That’s it. My neighbor has to die. There’s no other way around it. The man must be killed—and I’ll even find a way to do it gently, but this cannot go on.

Okay, maybe I’m a bit dramatic, but living next to my brother’s best friend who decided to befriend crows who spend all week spreading garbage across my lawn is not I signed up for.

I wanted quiet.
I wanted peace.
I wanted to stop fantasizing about the gorgeous man I couldn’t stand.

Unfortunately for me, North is a big presence with an annoyingly sunny smile and a way of making life sound like it’s worth living. And as a widower who wants to spend the rest of my life wallowing, the last person I want around is one who makes me question my new life’s purpose.

But these feelings can’t be real, can they? I had my great love, and I lost him. So that’s supposed to be it for me.
Isn’t that the way things go?

I can’t seem to stay away from North, even when I know I should. And when he starts to make me feel like maybe there’s another happily ever after out there, I find that as cautious as I’ve taken each step, I’m on the verge of falling once more.

Don’t Fall is the first book in the small town, enemies to lovers, heavy yearning, MM romance series, Storm Season. It features a virgin EMT whose smile is hiding a lot of things, a disgruntled, grieving writer who just wants solid sleep and a good meal, neighborhood crows wreaking havoc, cooking lessons, hurt/comfort, and a toe-curling happily ever after.

4.5 Stars - North and Leo

An incredibly strong start to a new fire fighter series. I am HOOKED. HOOKED I tell you.

North is our resident fire fighter. He is a bird dad. He is 29 (?) and a virgin. He is an absolute green flag, care bear looking after his family because the male figures in his life are the literal worst. He knows his way around the kitchen and he's insanely attracted to his best friend (Easton's) younger brother - Leo, who he accidentally saw naked one time and who now 'hates' him as a result.

Leo is trying to figure out what he wants to do with his life. He experienced a life changing injury in an accident that also cost him his husband, has seizures and other challenges now as a result of his TBI, and he's been a bit adrift ever since. He is entirely unimpressed with his older brother's best friend, who is a neighbour of sorts, and who keeps attracting crows into the neighbourhood and Leo's trash cans by default. He's also insanely attracted to North, but figures the hot, slightly older fire fighter with a snarky mouth wouldn't ever want him.

When these two interact, at first, it's like oil and water. Every time either of them opens their mouths they're sticking their feet in it. Or misinterpret what the other is saying. They can't seem to help it, their mutual attraction towards one another turning them into buffoons whenever they're in spitting distance.

Of course, things happen. They start to actually adult and the next thing they know there's supply closets involved and suddenly they're looking at each other in a different light... ugh, it was glorious. A slow burn, back and forth, 'hate' to love that I could get behind. Both characters were adorable in their own way and once they each pulled their own heads out, they quickly realised just how perfect for one another they were.

There's a lot happening in this book. We're setting up our main two characters and their back stories, but there are also a lot of side characters happening and making their presence known. I am SO EXCITED for book two!! Easton (the bestie/brother) clearly had things going on in this book that I am DYING to get more details on. And his MMC is going to be an absolute gem, I just know it. They aren't the only two characters I'm curious about though, so I have high hopes that this series ends up being as long, if not longer, than the single dad's club. There were certainly plenty of fire fighters and EMT's to go around, so fingers crossed.

Of course, it wouldn't be an EM Lindsey book without strong disability rep, and we are introduced to several characters, Leo included, with various disabilities. It's woven in flawlessly as always and adds diversity where so often there is none to be found.

ARC received from theauthoragency. This is my full and honest review.

Finish this book within a few hours, that's how bingeable it was.

All Leo wanted was some peace and quiet. However North, his brother's best friend, is his neighbor who feeds the crows so he can never get what he wanted. As they banter back and forth, they started to see cracks in their exteriors that might gave way to how they both fighting silent battles that they understand deeply.

Let me preface this by saying that I love all kinds of representation this book showcased. That's one thing that I do appreciate with E.M. Lindsey's books. I meet a lot of representation in the characters, and I love that. I get introduced to them, and I learned a lot from reading.

Anyways, I'm such a sucker for different representation especially when it's unique to me that I love learning about Leo's TBI and I see his struggles through his POV, how's he coping, his strengths and how he's just human that is thrust upon this forever thing. Not only that but Leo's also dealing with grief, survivor's guilt and he's such a complex character that I cannot help but admire.

North, on the otherhand, is the typical eldest child. And I am not an eldest child, but I resonate with his character so much. He's the epitome of every eldest child who wanted to protect his younger siblings but taking the burnt of hurt coming from his parent. He's also carrying trauma, guilt, constant pressure and being lost that I honestly don't think I can carry alone, but he did it with such grace that you cannot help to root for him. Life kicks him down, but he's still standing strong.

I yapped for so long, but long story short, I love both characters.

Now, we move on to the plot and story portion and that is where I struggle a bit. I always prefer emotional side first before the physical aspect every single time I read a book. So this where I was iffy a bit because it was very obvious that both characters had this tension between them. Their banter was on point and they might dislike each other, but that doesn't mean that they don't like each other. I am not making sense not unless you read.

