I seriously never do half stars, but this book is one of those rare cases where a 2.5 feels like the only rating that makes sense. 😭 I can’t bring myself to give it three stars because there were just too many things that didn’t work for me… but at the same time, two stars almost feels too harsh because I did enjoy parts of it. So here I am… stuck in rating limbo 🥲
One of the very first things that threw me off was the writing style. Every other word seemed to end with an apostrophe instead of a g—lookin’, stoppin’, seein’, twitchin’… I get that they’re on a ranch and the country setting is part of the atmosphere, but after a while it started pulling me out of the story more than immersing me in it 😭
and the plot...???? You’re telling me this man ends a twenty-year relationship by calling off his wedding… and then, not even two weeks later, he’s completely infatuated with someone else?? I know rebounds happen, so that part wasn’t even my issue. It was how instantly this woman somehow became the one who changed everything about him. Then Calvin tries giving off this mysterious “don’t ask me about my past” energy… only to suddenly open up without much hesitation?? And don’t even get me started on the ex-fiancée somehow becoming supportive, rooting for them, and basically becoming best friends with Calvin. I simply could not suspend my disbelief that far 💀😭
That being said… somewhere along the way the book definitely got stronger.
Brody absolutely carried this story for me. 🥹 The quiet ways he took care of Calvin, the patience he had with her, the way showing up for her seemed to come so naturally… those were easily my favorite parts. There were multiple moments where I found myself thinking he deserved better 😭 He was just so genuinely kind, dependable, and willing to rearrange his entire day if it meant making hers a little easier
For a good chunk of the book though, the plot felt like it wasn’t really moving. It was mostly scene after scene without much tension, and a lot of the spice started feeling more like filler than something pushing the story forward. It wasn’t badly written by any means... it just felt excessive, and I kept wishing we’d get back to something happening. 🤷🏼♀️ Once the stakes finally started picking up toward the end, I found myself much more invested, and I honestly wish we’d gotten more of that energy throughout the whole book.
Overall, this one just didn’t completely click with me. I might continue the series because I did like where things ended up, and there were enough moments that kept me reading. I’m also not writing this author off completely. I think I’m just on the fence after this one. 🤷🏼♀️ maybe another book will be the one that wins me over.

Ah, this small-town cowboy romance offered a genuinely sweet escape with plenty of spice.
It kicks off with Brody calling off a long-term relationship right before the wedding, shaking up the local gossip mill. Then he shares a scorching one-night stand with Calvin, a fiercely independent woman who conveniently turns up as the new ranch hand the next morning. Watching Brody play the ultimate golden retriever to her absolute black cat energy was an absolute joy, especially as he consistently showed up for her and became a true safe space.
While the emotional core and the well-balanced steam had won me over, a few specific elements kept it from reaching higher rating. The pacing moved at lightning speed without giving the relationship enough room to breathe, the dialogue quirks in the writing style took quite a bit of getting used to, and the conflicts (especially, regarding the resolution of Brody’s past relationship) resolved a little too neatly to feel entirely earned. Those minor bumps prevented the story from achieving full brilliance.
Even with those storytelling hurdles, the tender journey of two mid-thirties characters working through past baggage made it a thoroughly enjoyable read. I was charmed by the loyal side characters who brought the ranch to life and fully invested in the heartwarming conclusion.
If you love a cozy cowboy setting with a solid balance of heat and emotional growth, you will find plenty to appreciate here.

I get so excited when a book sucks me in and I can’t move because I just want to keep reading.
That’s how I feel with Tell No Lies.
I started and Brody and Calvin immediately were all I wanted to consume. Unfortunately I did have to work (boooo) or I would have consumed this in one day.
I LOVE a dominant, independent, black cat FMC. A woman who has seen things, who becomes fierce and feisty but deep down is looking for her match. And boy does she find it…literally her Boy Scout 🤭
These two were so beautiful to watch. (IKIK it’s a book) but they just circle each other so perfectly and it was something I didn’t want to end. Brody found the love he deserved and was able to give back to someone. Calvin found someone who made her feel home, who calmed the storms inside.
I need the whole series now because the characters, the setting, it was everything you want with a small town romance and I need all their stories!

