Bound and Determined #2.5

Sarah's Surrender

Rate this book
In Lavinia Kent’s scorching new eBook original novella, two wounded hearts find that only the sweet release of temptations long denied can heal the pain of past sins.

Five years ago, Miss Sarah Swilp had been deeply in love with Jonathan Perry, the second son of an earl. But when Jonathan inherited his aunt’s lands and money, he turned cold, demanding Sarah’s maidenhood and uttering those unforgettably cruel “You do know I won’t marry you.” She refused, of course, and that spoiled everything. Now, just as she’s agreed to a marriage of convenience, Jonathan reappears—and after Sarah gets one look at his lean, hard body, the embers of desire burst back into flame.

Over time, Jonathan has learned quite a bit about the art of pleasure—though nothing has ever given him so much joy as the husky timbre of Sarah’s laugh. It had hurt to leave her, but what other choice did he have? Perhaps he’d been too afraid of ending up like his brother, targeted by a woman seeking a title. Seeing her again, Jonathan can’t help wondering what might have been if only Sarah had surrendered to red-hot lust. Fortunately, judging by the wicked look in her eyes, it may not be too late to find out.

Sarah’s Surrender is intended for mature audiences. Don’t miss a preview of the next novel in the Bound and Determined series, Ravishing Ruby.

I live in Washington, DC with my husband, kids, two cats and a changing menagerie of other small beasts.

I worked in both the arts and in the business world before giving into my love of story telling after the birth of my oldest -- although it wasn't until after the birth of my youngest when I suddenly had full-time childcare that it all came together for me.

I love discussing books -- almost any books at any time.

One of my great joys is having my children get old enough that we can all read the same things and talk. I am so happy that YA is the flourishing world that it is.

And of course I love Romance. I started back with Kathleen Woodiwiss and Johanna Lindsay and have never given them up since -- although there were a few slow spots along the way.

My first historical erotica read but definitely not my last. Lavinia Kent is a master of steam, and this book will have you hot and bothered from the very start.

** I received an advanced readers copy of this book from Loveswept via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!**

At only 96 pages it is hard to say anything about this novella that the synopsis doesn't already say. Basically, in my opinion, the big story happens before this novella begins. I think I would have enjoyed a book that was completely about their past together. Sarah and Jonathan had a shared history that ended badly and when Sarah saw Jonathan five years later she wished to fulfill her fantasies with him before agreeing to marry a man that she did not love.

This novella is mostly about the two of them coming together at Madame Rouge's. What can I say other than it gets hot. I'm talking pages and pages of between the sheets, in the pillows, on the floor and in the chair hot and sexy action. Mixed in with all the pillow talk there was plenty of blame being thrown around over their past which did hinder my enjoyment ever so slightly. Accusations, name calling and general immaturity are not sexy qualities. Am I the only one that found it slightly odd that Sarah kept falling asleep?

In the end, Sarah's Surrender is a sweet and sexy, quick and easy novella that is sure to entertain. I have only read one other book in this series and both can be read as a stand alone. The common thread is Madame Rouge's.

What to say ? Sweet Sarah Swilp is going to have to agree to marry Mr Meyes, a man her fathers age and a creditor of her fathers . Not only is this a bad night because her last hope has just proposed to another leaving her no other choice, but the one man she loved and broke her heart five years ago, Jonathan ; show up on this very night .
The draw she feels to him is undeniable even after being hurt all those years ago, but he is still bitter over how they came to an end to spite that his own statement elicited her reaction.
However once these two kiss the sparks fly and have Sarah considering giving herself to Jonathan after all these years, before she is stuck in a marriage that she does not want. With an older man she has no desire for.
With decisions made and plans arranged. And Jonathan very much in charge of the nights sexual explorations this book gets hot and spicy quickly so have your fan ready. What happens when you take a virgin to a house of ill repute and to a reserved private room filled with draws of toys....... One hell of a life changing night!

A short, sexy , spicy hot novella with an overall sweet story that is close to impossible to put down.

Short ~ Sweet ~ Historical smuttiness ... check, check, cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeck! lol

Do not be fooled by the shortness of this story. It packs a heart-wrenching punch! You will be glued to the story and will not put it down till the end. You will get your naughty hotness, as you always do with Lavinia Kent, but your heart is going to hurt for Johnathon and Sarah, both. They've met before. Five years ago. They were young. But now they aren't ..... They each have a past of their own. Their own crosses to bear, but only ONE future to share. It's a lovely story, told very quickly but yet so very well!

Kudos and props to Lavinia Kent!!!