Once I got past that 30% and the story progressed more emotional, that where I was hooked. I love the story direction it took. I love seeing different sides of things, and I love how it doesn't always be rainbows and sunshine in relationship, but you have to put in the effort to make it work. And they both did. And I love that.

I will def be reading this series. I am so curious on the side characters, because not only they were intriguing when we met them here but also the different representation they bring to the story.

Don't Fall is first times and a second chance at love all rolled into a new beginning of something pretty darn special.

Leo is a widower, who's had a severe injury that almost took his life when it also took his husband's. Now after a long recovery, his days are spent trying to finish a long overdue manuscript and cleaning up after his neighbors possessed crows. Deep down Leo believes his neighbor is a witch sending the crows over to purposely mess up his yard.😂 Yeah, Leo needs to get out a bit more, but he's sweet in his grumpiness. He's also lonely, without really admitting he's alone, not to mention his ailments irritate him. They are a constant reminder of what he lost and that he constantly needs help, but it doesn't stop him from confronting his neighbor, witch or not. 😉

North, who I will state for the record, is not a witch, but is actually a firefighter. North is caring, a provider, looks after everyone except himself, and his first instinct is to assess every situation, he doesn't exactly love his job. What he does love is just about everything else. The crows in his yard, feeding everyone at the firehouse, taking care of his family, and helping his hot neighbor, Leo. He especially loves that last one.😉 He's not sure what his calling in life is, but life for North has always been in a constant state of just making it to the next day and he's never really given much thought as to what his future could hold. That is until Leo literally lands on his doorstep and turns everything upside down.

These two begin as antagonist neighbors with lots of misunderstandings between them. As they slowly peel away all the judgments, and initial bad impressions, the underlying attraction that was always there shines through and Leo and North, two very vulnerable men, lean on one another during some pretty difficult times. It's quite an emotional story of strength and healing once they open up to one another.

North has spent most of his life trying to take care of his family. He has scars, physical and emotional, to show just how much he has been through. Working at the fire station was never his dream. But it gave him a steady career to take care of him mom and sisters after everything his stepdad put them through. And the guys at the station mean everything to him as well and he finds himself taking care of them when he can. But even he can admit he gets lonely. And the one guy who sparks something in him, is the same guy North keeps putting his foot in his mouth about. Leo. His best friend’s younger brother. Leo has his own set of trauma. Him and his husband were in a horrible accident six years ago that resulted in Leo’s husband’s death, and many physical damages to Leo as well. Especially when it involves his brain and he can get seizures. He thought moving into a house he liked near his brother would not only give him space but show he can be independent. Except when he learns North is his neighbor, he is anything but happy. Turns out, these two have quite the misunderstandings about one another. And what they think is hate is anything but. And when they finally talk and acknowledge the attraction brewing between them, well it might be the thing that both have been looking for all along. Absolutely loved this story! A great start to this series which included a bunch of characters I desperately want books for. I really loved getting to know North and Leo. Both have been through quite a lot. And while their traumas are different, they also do understand one another at the same time. It was sweet for them to finally get out of their own way and find the happiness they both more than deserve. Really can’t wait to see what book two brings us!

You ever read a book and you just wanna hug the broken boys so much yeah this is it
North and Leo man life has thrown everything at them and they deserve their hea so damn much!
They start off hating each other north is Leo’s brothers best friend and they live in the same neighborhood
Leo had a tragic accident where he lost his husband and suffered a tbi so his brother is very overprotective
North has dealt with many family issues and he’s the person everyone seems to rely on him not taking his feelings into consideration
North cooks food for Leo but they didn’t get off on the right foot Leo can’t believe that someone like north would be attracted to someone like him
What I love is how much they change each others outlook
Leo was really down on himself and after a second accident happened he moves in with north for awhile
I knew Easton finding out was gonna be a bad thing thank god it didn’t last long
They learned to trust each other; north opened up about his scars and his body and how he hasn’t been with anyone ever
Leo opens up about his husband and how he feels about being broken and having someone keep such a close eye on him like his brother does
Their happiness was so well deserved it took long it was a slow burn yeah there wasn’t a ton of spice but this was just a good freaking story
They needed each other the little nicknames they acceptance in each other and while I cried multiple times one that got me was when north asked could he have a hug!
It took Leo a bit to say I love you he was so damn scared the universe was going to take someone else he loved away from him
The ending was perfect it was amazing to see someone take
Care of north for once and he actually let Leo help with his family his mom and everything and they were planning a future together

***ARC Review***

“Don’t try to tear yourself into pieces for someone who will never be satisfied with the shape you’re in.”

North became a firefighter to help take care of his mother and siblings. It isn’t his dream job. At the station he becomes best friends with Easton. Easton’s younger brother, Leo, had an incident in the past and has a TBI because of it. North and Leo can’t stand each other. Until all of a sudden, they can.

