What would you do if you discovered Guardian Angels are real?
Charlie and his parents had planned a fabulous summer vacation; the last one before he heads off to college. Things go mysteriously awry when the young man meets Clarisse; he finds himself separated from his parents and on a different sort of holiday.
Caught up in a strange adventure with the slender blonde, Charlie learns right away that things are not what they seem. She easily convinces him that her magical powers are real, and introduces him to a world mankind has only dreamt of. Promising to have him reunited with his family soon, the girl takes him on a gallery walk of life, using her abilities to give him a summer vacation he will never forget... and then again, may not even survive.

In this short read you will follow along with the characters as they discover things together. Paranormal short read in a series surely will grab your attention.
Over the last several months I have had the pleasure of getting to know this author through her Facebook fan group which I joined after meeting her at an FB author event and winning a swag pack from her for the release of her Avenged: Book 7 of a New Life Series 7th book in The New Life series. I have purchased the first 3 books in that series, but am almost embarrassed to admit I have not found time to start reading the series yet (but the teasers, synopses and reviews on the series look fantastic! I really am looking forward to learning Tori's tale.) When Ms. Jacobey announced the upcoming release of Summer Angel, I was thrilled to pick it up on release day as I knew I could find time to squeeze in a novella by this author I have become quite fond of between my other reading obligations much sooner than I can immerse myself in a series.
Yesterday I finally had the time to pick this one up and enjoy thoroughly while my daughter was at symphony practice. Don't let the short length fool you, Clarisse and Charlie are big characters who will leave a lasting impact in your literary experiences.
Charlie is in the summer after he graduates high school, before he heads off to college. His mom has talked/guilted him into one last summer vacation as a family. As his parents have become more estranged as the years go by, and he reasons that the college he will be attending is not THAT far away, he is not overly excited about the trip to Florida, but a blonde girl in a straw hat he runs into at the airport does intrigue him. Then Fate and Destiny intervene in the most unexpected ways.
As paranormal romances are not my first genre choice, I initially was going to give this a 4 star review, but upon further reflection of my general review criteria, there is no reason it doesn't deserve a full 5. It is beautifully written with very few grammatical/editorial errors - certainly not enough to take away from the story in any way. The two main characters are extremely well fleshed out, especially when you take into consideration the constraints of writing in a short story/novella format. I have read too many full length novels to count that haven't left me feeling as connected to the main characters as I do to Charlie and Clarisse, and all done in prosaic fashion. The heart of the story itself revolves around the age old battle of good versus evil. Things can get touchy when this is the core of a book, simply because it has been done so many times, in so many ways. Samantha has managed to master this one in both fantastic presentation and a truly unique spin. The pacing is quite good throughout; it is crucial not to let things lag in this format, but I imagine it is even more difficult to make sure there is not so much going on that motivations are lost. A definite 5 stars in this area as well.
This is a completely clean read, so no need to include any warnings. My highest recommendation to fans of paranormal romance, and those looking for a quick, mostly sweet read. By no means is it all sunshine and roses; it packs plenty of intrigue and the evil part of the good versus evil equation is certainly well represented. I see this one as a great read for a summer day on the beach, though I certainly enjoyed it waiting what seems endlessly for spring to arrive. I will definitely read further additions to this series, and it has left me more anxious than ever to delve into the darker side of the author's writing style.
"Summer Angel" by Samantha Jacobey is the kind of story that makes you question your beliefs in the afterlife and the spaces in between. Charlie is a soon to be college student that takes one last family trip with his family. He ends up with a very different adventure than was anticipated and ends up having to make a choice. One that can change his path forever, will he make the right choice?
I really enjoyed this short novella and the idea of the different planes of existence has always intrigued me. I like the characters and hope that she chooses to continue this series for a few more books.
Though I absolutely love Samantha's darker series, I was so glad to see her take a step into the paranormal world. Her writing style and character development are carried on into this story, and with it comes a lighter and airier feeling to her words.
There is a good vs. evil undertone to the story but the overall lesson is learning what is truly most important to you and finding out who you are and what you will do to be your best self. I cannot wait to see what comes next in this story, there is a whole big bad world that needs saving and Charlie and Clarisse make a great pair to take on the challenge.
