I read a couple (a few?) of Aleks' books before and they were OK, but nothing staggering. It's not the case with "Maximum Mental Health".
This book is great.

I liked it from the very beginning. Behavior is king.
There is nothing better to overcome anxiety, fear or depression than an ounce (or a ton) of action.
I loved how Aleks explained the rules of positive focus. This is a real game changer. And I appreciate, that this was explained right at the beginning. He just knows what works and what doesn't and what is 80 and what is 20 percent activity. Just those two things- action and positive attitude can revolutionize one's life.

I just couldn't find a weak spot in that book. Maybe a tad too formal tone... but not really. Such allegation is peskiness and looking for flaws at all price.

Aleks managed to maintain a perfect balance between delivering a lot of theory and addressing how to implement it. His expertise in the field of mental health is clearly visible, but at the same time I felt like talking with a friend at the coffee shop, not with an egghead in the white coat. Most of techniques he prescribes are available for and doable by any ordinary mortal.
He also has a gift for breaking things down. In the end all those exercises and tasks are easy. And that's the point. If you are depressed, every effort seems be insurmountable.
In fact, this book is not just about overcoming depression, anxiety and other mental issues. For me this book was more about maintaining mental health, than regaining it. Prevention is the best cure. By the way, I discovered why I'm in a great mental shape: I practice many of author's advice on a daily basis.

I also was impressed by the author's principle-focused approach. It's not enough to practice a tiny discipline without the bigger picture. But when you understand the principle behind your discipline it multiplies its effectiveness.

This book is down to earth. It can teach anybody, even a very depressed person, how to dig yourself out of the terrible mental hole. The ways of enhancing an individual's motivation, mood, meaning and authentic achievement were instanced in "Maximum Mental Health" in abundance. And as I've said, they are easy to implement, so you can pick among them just a few and start practicing them right away.

This book is actionable, that's its biggest advantage. I can't really imagine reading it and staying the same person.

And when Aleks started to talk about relationships and love I stopped right on my track. His words struck directly into my heart. That's a rare feat for a self-help book. If I could, I would have given this book 6 stars. Aleks Srbinoski is not only competent. He is also genuine and compassionate and this book reflects exactly those traits.

So, no matter where you are on your life journey, whether you suffer from mental illness or just want to keep your sanity in this fast pacing world of ours I recommend "Maximum Mental Health" wholeheartedly.

The author of Maximum Mental Health is an Australian life coach, hypnotherapist, and clinical psychologist. In Maximum Mental Health, he offers a collection of principals aimed at helping readers improve their motivation, mood, meaning and mastery, in the search to cure or counter anxiety and depression. “For someone who is in the ‘normal’ range and more self-improvement focused; or who is suffering from only mild to moderate range issues, the application of these principles alone” might be enough to satisfy. For others, the book might provide some sense of direction in which to progress.

Hypnosis is nicely explained in this volume, though the book is not about hypnosis. Mental skills are convincingly described. The difference between thought, feeling and action is wisely presented. The way online life and advertising feed into feelings of depression is disturbingly persuasive. And there’s plenty of nicely practical advice. The author offers intriguing downloadable content (which I did not avail myself of) to help readers progress further, including “mindfulness recordings to listen to.”

From optimism, to pessimism, to following the latest diet plan, with or without spirituality, with or without hypnosis, Maximum Mental Health is user-friendly, reader-friendly, and an interesting read. My favorite bit? The final “values rankings” exercise, for the way it makes readers really think about what matters.

“Is it easier to feel calmer in a quiet temple or on a busy highway? You might say, ‘Well, yeah, the temple, but the problem is I seem to live on a busy highway.”
Then the question becomes: ‘How do you make your highway more temple like?’”
Aleks Srbinoski in Maximum Mental Health, p. 17

What a concept. At its essence, it’s about our maximum mental health. We live on a metaphorical highway, a highway that is busy and loud and chaotic and often out of our realm of control. It can be stress-inducing, and it can weigh us down physically, emotionally, and behaviorally (what we do and do not do). As much as we’d sometimes prefer to live calmly in a quiet temple, we’re on the highway. While we can’t change that completely, we can take charge of the highway that is our life. We can indeed make our highway temple-like and achieve maximum mental health.

Making our loud, busy, chaotic highway into a place that’s calm, serene, peaceful and temple-like seems daunting and difficult. Enter Aleks George Srbinoski. Srbinoski is a psychologist and an expert in success, happiness, and mental health and well-being. He has authored numerous books on these topics and has just released his most recent self-help book: Maximum Mental Health: Overcome Depression, Anxiety, and other Mental Illnesses with 20 Principles for Happier and Healthy Living.

Maximum Mental Health is designed to help people find true happiness, enjoyment, and life-satisfaction. In his well-written and very readable book, Srbinoski presents concepts and information in a way that helps readers enhance their well-being and life satisfaction rather than simply managing struggles and challenges.
This book is informative and allows the reader to fully understand mental health concepts. The author is a psychologist and thus has a wealth of professional information, and he shares his information with us in a conversational, user-friendly manner. He succeeds in leaving out technical jargon while remaining respectful of the reader (he neither talks down nor attempts to “dumb down” the content).

Maximum Mental Health contains excellent examples and metaphors, such at the temple-and-highway question above, to make the information very real. The book is vivid, creative, and logical. Just the act of reading it brings joy and happiness!

This powerful self-help book offers simple and easy yet meaningful and effective exercises for applying the info. Each section contains exercises that can be done both immediately and in the long-term to allow people to apply practical techniques to increase their happiness and achieve lasting mental health. What I find effective and refreshing is that the exercises, suggestions, and tips are positive. Rather than “don’t do this” concepts are presented as “discover and do these positive things.” (Such as taking your highway and making it more temple-like)

Aleks Srbinoski’s Maximum Mental Health helps people take charge of their own lives. It helps people achieve mental health, well-being, and happiness and to live life with intention.

As a nationally certified counselor (US), HealthyPlace Anxiety-Schmanxiety columnist, mental health speaker, person living on both sides of the proverbial couch, student and practitioner of positive psychology, and author of award-winning mental-illness/mental-health-themed novels, I highly recommend Maximum Mental Health. This is a user-friendly book that is relevant, valid, and helpful in enhancing mental health and well-being.