July 9, 2026DNF "Tell No Lies" by Lauren Kiser @ 23%. It takes a lot for me to DNF a book these days, but I really did not like this one. These characters are supposed to be in their 30s, but they act like children and feel unrealistic on top of it. I hated Brody (MMC). The way he acted at the beginning of the book pretty much soured my entire perception of him going forward, and it was hard to get over. His reasoning for breaking things off with Sassy, his former best friend of 20 years and ex-fiancé of 10 years, was fine, I guess, if a little dramatic... he wanted her to have the ability to be with his best friend, Rhett, who she was clearly in love with, though she wouldn't admit it until Brody let let her go (>>>!!??!O!(**!&^&!>?????). Ok, but he also says "we had never been right for each other,"??????????????? so WHY SPEND A FREAKING DECADE WITH HER????? LET HER BE WITH SOMEONE SHE LOVES????? HAVE A CONVERSATION?????!!!!!!!!!?? He also says his wounds are self-inflicted and doesn't know if he's going to be okay, then IMMEDIATELY proceeds to start a physical-but-possibly-more relationship with Calvin (FMC), the attractive, mean-but-he-loves-it stranger who is new to town. PARDON??????????????? That doesn't *sound* like someone who is feeling sad about his choice, now does it?!?!?! It *sounds* like he was looking for a way out, but wasn't man enough to, like I said, HAVE A CONVERSATION, until his dad died, until a crapload of people spent a crapload of money on a wedding they likely couldn't get back since it was supposed to happen within the week, inconveniencing an entire town who helped work on the wedding, his family, her family, etc!!!!!! I am FLABBERGASTED???? Is this me thinking about it a little too hard? Maybe, and I fully admit that! But GOD, did it rub me the wrong way. On top of this, Sassy and Calvin *immediately* become buddy-buddy with each other after one conversation!!?? I don't buy it, and I'm not going to entertain it. I am willing to bet none of these people have been to therapy.... *checks ebook for the word "therapy,"* YEP, I WAS RIGHT, 0 INSTANCES FOUND!!! Sorry to the author about this, but this one was not for me.

📚 Would I Recommend?: Yes
💬 tldr review: Wild chemistry, emotional healing, and clench-your-thighs spice made this impossible to put down. Brody's golden retriever devotion to Calvin's fiercely guarded heart had me hooked from beginning to end.
Thoughts:
This book drops you right into the drama from page one! Brody has recently called off his wedding with the only woman he's ever loved, and the town is not too happy about it. A hot one-night stand in chapter three? And then that hot one-night stand showing up as the newest ranch hand the very next morning? I was already hooked and ready for the tension.
Calvin is the black cat to end all black cats. She's a dominant force and the complete opposite of Brody's golden retriever energy. But as we get deeper into the story, we learn why she is the way she is. Her feisty attitude and inability to stay in one place are all forms of self-preservation. Honestly, as a woman and a decent human being, I couldn't blame her one bit.
One of my favorite parts was watching Calvin slowly soften around Brody. Every time she let down a piece of her armor, it showed just how deeply she cared for him, even when her mind was telling her to run. I also loved seeing her relationships with Rhett and Sassy grow. And let's not forget Cat! It almost felt like I could see Calvin finally putting down roots after spending more than half her life without any.
And Brody. Talk about a man who was down bad for the woman who walked into a bar and turned his entire life upside down. No matter how many times Calvin tried to push him away, he kept showing up for her. He became the steady, dependable presence she didn't even realize she'd been missing.
I can't write a review without talking about the spice. It was absolutely clench-your-thighs level...and there was plenty of it. But it never overshadowed the story. It was balanced perfectly with the emotional depth and character development, which is a hard balance to pull off.
I was completely invested from beginning to end and already can't wait for my next visit to Wild Acres Ranch!

