Sometimes we as women often stay long past the expiration period of the relationship and a lot of the times it’s not even because we are blinded with rose colored lenses or oblivious to anything that’s happening, a lot of the time it’s simply for the benefit of other things whether it’s family, business, stability, etc. But babyyyy listennnn when something or someone better comes along and helps you realize who tf you are, where folks really got you f’d up at and what you’re really capable of like Shane did for Celeste, NO ONE OR NOTHINGGGG CAN STOP THAT LIGHT OF YOURS FROM SHINING ✨
This is very sweet and low angst. Celeste and Shane had both gone through so much with their terrible exes. I was annoyed a bit with Allen being in the picture for so long, but I was glad when Shane and Celeste finally surrendered to the pull they felt towards each other. It was sweet seeing them come together and slowly learn to trust again.
This was such an easy read. It gave me Rhythm’s Blues vibes which I loved.
There was absolutely no drama between the characters. Very little drama surrounding them I would say.
I love how quick Shane was when it came to shutting shit down when it came to Celeste’s insecurities (which were valid. She ain’t pmo toooo bad when she tried to pull away), when it came to Mia’s trifling ass and Allen’s weirddddddd ass. I loved his parents, his supportive ass mom (heaven sent), his dad and them reuniting. I love Jade, I liked Tripp (I low key want a book on him and his gf that club scene was sooo cute to me idk).
Okay. I have very much mixed feelings about Celeste’s mom. First maybe I skipped over it but I don’t remember Shane actually reading the letter she left him. But second… like idkkkkkkkkk Celeste better than me bc she wasn’t a good mom and I know that was mentioned from both parties (Celeste and her mom) I feel like they should’ve had a deeper talk like she got out of it too easy with that letter. And her letter made me angry more than anything. In that letter nothing excused her decision on taking Celeste away from her father and I know it’s like in the moment she did what she thought was right but you also had 30 years to revisit that decision. If my child kept asking about her father and I knew I had the answers I don’t see how I could keep that away from them. Her explanation was very selfish.. like oh he picked another woman over me so I’m taking his child away from him… okay like babes you’re hurting your daughter way more than you or that man is hurting. Idk I wasn’t feeling her mom at all but I was also hoping she would magically get better cause I knew that was going to kill Celeste.
Other than that. This was such a cute easy read. Both the main characters didn’t pmo not once which I loved. It was very predictable which wasn’t a bad thing at all, I read it in one sitting. Like although I saw where it was heading it kept my attention the whole time. I knew uncle Dennis was weird from the jumpppppppppp fuckkk that nigga.

I have enjoyed previous work by the author and so I was excited by the synopsis of this one. My biggest issue here was the holes in the timeline of things and inconsistencies of some key details.
I won’t lie, I was a bit annoyed with the fact that the relationship lasted over 50% of the book and would have loved to see the wholeness of the the relationship with Celeste & Shane a bit more. However, loved that they got to experience each other in fullness.
This was a week written book. Character development was excellent. Shane saw Celeste and knew she was not happy with Alan, and he was determined to make her happy and his. This book is a must read.
