I would give this 6 stars if I could. I am totally consumed by this world, these characters, Ada’s writing! Reading this book, every sentence, every paragraph, I was in AWE of the beauty of her words. It’s not filled with trendy catchphrases or cliches. THIS is creating; writing a work of fiction that takes readers to another world, makes them fall in love with characters, with ideals.
Kiera is strong, stubborn, defiant, bad ass, yet so relatable and vulnerable. All of her insecurities and doubts, are thoughts I struggle with every day (obviously, on a smaller scales). I just don’t have cool dragons to talk me through them. She asks questions, if left with zero or vague answers, but she always finds the way.
Soren…oh, Soren. He might be one of my top 2 MMC’s EVER. He cares so deeply for Kiera, however, he has so much faith and trust in her that he never holds her back. He is there when she needs him, as soon as she needs him, but he gives her space to do what she needs to.
And Veyrik, geez, if I did not love Soren so much, I would be rooting for a way around the soul-bond. Kiera and Veyrik’s friendship, is beautiful.
The banter, the drama, the tension, the world building are all top tier. I AM OBSESSED.
Now I don’t know what to do with myself…I need everyone to read these books!
Book 2 isn’t even out yet, and Book 3 cannot be released soon enough! I will leave you with this…
“Sometimes I catch myself likening my mind to the sea. On rare, quiet days it lies almost still, the waves lapping softly at the shore. But lately, more often than not, it’s a storm—churning, crashing, raging against everything in its path, including me. When those storms rise inside me, Soren becomes my harbor: an immovable force that absorbs every blow without cracking, every surge without retreating. And when the waters finally calm, he’s still there, exactly as he has always been.”
Book 2 in the Scale of Eternity trilogy did not disappoint. I'm already needing book 3.
The best part of this story was watching Kiera's growth in this book. She continues to work really hard to master the elements and grows as a strong woman and warrior in the process. The conversations she has with her mother are so heartfelt and really help us realize the up bringing Kiera had. And helps us to understand why she doesn't want to change her sense of self even as she becomes more powerful. She really holds on to the values that mean so much to her. Even when she wants to cross that line.
I really enjoy the relationship she has with Veyrik. Their banter and friendship is everything. He also challenges her in ways that make her grow and become better in her abilities to master fire. He's fiercely protective but also realizes she's going to do whatever she wants, even if he doesn't agree. There were some laugh out loud moments I had reading their conversations.
Soren is one of the best shadow daddy's. He loves Kiera so much, but he also gives her the space and strength to grow into the Lady of the Umbral Expanse she needs to be. He doesn't persuade her in her decisions and even if he doesn't like the outcome of her choices, he still stands by her. He's also extremely powerful and there's the whole touch her and die vibe. He trusts her, believes in her and is her biggest cheerleader. And the banter between Soren and Veyrik is also pretty great. Deep down i think they might be besties.
The battles are fierce and makes you realize just how deadly the elements can be. The dragons are always so cryptic but they seem to be there for Kiera when she needs them the most. They too trust her to make the decisions necessary to try and save the realms. Reluctantly i think they are all rooting for her, even if some of them are pretty grumpy. Lol. Kiera seems to be very protective of the dragons and wants to honor them when she can, without giving away how much she knows about them.
In this book we're reunited with some previous side characters that are always trying to help Kiera when they can. But I still don't like Tormen, ugh. But we also meet some new and interesting characters along the way. They help her to hone in on some of her powers and help her become stronger. I really can't wait for book 3.
Review of advanced reader copy provided by author in exchange for an honest review.
I read book 1 and 2 back to back so I’m reviewing the two of them together. All I can say is… where’s book 3 at?? 😭 The cliffhanger is just.. diabolical 💔. These books were definitely an emotional roller coaster: you’re happy one second, devastated the other, and even when the characters finally seem to be catching a break, you remember there’s this looming world-shattering war happening. This series gives me ATLA vibes in the best way possible (I am the biggest fan of that show).
