake boyfriend. OF COURSE you’re going to offer to help her.

I love the relationship between Finn and Bree because they talk and know about so many details of their whole friendship and inevitable relationship: prom, his whole baseball career, how she manages her work/life balance. The depth of their relationship is one I haven’t read in a long time. Something that feels real and true.

Another part I enjoyed was a slow growth of the found family part of the story. As the story progressed you get to know more and more characters with growing details. You don’t have all the characters thrown at you and all their backstories. Rather you get moments of time when details emerge, which makes it feel less forced and leaves you wondering where their stories will go. It’s almost like a tree of next story line begins to grow.

I am excited to read After Hours and grateful to be on Hannah’s ARC team for the book.

I have to remind myself that he’s my best friend and that I’m not supposed to be staring at his body like I want to use it as my next favourite toy.

💚⚾️🧢⚾️💚

Fake dating a baseball player? Yes please 🙌 I absolutely loved their banter and the friends to lovers of it all.

Aubrey is a strong, successful, and independent woman but given her job is marital law she’s lost faith in men and relationships. In walks her bestie Finn who wants to help her open up her heart to happiness… but will he help her find love with a stranger or himself?

My heart ached for Aubrey & Finn. They’ve had feelings for each other for years but are afraid to ruin their lifelong friendship. Their banter was perfection and I loved their dynamic. Watching them find their happily ever after was a balm on my soul.

Like with any new series, Cowan introduced us to the Vancouver Havoc roster and I can’t wait for their stories to come next! Can’t wait for the single daddy story! Eek!

ARC REVIEW

okay hannahhh slayyyy in her baseball era 🥵
I’m so excited to start a new series by Hannah! She is one of my all time favourite authors!
I loveeddd this book! I’m a sucker for a childhood best friends to lovers book and this one nailed it! Finn and Aubrey have been friends since they were little, have always loved each other but both have been to scared to admit it.
Aubrey being the girl boss she is, (slayyy 💅) finds herself needing to get her workmates off her back about her love life, here enters Finn. Finn desires that she needs a dating coach, after going on a lot of terrible dates, he plans dates to show her what she should be looking for. Only they end up falling for each other and finally airing their feelings!
I loveeee the slow burn in this book and when they finally both realise they were meant for each other all along 🙊🥹
The yearning Finn does whilst waiting for Aubrey to figure out her feelings was like perfect book boyfriend hehe

Obsessed and can’t wait to continue the series

Thankyou Hannah for the ARC

This is book one of this new series! I really enjoyed this book, I haven’t read many friends to lovers but I really like this one. You could really feel like the relationship was supposed to happen and instead of feeling forced.

Aubrey was a great character, she struggles with men and dating, she was a man hater, but Finn, nothing about him gave her the ick. She’s strong, independent but also I wanted to strangler her at the end like come on!!!!

Finn, he’s perfect he’s a total sweetheart, he’s funny, filthy, caring, and obsessive and possessive. He really cared for Aubrey and honestly he just made me feel all gooey inside cause he was just so sweet and a great man!

The spice was minimal I would say 🌶️🌶️ over a great read, sweet and I definitely recommend

***ARC REVIEW***

What a way to kick off a new series. I loved so much about this book from the found family vibe of the baseball team to the way Finn and Aubrey’s relationship developed from friends to lovers. Watching Aubrey finally open up to him was both beautiful and heartbreaking. She’s carried so much alone, and seeing her let those walls crack was everything.

Aubrey is such a great character. She’s strong, independent, a self proclaimed manhater who can’t make dating work… except with Finn, who never once gives her the ick. And Finn was perfection. Sweet, filthy, funny, caring, obsessive in the best way. Every scene with him turned me into mush.

This book was so fun and I’m already counting down to the next one.

Thank you Hannah for the ARC 🫶🏻

Best friends-to-lovers AND black cat x golden retriever??? Yeah, I was giggling and kicking my feet immediately 😭

Aubrey is a lawyer who is absolutely DONE with dating 💀 Every man she goes out with somehow manages to wave a red flag within five business minutes, and honestly? I related to her SO hard 😭 The girl analyzes men for a living at this point.

After workplace gossip starts getting under her skin, Aubrey decides she needs a date for an upcoming gala… which leads to her asking her best friend Finn to help coach her through dating 👀

And Finn? SWEETEST MAN ALIVE.

This man has been down bad for Aubrey for YEARS without even realizing it 😭 He’s patient, supportive, protective, and literally her biggest cheerleader in every single way. Golden retriever energy EXUDING from this man constantly 🫠

Meanwhile, Aubrey is giving full black cat energy 😂 Sharp-tongued, independent, intimidating to basically everyone except Finn. I LOVED her. She was driven, hilarious, brutally honest, and so over men in general that every bad date had me cackling 😭

But what I loved most was how Finn never tried to change her. He understood her. Even when calling her out, it always came from a place of love and wanting her to stop running from things that scared her emotionally 🥹

And these two together?? PERFECT.

The chemistry was there from the start, which made the emotional connection hit even harder 🫠 The banter, the comfort, the tension building underneath everything… it felt SO natural watching them realize their feelings for each other😭

Finn especially had me SWOONING because once this man realized what he wanted? IT WAS GAME OVER 💀 He folded immediately.

I loved the found family vibes with the Havoc team. 🫶🏼Based on the glimpses I got from the players, I just know it's going to be chaotic! In the best way 😂

Is it bad to say that I kinda wanted more drama with Spencer?🫣

Overall, I really enjoyed this, and I desperately need the second book (IYKYK)

i’m still not sure what to rate this because it was a nice read but i just wasn’t really connecting to it for some reason? it’s def a good book and all while i was reading, i could def see why this one could be a fav for some and i think that it’s just a building slump in me that made me not really vibe with this one as much as i normally would :( maybe i’ll reread in the future and i could def see myself rating it higher then!

White bread ass book. I’ll still read it but like you don’t really need to. They loved each other at the beginning and they loved each other at the end truly the only difference is that they share a bed now.

This did make me want to go reread His Greatest Muse though…. Once scene of Noah Hutton and i was that’s so raven style taken back in time