Brody and Calvin are the definition of opposites attract.
Tell No lies was not what I expected, but it was so good. I loved this book. It took me by surprise and I have no regrets. Brody is a rodeo/cowboy. He loves his family and is loyalty to a fault. He’s trying to find himself and what he wants after the end of a long time relationship. He’s kind considerate and did the right thing for his best friend’s even though it’s a mess. Brody wasn’t looking for someone new, but a bar drink and a spontaneous night later his future is changing.
Calvin is a tough don’t take no nonsense type of gal. She never stays in one place too long but she has the feeling she needs to come home. Calvin is a driven, smart, hard-working,beautiful woman. Calvin is tough on the surface because she’s had to be deep down she’s kind and sweet.
With Calvin and Brody being total opposites, there’s an attraction that is so undeniable between these two. Not only is their attraction undeniable but there’s a tethered pull between the two of them that they didn’t know was possible and what they both needed.
There was so much going on in this story. There was mystery, romance, banter, small town vibes, a rodeo, best friends triangle, sexy cowboys, new girl in town, hidden secrets, each other’s first, loss/ grief, past abuse, found family, new beginnings, and yes I know that’s a lot and quite the mixture but it totally worked!!!!
I giggled, was shook, blushed, surprised at times, cheered for their happy ending, was so intrigued, this book was everything.
Also, there was so much spice and some scenes in this book that are going to make you blush. You’re gonna be so shook, but it’s so good. These two were so hot. I honestly didn’t see it coming, but oh my goodness Boy Scout and Viper we’re just too good wink wink….
There are some flashbacks that could be a little triggering for some, keep that in mind, but it shapes the story and makes Brody and Calvin’s story so special. this book is going to be the book that took me by surprise this year and is like five stars and beyond. I can’t wait for more books to follow because there are a certain pair of best friends that I need to see what happens like I’m dying to know how their story ends. also, there’s a brother that I need to know what’s going on with him He was quite mysterious, but I’m curious to see exactly why. fingers crossed There’s more books to come.

The joys of living in a small town where everyone knows everyone's business. He is beginning to wonder if something is wrong with him, when he hits it off with an unfamiliar face at the local bar. What starts as a one night stand quickly turns complicated as she ends up being the newest ranch hand at the ranch he is associated with. He is fully aware of the walls she has up, but is still determined to break through and possibly win her heart.
Calvin is a person who doesn’t put down roots. A black cat through and through, she is independent, lives life by her own rules, and has built many walls to keep herself from getting hurt. When her one night stand turns up at the ranch she is now working at, she does everything she can to keep him at a distance. But Brody is not easily thwarted, always saying the right thing and truly making her feel cared about. I loved Calvin throughout this whole story! Her character growth is amazing throughout the story. Her reasons for being closed off are valid and may have brought me to tears at times.
As Lauren continues to write books, it is easy to feel the amount of heart and passion she puts into each one. As many of her stories are part of interconnected series, she always ensures there is continuity throughout the entire series. I cannot wait for the rest of this series, especially if they all include cowboy MMCs who are head over heels for the FMC, willing to protect her at all costs. I couldn’t put Brody and Calvin down and definitely lost sleep over this book. Lauren you will always be a must read author for me and you keep reminding me why with all of your books!

This is the first book I’ve read from Lauren and now I need to go back and binge her other small towns!!
Lauren does incorporate difficult themes for both the MC's so please read the content warnings before following their journey.
I felt these characters had so many sides to them I don’t even know where to start. Definitely a black cat (Viper) x golden retriever (Boy Scout), but at the same time there were situations where Brody would step up to Calvin and I loved that too. Definitely a high heat 🥵🥵🥵 relationship that started off as a ONS and escapism at the local watering hole. I really wish I was a bit more eloquent in my writing, because I felt a lot of nuance from these two. I also want to mention that these characters are in their mid thirties which is sometimes rare in Romance, so if you're looking for MC's that have pasts and years behind them - take a chance on these two!
While both very centered in the ranch/rodeo upbringing, Calvin had a tough exterior from years of self sufficiency and having to prove herself as capable as a ranch hand. She didn't take flack from anyone, but the unsaid conversations between her and Brody really showed the vulnerable side to her and the trauma she lived though. Brody was the softer personality, but still had his own sadness to navigate after having his father pass away and then realizing his only relationship wasn't true love.
The intimacy pushed the envelope and the plot of this story along. It was really a way for Calvin and Brody to understand each other and act on how they were feeling even if they couldn't say it at the time. Although not explicitly BDSM, there are definitely elements of power dynamics and kink between these two. Calvin uses her sexuality in many ways (defense mechanism, escape, distraction) so if you are looking for a cowboy slow burn, save this one for later.
I didn't quite know how to feel about Rhett and Sassy in the end, but I'm sure that Lauren will enlighten us on those two and all their dancing around each other in the future. Also Luke!! I need to know... He's got a story to tell, I'm sure of it.

