Who knew I’d become an author? Not me. But when the opportunity knocked, I answered the door and welcomed it in. I approach life with as much positivity as I can—celebrating the hits and laughing at the misses. Nothing worthwhile is easy, and that includes everything in my life. But I have much to smile about—my lovely mother, a beautiful daughter, two precious granddaughters, my adorable dogs, and my sweet husband of over thirty years. He has always supported me—including uprooting to move to the other side of Charlotte, N.C. for a life change, just when we thought we were settled.

If settled means not going after my dreams, then I never want to be settled. I give my all to things I enjoy—and that includes writing. In 2021, I hit the USA Today Bestselling Author list, and recently, two of my books were named RONE Finalists!

I love to express myself to the point that my daughter avoids going to the movies with me because I’m that woman in the row in front of you who gleefully munches her popcorn and laughs at every hilarious scene. Loudly. Besides my family, I love chocolate, popcorn, laughter, and animals. I love animals so much that I frequently sprinkle them in my stories as secondary characters. They usually steal the show! British and American history have always interested me, so writing historical romances set in the U.K. and the US is where my passion is.

When I was barely three years old, my parents divorced, and my mom moved my sister and me from New York to South Carolina to live near her parents. Juggling a full-time job and full-time school, my mother became my first genuine hero—she never waved the white flag when things were tough. And things quickly got tough. My grandmother, who helped care for my sister and me while my mother worked, became ill with cancer, and didn’t survive the surgery, dying before I was seven. Losing Grandma devastated me. She read to me and taught me to read before I started first grade. I credit her for inspiring my love of reading, and I credit my mother for encouraging me to turn my ideas into stories.

When I was ten, my neighbor gave me her book club copy of Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind and it remains one of my favorite books. But it was Kathleen Woodiwiss’ Shanna and Ashes in the Wind, that hooked me on historical romance and sparked my dream of becoming a published author.

While I primarily write Regency Romance, I enjoy almost any period in American and British history.

Dared by a Lyon by Anna St Clair is an entertaining novel about a young woman whose cousin is something of a free spirit and all too often involves her cousin, Ashlyn, who often pays the consequences. This time the two of them have traveled to England, Elizabeth’s parents to follow. Elizabeth has fallen in love with the artist who painted their portraits as a surprise for both sets of parents. She intends to run away with him to Italy, where they will marry. Ashlyn is to pretend to be her as she attends a house party arranged for Elizabeth by her mother’s old friend, Bessie Dove-Lyon. Ashlyn hates the idea but is powerless. On the journey, during a storm, the coach slid off the road and Ashlyn and her maid were trapped in it. Gabriel Dawson, Seventh Earl of Ravensthorpe, has been riddled with guilt over the deaths of his betrothed, his sister, and her husband, when, on a night, like this their carriage had plunged into a river, killing all but his niece, Caro. So when these bedraggled woman arrived at the door in the middle of the storm, it all came back to him.

This was a pleasant story where things worked out just as they should. Ashlyn was not from a wealthy family but she is a kind and loving person, unlike her more impulsive cousin, Elizabeth. Gabriel’s guilt was misplaced and with the advent of Ashlyn in their lives, masquerading as Elizabeth, he comes alive again. He is a vibrant and determined man. The characters are good and this is an engaging love story. The best characters were Lady Paul and Lord Pervis, the marriage-aged children of the hostess of the house party. The evil ones always are. This is a simple romance, but satisfying.

Dared By A Lyon is an excellent and captivating story that delivers both heart and charm. Anna St. Claire has once again crafted a tale that pulls you in from the start and keeps you turning the pages. The story has moments of emotion that feel sincere and moving, making the journey all the more rewarding.

The characters are interesting, well-developed, and thoroughly engaging. Each one shines with personality and depth, making it easy to care about their lives and the obstacles they face. Their interactions are natural, and their growth throughout the book makes the experience even more enjoyable.

The plot is well thought out and flows seamlessly, building anticipation without ever losing its focus. Combined with a romance that is charming, tender, and ultimately leads to a heartwarming happily-ever-after, Dared By A Lyon is a true delight.

Dared by a Lyon was an enjoyable read. A sweet and clean love story.