I received a copy of this title to read and review for Wicked Reads

5 stars for the first 60%
3 stars for the last 40%
4 stars overall.

I have a love/hate relationship with this series, and I mean that in the best way possible. "Why can't I quit you?" I was asked to review this title after swearing it off, and I caved when its allure dragged me back in.

The Bound and Determined novellas baffle me. In the beginning half of each of the novella, I'm passing out the rarely given 5 star. I fall madly in lust with the story, ready to give it my virtue, and when I wake in the morning I'm filled with regrets and no ring on my finger.

Okay. Enough metaphors.

Lavinia Kent has a way with her words, her writing style, where it pulls me right in from page one. Her characters are relate-able and likable, even if you didn't like them in previous titles. As soon as they narrate their stories you're on their team. I respect that ability in a writer.

I can't explain the following. There is nothing I can pinpoint. I will be in mad-lust with the book, and something shifts, drags a bit, like I felt it should have ended by now, even with its so few pages. In Sarah's Surrender's case, I was way into it, but when the 'action' was interrupted by hate BJs and endless angsty miscommunication chat, and then they explained their reasons for their initial separation for pages on end, the grip lessened and its hold on me was gone. Then the last 30% was sex scene after sex scene with relationship chat interrupting the good parts.

While I could empathize with Jonathan (to a point), Sarah was wholeheartedly correct in how she felt about what happened in their past. She could explain that until she was blue in the face(and she did), and he was NOT going to understand. I still don't buy that he understood by book's end. Which infuriated me, considering the time and age this was set, Sarah's reasons were shoved down both boys and girls' throats from birth. If he hadn't explained, and explained, and beat his explanation like a dead horse, I could have overlooked it and went on my merry way. But it dragged the pacing down. "We get it already!" Following that was a bunch of redundant sex scenes that if they hadn't been one after the other they would have held my attention. But in that moment, it lessened the emotional impact and made it less in my eyes. Yet again losing me as a reader.

Yes, I recommend this series.
Yes, against my better judgment, when I'm asked to review the next, I'll hem and haw but I'll give in. & just like every other toxic relationship, I'll be hoping things change.

When a single glance across a crowded ballroom brings Sarah Swilp face to face with Johnathan Perry; she is immediately reminded of all the things that she both loves and hates about the man.
More importantly however, she is reminded of all the things that she desires.

Yes, as much as it pains her to admit. Even a heartbreaking spat between the two and five years of separation, with nary a word exchanged, has done little to quench the flames of unchecked passion that burn only for him.

Her dilemma...

Both he and she are slated to be wed to others. He, to the young and very well heeled Miss Bliss.
She, to the much older Mr. Meyers.
Adding insult to injury in her case, is the fact that hers is far from a love match. It seems that she has, for all intents and purposes, been sold to the man in exchange for the repayment of her father's gambling losses and other debts.

With mere days left before her betrothal to Mr. Meyers becomes official, and mere feet standing between herself and her heart's greatest yearning. Sarah knows that the time has come to choose. One night of bliss or an entire life filled with want.

Though the premise of this tale leaves a bit to be desired at the outset. (The bits preceding the sex, to be exact.)
The descriptive nature of authoress Kent's prose coupled with the intense longing that seems to radiate from the pages of every scene that the two share, turn reader attention away from the rather lack-luster beginning.
While sex rules this read, there are also plenty of surprise realizations, revelations, and recriminations being tossed back and forth between the two between orgasms.

As is often the case with Historical Romance, Sarah plays the untried ingenue, to Johnathan's worldly plunderer.
Borderline kink with a BDSM bent for Mr. Perry prefaces a rather abrupt, but well deserved 'happily...'

Usually I am not for novellas but this one was good, really good because it took place in a very restricted timeframe so it worked for me!
It’s the 2.5th part of a series called “Boud and Determind” by Lavinina Kent. Anyway, I didn’t know the writer nor was the cover in any way Victorian – it’s a nice cover but it doesn’t fit the timeframe of the story in my opinion.
Sarah needs to marry for money because her father is a gambler, so she wants one night of pleasure, one night to know how it would feel like. Jonathan, once her sweetheart, is now a rich rake who inherited a lot of money, money that obviously changed him in Sarah’s opinion. Years ago he told her that he would never marry her, even if she gives him her maidenhood – it was the reason why she left.
Now she has to accept a marriage proposal form a man, who could be her father, somebody who her father owed money to. She meets Jonathan and offers him the only thing she has to give – one night without relations.
The series’ title already says it – it’s a BDSM story but I’d say rather light if you are used to Kate Pearce novels. It was highly erotic and romantic too. Kent has a way with words that make you read and read even at 2am in the morning just to know how it might end.
For a novella it was very, very well done – character development, storyline, timeframe fit, good dialogues and no rush in narration.
Rating: 5*****

Sarah's surrender has a dom/sub relationship with very light BDSM touches.Lavinia Kent proposes a sexy historical story of second chances, the blurb really caught my attention. It can be read as a stand alone.