Calvin was such a compelling heroine. Beneath her tough exterior is a woman shaped by years of hurt, always prepared to leave before someone else can hurt her first. Watching those carefully built walls slowly come down felt incredibly rewarding. Her relationships with Brody, Rhett, Sassy, and even Cat made it feel like she was finally discovering what it meant to belong somewhere.
The chemistry between Brody and Calvin is undeniable from the very beginning, and the spice is definitely memorable while still serving the emotional story. Their physical connection never overshadowed the character development, instead becoming another way they learned to trust each other.
While I thoroughly enjoyed the romance, a few things kept this from being a five-star read for me. The relationship developed very quickly, leaving me wishing for a little more time to fully settle into their emotional journey. I also found myself adjusting to the dialogue style early on, and some of the conflicts wrapped up a bit too neatly for my taste. Even so, those moments never took away from how invested I became in Brody and Calvin's story.
With lovable side characters, cozy ranch life, emotional healing, and a cowboy hero who defines unwavering devotion, Tell No Lies is a wonderful start to the Wild Acre Ranch series that has me excited to return for future books.

Tell No Lies was my very first Lauren Kiser book, and it definitely won't be my last. She completely won me over, and I have a feeling I've found a new favorite author.
From the very first chapter, Brody and Calvin's story throws you right into the action. Their first meeting is unforgettable, and their chemistry is immediate. They couldn't be more different—Brody is the ultimate golden retriever cowboy with the biggest heart, while Calvin is the guarded, independent black cat who's learned to rely on no one but herself. Somehow, they're exactly what the other needs.
Brody completely stole my heart. After ending a relationship that had everyone in town judging him, he carries the weight of guilt, family expectations, and heartbreak. As the truth slowly unfolds, you realize just how selfless and loyal he really is. Calvin has her own painful past and hidden scars, but watching her slowly let Brody in was one of the most beautiful parts of the story.
What I expected to be a sweet cowboy romance turned into so much more. This book is packed with mystery, small-town charm, rodeo life, found family, hidden secrets, grief, healing, friendship, new beginnings, and an unforgettable romance. Every twist kept me hooked, and I never knew what was coming next.
I laughed, blushed, gasped, and even got emotional. The banter was fantastic, the emotional moments hit hard, and the romance was incredibly satisfying. And yes... the spice absolutely delivered. Let's just say Boy Scout and Viper will live rent-free in my head for a while.
While Calvin's past includes some heavier moments that may be emotional for some readers, they add so much depth to the story and make her journey with Brody even more meaningful. Together, they help each other heal in ways neither of them ever expected, making their happily ever after feel completely earned.
Tell No Lies is one of the biggest surprise reads of my year and easily earns ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ plus more from me. Tell No Lies is a fast-paced, steamy romance that pulled me in right from the opening pages. The story begins with the MMC packing up his life after ending his engagement, and I was immediately invested because his reasons for calling off the relationship felt genuinely selfless and honorable. It put me firmly in his corner from the start.
The chemistry between the leads is undeniable, and the romance develops quickly with plenty of heat. If you’re looking for an entertaining, low-angst read that doesn’t require a huge emotional investment, this one delivers.
That said, a few elements didn’t quite work for me. The resolution of the MMC’s previous long-term relationship happened so smoothly that it felt a little unrealistic. The transition from ex-fiancés to friends seemed almost effortless, and I would have liked to see more emotional complexity there.
Similarly, the new romance progressed at lightning speed and felt almost too easy given the personalities of the characters. One quote from the book perfectly captures its philosophy: “Maybe love wasn’t supposed to be hard. Maybe, when you finally found the right person, it was just supposed to be true.” While I can appreciate that sentiment, I personally wanted a bit more tension and development before the characters reached that point.
I also found the character development somewhat shallow. I never felt like I got to know the protagonists on a deeper level, though that may not be a drawback for every reader. In fact, if you’re in the mood for a steamy, engaging romance that’s light on emotional heaviness and easy to fly through, this could be exactly what you’re looking for.
Overall, Tell No Lies was an enjoyable, spicy read with an intriguing premise and plenty of momentum, even if I wished for a bit more depth and a slower-building romance.

