Some dangers you run from. Some you run straight into.
My boss is dead. The police think I did it. The guy who actually killed him?
He has me chained to a couch.
Diego Mendez is a hitman, a criminal, and the most dangerous thing to ever walk into my life.
He should be my worst nightmare. Instead, he feeds me donuts and wipes my tears.
I shouldn’t trust him. I definitely shouldn’t want him.
He isn’t a good guy. But as the only thing standing between me and a murder charge I didn't earn?
He could be my hero.
Captive in the Crossfire is a standalone dark romance novel. Set in a world of crime and suspense, it features a morally gray hero, his resilient captive, and a HEA. The story contains dark elements, violence, and themes some may find disturbing.
The plot’s engaging, mixing crime, danger, and personal stakes, the ending does leave you wanting a bit more. Still, for a debut….and a shorter read….it delivers a solid mix of angst, and suspense.
If you like dark romance with a protective, morally gray hero and a quick, bingeable story, you can finish in one sitting. It’s not perfect, but it’s definitely addictive and makes you curious about what’s next.
Sharp, real, raw, emotional… This is a great held captive by their own desires-but not for long novella! Loved Harvee and Diego’s connection! Can’t wait to see what comes next!!
So lucky to be part of Sienna’s ARC team! This was honestly such an easy, engaging read—I kept wanting to come back to it. The writing flows like speech (if that makes sense), more like listening to a story than having to stop and process every line. The descriptions really bring the environment to life, and the characters feel like real people—not over-the-top or teetering into fantasy. DJ (Diego) is a strong MMC and a true “good guy,” even if his circumstances force him to do bad things. “I’m not the good guy, Goldilocks.” His love and care for his Ma make him feel so human, and his obsessive love for Harvee is even better. I do wish there had been a bit more relationship development—it felt a little fast—but with everything happening around them, it still works. Plus, it’s clear their relationship continues to grow beyond the story, which I’d love to see explored. And can we talk about the butterfly knife?! I was gasping—YES PLEASE, more of that! The spice overall was pretty mild for me, but that didn’t bother me at all since the plot and story stayed front and center. I really liked Harvee as an FMC. She’s strong without being overbearing—she has weaknesses, but she’s not whiny or forced. She feels real and balanced, and I love that she sees through Diego and recognizes his kindness and love. I’d also love more of the side characters. Raul especially stood out—his sacrifice for his family makes him feel like a hero in his own right without overshadowing Diego. I adored his relationship with Diego—true family. Mel felt more secondary, but as the keeper of the coffee, she’s automatically important in my world, even without a ton of depth. Overall, really good! I can’t wait to read more from Sienna—both in this series and anything else she puts out.

I've ARC read Captive in the Crossfire by Sienna Monroe, book 1 of Silk & Chains series, to be published on the 23 of april 2026. "Some dangers you run from. Some you run straight into. 🔪 Kidnapping/captivity 🔪 Mild knife play 🔪 Stalking 🔪 Close proximity 🔪 Protective/obsessed MMC 🔪 Family ♾️
The reading is quick and easy. I enjoyed three-quarters of the book, but the ending left me wanting more. The plot is well-constructed until the very end, the scenes flow smoothly and draw us into this little adventure. The male protagonist's point of view is very prominent, and I liked his way of thinking. I would have liked the female protagonist to be more developed, and the part where she is held captive isn't fleshed out enough for my taste. The sacrifice, while commendable on the part of the character involved, could have been avoided with a slightly more polished plot. Nevertheless, I had a good time reading this debut novel and I give it 3.5 ✨!
It’s so hard to believe this is Sienna’s debut novel because it was so good. The story itself combines romance and investigative crime, two of my favorite genres, with a hint of gang-life.
The main characters are connected in a way that is unique and yet realistic. I could easily sympathize with their struggles and understand the extent of the damage. Honestly, I was hooked by the first few chapters.
There was great tension and desire between Diego(DJ) and Harvee— forced proximity and a spicy “boo” moment that left me with a dropped jaw and blushing cheeks. I even found myself intrigued by multiple side-characters who I’m anxious to learn more about. I was eager to find out the ending and I honestly thought I knew what was going to happen.
I was sorely mistaken.
