But she remains haunted by the absence of the child she never had. Then Maria appears – a wild, fiercely independent eight-year-old with a fractured family. Her arrival will open Victoria’s heart. It will also reopen the story of a girl who hid on the island during the war, and the man who risked everything to protect her. Initially I didn't realise at first that this book has the same characters as the previous one. It took me a while to settle into this one. I found it very mediocre reading this. It was too long, I already knew where this story was heading and it felt like it was taking me ages to get where I wanted to go get too. It was an ok story for me,. It does that help if you read the previous book so you are familiar with the characters and backstory.

The perfect holiday read, although one of the strands of the story might be triggering for some readers.

Continuing the story of the lottery winners who won houses on a Greek island, this time it’s about Victoria and Adam who are trying to come to terms with their recent miscarriage.
The dual timeline is about the original owners of the houses during the occupation of WWII.
I love how the community comes together to support each other and also to celebrate.
I’m looking forward to the next instalment!

I was very keen to read this given the description but… it certainly isn’t a patch on any Victoria Hislop novel, the only similarity is that’s it’s set on a Greek island.
For a start it’s very disjointed and not easy to read as the writing is just a bit naff. I feel it could be improved if it was tightened up a bit but for now it’s really just 2.5 stars.
Shame…