To be completely honest, it took me a while to really get into the story, and it also took me longer than usual to finish it. There were a few reasons for that. First, I really disliked how Brody ended his previous relationship. I hate when people handle breakups that way (in general and not just in text), so the reactions he received from people around him is completely justified. Second, I initially got confused by the fmc and mmc's names, and it took me some time to get used to it but that's a "me" problem. Lastly, there were parts of the story that I found difficult to read, but after reading the author's note, everything started to make much more sense. From that point on, it was pretty much smooth sailing for me.
What I loved most was the dynamic between our main characters Brody and Calvin. They were both carrying the weight of their pasts and trying to move forward from it. I enjoyed watching them find comfort in each other. They balanced out each other so well. I also loved how Brody became Calvin's safe place while always looking out for her and vice versa.
There were a few things that didn't feel entirely realistic to me. Things progress too fast and they are also resolved just as fast. Ii wished that sometimes we can stop and linger for a while to digest what was happening in the scene. Never staying in one place for too long, she's just in town for a job & then she'll move on to the next place. They thought their hookup was just going to be a one & done, but in a small town like Larkspur, Montana they're bound to run into eachother again.
Brody & Calvin have this undeniable connection. When they meet they both have some healing to do. I don't think they expected to find that healing together. I love how Brody can read Calvin so easily. He knows what she needs & when she needs it. He gives her the space she needs without pushing her. Waiting for her to give him the right sign.
Without giving too much away, Calvin keeps walls up, but with Brody she finds those walls crumbling. It's so beautiful & heartwarming how she can open up to him so easily. & of course that's scary for someone like her.

Lauren K. captured emotions with incredible subtlety. Instead of relying on dramatic declarations, she trusted the quiet moments—a clenched jaw, a hesitant glance, comfortable silence, or the simple choice to stay. Those little details made every interaction feel genuine.
I also loved how Brody's patience carried into every part of his life. Watching him work with the horses reflected the same gentleness and steady trust he showed Calvin, and I thought that parallel was beautifully done.
The found family, the summer ranch setting, the friendships, and even the cat added so much warmth to the story, but what stayed with me most was the respect between Brody and Calvin. He never mistook her vulnerability for permission to push her boundaries. Instead, he met her exactly where she was, and that made their love feel earned.
This book had me smiling, kicking my feet, tearing up, and completely forgetting I was in a reading slump.

Lauren K. captured emotions with incredible subtlety. Instead of relying on dramatic declarations, she trusted the quiet moments—a clenched jaw, a hesitant glance, comfortable silence, or the simple choice to stay. Those little details made every interaction feel genuine.
I also loved how Brody's patience carried into every part of his life. Watching him work with the horses reflected the same gentleness and steady trust he showed Calvin, and I thought that parallel was beautifully done.
The found family, the summer ranch setting, the friendships, and even the cat added so much warmth to the story, but what stayed with me most was the respect between Brody and Calvin. He never mistook her vulnerability for permission to push her boundaries. Instead, he met her exactly where she was, and that made their love feel earned.
This book had me smiling, kicking my feet, tearing up, and completely forgetting I was in a reading slump.
If you're looking for a cowboy romance filled with emotional depth, quiet healing, and characters who choose patience over pressure, I can't recommend Tell No Lie enough.

This book is a reverse grumpy sunshine, but Calvin is more black cat than grumpy and Brody is just sunshine incarnate. I loved that the MCs were mid-thirties and still working on themselves. Working on making a life and making a home. Working on relationships. I enjoyed watching them grow and fall for each other.
And be prepared, its spicy 🌶.