Sienna’s ability to shock and surprise me with that gut-wrenching ending says a lot and I’m so excited for what’s for what’s to come. 🖤
Still sitting here jaw dropped at that ending. This was the perfect blend of dark romance, revenge, and healing. This book and was so fast and easy, and for 157 pages I feel like this book accomplished a lot. Every part of the plot felt fleshed out and super detailed. It all flowed together perfectly and kept me reading/hooked!! I don’t feel like any part overshadowed others, it was so perfectly balanced. I also loved the elements of grief. I definitely wasn’t expecting the sadness in this book but it was a welcome surprise. I just want to give all the characters a hug 😭 The humor had me laughing throughout the book as well, and I really loved Sienna’s writing style!! I seriously cannot wait to read more into the other characters and see what else Sienna creates!!
I received this as an ARC from the author, all opinions are my own🩷
This one??? Yeah… it OWNED me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Captive in the Crossfire had me locked in from the first page and did not let me breathe after that. The tension?? Unhinged. The chemistry?? Illegal. And the emotional damage?? I’m still recovering. This is one of those reads where you think you know where it’s going… and then it drags you somewhere darker, messier, and way more addictive. The push and pull, the power dynamics, the obsession threaded through every interaction… it’s the kind of story that gets under your skin and stays there. I was eating up every second of it. The angst, the intensity, the way it keeps you right on edge the entire time. And when it hits… it hits hard. If you like your romance a little dangerous, a little twisted, and completely consuming… yeah, you need this. I’m not okay… and honestly? I don’t want to!
I love a captor/captive read and couldn’t resist when I heard he chains her to his couch and feeds her donuts. It was an immediate yes 😂🍩
Harvee’s boss is dead and all signs point to her. Thing is, she didn’t do it 🤷🏻♀️ The guy who did? Well, he’s a little possessive with his crush and decides to take Harvee before anyone else can.
Locked in a storage unit with an old couch and a leaking pipe, a bond between captor and captive blooms. It’s spicy and dangerous, but also sweet and passionate.
For a novella, I appreciated how much background we get on both Diego and Harvee. It made it easy to connect with them and fall in love with their story. Great debut novella!
My only critique is I’m not sure the Stockholm Syndrome trope fits. Harvee’s not held captive that long and it seemed more like an instant attraction rather than a gradual bond forming.
This book was so easy to read and I just ate it up so fast , it hooked me pretty quickly . The family dynamic captured the feeling of home and love and that mentality of ‘I would do anything for the ones I love ‘ . The battle of wanting to leave that mafia life behind but also needing to help his family is a big show of sacrifice and bravery . I felt like I wanted more of those stalker ish vibes and for that to go a little slower . The spice was pretty mild and the relationship seemed kinda rushed to me , I was hoping for a little more ‘fight ‘ from the female main character . All in all I enjoyed the book , I cried , I laughed , I enjoyed the banter . It was a fun easy read and I really loved the family feel and the realistic plot of the book
This book pulled me in from the very beginning and I couldn't put it down. It's fast-paced in the best way-packed with crime, drama, suspense, and just the right amount of spice-while still delivering emotional depth and found family moments that genuinely tug at your heart. I ended up reading it in one sitting. The story moves quickly, but never at the expense of clarity or substance. Every layer is intentional, and it all comes together seamlessly without ever feeling rushed. If you love dark romance with sharp, witty banter and a dangerously compelling "heroic villain" who will have you questioning your morals, this book absolutely delivers!
For a short story, this was a good book. I felt instantly drawn into the story and empathized with the characters. The one thing I got hung up on was that she was locked away in a storage unit. That’s fine and all but she was in there for days. Where was she going to the bathroom and cleaning herself. These are the things that were going through my head during the spicy scenes. That's just me. Overall, this was a really entertaining read that I think the author did an amazing job at getting me to empathize with the main characters.
I feel like sometimes it's hard to find a short book that’s a fun, easy read that still has the tension and suspense. Sienna! You did exactly that!
A fast-paced slow burn in about 150 pages? Um, yes please! Perfect weekend pallette cleanser!
I loved the connection between Diego and Harvee. You explored their experiences and how their past traumas led them to different life choices.
I also really felt for Diego’s mom. So many people have experienced the addicting and damaging side effects of prescription medication , and I loved seeing it represented the way it was in this book. Corporate versus patient health...