Sarah and Jonathan were apart for five years but seems like Jonathan never grew up emotionally. They talk as their break up was a big misunderstanding, but what actually happened is that they weren't ready for marriage. The couple has a great chemistry together, however, I had a bad time trying to like Jonathan. He’s incredibly selfish and not the least sensitive about her - mainly when they had their first time together The last sex scenes were good but I had my issues with their first encounter.

I was curious and wanted to see where the story would go. The problem is that by the end of the story I still saw him as “an ass and an idiot”, though now I understood his reasons I still couldn't forgive him like the heroine did. I sensed some desperation to loose Sarah to another, but the realization they were in love with each other was obscured by the sex scenes. In my opinion this was one of those cases of too many sex scenes! Overall, it was a nice fast paced novella with enjoyable moments. A hot read for your weekend.

Sarah's Surrender is part of the Bound and Determined Series by Lavinia Kent and although it can standalone, its best appreciated when the previous books especially Bound in Bliss is read first. Like the previous books, the main couples sexual encounter is all done at Madame Rouge's which is like a modern BDSM club. Sarah and Jonathan were young lovers once but meeting again 5 years later after their separation seems fated. For Sarah has resigned herself to marrying for money to pay off her father's gambling debt (what else) the very thing Jonathan has thought her to be. But now Sarah is determined to be Jonathan's lover once and for all even for one night before her decision to accept the marriage proposal of a man old enough to be her father. So this is essentially erotica with BDSM elements set in Victorian England and while Sarah and Jonathan were quite complex characters and the story quite short everything clicked into place due in fact to the excellent writing. The sex scenes were steamy, the dialogue quite heartbreaking but this makes the HEA quite sweet.

Sarah’s Surrender (Novella) A Bound and Determined Novella by Lavinia Kent.
This is the first time reading this author and I want to read more. First of all, this is a Hot Steamy Erotic Historical Romance, I didn’t know they did stuff like that back then. I felt like the writing was awesome and the story line was fantastic. I loved meeting Sarah Swilp and could understand how she felt, the love of her live left her and now he is back and she is supposed to marry another man, someone she doesn’t really want to marry but has to.
All she needs and wants is one night of passion with Jonathan, and it brings everything back, including his feeling towards her. I don’t normally read erotica, but I felt the story line was really interesting. Will Sarah marry the man of her dreams or the man that her Father wants her to marry? What will this one night stand do to her? You will need to read this great book to find out.
I did receive an advanced ARC for an honest opinion.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

I have enjoyed all the books in this series, and this lovely little novella is a great addition to the set.

We have met Sarah before, and heard of her woeful life due to her gambling father, and are too well aware that she deserves better. Now that we get her story it is even clearer that she is the victim of a great, yet foolish wrong. She is however pragmatic and resourceful - characteristics that will serve her well!

This is a delightful, sexy read, with a lovely ending - I recommend it to you.

The book cover is not historical. I deducted one star for that. I also feel the story was quite stunted as things progress very quickly from physics to a proposal. Jonathan tells Sarah, he won't marry her and walks away from her. After five years he returns and tells her he was testing her. ??? I didn't like the hero at all. This book could have been better, but I like this author's work and will wait for more historicals.

I have mixed feelings about this book. Although it is well written, I had problems with the plot and the flow of the story. That's not to say that I did not enjoy it, it;s just that I wanted more - plus the story just ended before it even started!. Sarah's Surrender is an e-novella that follows right after the second book Bound by Bliss and centers on the jilted fiance, Sarah Swilp.

THE MAIN CHARACTERS

Sarah is in a bind. She is already bound for spinsterhood and her family has money problems and she has to marry fast. Recently jilted, she is now forced to accept a proposal from her father's partner who is about her father's age. Of course, she hides scars deep within herself and is mostly a wallflower. Now, what I didn't like about Sarah is that she is just too timid. Sure, she actually grew some balls and demanded for what she wanted but I still thought that she was too timid. Well, the reason for her behavior could be explained by being hurt by her OTL Jonathan five years ago.