3.75⭐️ I had such a good time reading this book! We start the book with immediate drama that pulls you right in. Brody called off his wedding to the only girl he's ever been with. The problem wasn't that he stopped loving her, but he loved her enough to realize he wasn’t her person. What Brody planned to be a night of sulking at the town's bar turns into a one-night stand with the mysterious stranger who’s rolled into town. And of course, Brody finds out that stranger just so happens to be the newest ranch hand at his best friend's ranch.
I really loved both Calvin and Brody. They were so perfectly giving off black cat x golden retriever energy; it was crazy lol. I was immediately captivated by Calvin; she’s truly a force to be reckoned with. She’s dominant and flirty and loves some good drama. So, walking into a ranch with tension so thick you could cut through it with a knife was like catnip to her😅 And Brody is a whole 180 from Calvin. He’s all sunshine, smiles, and kindness.
Both of them are going through things in this book and learning to grow from them. I really appreciated seeing Brody grow into himself, becoming more sure of himself, and realizing he’s enough. And I liked seeing Calvin slowly soften around Brody. It was sweet to watch her slowly let her guard down and realize this is a man she could trust. After their night together, Brody was completely hooked on Calvin and became pretty protective over our girl🤭
Our side characters were just as compelling as our main ones! I loved Rhett and Sassy; I hope we get a book about them because I am veryy interested to see how those two play out. And Luke, omg! I need to know more about him asap!

Tell No Lies is a small-town, black cat x golden retriever cowboy romance that I enjoyed overall, but it didn’t quite blow me away.
Brody has just called off his wedding after realizing his longtime fiancée is actually in love with his best friend…and the feeling is mutual. While trying to move on, he has a one night hookup with Calvin, only to discover she’s the new ranch hand at his best friend’s ranch, where he works as a farrier.
I really enjoyed the small-town cowboy setting, and the writing was easy to read and flowed well. Brody and Calvin had great chemistry, the spice was good, and I found myself rooting for their HEA. I also liked the side characters, although I did think Brody and Calvin came across a little immature at times considering their ages.
My biggest issue was the pacing. Everything happened so quickly that I never felt like the characters or their relationship had enough time to really develop. It wasn’t instalove, but it did go from “I want to f*ck you” to “you’re my person” pretty fast. I think slowing things down and letting the relationship breathe a little more would’ve made the emotional payoff stronger.
I also wasn’t completely sold on how quickly Brody and his ex-fiancée seemed to move from calling off their wedding to being perfectly fine friends. I understand what the author was going for, but it happened so smoothly that it didn’t feel entirely believable to me.
Overall, this is a fun, spicy, easy to read cowboy romance. I just think a little more depth and a little slower pacing would’ve elevated it quite a bit. Still, if you’re looking for a quick small-town romance, I think it’s worth picking up.

I felt refreshed reading this book, because usually cowboy romances can be Western-focused, but this felt more like a small town romance with cowboy elements.
From one moment to the next, this cowboy romance had me in a chokehold and forced me to feel a wide range of emotions. I was giggling, screaming, crying, screaming, and kicking my feet up in the air; all while reading the same chapter!

I loved seeing the characters grow and change throughout the book, and the cast is quite diverse. I found the FMC to be a badass bitch who was unapologetically herself, while the MMC contrasted her with his charismatic, Gen Z attitude.
Although I related to Calvin on a personal level, Brody was my favourite character. His comedic timing and reactions to things had me running to the bathroom to avoid peeing my pants from laughing. I’m really excited to see where the rest of this series goes.
I would recommend this book to cowboy smut sluts, cowboy romance lovers, spicy romance fans, Lauren Kiser fans, and those who love Elsie Silver but were looking for a little more spice.

This was my first book by Lauren Kiser and I was glad to see mental health rep. Things that were heavy were appropriately implied (not too much detail to make it too uncomfortable), grief explored, and complicated relationships ending and starting explored. I enjoyed the dynamic between Calvin (FMC) and Brody (MMC) and their ability to share about their pasts, and the unexpected and seemingly unlikely girlhood friendship between Calvin and Brody’s ex, Sassy was pleasant to see. It was surprising at times, but not completely out of the realm of possible. I’m itching to know the whole story from Sassy’s POV.
Therapist 👋 Take:
What I appreciated most about this story was how it wasn’t cleanly tied up with a bow all the time. Things get messy, sometimes you end up with the “rebound” (just ask my husband who married his-me), things don’t always go according to plan, and sometimes forgiveness looks like distance and acceptance of life without the one who hurt you. Sometimes characters I find harder to connect to challenge me to look for reasons to connect. All in all, lots of mental health rep here, lots of spice, lots of healing and growing through hard things.
If I’m honest it took me a bit to adjust to the MMCs accent being present in his thoughts, but I can appreciate the purpose. The rapid pace here had more of an insta love feel and that made it a bit more challenging to think the relationship would endure. If you enjoy small town romance with a more complex story line/character arc, you’ll enjoy this one.

