Claimed by Choice

Eli Matsuda is invisible. He delivers mail in an office building and nobody remembers his name. His mother calls weekly to remind him he's not living up to his potential. Twenty-five years of being told he's not enough has made him an expert at expecting nothing.

Jonah Reeves notices him anyway.

The alpha consultant has been watching Eli for months — the careful routine, the shy stammer, the sharp mind that only comes alive when he talks about horror movies. When Jonah starts bringing him coffee every morning, Eli doesn't know what to do with someone who keeps showing up.

Then a spilled latte, a locked conference room, and a shirtless moment change everything.

But when Eli's mother asks "What does a man like that want with a man like you?", her words land exactly where they always land. And Eli starts to close the door that Jonah has been patiently holding open.

Jonah doesn't fix what's broken. He just refuses to leave.

No fated mates. No accidents. Just two people choosing each other — and a claiming bite that's earned, not owed.

ok this was very sweet and cute, had a nice time

thoughts n feelings:
-writing was weird. some good lines, some decent dialogue, but SO much telling and not showing and a lot of repetition. unfortunately, there's a lot of shit talk in the reviews about potential AI involvement in writing this book and I do see what they mean as many of the hallmarks of AI writing are in use here, but they're also things that could just be human so I genuinely don't know. but I will say the tone and writing style is almost identical to a different book by a different author that ALSO has AI allegations, so...do with that what you will. also the covers DO look like AI, and they've released like 15 books in the past year which makes me squint.
-the other thing that makes me feel weird is the goodreads descriptions of these books (like every single one in the series) all have egregious typos. like sentences that just simply are not finished or grammar that is so abysmal I can't tell what the sentence was trying to say. and that's the SUMMARY, like that's supposed to be the snapshot of your book that makes me want to read it, so it's just not a great start for it to be a dumpster fire.
-HOWEVER, I did genuinely like this and had a really nice time reading it. Jonah and Eli are so fucking sweet together and I really liked watching their relationship take shape. I also liked that the third act conflict wasn't as annoying as I expected -- some authors love to lean on a third act conflict that relies on hurting the characters or breaking them up unnecessarily or miscommunication and I HATE that, and that was not the case here which I liked.

TLDR: sweet, cute, not the best writing but digestible, overall enjoyable, but possibly AI?????

This book is my favorite of the series. It's a story about a couple who slowly come together and date due to mutual interest; it's a story about how being quieter doesn't mean you're invisible and how someone can still choose you. They dated for a while and even shared one of those sexless, presence and caring only, heats during that first month, and then several weeks later, the shy omega who hadn't thought he was worth anything for so long asked his alpha boyfriend for forever, for a claiming bond. The story was sweet and occasionally amusing, and I enjoyed it.

Best in Series!

I’ve read the three previous books in this series and they were all great reads. This book to me is the best so far! Eli and Jonah’s relationship progressed through an emotional jungle. River Thorne did an incredible and credible job of showing the effects of Eli’s lifelong emotional battering! Seeing Jonah’s persistent and present choices to see Eli as he truly was and not the frightened image that he projected was incredible. Enjoy!