In this series, we follow Kiera, a mortal woman who made a living by being a “fixer”. She gets whisked away into the world of the fae; a race told only in stories and legends. She is told that she is the saviour mentioned in their ancient prophecies and is tasked with mastering all four elements (she’s basically the avatar!). She will either become the key to stop the rifts that are physically breaking apart the fae realm, or be the reason for their downfall.
I honestly loved the whole world-building of this series. All the different dominions, the history of the dragons, and how the fae were gifted their powers was so interesting to me. I also really enjoyed how realistic Kiera’s character was. She was not happy to be torn away from her home and everything she knew and she showed them as such by being defiant and headstrong. I also like how her character stayed consistent throughout even as she grows as a character. She stays true to herself and doesn’t let other people’s expectations of her change who she is.
The fight scenes in this series were top tier. I’ve never read anything with so many fight scenes described so vividly. The best part is, each fight is different. People don’t use the same 3-5 moves in every fight— they come up with something unique and adapt depending on the situation or their enemy. This really made the fight scenes interesting throughout the two books. I also really enjoyed how Kiera uses her powers in “unconventional”/ creative ways. This really shows how she isn’t a fae who has trained in the techniques passed down for centuries. She’s a mortal who suddenly gained these powers, and is using them in ways that suit her.
Although the romance is also fantastic, I really appreciated the fact that it didn’t overshadow the overall plot and more action-based direction of some of the scenes. This helped with keeping the tension and fear of the oncoming calamity that is threatening their world.
Overall, this was such a fantastic read and honestly a really solid way to write an elemental magic system. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who loves elemental magic, dragons, and action-packed battles! I’m literally shaking as I write this because I am devastated with that cliffhanger and need book 3 ASAP!
First, thank you to Ada Marlowe for writing one of my favorite series of 2026 so far and for allowing me to read it in advance.
5 ⭐️ slowburn fantasy romance with dragons, found family and a touch her and die MMC.
This sequel to Withered by Shadows picks up right where the first book left off. I was immediately pulled back into the world and found myself hooked on every chapter as Kiera continues her journey. Now that I’ve finished, I’m already desperate for book three, though I’ll (impatiently) wait for its release.
One of my favorite aspects of this series is Kiera’s growth. Watching her step into her power, especially the training scenes as she learns control, was incredibly fun. I loved seeing her prove she’s not someone to be underestimated.
We’re also introduced to new characters, who add wit and depth to the story, while previous relationships evolve. The found family dynamic remains a highlight, and the banter with Veyrik brings some much needed humor. Her fated mate relationship with Soren continues to develop nicely, there is still tension and hidden aspects, but also trust and respect as they navigate challenges together. I’m really excited to see where their relationship goes next.
And of course, the dragons! They remain a unique and intriguing part of the story. Getting to see them more, hear their thoughts and conversations really elevates the story progression.
Some of my favorite quotes:
“Sometimes we have to risk who we are to become who we need to be… Sometimes who we need to be is exactly who we’ve already become.”
“You’re not going to like what I’m about to do.”
“You will rise stronger than before, and you will keep fighting.”
This second book…man oh man! Kiera’s story continues to unfold and grow and I just absolutely love her character. With some trilogy series, the middle book can be more of a filler, or not as fun to read until the last one. But NOT this one..it was still full of action and I loved seeing the character growth and learning more about the dragons and the fae world. I’m a sucker for elemental wielding and this has plenty 🤩 My emotions were all over the place and I may have had some tears…especially at the end. It ends on a cliffhanger and now I’m dying for the final book 😭🫶🏻 thank you SO much to Ada Marlowe for giving me the opportunity to be an arc reader for you! Your writing is incredible and I can’t wait to see where you take us in the next one!