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley. I couldn't get enough of the MMC! He literally was the golden retriever of all golden retrievers. How he was always so patient with the FMC and took everything at her pace and at the same time wasn't pushing to know what she was hiding or why she acted the way she did. When the FMC befriended his exfiance and both her and MMC were rooting for her to get with his best friend, that was the type of girls girl thing I want to read. There was no jealousy from either part but genuine want from them to be happy. I enjoyed how the MMC was always available for her when she was going through something like driving to her 45mins away while she was outside the assistant living facility because she wanted to see her grandad but was afraid of going in. I enjoyed them just giving in and adopting the cat that wondered to his house who he let her stay in and he kept paying for his apartment just in case she didn't want to see him or not wanted him to stay over he always kept that available for him to leave and have a place to stay. Even when her demon caught up to her and she packed her bag to leave and he got there just in time and he still said if you want to leave go but I would like you know I don't want you too. But I'll respect your decision either way.

« Tell No Lies » est une romance torride, même un peu trop parfois, dans une petite ville, dans un ranch, avec des cowboys et une cowgirl.
Il décide de rompre ses fiançailles car il n'était pas tout à fait honnête avec elle, avec lui, oui il avait ses intentions et ce qui est étrange c'est que son ex l'a tout de suite accepté. Sans doute avait-elle aussi ses raisons, qu'elle a compris.
Et puis nous avons Calvin, une femme forte qui fuit son passé et qui ne demande qu'à travailler dans ce ranch familial. Elle n'a pas froid aux yeux, mais son passé est troublant, et on saura vraiment ce qui lui est arrivé pour comprendre ce perso.
Ce qui est sur c'est que l'alchimie est là et il ne va pas ramer beaucoup pourtant et c'est en ce sens que les scènes spicy étaient aussi trop nombreuses, n'apportant pas grand chose à leur relation, sauf si c'est une question de confiance.
Cependant lorsqu'on s'interesse au passé, à ce qu'elle a vécu, in s'aperçoit qu'il y avait matière...Alors oui ça va vite, mais ils trouvent la bonne personne, et ils savent, sauf que je voulais plus.
Ceci dit cela reste une bonne romance qui traite aussi des dérives dans le sport, dans tous les sports, y compris les bull riders, les relations dérangeantes entre un entraineur et un élève, mineur.

I freaking adored this book!!
I am well and truly in my cowboy era, and I make no apologies for that!
This book starts with Brody who has just called off his wedding to his high school sweetheart. No one can figure out why he has done this. He has just lost his father, and this was supposed to be the next happy thing.
Brody is a complete Golden retriever, always easy with a laugh and a smile and a happy go lucky sort of attitude. He is also very perceptive and has worked out that his ex-fiancée is actually in love with his best friend so has removed himself from the situation (No fuss, no drama just a called off wedding).

