Safety was never meant to feel like captivity. Desire was never meant to feel like surrender.
After a devastating pandemic leaves humanity weakened, a human student receives an impossible entry into the world’s most elite vampire institution. It’s her chance to escape the crumbling city, to secure a future when so few remain — but coexistence is carefully curated, and protection comes with rules no one explains until it’s too late.
Vampires govern quietly from behind institutions, policy, and power. As their control tightens and humans lose the ability to choose freely, she finds herself caught between forces that claim to want her safe — and a system that no longer recognises consent.
But in the shadows of political machination, something else is stirring. Attraction that shouldn’t exist. Desire that blurs the lines between captor and companion. A connection that makes her question whether she’s fighting for freedom — or fighting what she actually wants.
As violence becomes sanctioned and power consolidates, she must navigate a world where morality is grey, autonomy is fragile, and the choice you’re given may not be real.
A dark, slow-burn dystopian romance where protection is dangerous, desire is forbidden, and surrender might be the only way to survive. Book one of a series.
The Accord by Nyx Hunt is a dystopian dark slow burn vampire romance with a morally grey MMC! So i was excited when my booksprout app started working again to read it as the review is overdue :(
Thanks to Nyx & booksprout for this. I rate it 3.5 - rounded to 4 for reviewing. It does have triggers (obviously) 😝. This book contains dark themes that may not be suitable for all readers, including: • Violence • Blood imagery • Coercive power dynamics • Sexual content • Emotional manipulation • Trauma-related themes Reader discretion is advised.

I also really loved the dedication "For those who endure" 🌹❤️
This book is written in 3rd person, which i hoped meant it will have alot detailing. You are brought right in at chapter 1, and from the first page you're dragged into a mystery and asking questions. You are introduced instantly to the FMC Emery, and already asking questions about why shes doing what shes doing if there's no reason for it. Did someone hurt her, is someone stalking her? So many questions already.
The talk of districts has me totally invision the hunger games 👀😂.. this line about Jake (who i was hoping was the MMC or a decent major side character) had me cackle "He was kind-hearted, dangerously distracting to look at and had, on more occasions than she cared to admit, made her laugh so hard she may have peed a little." We've all been there and wont ever admit it lol.
I really liked the FMC Emery, she had an amazing mind, she was super quick witted, and omg was she sassy!!! I loved that for her. She did put me through emotions, at times I'd actually be concerned for her safety, then I'd feel a wave of anxiety of concern for her. 90% of the time I was like "ladyyyy just ignore it, keep your head down, keep going, dont stop moving👀😂" i really wanted to find out how things end for her, she was for sure my favourite. The MMC Dane, was abit of an ass, but he was 1000% her ass. I didnt trust him at all, he was giving me the wtf you doing Vibes, it felt/feels like he had alterier motives with regards to Emery, but what i did enjoy was the touch her and ☠️ as he is completely head over heels (apparently) for Emery, but i dont fully trust it. He's hiding something and I hope for Emery's sake/story it has nothing to do with hurting her. Overall, I feel like The Accord has the potential to be an amazing series but there was a few things that stopped it being a 5 ⭐️ for me, 1. It really ramped up within the last maybe 100 pages, where it sets the stage for book 2 with regards to political intrigue, which was really interesting making you want to know more so needing book 2. 2. The vampire lore, or the lack of. We know they can walk in the sun, they can eat Human food and thats it. Also what of the new rules they had? Like we need details? That are the only things ever addressed about them. What about everything else vampire? So i do hope book 2 has more vampire lore & details. 3. Was the Sickness that took the humans. We never really get an indepth explanation, it felt to me like it was just put in there as a wimp as an explanation to humans dying? This was a disappointing one like the vampires, as I would have enjoyed hearing more details about the hows whys and what it is.
I’d thank to thank the author for letting me be an ARC reader for this book. I enjoyed it so much and loved the dark vibe of it. The characters and the story were so well written and I loved that there was a strong and smart FMC and the MMC was so intriguing. I can’t wait to read the next one! The ending left me wanting more🔥

The Accord is the 1st book in The Accord Series by Nyx Hunt. The Accord is a dark, slow-burn dystopian romance where protection is dangerous, desire is forbidden, and surrender might be the only way to survive.
The Accord honestly has potential to be a fantastic series. From the very beginning of this book, I found myself enthralled. This book has this constant dark and mysterious vibe. The one thing that keeps coming back and niggles at the back of my mind, I can’t help but wonder about the characters true motivations and whether they can be trusted them or not?