I was so excited to read the next book in this series. It did not disappoint and wove the story and details together beautifully. Very unique magic system/world building, loved the dragons which brought so much depth to the story. The description of her internal mental world was also an interesting aspect that really helped you feel like you were in the story - being interested in psychology I found this fascinating as an idea outside of the story itself. This second book brought so much more understanding to a lot of what is essentially happening in the story behind the scenes which made the plot that much richer. Can't wait for the third!
eARC review. i enjoyed this book so much! Kiera continues on with her badassery and learning all of the elements. i absolutely LOVE the relationship Kiera and Veyrik have. It’s good for her to have a friend who cares about her as much as he does. TBH, if i didn’t love Kiera and Soren together so much, i’d be rooting for Veyrik and Kiera😅
I started and finished this book in one day 😝 if that says anything. These books are super quick and addictive. I can’t wait for the next one!! Veyrik is my favorite character 🙂↕️ if anything happens to him I swear to god I will start a fight. I hope he gets a happy ending. If not…I will cry. Cliffhanger!! Diabolical, I am yearning for the next book 🙏
I was excited to return to this world. It did not disappoint. Kiera is gaining strength but more of the world is on her shoulders. She must learn to wield and find a way to save her brother. I couldn’t put this down and now I can’t wait for the next book. I was given an ARC by the author and willingly leave this review.
This took longer than I expected to finish, but I loved every second of it! Ada has such a captivating way of storytelling, and I ended up enjoying this book so much. And thank you for sending me an Arc copy you have no idea how happy I am you did that! 😭😭
I especially loved getting more of Veyrik in this installment. Honestly, he completely stole the show for me. Every time he appeared on the page, my attention immediately shifted to him—everyone else kind of faded into the background. He just has such a strong presence.
The pacing in this book felt different from the first one—it was definitely slower, but felt rushed in other way,. But the slow pace gave the characters and relationships more room to develop naturally, which made the emotional moments hit even harder. I think specially learning about Veyrik past was defiantly an emotional moment for me.
Soren and Kiera were amazing together, and I genuinely loved all of their moments. Their chemistry felt effortless, and they balanced each other so well throughout the story. They do have some issues where Soren doesn’t tell Kiera things and she goes and learn from it from someone else and that is not always a good thing. There was a scene that lowkey reminds me of iron flame where Soren goes like “I will tell you what you want you need to know.” And Kiera is like no I want you to tell me everything, because I don’t know your past well to ask the correct questions so, full transparency.
Another thing I appreciated was finally getting to see the other two dragons that were missing in the first book. It made the world feel even fuller and added more depth to the story overall.
I also have to say that one of my favorite scenes was when Kiera finally got her fire powers and had that fight scene with Veyrik to test her potential. That moment was so intense and exciting to read, and I loved seeing just how powerful she could become.
Another scene that really resonated with me involved Lord Elarion. Throughout most of the first book, he comes across as cold, harsh, and very standoffish, but in this one toward the end there’s a moment where he regrets not teaching Kiera how to wield air. That small moment of vulnerability really stood out to me because it hinted that there’s much more to his character beneath the cold exterior. Now we are going to talk about another lord…. Tormen He has no business being that good looking, and he did what he did but I’ll give him some Grace, he may or may not have redeem himself a bit in this book with what he did for Kiera even though it was partially his fault. I’m interesting to see where his character arc will go.
We’re also introduced to Varis, who seems like he could become a real threat in the future to Tormen —not because of who he is personally, but because of the choices their parents made. He was brought in to teach Kiera terra wielding, and while reading I briefly had this ridiculous theory that maybe Tormen had somehow changed and was going to become her teacher instead—which honestly made no sense in hindsight, haha. So I’m definitely glad the story went in this direction instead. I’m really interested in learning more about Varis because there’s clearly a lot more to his character beneath the surface. I’m excited to see what the next book has in store for him.