Ashlyn March and her cousin Elizabeth travel to England from America.
They plan on some innocent adventures which includes a house party, hosted by a friend of Elizabeth's mother.

Both young ladies look so much alike, they are often mistaken for one another or twins but that is where their similarities end.
Elizabeth is adventurous, outspoken, and often impetuous.
Ashlyn is kind, thoughtful, responsible, and often the one who deals with fixing the messes Elizabeth gets them into.

They protect one another and have each others backs.

While on their journey, Elizabeth believes she has fallen in love with an Italian artist and plans to run away with him to elope. She wants Ashlyn to go to the house party alone and masquerade as her.

Ashlyn doesn't want to go along with her cousin's plans, she doesn't want to lie, doesn't trust the artist, she knows this is all a bad idea but she goes along with Elizabeth's plan anyway.

On the way to the house party, there is a horrible accident during a storm and Ashlyn seeks help at the Earl of Ravensthorpe's home. She is welcomed by the family and stays with them.

Gabriel, the Earl of Ravensthorpe has been mourning the loss of his betrothed, his sister, and her husband for three yrs. His family, they have been under the darkness of loss all that time.

His mother hasn't fared any better than he but his sister's daughter Caro - she hasn't even spoken since the tragedy.

Their life is about to change as Ashlyn shows up to their home seeking aid but as they help her in her time of need - she helps them in a way they never knew was possible. She brings light back into their lives.

As Ashlyn and Gabriel start spending time with one another, Gabriel finds himself finally feeling alive again, not drenched in sorrow, and he knows it's because of this wonderful woman who came into his life.
His mother is happy again and Ashlyn is helping Caro in ways no one else has been able to.

Ashlyn is falling in love with Gabriel and adores his family.
She hates lying to them about her identity and fears his feelings changing once he finds out she's not Elizabeth the American heiress....

The story was well written
The characters were wonderful, they were believable. What they were experiencing was relatable.

I loved how there was no major drama, there was proper build up of relationships, and lots of support amongst the characters.
Very nice and easy read. Heartwarming.

I received an ARC. All opinions expressed are my own and voluntarily provided

A dazzling addition to an enchanting series!

Anna St. Claire’s Dared by a Lyon pulls readers into a whirlwind of romance, secrets, and irresistible charm. The story shines with the lively dynamic of two lookalike cousins: one daring, adventurous, and impulsive, and the other more reserved yet resilient. When American-born Ashlyn March reluctantly agrees to swap places with her spirited heiress cousin Elizabeth for a house party, she has no idea that adventure awaits before she even reaches the front door.

The journey itself sets the tone—an accident, a broken carriage, an injured driver, and a storm all conspire to deliver Ashlyn (posing as Elizabeth) straight to the grand steps of Gabriel Dawson, the Earl of Ravensthorpe. Gabriel, still healing from a tragic carriage accident and nursing a heart full of guilt, is instantly intrigued by Ashlyn’s beauty, intelligence, and kindness. Her ability to connect with others and intuit their needs makes her unforgettable—and stirs life back into his world.

From the stormy beginnings to the opulent house party hosted by Mrs. Dove-Lyon, the stakes only rise. Ashlyn quickly becomes the target of a treacherous brother-sister duo, and when her secret identity is cruelly exposed, chaos erupts. Her journey through deception, danger, and self-discovery leads to a romance that is both tender and exhilarating.

St. Claire crafts characters who leap off the page, each imbued with depth, charm, and vulnerabilities that make you root for their happiness. The plot moves with a satisfying rhythm—balancing intrigue, heartfelt emotion, and just the right dose of drama. The connection between Ashlyn and Gabriel grows from a spark to a flame, ultimately culminating in a heartwarming happily-ever-after that leaves readers smiling.

Dared by a Lyon is a captivating escape full of romance, suspense, and hope. It’s a story that sweeps you up from the first page, keeps your pulse racing through every twist, and rewards you with an ending that feels both touching and perfectly earned.