Jonathan Perry, Sarah's OTL, left her five years ago and swore never to marry her at all. Now, I really had problems with him as the hero. I know that he had his reasons but I thought what he did to Sarah was just too callous and underhanded and did not have any basis at all (IMHO, anyway). So he returns to London and is surprised to see his love (so he says) Sarah to be a totally different woman. I also had problems with the way he dealt with Sarah and I still believe that in the end, he didn't really love her at all.

THE PLOT

This book is a novella and it really read like one. At less than 100 pages, it was a very, very quick read for me. To be honest, I had difficulty getting into the story at all. I think the plot suffered a lot because of the shortness of the story. The characters weren't well developed - heck, their love wasn't well developed at all. In fact, I still think that the two main characters weren't really in love with each other but they were in lust. The story basically happens within 3 days (with only 2 nights being the sole focus of the plot). There was a lot of scorching sexy-times but I think it didn't help the plot other than cementing the fact that Sarah and Jonathan were in list with each other.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

This novella had potential, I thought. If only the characters were well fleshed out, and most importantly, the romance was done really well, I would have enjoyed this novella. I have read all the books in this series, including the novellas and I think this one was the worst of all.

RECOMMENDATIONS

You may want to read the first two books in the series: Mastering the Marquess & Bound by Bliss. The novella Revealing Ruby can also give you a short teaser for the next full length book in the series: Ravishing Ruby.

If you're like me who enjoy historical romances with a loot of scorching sexy-times, read books by Jess Michaels. If you haven't read her before, I suggest starting with Taken by the Duke (Pleasure Wars #1). This review was originally posted on I Heart Romance & YA

photo ARC REVIEW_zps2snz3i0j.jpg About the book:
Sarah Swilp is a young, beautiful girl that comes from a good and respected family.
Her father has gambled away most of the fortune they had and they are on the bridge of losing even their home because of his debts.
That would cause a great embarrassment to their family especially to her mother who did nothing to deserve this awful situation their father put them in.
She has no other choice then to finally accept her father's friend proposal and in that way escape this financial disaster and to keep their family in the respected eyes of the society.
She hated even the idea to marry someone as old as her father and nothing feeling love nor attraction to the person, but she had to do it, nothing more to it.

Just when she said yes to her father's friend who basically ignores her as soon as she uttered the words and treats her like she was worth nothing something happened.
Someone from her past shows up that changes things for Sarah.

Her first, her only love Jonathan is back in town, after 5 years of missing in action.
His family was already rich and famous beyond all means, but while he was away he got even richer.
They were deeply in love and she believed with all her being that one day they would marry and live happily ever after.
One night Jonathan wanted something from Sarah, a piece of her that only he would have.
His demand was to have her virginity no strings attached.
She would gladly give it to him when he already had her heart and soul, but then he uttered the words that broke her spirit forever.
"I will never marry you Sarah" he said. And that's how their love story came to an end.
Sarah went home heartbroken and Jonathan left town the very next day without a single word.

Now when Sarah was to marry someone she didn't love, didn't even liked for that matter she wanted her first time to be with someone who still had her heart in his hands and awaken desire and lust in her mind and body.
She suggest Jonathan that they would have one night of passion and then part ways once again.
So what happens next? Do they just do it and say goodbyes?
Do old flames and passion come to life again?
Read this story and see how it all ends yourself ;)

My review:
This story was intriguing from the very start and I read it in a heartbeat.
For every line I read I wanted to find out how will this play out between former lovers that obviously didn't need much to rekindle their passion.
I love a good love story that gets to my heart and this one sure did just that.
Even if it was set in a different time then ours today it still had some awesome sex scenes filled with passion and desire that was almost impossible to tame.
We get to met a hot dominant man that knows what he wants and how to get it.
A girl that is a virgin but still manages to take order like a professional.
Language was a bit different than in most of the books we read today but it was necessary to go along with the time frame of the book.

I would recommend this short story!
I would have loved to read a nice epilogue as well, which I missed a little bit here.

After years apart, Sarah comes face to face with the man she loved with all her heart and was ready to give herself to, until he uttered the heat-breaking words: "You do know I won't marry you." Right in the middle of a hot and heavy makeout session that was swiftly moving into more he cynically points out that he will never marry her, even if she gives him her virginity and all of the love she holds in her heart. Little does Jonathan realize that an unmarried woman of the time, especially one with a debt-ridden, wastrel of a father, has nothing if she does not have her honor and her maidenhead. Although Jonathan intended the statement as a test of Sarah's love, it's one that Sarah could never have passed.