Now for the reason it wasn’t a 5 star, even though this was a good read, I think there were some twerk that could have made it better So There was a scene where everyone from Umbral Expense gathered together, and while the fear and tension were clearly meant to feel impactful, the moment fell a little flat for me because none of the characters were really given names or distinct personalities. It made them feel more like background NPCs than actual people, so it was harder to feel emotionally connected to what was happening. There was also a moment where we were introduced to a character who apparently appeared in the first book, but honestly, he wasn’t memorable enough for me to immediately recognize him. My first reaction was basically, “Wait… who is this again?” I don’t know something felt flat with this character as well, because I literally didn’t feel anything when his demise happened. There was almost a tension there but I feel it ended too quickly when another character stepped in and did it for Kiera. I think the first book did a better job showing Kiera learning the elements. In this one, that part of her journey felt a bit rushed at times, and it leaned more toward telling us about her progress instead of fully showing it. There were still some good moments, but they didn’t feel as memorable as in the first book, where we experienced the learning process alongside Kiera, watched her struggle, practice, and gradually grow into her abilities

Omg!!! Huge thank you Ada Marlowe for picking me yet again for another ARC review. I have one more with you after this one but to be given the opportunity to read book 2 in the Scales of Eternity series is a privilege. Thank you so much.
I was absolutely excited to jump into Shattered by Wrath because after Withered by Shadows I was left in anticipation!!
Not to give too much away 🤭 Shattered by wrath picks up right after the ending for book 1 and Keira is faced with the journey of having to finish mastering the rest of the elements in order to save her brother all while STILL having to tackle to scrutiny of the Fae’s around her. She’s battle new found secrets and her inner turmoil of self doubt.
Ada Marlowe has become one of my favorite authors. Her story telling is so damn good. I found myself reading this book as if I was watching a show. She’s so descriptive and the emotions of each character had me wishing i wasn’t at the end of that conversation 🤣🤣
This book had a different goal i believe and pacing (although still fast) felt completely different than the first book. I truly feel like book 3 is going to wreck me and the way this one has set up for the finale has me anxious 🤣🤣. It wasn’t as dramatic as book 1 but it for sure has me thinking how this is going to end.
I said it in my first review but I absolutely love Keira. And the new lever of self growth throughout this book just elevated her character status for me. The other person I found myself loving more and more was Soren. In the first book I liked him cuz he was mysterious and brooding and even tho he is still those things 🤭 the level of devotion he has for Keira is literally goals. This man is so secure in who he is!!! And the way he knows Keira’s needs before she knows them herself!!??? Omg stop!!! A thousand times yes!! 🥹🥹🥹🤩🤩🤩
Do we even have to talk about Veyrik!? UM ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY!!! Another character that has over exceeded my expectations!!! He is definitely my favorite character of all time. My love for this non-exist man is something to be studied. He needs a side story!! Because he can’t go on living the rest of his life without falling back in love with someone. 😭😭😭😭 #teamveyrikforlife
Getting to read more about the dragons and Keira’s growing relationship with them was also extremely enjoyable. I absolutely loved it. How they’re warming up to her 🥹🥹 I also enjoyed readying each dragons personality. They are such important pieces to this story which is awesome.