This Title should be dared by my twin cousin. We have Ashlyn March beloved daughter of a prominent Physician from America. She and her fabulously wealthy cousin are in London to later meet at House party where Bessie Lyon is co-hosting with an old friend.
Miss Elizabeth Vickers only daughter of American Shipping Magnate William Alfred Vickers is convinced she is in love. In love with her Italian artist who is painting she and Ashlyn portraits. She has convinced Ashlyn to take her place at the House Party to also deliver letters to her parents of her elopement (diabolical plan).
Ashlyn thinks she has no choice to save face and try to reach Elizabeth parents with the news!
Ashlyn, her maid and a very young driver had an accident and is very thankful their lives are spared! When they make to the doorway of one Lord Gabriel Dawson, Earl of Ravensthorpe it is a miracle! Their family survived a tragedy on such a night and almost the same place some years prior!
These two were never supposed to meet! Gabriel sick of the normal society Misses has no interest in attending the house party until he utterly smitten by this beautiful American!
When the arrive together there are nefarious individuals would keep them apart! But secrets have a way of sneaking out at the wrong time.
Ashlyn continues the charade but is instantly attracted to the handsome Earl!
When they get the House several advents take place at once!
There is a bitter Bettie and she is determined Gabriel will be her husband.
Will love conquer all or will the truth be more than Gabriel can handle!? Bravo

When American-born Ashlyn March reluctantly agrees to swap places with her daring heiress cousin Elizabeth and attend a house party, she anticipates some awkward social moments but not a broken carriage, an injured coach driver who’s actually a fourteen-year-old boy, and a thunderstorm that leaves her stranded at the doorstep of Gabriel Dawson, the Earl of Ravensthorpe. Caught together by the storm, Ashlyn and Gabriel can’t deny the blossoming attraction between them. Even his own shadows of grief seem to lighten in her presence.
Another very good addition to the connected world & the setting wasn’t at the Den but at a house party hosted by Bessie. I loved both Gabriel & Ashlyn, their attraction was immediate but he’s still grieving & she’s impersonating her cousin. I loved how they fell in love but then they go to the house party & Ashlyn becomes the target of a scheming brother & sister. An engrossing romance with secrets, grief & a young girl who Ashlyn helps, the ending is touching & was very satisfactory

Ashlyn March has come to London with her Heiress cousin Elizabeth to enjoy the Season, and perhaps find a husband (for Elizabeth). They were to attend a house party sponsored by Mrs. Bessie Dove-Lyon for a similar purpose. It was grand fun until Elizabeth became entangled with an Italian painter with whom she planned to elope. At Elizabeth’s insistence, Ashlyn will attend the party posing as her cousin. A carriage accident on the way brings her to the estate of Gabriel Dawson, Earl of Ravensthorpe. Gabriel still grieves the loss of his sister and betrothed in a carriage accident. He is guardian to the only survivor, his young niece, who hasn’t spoken since her mother’s death. There is an almost immediate attraction between Gabriel and Ashlyn, and a touching connection between her and his niece. This is a wonderful romance, although not without a hitch or two. Gabriel and Ashlyn are quite a match. Both are kind, caring, and protective of those they care about. They attend the house party together, but scheming siblings, secrets, and lies make the trip a near disaster. Humiliated and crushed, Ashlyn flees. An unexpected arrival saves the day, and we discover that Mrs. Dove-Lyon’s magic works where ever it is needed. An engaging story with several heart-touching moments, great characters, and a lovely ending.

It was a dark and stormy night on February 16, 1819, that claimed the lives of the fiancé of Gabriel Dawson, Earl of Ravensthorpe, and his sister and her husband as they traveled from London. Only his niece had been rescued before the carriage was submerged in the river. On the anniversary of their deaths three years later, another storm causes another carriage accident; but this time there are survivors, who seek shelter at Gabriel’s estate. And his heat starts to open again with the entry of Miss Elizabeth Vickers into his house.
Except that Elizabeth Vickers, American heiress, has eloped with an Italian painter. The mud-coated female on his doorstep is her cousin, Ashlyn March, who has reluctantly agreed to impersonate Elizabeth at a houseparty given by a friend of Elizabeth’s mother.
Gabriel and Ashlyn are clearly attracted to each other and are well-crafted characters.
My favorite aspect of the book, however, is the cursive font used for Ashlyn’s diary entries. This adds an intimacy to the novel that is delightful.