Five years after that night, Sarah is now a pale, disillusioned version of the vibrant, laughing girl Jonathan once loved. Those feelings of inferiority and unworthiness that Jonathan stirred have grown along with her family's dept. Her last chance at marrying and having a family of her own means wedding one of her father's friends and she has resigned herself to that fate when she encounters Jonathan at a ball. Despite years of silence and all the feelings of anger and resentment they each harbor in their hearts, the desire they once felt is sparked to life again when they're in each others presence.

Deciding that she deserves a night of passion like the ones she's always dreamed of before formally accepting the proposal, Sarah makes her own proposition - one night for Jonathan and Sarah to finally have the passionate encounter they always wanted. Though Jonathan is reluctant at first believing Sarah might be attempting to trap him into marriage, the two meet and share a night of seduction where Jonathan's darker fantasies are exposed. The two also discuss that long ago night and their true feelings come to light.

Though there is a lot of built up anger and resentment clouding their feelings for one another, Sarah and Jonathan are incredibly hot together. There's tons of dirty talk to ignite the sex scenes in the novel and when their real feelings are revealed it's a very cathartic and uplifting moment. It was interesting to see both sides of the story and how they each let their pride dictate their actions. I really loved these two together although it's so sad that they could have had years together if not for a miscommunication on their part.

I truly applaud Lavinia Kent's ability to bring such a wide spectrum of emotions out of her characters and to invoke that same kind of emotional response in her readers as they experience the heroine's struggles. If you're looking for an erotic historical romance with lots of powerful, stirring emotion, SARAH'S SURRENDER is definitely one to check out. It's not a very long read but it sure is a satisfying one.

"You do know I won't marry you."

FINAL DECISION: I am a fan of Kent's but this novella was not my favorite. I never really got over my annoyance with how the characters had acted five years earlier. On the plus side, the story was very sexy and well paced especially for a novella.

THE STORY: Sarah Swilp was in love with Jonathan Perry five years ago when he inherited a fortune and turned cold toward her. He told her that he would never marry her but wanted to sleep with her. She was devastated and turned away from him. Five years later, Sarah has become resigned to marrying the man her father wants in order to settle the family's debts. Just at that moment, Jonathan comes back into her life and Sarah decides that she might want a night with the only man she has wanted before accepting the future that is set out for her.

OPINION: Kent brings a raw earthy sexuality to her characters that is enjoyable. This novella is no different. The characters work out their relationship primarily through their sexual encounter which also includes finally talking to one another. That is the problem with the novella. Jonathan's treatment of Sarah five years earlier is terrible and despite his explanation, it never felt excusable to me. Because of the length of the novel, we do not get to see how Jonathan is scarred by his brother's experience and thus his explanation never has any weight behind it. To me, he comes off as a jerk and I am not sure how Sarah could actually forgive him.

Despite that, however, the relationship between Sarah and Jonathan works in the present time. The two obviously have chemistry and a connection to one another. I enjoyed the novella, but it just wasn't as good as the other stories in the series.

I recommend reading another book in the series instead and keeping this novella as a sweet side treat.

WORTH MENTIONING: I would recommend that readers try one of the Bound and Determined novels (rather than this novella) first.

CONNECTED BOOKS: SARAH'S SURRENDER is book 2.5 of the Bound and Determined series. It is only tangentially connected with the series and can be read as a standalone.

STAR RATING: I give this book 3 stars.

NOTE: I received an ARC of this book through Netgalley in order to provide a review. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions contained herein are my own.

The second in this series I have read, the first being a full-length novel, and we are again returning to the world of Lavinia Kent’s creation. Sarah had been utterly in love with Jonathan years ago until his unexpected inheritance and unbelievable cruelty pushed her away. She’s been (we are told) reeling from that ever since, unwilling to enter into another relationship that will challenge her emotions.

Now engaged to a man who can erase her father’s debts, Sarah is convinced that love is eluded her forever. She takes a chance for one night of pure passion, with Jonathan, before she subjugates herself to a life she believes will be less than satisfactory.

Jonathan is now older, and has learned from his mistakes. Or so he says. But he can’t forget the Sarah he knew, even as he believes she can never be what he needs as a mate. In one respect, this is a lovers reunited story, but in many ways, their connection was fragile and only felt remotely plausible to me during their play at Madame Rouge’s club.

Dialogue took the place of expanding on characterization and was meant to increase empathy as they traded tales of woe. While in some respects this worked for me, there were so many other moments where a word, or touch, could highlight the tenuous connection that was slowly gathering strength, and then the conversation added yet another element. Extra moments, issues and scenes became extraneous and crowded the story, even if the the repetition of interior monologues so common in Bound and Determined is not as prevalent. While the title felt as if it was edited down to novella length, it didn’t quite go far enough, in my opinion, as so many elements and issues for the characters crowded the field.