this book was definitely not for me. the idea was great and i feel like it had a lot of potential but it unfortunately did not pan out. at all. the writing itself lacked .. everything. it felt childish, flat, fake, as if all the feelings and all of it had been generated. every single emotion was over explained. the insane amount of negatives (“it wasn’t this. it wasn’t that. but rather this”) doesn’t strengthen the writing.. it was a really really rough read. it felt like the author was trying to make up for the subpar writing by adding so much smut and it was just not for me.
the plots also did not feel realistic. although the MMC broke things off for a valid reason, you cannot convince me that his ex fiancée (who essentially got stood up) would be okay and rooting for him to have a new relationship so soon. it’s been like a DAY since she came back from the honeymoon they were supposed to go on? none of it makes sense i’m sorry
given how private the FMC is, it also didn’t really make sense for her to share her entire life story 20% in.
“i couldn’t help but L-O-L.” like you are grown!!!!!!!!!! why is this in their inner monologue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There was a lot I enjoyed about this one, and it’s very well written, but a few things left me wanting a little more. One thing this book definitely delivers on is the spice—there are plenty of steamy scenes, and a few moments definitely caught me by surprise.
For a book with several trigger warnings, I expected a bit more drama and emotional tension. Brody and his ex go from being engaged to friends pretty seamlessly, and it all felt a little too easy. When Calvin enters the picture, the chemistry between her and Brody is immediate, but I wanted more angst and yearning before their relationship moved forward. It all seemed to progress very quickly.
I also felt like the storyline surrounding Calvin’s past had a lot of potential. There was some great buildup, but the payoff didn’t quite land for me.
That said, I think the bones of a really good series are here. The setup for Sassy and Rhett’s story, along with whatever mystery Luke has going on, definitely has me intrigued. I’d absolutely pick up the next book to see where things go in the Wild Acres world.
There was a lot I enjoyed about this one, and it’s very well written, but a few things left me wanting a little more. One thing this book definitely delivers on is the spice—there are plenty of steamy scenes, and a few moments definitely caught me by surprise.
For a book with several trigger warnings, I expected a bit more drama and emotional tension. Brody and his ex go from being engaged to friends pretty seamlessly, and it all felt a little too easy. Now this one starts off with sinking you in the drama from the beginning and it had me questioning the MMC in the first chapter. Brody has called off his wedding to the only woman he’s ever loved and everyone is questioning his sanity. Then we get a one night stand in the 3rd chapter, only for her to then be the new ranch hand he runs into the next morning! The tension and chemistry was off the charts.
Calvin is a black cat, never staying in one place for too long, running from her past. She’s confident, witty and a little vicious. This is all about opposites attracting, with Brody giving off ultimate golden retriever vibes. He’s the dependable, steady presence she needs even when she tries to push him away.
There’s a lot of emotional depth, character development and healing we get to see from both characters and the spice is perfectly placed and adventurous. It just hits exactly as it should it what is a fast paced, fun and steamy read.
If you love cowboy romance, opposites attract, black cat x golden retriever energy and some delicious spice, I would definitely recommend you read this book.

This book hooked me in fast; I was interested in the story, the characters are relatable.
I love how both characters are opposites, searching for something, and we get to see their growth.
Brody loves the rodeo, his family, but is also fresh out of long term relationship. He always does the right thing until he throws caution to the wind, and this night out of his comfort zone, just might be the new chapter in his life.
Calvin is smart, driven, and takes nobodies nonsense. Still, she is running and happens to be in The BP Bar the same night as Brody. Both decide to forget their struggles with a stranger. Larkspur, Montana is not a big city, and they will run into each other again.
There is a connection, but both Calvin and Brody need time to heal. Calvin has walls that are deep and high. Can the security Brody gives her help them crumble?
I loved the small town, a little mystery, plenty of banter, cowboys, secrets, and found family. There is healing and starting over, this story has stuck with me and I am ready for more from Wild Acre Ranch.

Oh my gawwwwwwwd. I honestly just cannot stop falling in love with whatever Lauren writes. Yes…this is only my second book by the author, but I honestly am such a massive fan of the way she creates emotion in her writing.
Brody is nursing one heck of an ordeal after leaving his fiancé and having the whole town think he’s lost his darn marbles. However, there is no rhyme without reason, and Brody is navigating this with those he is closest to. Calvin meets Brody at the bar, where he is instantly infatuated with the newcomer to town and the two flirt their way to 💦🤭 Brody wasn’t expecting to see her again, but she turns up at the ranch where he works a farrier, and whilst she wants to be professional, the two cannot keep away from each other.
This book really has it all: sweetness, spice, laughter and tears. I loved Calvin; she really was such a lost soul, and her history around the ranch and why she has been a little bit of a nomad makes you want to jump into the book and give her a cuddle-not that she would let you 🤭 the woman is feisty. I loved her. I also thought she was so daring, especially with Brody’s ex haha I loved how she friended her. Their relationship was pretty special.
Brody…poor ole Brody. You understand why he broke things off with Sassy (trust me, you will be begging for her story after you read this). He was not a bad person. But, you just know Calvin is what he needs.
I really loved all the side characters, especially his brother 😮💨
