Being a lone wolf could be Riley’s greatest strength, or her greatest weakness...
After surviving her psychotic ex-boyfriend’s quest for revenge, Riley Cray was ready to settle back into her quiet life and fade into obscurity. The Shepherd of the City, Alexei Cordova, however, has other plans for the lone werewolf. Someone is murdering supernaturals under the master vampire’s protection, and he wants Riley to figure out why.
Relying on the help of her friends and her paltry knowledge of the supernatural world, can Riley discover who the murderer is before Denver is consumed by a war between vampires and werewolves?
Hello and welcome to my little corner here on Goodreads. I’m A.J. Colby, author of the Riley Cray series.
I’ve always been an avid reader, thanks to my parents, who encouraged both my older brothers and I to read from an early age. I first decided I wanted to be an author at the age of ten when I read Interview With The Vampire and fell in love with Fantasy in general, and Urban Fantasy in particular. From that moment on I was hooked on all things vampires, werewolves, witches and all the other various beasties of lore and fantasy.
I’m originally from England (you know, where the history comes from), but moved to the States as a teenager, so I guess I’m technically now more American than British. Don’t tell anyone, okay? I’ve been living in Colorado since I moved stateside and though I miss the rain and rolling hills of England, nothing compares to the sheer awesomeness of the Rockies (the mountains, not the crappy baseball team).
I consider any day I can write, whether it’s ten words or 2,000 a good day, and am constantly surrounded by support from my wicked awesome friends and family, horde of fuzzy minions of doom (adorable fluffy kitties), and my ever supportive, wonderfully nerdy, and creative fiance, Mr. Awesome Sauce.
When I'm not writing or working my day job I like to collect books, sewing machines, cat hair, and neurosis.
Riley Cray is a snarky, funny, caffeine and junk food addicted werewolf. Her sarcasm is a joy and she not afraid to get herself into trouble to do what needs to be done. And she is, often, in trouble. This was a joy to read and a great follow up to the first book in the series. I can't wait to read the next. AJ Colby puts her humor into her writing and it shows up in threads throughout her story.
Colby's writing is superb, as are her characters. Her command of deep POV, while it may not mean much from a technical perspective to non-authors, makes it easy to connect with Riley and everything she goes through. Well done!
Again, I love the storyline and the premise of Riley. However, she has a smart mouth with nothing to back her up. She cannot fight and she is more or less a coward. She tries to get a backbone once in a while, consisting of using her werewolf claws and scratching,(just like you would see in a "girl fight"). Maybe, I am being to harsh, but I just get annoyed when someone is all bite and no bark, and still is touted as a "warrior." I loved meeting Juliet and as usual I loved Alyssa. Marvin makes a great appearance. I missed Darius. Even after my complaints, I would still recommend the book because it is still a good story.