Societal expectations are, as expected in an erotic title, ignored for the most part, and it works for this series, but the lack of focus on how the characters were built and presented just didn’t work for me.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Miss Sarah Swilp is caught in a bind. Her father wants her to marry his "friend", Mr Meyers, an old goat willing to pay off some outstanding gambling debts. Sarah had her eyes on another possibility, but that gentleman is now engaged to someone else. Then there is her one true love, a childhood companion who she assumed would be her life partner. Only he had made it clear that their union would not include a marriage proposal. After her refusal to his terms, he had abruptly left town. Five years later, he makes his appearance on this very night, at Lord Carrington's Ball. Before agreeing to a predetermined marriage arrangement, a sacrifice she must make to keep herself and her mother from the poorhouse, Sarah realizes that she deserves to have one night of passion. She decides to give her virginity to the only man she ever loved, Mr Jonathan Perry. Sarah knows her current pallid appearance doesn't compare to her youthful buoyancy as a nineteen year old, yet she needs to determine if he still wants her in his bed. Hopefully he will accept her gift now even though she had refused him in her youth. Jonathan still harbors feelings of desire for his former neighbor. Despite his fear of being caught in a compromising position, he follows her into the garden. Then he does things which would truly bring her disgrace if they were caught. The next evening he takes her to Madame Rouge's House for Gentlemen of Taste for a night neither will ever forget. The reader also will enjoy their titillating love making as Jonathan indulges his need for domination and Sarah discovers that, in the bedroom, it is extremely satisfying to submit.

The novella Sarah's Surrender by Lavnia Kent is a sweet little Regency Romance with a bit of a story and a lot of erotic stimulation. This is Book 2.5 in the Bound and Determined series featuring Ruby and the patrons at her discreet London brothel. Four stars.

"He'd looked at her as if she were all he'd ever wanted, all he'd ever need. She'd been his whole world. Or so she'd thought. He'd certainly been hers."

Historical Romances are a weakness of mine and this one has just been added to my favorites list!

I was instantly sucked into Sarah and Jonathan's story! I mean who doesn't love a rekindled romance?!

These two went through a bad breakup five years prior and because of that, they have always been scared of future relationships.

All it took was one look. One chance meeting. Everything came flooding back and there was no stopping them this time.

"I admit I would very much like a sculpture of what I see before me. I could spend hours contemplating such beauty."
"Pshaw. And no matter how long you stare the sculpture is not going to change."
"But I can be sure this moment lives always in my memory."

You felt compassion for Sarah and the feelings she has harbored for all these years. She's no longer the young girl she once was.

Jonathan left under the wrong circumstances, but he can't deny his feelings for Sarah any longer. He has to have her...if only for one night.

You could feel the heat off these two through the pages! This was one sexy, little novella! Grab a fan and get ready for the things that come out of that man's mouth! Wowza!!

"He loved the way any little mark showed, the way the story of the night lay in delicate smudges and bruises. And he loved...he loved her all. Sarah was perfection."

This was my first Lavinia Kent book and it won't be my last! I truly enjoyed every single part of this story!

Very well done!

"The world slowed, stopped, froze. Here. Now. There was nothing else. Jonathan. It had always been Jonathan and now it seemed it always would be."

One of the ways in which novellas can be effective is if the reader is dropped in medias res, with the character working though a previous history. I am usually more forgiving of tropes in a novella than I would be in a full novel, especially in when the book is in the hands of a talented writer and Lavinia Kent is a good writer with a great skill in regards to character motivation. Even if you don't agree with characters actions, you mostly understand why they behave the way they do.

Miss Sarah Swilp and Jonathan Perry, a second son, were deeply in love when Jonathan inherited a fortune. In a cruel test of that love, Jonathan demanded that Sarah sleep with him and when she refused, he left her behind. 5 years have passed since they have met and Sarah is about to enter into a loveless marriage of convenience. In an attempt to remove her regrets, Sarah propositions Jonathan for one night of passion prior to her marriage.
Jonathan never got over Sarah. He sincerely felt that Sarah loved him and was devastated when she refused to sleep with him prior to marriage. He views the proposition as an opportunity to finally het her out of his system for good.
One of the reasons that I found this storyline bearable is that once they communicate with each other, Sarah is able to rub Jonathan's assumptions and privilege in his face. Having grown up as a male Jonathan had powerful viewpoint and Sarah in a much more vulnerable position than Jonathan had much less options and she communicates her powerlessness and fragility to him in such and effective manner.