The introduction to this book was stunningly strong to this dark world that leaves you with more questions than answers and for me that’s not a bad thing. In the final 100 pages I found the political intrigue really started to soar and get interesting and it really sets everything up for the next book and now I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book.
I completely adore our FMC Emerey. With her amazingly quick wit, her sass, there were times that I found myself gasping and other times I found myself being proud and terrified for her. There were times I was like Emery, keep you’re head down, this isn’t the time or place to stand out. I am curious and really invested in finding out how Emery’s story play’s out and who she’s going to end up offending next. More than anything though I really want to see how Emery’s story is going to play out. More than anything I loved the friend group Emery pulls around her and how authentic, real, and relatable they all felt.
Our MMC Dane, he’s complicated. He really hasn’t done anything per say. And you can tell that Dane clearly loves and is deeply in love with Emery and he’s completely devoted to her. The trouble is I’m having trouble shaking this suspicious feeling about him. I honestly don’t know that he is being truthful, I have this feeling that he’s hiding something and that his motivations aren’t what they appear to be.
One of the things that I found both interesting and disappointing in this book was the sickness that has destroyed the human world. The very sickness that had allowed the vampiric world to rise from the shadows.
I found it interesting as it in a way reminded me of covid and I enjoy reading about various illnesses and the toll they take on the human population and what happens to the human world. I was disappointed in the fact that we didn’t get more details on the sickness that had spread in the human world and what had caused it.
The other issue I had is that Nyx didn’t clearly give us all the new rules the vampires had. We know in The Accord they can walk in the sun, eat real food, but that’s it, all the other normal vampire characteristics were never addressed. Stuff like age, reproduction, how they are harmed, we get none of that. I do hope in the next book Nyx gives us answers to those burning questions.
Despite the minor issues I had with this first book of Nyx’s new series I honestly did come away from this book truly invested in these characters, eager to see what happens next, ready to see where these characters go next, and I am so ready for the next installment of this new and exciting vampire series.
3.6 ⭐️ (Thank you to the author for my advanced ARC copy of this book.)
I believe this is a debut novel for this author, and she definitely proves she’s got some writing chops. 👏🩸
This dystopian tale is set in the fictional world of Sireva, where humans and vampires supposedly live together (sort of) in harmony (kind of). Equal coexistence is the official narrative, anyway. 😬 In reality, the vamps are gaslighting the humans.
Years earlier, a sickness wiped out a huge portion of the human population. The FMC, Emery, is in her mid-twenties and has no biological family left. She works two jobs and is barely scraping by. She's also attending college, but it's slow going as she lacks the time or the funds. But she's surviving. Barely scraping by is just normal life for most humans left after the sickness.
Then, completely out of nowhere and right in the middle of a school term, Emery receives a scholarship offer to attend an elite vampire university. Of course she accepts because realistically, this is her one shot at improving her situation.
And that’s where she meets Dane Calder. 🖤 A vampire. An heir. And the son of the Provost.
Emery’s plan is simple: keep her head down, finish school, and avoid attention at all costs. Unfortunately, that plan goes to hell almost immediately. 😂 While she never intentionally draws attention to herself, she also refuses to be a doormat, and her sharp tongue tends to get her noticed in ways she absolutely did not want.
This is very much a slow-burn story — both with the romance and the overall plot progression. The world-building is somewhat limited for now, and I’m really hoping the author expands on it in future books. But what is here is interesting and entertaining.
The vampires claim humans and vamps coexist as equals, but in reality, the humans are being manipulated and placated. The “equality” narrative feels like carefully packaged propaganda while the vampires slowly tighten their grip on power. Humans are confined to districts, their movement becomes increasingly restricted, and everything is framed as being for their “safety and protection.” 👀
Sound familiar? 😅
I don’t want to get too detailed about Emery’s daily life, her roommate, the good vampires versus the terrifying ones, or the dynamics at the university because I can't do it justice without giving too much away. But I will say this: the slow-burn payoff was absolutely worth it. The book culminates with Emery standing before the vampire court, and things get WILD. 🩸🔥
The ending is definitely cliffhanger-ish, but thankfully book two is due out in July, so the wait won’t be too painful.