From the very first chapter, Kiera's determination and fiery spirit shine through and anyone who dares to stand in her way quickly learns just how fierce she can be. The emotional depth of her journey is balanced by moments of warmth, especially in her conversations with her mother. The “mom wisdom” woven into those scenes adds a heartfelt touch, and Ma calling Soren “lovely” brought a smile to my face. Kiera and Soren’s soul bond is so lovely. Their honest communication and unwavering trust make their relationship feel real and grounded, even in a world filled with dragons and elemental magic. Soren never overshadows Kiera’s strength; instead, he encourages her to grow, to push her limits, and to embrace her power. Their connection is both tender and fierce which is a perfect reflection of the world they inhabit. Veyrik’s role in helping Kiera train her magic adds depth to the story. Seeing his lighter side and hearing him speak about his lost love was so nice to see. His protectiveness towards Kiera rivals Soren’s, and his quiet strength makes him unforgettable. He’s a complex, soulful character who easily captured my heart. Their friendship and banter is amazing. The elemental magic and dragons are nothing short of epic. Kiera’s growing mastery of her powers is thrilling to watch, and the emotional intensity of her journey especially as she searches for her brother Rory. The ending is a whirlwind of emotion and suspense, leaving me speechless and my emotions all over the place. The writing is immersive, the world building rich, and the character growth brilliantly executed. Every page pulls the reader deeper into a world that feels alive and vibrant. I didn’t want to put it down. The author has truly outdone herself with this one. Forget Violet and Xaden, Kiera and Soren are the ultimate duo. The dragons, the magic, the bonds, and the emotional depth make this series stand out as something truly special. This book doesn’t just continue the story; it elevates it, setting the stage for what promises to be an unforgettable third book. So incredibly good highly recommend
This second book really expanded the world and story in such a good way. I already enjoyed the first book, but this one felt bigger, darker, more emotional, and much more intense overall.
One thing I really loved was how much more depth we got with the worldbuilding. Learning more about the dominions, the dragons, the magic, and how everything connects made the story feel so immersive. It added so much more weight to everything happening and made the world feel alive instead of just being a backdrop to the plot.
Kiera continued to be one of my favorite parts of the series. I appreciated that even as she grows and becomes stronger, she still feels like herself. She is stubborn, emotional, determined, and refuses to let everyone around her define who she should become. Her reactions to everything she has lost and gone through felt realistic and made her easy to connect with.
The action scenes in this book were honestly so well done. Every fight felt different and creative instead of repetitive, which kept things exciting the entire time. I especially loved seeing Kiera continue to grow into her powers and use them in her own way instead of feeling like a perfectly trained character who suddenly knows everything. It made her progression feel much more natural and believable.
I also really appreciated that while the romance and emotional tension are still there, the story never loses focus on the bigger plot. The balance between action, emotion, magic, and character development was done really well.
There were definitely moments in this book that hit emotionally, and the stakes felt much higher this time around. You can really feel the pressure building and the world unraveling around the characters.
Overall, I’m giving this book 4 out of 5 stars. I really enjoyed where the story went, I’m invested in these characters, and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing where the series goes next. Also very grateful I had the chance to read this as an ARC reader because it was such a fun continuation of the series.
Thank you Ada Marlowe for the opportunity to be one of your ARC readers. This second book was truly remarkable, particularly in its portrayal of Kiera's character development. The narrative effectively conveyed her internal struggles with identity and her feelings of unworthiness despite being the chosen one. Her strong desire to forge her own destiny was a compelling aspect of the story. I especially enjoyed her interactions with the dragons, and the way Auralyth permitted Kiera to communicate with her. Unlike many trilogies where the second book can feel like a filler, this one was captivating from beginning to end. I found it very difficult to put down.
I absolutely adore Seron! His compassion towards Kiera is evident, and his love for her is beautifully balanced with his respect for her free will, even when he may not entirely agree with her choices. I am hopeful that we will gain further insight into Seron's emotions in Book Three, as he appears to have many suppressed feelings. Veyrik brought a delightful element to the book; his witty exchanges with Kiera were a joy to read. I can easily envision him serving as Seron's best man at their wedding.
If you appreciate stories featuring dragons, fae, elemental magic, and ancient prophecies, I believe you will thoroughly enjoy this book. Please be aware that the book concludes with a cliffhanger.

Thank you Ada for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC. I am truly grateful!
Omg, I tried really hard not to read this second book too fast because I honestly did not want the story to end. Ada again, brings this story to life and it is just incredible. A perfect picture in my head, played out as a movie.