P.S. Now all I want is a Boston cream donut and some yummy Cuban food! 🤤
I’m Lucky enough to have gotten a ARC copy of this book and it’s on my top 10 reads of the year! If you like a MMC who will do anything to keep his loved ones and the FMC safe then you will love this book! The tension, the spice, and the plot are delicious. I could not put it down, Sienna knocked it out of the park on her first published book❤️. Can’t wait to read the next one in the series
This was such a great and quick read. I loved the quick character growth provided and the chemistry between the MMC and FMC. Good one liners and banter, was so fun and can’t wait for next book she writes.
"I don't know how to be near someone I've decided to watch over and also keep my hands to myself about it."

𝖙𝖍𝖔𝖚𝖌𝖍𝖙𝖘: for a short novel, this book delivered in so many ways that mattered. the main characters each have their own struggles that are vastly different but still tie them together through real, raw life experiences. they are both so relatable; family issues, trauma, money problems, health problems, workplace drama, etc. this book gives you angst, suspense, trauma, romance, all the drama, and found family vibes that make all the struggles worth it. i can't wait for the next book of this series.
𝖘𝖔 𝖜𝖍𝖆𝖙 𝖍𝖆𝖕𝖕𝖊𝖓𝖘? Diego meets Harvee accidentally when working a job, and he very quickly becomes obsessed with her, albeit reluctantly. when Harvee gets thrown in the middle of an investigation, Diego swoops in and tries to fix everything for her, unknowingly making it all worse. their lives become entirely intertwined & dependent from that point on.
This story is fast paced yet will make you feel deeply. Imperfect people fitting together in a chaotically beautiful way. I will definitely continue to support and read whatever comes next for Sienna Monroe!
Sienna does a great job of creating likable characters. It was so easy to fall into the main character Harvee. DJ is a great heart throb and it’s a good dark romance without being too harsh or gut wrenching. It was a pleasant read.
Short, sweet, dark and fabulous plot. The tension and spice are spot on and kept me wanting more. Very excited for this and book two! Let’s goooo!!! 10/10
In her debut book Sienna Monroe writes a story that pulls you in immediately and has you finishing in one sitting. You instantly like the main characters and understand their backstories. The twist at the end will have you in tears but even more excited for a sequel.
Sienna Monroe’s debut Captive in the Crossfire is officially out and I had to jump on here with a quick review 🖤✨
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Short, sharp, and completely addictive. This true-crime vigilante story wastes zero time pulling you in — gritty, fast-paced, and seriously a 10/10 read. I devoured it in one sitting and immediately wanted more. I’m beyond proud of her and this amazing debut!
Captive in the Crossfire is a dual POV that follows Diego and Harvee as they navigate the murder of Harvee’s boss. Diego takes jobs to help care for his sick mother, who is taking Plex to help with her pain. Harvee works as an intern for a law firm defending the company that produces Plex. When Harvee’s boss is murdered, she becomes the prime suspect. Diego steps in to try and keep Harvee safe, but at what cost?
I was very excited to read Sienna Monroe’s debut novel! This was a very quick read, and it held my attention for the entire ride! I thought it was interesting how the stories were woven together, and understanding each character’s perspective about what was happening. I enjoyed Diego’s love for his family and how he quickly became protective over Harvee. Harvee has had a lot of bad things happen, so maybe finding the protective Diego will help her move forward. I look forward to reading more of Sienna Monroe!
This was book 1 of the series, and let me tell you😮💨😮💨😮💨 Diego and Harvey’s story made me feel every emotion! This book may be small but it is mighty and packs a punch! Not only does it have a great story line and is based off Louis Mangione, but it has both a great plot AND slow burn spice ❤️🔥 but balance right? It’s hard to find that in a shorter book of 157 pages! This book leaves you set up to go straight into book two, which will follow Raul’s story and left me grasping for answers as to why!! No spoilers so you will just have to read it for yourself and see! Sienna did an amazing job writing this and I can’t wait for the next book and for her to blow up in relevance from her amazing writing!
This was a different take on the whole “hitman/mafia” type books, which I found refreshing. This story reflects more on times we’re currently in. There is no big gang, no one is a millionaire. It's just about everyday people navigating the trails we face today, honing in on the US healthcare system.
There is a good amount of amazing spice, for a novella and a slow burn book.
The lead up to the actual spice is worth the wait. It is born of longing, it’s also taboo, and sensational!
Favorite Quote: I learned early what it felt like to be looked at instead of seen, to take up space and have that space immediately defined for you by someone else.