Again, if this were a full blown novel, I would probably have more issues with the work but its short format is surprising effective and worthy of an hour or two.

** I received an eARC of this book from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review **

I really enjoyed this installment of the series. It is short, but it doesn't feel rushed and the author gives us enough of Sarah and Jonathan's past to make the story believable.

I really liked these two - they had a falling out 5 years ago and haven't seen or spoken to each other since. They meet again on the night Sarah has finally decided to accept a marriage proposal to a friend of her father. She sees Jonathan and decides before she takes that step - she will have the night they were denied 5 years ago.

Jonathan has been angry at Sarah for all those years - he said some stupid things that night - but felt that he was the one wronged and betrayed. He is hesitant to spend the night with Sarah, thinking she might be trying to trap him into marriage. But of course lust wins out and he agrees.

Jonathan (like all the heroes in the other books - except Derek)likes to be in control - yet, of the three heroes with Dominant tendencies, he is the mildest.

Sarah is insecure, her break with Jonathan really damaged her self esteem and she isn't the same vivacious girl she was 5 years ago. Submitting to Jonathan is not easy for her - but it feels so right.

I think the best part of the book was when these two actually spoke about the past - they both had misunderstandings and at the time neither was willing to give the other the benefit of the doubt.

I thought this was a very well done second chance at love story with some very steamy love scenes. I would definitely recommend this book.

I didn’t pay too much attention that this was a novella until I started reading it. It may be a short story, but it was packed full of heat and emotion. At first, I thought this would be one of those novels where the protagonists are pig-headed and constantly misinterpreting each other, but was pleasantly surprised by when that wasn’t the case. Of course there was a misunderstanding, one that stemmed from childish selfishness, but I was pleased to read how the characters handled it and how they grew as people.

There was little plotline to the story, but I feel that for this story, it was just right. There didn’t need to be some grand adventure for the characters. I did feel, however, that the story just cut off at the end. There was no cliffhanger but it still felt unresolved. I would have liked another chapter or at least an epilogue to see how things truly turned out instead of the reading assuming.

The author also wrote some erotic scenes. I like my historical erotic to be erotic and different from the usual scenes you find in historical romance. The scenes were tamer than I usually read, but fit with the theme and feel of the novel. In certain places, however, she would write in short staccato sentences. Sometimes this was distracting and took away from the heat of the scene. In one part, it was downright annoying because of the number of said sentences. They did not take away from the novel as a whole, however, and I often found myself swept away in the passion of the characters.

This was the first piece I have ever read from the author and I enjoyed enough to seek out her other works.

***3.5 out of 5 stars***

I’ve enjoyed each of the stories in the Bound and Determined series so far and was excited to read Sarah’s Surrender. Sarah’s Surrender is a novella length story, so it is a really fast read.

I really liked both Sarah and Jonathan in Sarah’s Surrender. Sarah is being forced to marry a man her father’s age to get him out of debt, but wants one night with Jonathan before she has her choices taken away. I felt like Sarah was really a much stronger person than how she presented herself to the public.

The attraction between Sarah and Jonathan is evident from the moment they first see each other across the room after 5 years. In fact, when they are together, my kindle screen steamed up every single time. I loved how dominant Jonathan is and how Sarah responds as she submits. Sarah is a virgin before she and Jonathan are together for the first time and her innocence about what she enjoys was refreshing. I loved she was so curious about every single aspect of their lovemaking.

When Jonathan and Sarah finally discuss their past, the passionate way Sarah reacts made me like her even more. Jonathan truly put her in a lose/lose situation and she has no problem vehemently defending herself. I loved that even 5 years later, it was obvious that both Sarah and Jonathan still loved one another.

Sarah’s Surrender was a really fast read for me. I do wish there was more of a resolution between Sarah, her father and Mr. Meyers, but overall I enjoyed the story.

Very good! Five years ago, Sarah was in love with Jonathan, she was ready to consummate their love, but cruelly Jonathan told her he would never marry her. Sarah didn't want to be ruined and disgraced so she didn't sleep with him and he left town.
Sarah's circumstances are much reduced in the last five years, her father needs her to marry a man who will take care of his debts, but she wears hand-me-down gowns and can't attract a suitor. She decides that it is inevitable that she will have to marry her father's friend just to save her family, then she sees Jonathan. Sarah decides that she will see if he still wants one night with her, one night for herself, to feel passion before she has to marry a man she doesn't want.
Jonathan is shocked when he sees Sarah, she has changed, she has lost the spark that he loved. He was hurt by her five years ago when she responded to him with angry words and he is still angry with her. When Sarah propositions him, he doesn't trust her but decides to see how far she will go.
This novella was really hot, hot enough to burn up my Kindle, but has a very sweet love story. Sarah was very hurt by Jonathan in ways he didn't understand and couldn't imagine, but it is refreshing that she talked about her hurt and stood up for herself. Each story in this series has been fantastic!