We continue Kiera's story where we left off, Rory was taken and she tries her best to try to get him back. While planning and learning her wielding, she also starts to learn more about the prophecy and more of whats been hidden from her. We also learn more about the dragons and about Lord Veyrik. How it all comes together is just magnificent. I can't help but fall for Veyrik with all the banter and silliness that comes from him. I know he isn't our MMC, Soren, but there's just something about Veyrik.
Kiera is definitely someone I feel who I can connect with. She is fierce, strong, and has the heart of gold. She tries to help as much as she can even when people doubt her and continue to look down on her. She has that fire in her veins that makes her defiant, but in a good way. Maybe even reckless. But even though she's fae, she still has the heart of a human.
I cannot wait for book 3 in this series. Ada, you did a fabulous job with these books, I cannot wait for what else you have in store.
Thank you Ada Marlowe for providing this eARC in return for my honest review!
5⭐️ I absolutely adored this book!! Shattered by Wrath is the sequel to Withered by Shadows and I had an amazing time following Kiera's journey, and I am already eagerly waiting for book 3!
First of all, I read the majority of this book in one sitting and I just flat out love it. The training montages are so fun to read and I like that Kiera slowly gains additional power and finds ways to intertwine them. Her personal growth is beautiful to see because she goes from grieving and not believing in herself to using that grief to channel more power and confidence. Soren is the most perfect MMC for Kiera and no one can convince me otherwise. When he gets called on certain actions, he doesn't double down, he apologizes and promises to do better, and then actually does better!
I love the found family trope here but I also appreciate that she maintains her relationship with her mom and brother. Veyrik is such a funny character too but has so much depth! The dynamic between him and Kiera is flirtatious but I like that him and Soren have a brotherly relationship. Tormen as a character is very intriguing too and I am looking forward to seeing how his story progresses through the next book. Elarion is cocky and aloof but the banter with Kiera is top tier! Lastly, the dragons are such a unique aspect to this story and their commentary is hilarious. The back and forth between them and Kiera is peak banter. I also love how engrained they are within the lore of the world while simultaneously being forgotten by most.
Thank you again to Ada Marlowe for this eARC! I am really looking forward to the rest of this series!
This was a strong follow-up to Book 1, and in my opinion, it's even better - that's likely because the questions I had from the first book were answered in this one.
The standout aspect of this book was the relationships, particularly the non-romantic ones. The bond between Kiera and Veyrik was touching, and I loved seeing how grief, loyalty, and trust were played out. Another relationship I enjoyed (though it was brief) was the relationship between Kiera and her mom. It's sweet and real, so much so that I didn't realize I needed to read a story where the FMC loved her momma.
While the romance takes a backseat, the story does benefit from that. The emotional weight comes from the high stakes, character dynamics, and the shifts in trust that Kiera makes, particularly with some of the grumpy characters (no, I won't give spoilers on who). Reading and seeing those bonds form was satisfying.
Annnnnd the ending.....be prepared for a cliffhanger!
Content: 1. Closed-door romance with some steamy lead-up. No explicit details given. 2. Some minor curse words, but very few. 3. There is talk of war and battle scenes, but they're not grotesque in description. The author does a good job letting readers fill in the blanks.
I absolutely loved this book! As an avid reader, two things worried me going in: I would no longer root for Kiera and Soren as a couple now that they’re together; this book would really serve as lead-up to the third A.K.A. “this could’ve been an email.” And I am happy to report that neither of those things are true. I still love both of them individually and as a couple. They kept me invested from the get go. Kiera continued to be a defiant, smart protagonist that was easy to root for. Soren, despite making some mistakes throughout, was still compelling & had me thinking “just when I thought I couldn’t love you more” on repeat. I am still obsessed with Veyrik – the banter is seriously next level – and a new character Varis was introduced who I also love.
Even with the “chosen one” trope, everything continues to feel earned rather than just predestined. Part of that is 99% of fae doubt Kiera until she proves herself. The other, larger part is that Kiera struggled with her sense of identity & how to fulfill the prophecy HER way. Basically, to summarize how great this book is, I just finished it before writing this review, and I’m already impatient to read the third!!!