Thank you NetGalley. The two cousins came from America to look or a husband in London. Mrs Dove-Lyon was giving a house party for them at a friend's home in Bath. She had been in her season With Elizabeth's mother. She talked Ashlyn who looked a great deal like her to take her place and they would tell them Ashlyn didn't feel well so she wouldn't go. Elizabeth was in love with an Italian she was going off to Italy with. Ashlyn started to Bath and hit a terrible storm which the had an accident with the carriage. She made it out of the carriage with her maid and the young man driving the carriage. they were all very lucky. They rode the horses to a mansion back up the road. There was Gabriel and his family willing to help them all they could. They had lost family on the same date three years before, the only survivor being his young niece. Ashlyn is feeling very bad that she is meeting them as her cousin. Ashlyn as Elizabeth spends several days with them until the weather is better. She goes on to the house party with Gabriel. Much happens from there.

Ashlyn March only meant to play stand‑in for her cousin, not star in a full‑blown Regency Romantic Disaster, complete with a busted carriage, an injured teenage coach driver, & a thunderstorm dramatic enough to make Shakespeare clap. Enter Gabriel Dawson, the Earl of Ravensthorpe - charming, grieving, & absolutely unprepared for the soaked‑to‑the‑skin American beauty who lands on his doorstep like fate with good hair.

Their chemistry was immediate; their secrets were inconvenient & their getting to know each other was delicious! Ashlyn can heal anything except the one thing Gabriel wants most; the truth. And watching her try to protect everyone but herself gives the story its emotional punch. This one delivers cozy storm‑bound tension, a hero who softens beautifully, & a heroine who shines brightest when she’s helping others - even when it costs her. Sweet, swoony, & just messy enough to feel real. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Ashlyn has a problem ….and its name is Elizabeth-her lovely, kind , sister of her heart, cousin, who is as impetuous as they come. Gabriel lives in a dark bubble of grief, taking the blame for something he could not have stopped. I enjoyed the story, per se but there were some discrepancies - the maid Rose, was all of a sudden named Mary and then back to Rose. And Gabriel deciding one thing about the carriage and the very next page it was something different. This is a sweet story, kisses only and no real crass language (thank you Author)The villain(s) were obvious from the start and I knew quickly how they would cause problems. I did enjoy Gabriel’s response , as it is different than what most historical romance writers do. Mrs. Dove-Lyon doesn’t have a big role, but what she does have is significant. I adored the punishment the villain received and the epilogue was cute. A solid story, with somewhat interesting characters, an adorable puppy and a cute little girl named Caro.

I received this story for free and these are my own views.

Ashlyn’s cousin is always dragging her into trouble. When she travels to England with Elizabeth, Elizabeth falls for an Italian artist painting her portrait and is certain they’re meant to marry in Italy. Despite Ashlyn’s best efforts to talk her out of it, Elizabeth sails away, leaving Ashlyn to break the news to her parents and pose as Elizabeth at a house party. The two cousins could pass for twins and often switch places. On her way to the party, Ashlyn gets caught in a terrible storm, resulting in a carriage accident. She and her companions find shelter with Gabriel, the Earl of Ravensthorpe, who lost his sister, brother-in-law, and fiancée in a similar accident three years earlier, with only his niece surviving. His family is just beginning to heal, and Ashlyn’s presence brings new life to the household. But when the truth about who she really is comes out, will Gabriel and his family still feel the same? Ashlyn has fallen for Gabriel, but with her deception hanging over them, can he ever forgive her?

This was a sweet addition to the Lyon’s Den collection. It was full of twists and turns with great characters. There was sadness and grief that needed healing, and it came in the form of the heroine, Ashlyn. Although she was keeping a secret for her cousin, she couldn’t hide her heart and kindness. The attraction was obvious and the connection between Ashlyn and Gabriel was instant even once they attended the house party where they had to deal with villains that wanted to keep them apart. This story dealt with so many issues, as well as introducing medical knowledge. The story had causes, romance, love, sweet kisses, supportive family, a supportive and helpful Bessie Dove-Lyon, and a HEA. I just wish that I could have read more of the happy ending instead of some of the repetitive thoughts throughout. That dialogue could have been used better, but I still loved this sweet love story because I liked the main characters so much.