I genuinely loved the dystopian vampire atmosphere. This kind of story is completely my thing. 🖤
What didn’t fully work for me was the political structure. I struggled a bit with the idea that the vampires running the elite university had essentially assumed control of the human government. The school administration running society needs way more explanation if it’s going to fully make sense to me.
Still, this has been a really enjoyable start to the series, and I’m hoping the author gives us much more backstory and lore moving forward.
If I could give half stars, this would be 2,5⭐️ for me.
I almost DNF’d within the first 3 chapters due to what felt like an excessive useage of the semicolon. It was ruining the flow of the text. This luckily eased up a bit after the first chapters so I stuck to it.
This story had alot of potential, it could have been really interesting. At the end of the day though, it just wasn’t the story for me. Nothing really happened and the few things that did happen felt glossed over.
I would have loved to see some more worldbuilding and depths to the characters. There’s a deadly virus but we barely get information about it. Why are people not more worried if there is a new strain of a deadly virus that has caused mass casualties just a few years earlier? I feel like this could have been built more on.
The romance in this story also felt weak to me. Where’s the build up? The flirting? The tension? Maybe it would have helped if this part was more fleshed out, seeing some more interaction between the two in between the times they meet at parties and so on. Maybe a POV from the MMC would have helped. I also didn’t really take to any of the main characters which doesn’t help.
Overall it’s a story with alot of potential, it just fell a bit flat for me in the execution of it.
This book has everything you are looking for from forced proximity to morally grey MMC, dark academia, politics, power imbalance and so much more. This is a slow burn that will have you kicking your feet at 2 am! This is a dystopian story where a sickness killed off a large portion of the human population. Our girl, Emery (Ry) is smart with a no hold back type of girl. She get selected to attend a college amongst the vampires on a scholarship. The vampires are the elite who now have control. When she is attending school she meets her best friend Zo, who is always getting Ry to get out of her comfort zone, go out, mingle with other scholarship students and vampires. Ry is the type to stay in and binge watch horror movies all day!!! Then enter the one and only Dane Calder…vampire/heir. Dane is everything you want a MMC! He is protective her Ry from the very beginning. The vampires claim that they equals with humans but that is far from how it really is. As Ry would put it, Vampires are a parasite…yes she said that in class…did not go too well as you could imagine. The humans are being controlled by the vampires in a manipulative way. They are made to believe that everything is for the humans safety and slowly the humans become restricted. The ending is insane. I cant wait for book 2. So far one of my favorite reads of the year! And the cover art is STUNNING!
First and foremost, I would like to thank the author for the opportunity to ARC read their novel.
As an English Major, this book was really hard for me to read. The run on sentences were exhausting and the typos and general misuse of words made the comprehension side of reading the novel very difficult for me. I also found that the book would deviate from focusing on Emery and give random tidbits that Emery wasnt necessarily seeing herself, which again, pulled me away from my experience.
Besides the technical part of the novel, I did enjoy the plot. Emery being a spit fire and not willing to back down and be treated like cattle was entertaining to me. Dane was a bit flat as a character. I didnt feel like we got to know him very well. In all honesty, I felt like Zoe and Rik’s relationship felt more “real” to me than Dane’s and Emery’s. The final spicy scene felt unwarranted and forced. I wont spoil what was happening, but generally, I dont feel like a spicy scene was the best way for Emery to express her emotions after the espionage mission she put herself on. The ending was interesting but also leaves us with more questions than when we started the novel. A supposed surefire way to force us to read the next, I suppose.
This was an ok read for me. It was hard to get into at first due to the grammatical errors but turned out ok once I trained myself to overlook those mistakes. I feel that there was a lot that could have been done from the author to provide a better reading experience, such as an explanation of the vampires and their rules, laws and hierarchy systems. This story was told in the 3rd person POV which would have been fine if there were more context clues on who was speaking at what time ect. I would have to back track or more forward a page or two in an attempt to figure out who was saying what and that took away from the experience. It is also labeled as a slow burn, which it was not. There wasn't really any pining, character growth on more than a surface level or emotional tension between the two MCs.
Conceptually, this story has a lot of promise. There was some character building and development that took place through the entirety of the book. The secondary characters played a good role and show real promise in being able to aide in bringing this story to life, if the cards are played correctly.
I do want to see how this story plays out.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Thankyou to the author for my ARC copy of this novel :)
A story with some fantastic potential ahead. It had me hooked from chapter 1 and had a consistent dark and mysterious vibe throughout. Im still wondering about the characters true motivations and whether to trust them!