Honest review of an eARC received from the author. Thank you, Ada!
Ada Marlowe does not miss! Shattered by Wrath doesn’t lull like some middle books in trilogies. It was filled with adventure and action, and kept me just as invested in this world.
Kiera’s growth throughout this book is so heartwarming. Getting to watch her hone her power and figure out what it all means to her. She remains a character you can relate to on many levels, even if you didn’t get fae powers yourself.
Soren grew even more on me in this book! The way he is protective but doesn’t constrain Kiera. Very much touch her and die energy, but fully aware she can hold her own ground. His actions never portray her as weak or diminish her strength, both magically and emotionally. But I can’t help but think that more secrets are hiding under the surface.
And now Veyrik 🥰of course I am even more obsessed with him now!! Despite loving Kiera and Soren together, I can’t help but root for Veyrik. The confidence, charm, love, and playfulness. Truly a swoon-worthy man in my mind, and you cannot convince me otherwise.
Anxiously awaiting book three… preferably in my hands immediately 🥺
ARC REVIEW - COPY RECEIVED FROM AUTHOR <3 (NO SPOILERS)
Book two of the Scales of Eternity series took everything I loved from book one and amplified it. The world is richer, the magic is wilder, and the DRAGONS? I’m fully obsessed. Ada Marlowe knows exactly how to pull you deeper into Aelthar with every chapter.
Kiera continues to shine as a mortal navigating a brutal fae world, and watching her grow into her elemental power was such a highlight. Soren remains the intense, shadow‑drenched menace of my dreams, appearing the moment she thinks of him (the chokehold he has on me). And Veyrik… listen, he has secrets, but that tension is undeniable. Book three is about to be chaos in the best way.
The battles, the magic, the betrayals, the grief — this book hits every emotional note. The dragon mystery deepens, the stakes rise, and that ending left me staring at the wall. I’m so ready for the next chapter of this story.
Rating: 5 ⭐️ Wow, what an amazing sequel and continuation to Withered by Shadows (Book 1)!! Book 2 is fast-paced, action-packed, and has beautifully descriptive world-building! Kiera never fails to amaze me- her powers, her courage, and elemental wielding- are nothing short of amazing. She is an absolute badass FMC! I’ve loved Soren since Book 1 and it was refreshing to see his softer yet protective demeanor towards Kiera. As for Veyrik, oh my!! Such a lovable character and I couldn’t help but feel smitten anytime he appeared in the book. His charm, witty persona, and banter are unmatched! I enjoyed every page of this story, especially when we get to meet the other dragons, and I cannot wait to read Book 3! We were left on a cliffhanger and now I also have conflicting thoughts about Tormen! Thank you so much, Ada, for this amazing series! I look forward to Kiera’s journey as she continues her fight to save Aelthar!
I just finished Shattered by Wrath as an ARC reader and it was definitely a stressful ride in the best way. This second book really ups the stakes and that cliffhanger at the end still has me reeling.
The chemistry between the main characters is so intense and I loved seeing more of their vulnerable sides while they dealt with all the political chaos. The stakes felt so much higher this time and I was actually worried for them every time I turned the page.
If I had to give some feedback the travel sequences in the middle felt a little dragged out and I wanted to get back to the main action sooner. Also some of the side characters' motivations felt a bit blurry at times but the core emotional parts totally made up for it.
Overall it was a wild ride and I need book 3 now. If you liked the first one you are going to be obsessed with how much deeper this story goes.
Shattered By Wrath picks up where book 2 left off. It had a bit of a slow start for me but as soon as Kiera got out of her own way, the pace picked up as she learned two more elemental powers, thereby stepping into her own power. There’s also great character development between Kiera and all of the other people in here life now, although there’s still a power and knowledge imbalance due to the extreme age difference her and all of the other fae. My only issue with this book is the same I had with the first one, the partial world building. The author beautifully describes the people and the environment but only partially. This was still an enjoyable read and I look forward to the next book in the series. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Keira has mastered her powers, she has found the dragons and on a mission to save her brother and the world!