Ashlyn and Elizabeth are best friends over from America they are very much alike and often pretend to be each other. Elizabeth is the more flights and declares she is sloping with an artist and that Ashlyn has to impersonate her at a ton party.
Ashlyn is reluctant but agrees and on the way is involved in an accident and has to take refuge at Gabriel's home while they wait for the weather to enable them to travel to the party they become attracted to one another as always with Miss Dove-Lyon involved there are twists to the tale but it is very enjoyable and a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours with pleasant characters and a couple of not so nice ones but a happy ending

This is such a sweet and charming romance between a lovely, intelligent, American young lady and the handsome Earl who takes her in after a carriage accident. Ashlyn travels to England with her look alike cousin, who talks her into posing as her at a house party. Didn’t seem too difficult to pull off until a storm causes her carriage to go off the road and she ends up in the home of the Earl, Gabriel . There is instant attraction but she never meant to fall in love with him, his little niece and his mom. Their growing relationship is very endearing until they attend the house party and the evil doers there are very annoying and not too bright. In spite of them, the Earl is not deterred by their shenanigans , and the HEA achieved.

This was an enjoyable read with switch identities, a grieving MMC, a young niece who is also grieving, carriage accidents, jealous would be suitor, plus a match making hostess. The FMC is asked by her look alike cousin to change places with her at a house party. On the way there, she is in a carriage accident which lands her on the MMC’s doorstep. There definitely is a connection between but other things come into play including the truth about the identity. I liked the main characters and some of the secondary ones, especially the niece. And of course you have to hand it to the games played at Mrs. Dove-Lyon’s notorious den - house party.

A Ruse Gone Right:
A delightful story of discovering romance with a little help from Mrs. Dove Lyon.
The characters were very emotionally attracted to each other from the beginning.
I enjoyed the story and the cousin's ruse gave the enemy lots of ammunition to bring forth the truth and
bring this intriguing romance story to a very wonderful heartfelt ending.
✔ Bravo to the author to acknowledge mental health trauma issues which added more depth to this story.

A Cousin Swap.
Ashlyn takes the place of her impetuous heiress cousin to avoid a scandal but lying to the family who take her in after a carriage accident becomes more and more distasteful as she falls in love. An enjoyable sweet story (kisses only). Hopefully the typos will have been addressed in the final copy.

Dared by a Lyon completely captured my heart. I loved the unique and unexpected take on the “twins” storyline—it felt fresh, emotional, and beautifully done. I was completely invested from beginning to end. Anna St. Claire’s writing was exceptional as always, pulling me deeply into the characters’ lives and emotions. This story made me laugh, ache, and yes…cry. A moving, unforgettable romance that stayed with me long after I finished the final page.

Ashlyn and her cousin, two Americans travel to England. They are invited to a party where Mrs. Lyon will work to match couples. Ashlyn's cousin falls in love and decides to run off to get married. She talks Ashlyn into pretending to be her. At least until the parent's come. Ashlyn did not plan on an overturned carriage and meeting Gabriel who invites her into his home. As their feelings grow how can she ever let Gabriel know the truth?

Another Wonderful, Entertaining & Romantic Story.

The Story was Wonderful.   A hero who was filmed with grief & guilt doesn't realize how it's affecting his family.  A heroine who is Masquerading as her cousin finds herself, her maid & a driver at Gabriel's home & feels horrible for lying about her identity.

Ashlyn & Gabriel were wonderful characters.

I am looking forward to reading "Bearding The  Lyon" by J.M. Diedrich in the next book in this series.

A lovely story with sweet characters. Ashlyn has a delightful personality. Gabriel cares deeply. This is a sweet shorter read. I wanted more on their relationship developing, and I didn't see this as very connected to the Lyon's Den or how the title fits. The ending resolved everything, but I wanted more detail and depth to how it occurred. Still an enjoyable shorter novel to read.

just love Anna St. Claire‘s books. You feel like you’ve stepped right into the time. The characters come alive and are always interesting. The storyline keeps you turning pages well into the night. It was interesting that this one took place outside of London. Well done!