Do not pass up this great novella at such a wonderful price.
What do you do when an author you love goes and writes a story in a genre you don't normally read? Well if your like me you'll have faith in the author and jump right in. So that's what I did with no regrets. I really enjoyed it.
Charlie and Clarisse are great characters. It's a short read so I'm not gonna say anything about the storyline.
Great paranormal romantic novella. Definitely worth a read. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
This was an interesting novella. It's about a young man, Charlie, who is taken on an unbelievable adventure, to another plane, which is parallel to our universe, with a Guardian Angel. In this other plane, there is the age old battle between good and evil. This battle occurs between Light Angels (aka Summer Angels) and Dark Angels that do the bidding of Fate and Destiny. Quite interesting. I will most likely go on to the next novella to see what happens.
This book was way beyond anything that I have ever read from Sam.... I really enjoyed it a LOT. I love the way Sam writes... she is so into creating her characters and details, makes you feel like you are sitting on that beach with Charlie and Clarisse.
I am excited to see where this story goes.. the ending was absolutely perfect!!!
This is a great novella! The writing is amazing and grabbed me from the beginning. The characters are well developed and believable. I felt I was right the with Charlie and Clarisse. This is her debut into the paranormal romance genre. I can't wait to read more.
Intriguing novella that shows an idea of what it's like as add a guardian angel.
Charlie was "rifted" at the airport in Florida when hit by a car. Clarisse seems to be a sweet girl though we quickly learn she's actually a Summer Angel, or guardian angel, who died when the Titanic sank.
Apparently there's two main forces fighting for dominance and power over the human world; Karma and Destiny, dark and light twins who each rule over their own angels. Keeper is the ultimate being that absorbs and recycles life energies/souls.
I felt like there's so much uncovered. What is Father hiding? Why is Gous so interested in both Charlie and Clarisse? What's the special magic? What will happen to Charlie after his decision?
Hopefully books two and on are full of the answers.
I thought this was really cute, and certainly a light, quick read!
Charlie and his parents are leaving their home in Texas to drive to the airport and fly to Florida for a two week vacation. Next thing you know, he's with a girl named Clarissa and they are suddenly in New York. As he questions her, he finds out that she is an Angel of Light (a Summer Angel) and she asks him if he believes in magic. Of course, like most of us, he believes in the trickery of magic. She says she'll teach him things he needs to know, such as about Dark Angels.
I like how they traveled all over the world. One second they're in NY, the next Germany, back to NY and London and all over (don't remember the order) the world.
No one EVER had a summer romance like this... The adventure of a lifetime... The battle of Summer Angels and Dark Angels... The fate of humanity is at risk... Charlie and Clarisse are at the centre of it... And there are forces that conspire to do more than simply keep the lovers apart...
An enjoyable, sweet and short read full of twists and turns; and romance.
Full of Summer Angels, Dark Angels, Guardian Angels, magic, adventure, twists and turns as well as a summer romance.
Summer Angel was a great quick read by Samantha Jacobey. This is the first book in the Summer Spirit Novellas. Charlie meets Clarisse during his vacation with his parents. He finds himself separated from his parents and finds out things aren't as he always thought they were. In this time he finds out that guardian angels are real. I can't wait to read more of this series.
3 1/2 stars. Well written, short story. Took me a while to warm to Charlie. I enjoyed this, and it does leave you with a few thoughts about the choices you make. I'm intrigued to see more from this series

REVIEW One of my favorite authors of Dark and Twisted books has now stepped into the paranormal genre. Let me say this was a fantastic short book about Light and Dark Guardian Angels.
Charlie is turning 18 and his parents want to take one vacation together before they lose their son. While at the airport Charlie runs into Clarisse. Well things go weird from that point. Charlie is thrust into the realm where guardian angels and Fate and Destiny rule things.
In the end Charlie must chose his fate. What does he choose?
This was a really good short story and I myself love anything to do with angels and paranormal. Way to go Samantha Jacobey you have managed to step into the world of paranormal with ease. Can’t wait to see what you give us next.