The amount of times I was smiling so much I couldn’t hide it and people were staring as I was reading this!!
She redirects water from a Reservoir and redirects lava to save Veyrik’s dominion!! This girl kicks ass with a damn smile on her face!
The training session with the Umbral Legion was hilarious!
Seeing Keira and Soren have a spat brings the love plot back to the ‘human level’ of relationship and that being soul-bound doesn’t mean you don’t disagree or argue and it’s not a ‘I’m in love, nothing can ever go wrong’ situation.
I AM OBESSED!!! I cannot get enough of these characters and story. Im already itching for book 3 to see what happens next from this cliff hanger at the end of two. Kiera's story is one I feel I can relate with as her character grows and evolve through the story.Although she would not have gotten there without many others helping her through her story. The fierce magic, beautiful connections, majestic creatures, and intense world just makes me want to drift into the pages and be apart of their journey. Or it may just be the witty banter between friends and lovers. This is beautifully written and I will be first in line for book 3.
Maybe my fav quote "The Lord of Doom and gloom" 😆🖤
Kiera’s story grew so much in this book. She’s had to prove herself over and over again, and I can only imagine the weight and pressure of carrying all of that. But through everything, she’s still fighting to hold on to what makes her Kiera...and I loved that so much!
I also loved seeing Soren and Kiera’s bond deepen, along with all the friendships and support she’s found along the way. And that ending?? I’m equal parts stressed, worried, and excited to see what happens in book 3 after that ending! So many thoughts running through my head....can't wait to fully process!!
💫chosen one prophecy 💫elemental magic 💫dragon gods 💫shadow Lord MMC 💫epic adventure fantasy 💫fated mates
A superb sequel to Withered By Shadows! I loved the development from book one to book two. Kiera has grown so much and seeing her journey of mastering the elements has been awesome.
The pacing in this novel was fantastic, everything felt like it happened when it needed to happen and there was plenty of build up in between events to let the reader get attached to the characters while we watch them fight to save their world.
And OH MY GOD THAT ENDING WTFFFFFFFFF (this is a compliment lol). Can't wait for book 3!!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Format:📱 I loved seeing Kiera’s growth in this one. She didn’t just become powerful out of nowhere. She actually had to train, struggle, and figure it out. You can really see the difference and it made everything feel more real.
And don’t even get me started on Veyrik and Soren… Loved their buddy/love/hate relationship!
Also… Soren?? Yeah that’s my shadow daddy 🖤 And the dragons?? I definitely have a favorite but I’m not saying anything because I don’t give spoilers 👀🐉
The cliffhanger was actually RUDE. Like excuse me?? I need book 3 immediately 😭
Ada Marlowe continues to deliver! I really enjoyed this book and I desperately wish I can access to the third book after that ending!
Without sharing spoilers, we leave off right where we started with Kiera continuing to work through what happened at the end of book 1. She is growing not only in her power but starts to accept and understand the role she has in the Prophecy.
I loved the development between some of the key characters like Soren, her family and other important rulers/enemies.
This series is great for someone who loves soul bonds, elemental magic, shadow magic, dragons, spice, humor and power. There's corruption, epic battles and insane power weaving strategies.
This is book 2 in the series and it reads just how book 1 did. There aren’t any plot twists or steamy scenes and basically she is just training and getting stronger the whole time. The biggest plot point is Soren omitting information and that causes turmoil in their relationship, which seems like it is going to still be a problem in the next book. There have also been hints that something might happen between her and Veyrik, but since she is soulbound with Soren I am not sure how to feel about that yet. Can’t wait to see how the story will ultimately end.