It felt a very strong introduction to this dark world as I have left the book with more questions than answers thats definitely not a bad thing and I am really looking forward to book 2 as the political intrigue soared in the final 100 pages and really set the scene for the following books.
I adored our FMC with her quick wit and found myself gasping at her at her sass and found myself being both proud and terrified for her like girl, keep your head down PLEASE. Very interested to see how her story plays out and who she will offend next. I loved her friendship group and how real and relatable they felt.
I dont even want to comment on our MMC as Although he's done nothing wrong and quite clearly loves Emery and is devoted to her... I can't shake this suspicious feeling I have. Book 2 cant come quick enough!
I received an ARC of The Accord by Nyx Hunt and absolutely devoured it in a day, it’s one of those books that just grabs hold of you and then you can’t put it down!
The dark academia vibe added an atmospheric edge to the story and I loved how it shaped tensions between some of the characters. The FMC’s slightly sassy nature made it impossible not to root for her. And the MMC? He radiates pure “touch her and die” energy in the absolute best way.
The clash between humans and vampires is for me one of the strongest parts of the book. Hunt builds up the power struggles and political undercurrent so vividly that every scene seemed high-stakes and intentional, not just background noise.
If you like forbidden vampire-human relationships, academia-meets-danger vibes and sharp tongued heroines this book is for you! An incredible start to what I hope becomes a deliciously chaotic series!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
It’s a book based on vampiric civilization and the opportunity to co-exist with human civilization. Throughout the book you learn about sickness that has destroyed the human world, enabling the vampiric world to rise.
Our MFC , Emery, is fantastically smart mouthed to the point it often gets her in trouble. She is stubborn and loyal to those she holds close. Our MMC Dane, is incredibly sweet and protective of Emery. He quickly falls in every way he can for her with a touch of *touch her and die* vibes.
Watching as their relationship unfolds as well as watching the struggles Dane has from being an heir will have you on the edge turning pages to figure out what happens next.
Highly recommend giving this book a try!
I was given the amazing opportunity to read this book prior to release and I couldn’t be more thankful for it!
I was a BETA reader for this new Author and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book; in fact it has been my favourite read of 2026! The opening scene set the tone for me; dark, sinister and layered. The characters are strong, and I enjoyed the rapport between the humans and the uneasy relationship with the vampires. I loved the strong FMC and the differing relationships that felt real and I could resonate unlike many books where the relationships and dialogue don’t feel as real. I enjoyed the spicy scenes and liked that they weren’t unearned. The story building and world setting were strong and I felt immersed fully throughout - it felt like something was continually building and I can’t wait to read the next book to see what else unfurls!
Wow. Emery is such a compelling character. strong minded, yet likeable. The author does a fantastic job of fleshing out her character and exploring the dynamics of her friendship group.
Then there’s Dane. He completely intrigues me. I found myself constantly reading "one more chapter" to try to uncover the motivations behind his behavior. The storyline itself is great and features an intense buildup. My only slight hurdle was the political discussions near the end became a bit dense, and I lost my way.
However, I’ve come away with a genuine investment in these characters. I’m eager to see where the author takes them next, and I’ll definitely be waiting for the next installment
Loved this book! The world building was so good and the way the author describes the surroundings and scenes really makes you feel you are there and immersed with the characters. I loved that the theme wasn’t just Vampires and Humans, but had a deep rhetoric about control and links to real life scenarios (no spoilers!) that make the whole world intriguing and kept me thoroughly engaged at all times. The love interests and scenes were built and real and added layers to a wider story that has so much more to give. When the book finished it left me wanting more and dying to find out what happens next! This book gave me Sarah J Maas vibes and is a series I’m really looking forward to keep reading!
Wow 🤯 The way this book had me hooked from the very beginning and kept me up late because i just could not put it down 😍 I loved everything about this book ! The fiery FMC, mysterious and seductive MMC and loveable side characters were just such a good fit 😮💨 I really enjoyed the academia setting and the vampire x human world as it really added to the suspense and really kept me on my toes never knowing what was going to come next 😅 Nyx did an amazing job at the character development, relationships and world building with giving us just enough details to keep us wanting to read more and more to know what was next ! And that ending 👀 I need book 2 ASAP 😍😍 Overall really fun read, easy to follow along and leaving us needing more !❤️
The Accord is a dark romantasy that focuses heavily on atmosphere, emotional tension, and morally grey characters. The story delivers a strong slow-burn dynamic with plenty of mystery and relationship drama, making it an engaging and addictive read for fans of modern fantasy romance.