Charlie is your average high school graduate who can't wait to get away from mom and dad. But Charlie's parents insist on one more family vacation before he heads off to college. The family flies to Miami and a chance encounter with a cute girl changes everything. Charlie suddenly finds himself in the presence of a guardian angel or "Summer Angel" as they like to be called. This Summer Angel happens to be named Clarisse and has watched over Charlie for a long time. Clarisse shows Charlie what lies behind the veil. Charlie must decide if he wants to stay on the side of the veil with Clarisse or go back and live the life he was meant to live.
The story is a novella so it is a quick read. The story moves along at a fast pace which can make it hard to follow in some places. I wished the book was a little longer so some of the characters could have been developed more. Some of the characters felt like they were "plopped down" in the middle of the story to add volume. Overall, the book is well written and flows well
Charlie is a teen, who is about to go on a trip with his parents before he heads off to college. One minute Charlie's preparing for his trip, the next he's meeting the mysterious Clarisse, who is an angel. Clarisse takes Charlie on a journey to show him the world and give him a lesson in good and evil with the Light Angels and the Dark Angels. As their journey comes to an end, Charlie must decide whether to stay with Clarisse or return to his parents.
I loved Charlie and Clarisse's characters, I thought they were cute together and I liked how she responded to Charlie's questions as they went about their journey. As the end came to a near, I got a little emotional as Charlie had to make his difficult decision.
The book was a quick and easy read. I thought the author did a good job with this first book in the series and she leaves you wanting more. I'm looking forward to reading the next volume in the series to see what awaits Charlie and Clarisse.
Charlie Phillips is not looking forward to the family vacation. His parents have not been getting along and he really isn’t looking forward to spending the next two weeks in close quarters. Little did he know that the vacation would be a life changing one for them all. The question becomes, would he survive it?
The writing and flow of this story is what I have come to expect from this author – entertaining and always unexpected though the genre is a new one. Charlie seems to be your typical teenager with Clarisse providing the role of the beautiful ingénue. As the pages turned I quickly realized that this summer romance was going to be much more. Intriguing premise, twisty plot and an ending that has me eagerly looking forward to the next in the series.
Wow! This book is such a departure from what Samantha usually writes and it was well worth the wait!
Charlie Phillips is about to go reluctantly on summer vacation with his parents but all of a sudden nothing makes sense to him anymore when he meets Clarisse.
Clarisse must prove to Charlie that she is real and needs his help but is not yet sure of Charlie's real purpose!
A real page turner and it leaves you wanting the second book in a hurry!!
This is the first book in the A Summer Spirit series by Samantha Jacobey and the first one of Ms. Jacobey's books that I have read. I liked it. The book has a light hearted feel even though there is a good vs evil undertone to the book. The characters of Clarisse and Charlie are sweet and interesting. Add to that Guardian Angels. What more could you want. Give this book a try. You will really like it.

AWESOME.... rec'd the book in the mail today and I just wanted to read the prologue....it got me line hook and sinker.... I read it in one sitting..very easy read and smooth flowing..loved the characters and the storyline..I hope there is more to come from Charlie and Clarisse! I would be interested to read more from this story line...
4.5* Intriguing story that touches your emotions. I find myself torn between wanting to say more but not knowing how without giving to much away. Definitely worth reading! Although I'm left a little confused I'll be reading the next to see if my questions are answered!
This is the first of Samanthas books I own that I finally was able to sit down and read. I have to say this was different but I liked the parallel worlds of paranormal and real life featured here. I hate that it was so short so now I need to get books 2, 3,5,6 to be able to find out what happens.
I recieved an copy for an honest review by the author
Awesome book. Big change from what this author writes and nothing wrong with that. Love everything from Samantha. This book grabbed you in right at the beginning to very end. The ending didn't know how feel happy and sad at the sometime. Charlie had big decision to stay or go back. He did get to see how things worked on the other side of after death and see evil and good at the same time. He also got to meet his summer Angel Clarisse who helped him along the way. Can't wait for more.