Lavinia Kent is a recent discover for me. I really like her erotic Regency series and this novella is no exception. Despite having read the previous books in the series, I truly had no idea who Sarah was or how she was tied to the previous characters. My best guess is that she had wanted to marry to last hero, which didn’t happen. This is a reunion story between Sarah and Jonathan. They were childhood friends and sweethearts. However, five years before, Jonathan had cruelly told Sarah he would never marry her, right before she was about to give him her virginity. Now, Jonathan has come home and Sarah is on the verge of agreeing to marry a man her father’s age. She decides she wants one night of sexual pleasure before she agrees to marry. And that Jonathan is the perfect person to give her that night. As this is a part of Kent’s erotic series, Jonathan takes her to Madame Ruby’s pleasure house for their night together. The sex between the couple is delicious and steamy as they address their previous hurts and the possibility of a future. Can’t wait for Lavinia Kent’s next book!

Sarah Swilp loved Jonathon. She was ready to give him her heart, soul and virginity. But just before that happened, he told her he would never marry her. Sarah was devastated, destroyed by the love of her life, and ranted in anger and heartbreak at Jonathon words she never remembered saying. Jonathon stormed from her life, and she didn’t see him for 5 years. Now she is set to marry a man she detests, but must to save the family from ruin. But she wants that night with Jonathon that never happened those years ago. So she propositions him. He agrees, he has no idea why, but he wants what he thought would always be his, Sarah.
Jonathon has discovered he likes control in the bedroom, and if Sarah agrees to that he is willing to fulfill her dream of her one and only night with him. Of course Sarah agrees but she finds she likes being controlled and told what to do and how to do it by him.
This is an erotic tale, and I was on the verge of tears many times reading this book. It is a tragic love between Sarah and Jonathon with so many misunderstandings. I believe I will find other books by Ms. Kent and read them. I enjoyed this one so much.

This is an Arc I received from the publisher and author through netgally. For an honest review. I have to say it was freaking perfect I don't normally read alot of books like this but this author has won me over with this series. It makes you feel apart of history I love seeing how things were so different in these times. Jonathan did frustrate me sometimes but he was just protecting himself. Sarah was just this beautiful heartbroken young lady trying her best to survive in the cruel times. The story just gives you kinda a magical feel and you get swept away by the story. My only complaint is that it was short. It doesn't matter though because you are a clever author and put everything in the story. I'm just being selfish and need more. So if you haven't read anything by this author please take my advice and grab this series. Even though this is a standalone but its better to read this authors stuff. This is book 2.5 in the Bound and Determined series.

Miss Sarah Swilp is about to agree to a marriage of convience. Before she does, she wants one lasting memory to keep with her. Propositioning the man that broke her heart five years ago, she offers herself up to him for one night of passion.

Thinking that Sarah was just after his money five years ago, he told her that he would never marry her. When she propositions him, he realizes that he has never gotten over the one woman that he fell in love with.

Can this one night of passion lead to a lifetime of happiness?

I enjoyed this story. It is a reunion story, which I always like. I is pretty short, but that doesn't take away from the story at all. Kent is able to convey all that needs to be said and done in this novella.

Hot and steamy, this series in not for the faint of heart!! If you are looking for a short red hot romance, this is the story for you!

Thanks go out to Random House via NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange of an honest review.

Sarah's Surrender Bound and Determined, #2.5) by Lavinia Kent is a Historical Erotic Romance.
Although this is a novella of about 90 pages, it is full of passion.
At one time Sarah was full of confidence in herself and her future. Then Jonathan left her. She lost faith in herself. Just as she has decided to marry a man she doesn't want to save her family from debt, Jonathan is suddenly back. She decides she deserves one night to have passion. One night for herself. She confronts Jonathan and tells him what she wants.
Sparks fly. Passion ignites. And everything changes.

“But I can be sure this moment lives always in my memory.”

Okay. Just wow. Can you imagine having someone say this to you?! Now that is a toe curler.
Ms. Lavinia Kent has a way of writing that sets you on fire. Beautifully written.