The pacing is fast, the chemistry between the characters stands out, and the darker tone gives the book a compelling edge. While the worldbuilding may feel a bit underdeveloped at times and some tropes are familiar, the emotional intensity and suspense keep the story entertaining throughout.
Overall, The Accord is a solid pick for readers who enjoy dark fantasy romance with tension, danger, and emotionally charged character dynamics.
The FMC, Emery, is strong-willed. She does what she thinks is right, even if it'll get her into some trouble. She's invited to a prestigious university as part of the Human Integration Programme, where a select few humans can attend class alongside vampires. Throughout the novel, she makes friends alongside some select enemies. The world and relationship building was there. Further explanation into the political side of the book would have moved this to a 4 rating. However, I look forward to the next addition to this story to see how the ending plays out!
Wow! I can’t wait to see what happens next!! I am so thankful for the opportunity to read this novel in advance. I really enjoyed the world Nyx has built. Definitely doing vampires a bit differently!
My only issues is that we didn’t get all the vampires rules laid out for us. We know they can walk in the sun and eat real food but all the other normal characteristics weren’t addressed. Things like age, reproduction, how to harm them ext. Hopefully the next book gets a little more into that.
Firstly, I want to say thank you to the author for providing with a ARC of this book.
I really enjoyed this book, I found the plot of the story really interesting. I did really like our FMC and MMC, however I did find myself wondering what the MMC was thinking and I think it would have been even better with his POV.
For me the 10% of the story did feel a little rushed so I feel like if that was fleshed out a little bit more it would have been so good. But overall I would recommend this book to Anyone who loves dystopian fantasy romances and I’m interested in where the story is going to go.
I loved this! I was really there and saw the buildings, wonderful worldbuilding. The relationships Emery has with her friends, her family in the district, and the writing style are wonderful. Looking forward to finding out more about the politics and if I am right in some thoughts I had during the course of the book. I was captivated from the first words to the last. Looking forward to book two.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I liked the concept. Vampires, count me in anytime. Slightly dark academy, too. The characters were funny and so like real people, that it made me feel close to them. But sometimes I felt like the information didn’t come through. The ending wasn’t really explained in my opinion, but other than that, I liked the book. Thank you again for the opportunity.
Holy addicting book!!!! Emery - totally love her! She is strong, sassy, and you can get a feel for the connection between her and Dane; it does not feel forced. Dane - protective and obsessive, your classic morally grey MMC. So far, this series successfully blends dark academia and vampire troupes. It pulls the reader into the story from chapter 1.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
If I could give this book 6 ⭐ I would! This story engulfed me from the beginning and I could not put it down. I love everything about this book. The dark academia setting, lost family and found family, forbidden love, vampires, heirs to houses and a strong FMC and MMC and a twist at end. Wishing the next installment were out so I can know what happens next.
Highly recommend! Good world building and character development. Political intrigue was a little hard to understand, the next book might make it make sense. I loved the tension. It left so many questions! I can’t wait for book 2 to learn more about what happens next, and hopefully answer some questions!
Absolutely Amazing story and author. The Accord had my attention from the moment I picked it up. The MFC is stubborn, sassy and full of life with a take no crap attitude. MMC falls hard and fast for the MFC. I love how protective he is of her from beginning to the end of the book. The ending will leave you waiting to see what happens next. I can’t wait to read book 2.
I liked the plot, but for me the build up was long, too little happened to a start, but it builds up to greater story, we are just getting startet - so definitely worth a read if you like College and "corona" vibes, with restrictions and strict laws
Overall I liked it, but not really my type of book, unfortunately Would give it 3,5 stars
This book is definitely for people who like dark academia. I enjoyed the first half of the book, but it did get a little slow. It did pick up again toward the end. I would have liked to know more about the vampires and their lore.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Thank you so much for letting me be an ARC reader! This book is a slow burner and while i found it a little hard to get into at first it is a great story with building characters and interesting ideas. A must read for anyone who loves vampire vs human dynamics!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The politics, pacing, and world building sometimes had me turned around, but it was a pretty easy read. Seeing how Emery will navigate the next steps in vampire politics and how she copes has me anticipating book 2.
Thank you to the author for letting me arc read this book.
I found this book to be well written and the characters to be captivating and interesting. I cant wait to read the next book it was one hell of a page turner.