I wanted so badly to like this book! There was just so much that felt forced and wasn’t believable. North and Leo can’t stand each other but it all ends up being for stupid reasons that would have been solved with a simple conversation. The miscommunication in this book was so annoying. And then when they do finally get together it’s like a complete 180 flip. They go from hating each other to North professing his love with hardly anything in between. The “love” didn’t feel real. It was so forced and nothing on page showed what led up to either of them having such real feelings. The relationship had potential, but the growth wasn’t written into the story to make the relationship believable.

I really loved the idea of this book. Two guys helping each other through tough times and past trauma. And enemies-to-lovers is one of my favorite tropes but it was not executed right in this book. Because the feelings felt so rushed, and not in a cute “love at first sight/insta love” type way, it also made the spice feel inauthentic.

Also what was with the crows???

The author set up many of the side characters in a way that you could tell they will end up with their own book in the series. I would like to check out the next one when it happens, but my hopes are not super high.

I received this book in advance for my honest review

I’m a big fan of MM romance novels, and this one particularly caught my attention because it centered around a firefighter and his best friend’s brother. While the book didn’t delve too deeply into the intricacies of firefighting, it effectively portrayed the transformation of two next-door neighbors into enemies-to-lovers. Their initial animosity stemmed from their communication styles, but as they worked together to overcome their differences, they began to heal and grow closer.

One of the unique elements of this story was the presence of a black crow that Leo couldn’t stand but North adored and took care of. This crow became a constant source of tension for Leo, but it ultimately played a role in bringing them closer together.

Easton, Leo’s brother and best friend, had a troubled childhood and a complex family dynamic that shaped his personality and relationships. He had never been in a serious relationship before, and his past experiences, including a tragic accident that left him disabled after his husband passed away, had left him carrying a lot of trauma.

Despite these challenges, Leo and North found solace in each other’s company. North was always there to help Leo with medical issues, and their bond deepened as they faced various obstacles together. Tragically, during a seizure, Leo’s house in Gulf was set ablaze, forcing him to stay with North. This incident solidified their relationship and brought them closer than ever before.

Overall, this book has a satisfying happily ever after. It’s a truly enjoyable read that I would rate a solid 4.5 out of 5. Unfortunately, Goodreads doesn’t allow me to give it a 4.5, but I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys MM romance novels.

Ugh these boys!!!

Leo is just a frustrated damaged man, after being in a loveless marraige and then losing his husband and living the TBI his life is a struggle and he doesnt know if he wanted to live it. Let alone live it next to his brothers best friend, Leo ugh the way i just want to hug him so tight he wants to be able to be himself but its so hard when his own body is working against him.

North my sweet baby, hes spent his life being forced to grow up from wanting to protect his mom, to being forced to help raise his sisters. All North has wanted to do is to love and be loved in return but he never thought he would find it, and here he is finding it in the least likely person his best friend brother who he believes hates him.

Mt heart broke and was put together with these two, they are such sweet damaged boys but boy do they love each other when they finally stop their foolishness haha. This was a hard earned HEA but 😮‍💨 guys it was so worth it to see these two find their love!

So I will start by saying I have been an E. M. Lindsey admirer since the first Irons and Works book came out, 2019? And I have been enjoying all their co-writes lately they've been wonderful.
However I want to say there is nothing like a book they write themselves. I was awash in waves of " obliviots in love" that they write like no one else, tons of self- doubt in the MCs, disabilitiy that made me cry, suffering in so many forms, mental and physical.
There is one thing that I am still amazed at, in almost every book I learn about a health situation I have never heard of before, in this book there are two- SMA- Spinal Muscular Atrophy(a degenerative disease) and Substance Induced Persisting Dementia.
I believe you will love Leo and North as much as I do, their struggles, their baggage and even North's fledgling crow, Russell, IYKYK.
I am so excited to meet the whole ensemble from the firehouse, most of whom we get little glimpses of in this book.
This is an ARC read for me, and all in my own words.

I received a copy of this book for free for my honest review.

I enjoyed this story and look forward to the next in the series.

Both MMC’s have tragic pasts that left them scarred for different reasons. They dislike eachother, or they are supposed to.

For me the characters had depth with their own backgrounds but I didn’t always connect with them together. I don’t get why Leo disliked North so much unless it was supposed to be his way of grieving or depression like reaction of his situation. He was a bit annoying in his stubbornness in the beginning and his over the top frustration with North.

I did like that a lot of the drama in the story didn’t necessarily revolve around the men as a couple. I know this is a romance and a nice one, but it’s refreshing that it’s not the only main thing happening to focus on.

I also like that we don’t learn everything about Leo’s tragedy and North’s background all at one’s. It comes in pieces throughout the book but not in an annoying way.

It was a nice read and I want more in the series.

Wow, North and Leo could not catch a break! They're both really going through it with non-stop crises happening everytime they think they can stop and catch their breath... I was exhausted just reading about it!!

North is adorably sweet but doesn't know how to say no to helping his family. Leo is fed up with everyone treating him like he's fragile because he had a serious accident. Together, they just see each other for who they actually are, not what's happened to them. I really liked them together, I just wish we'd gotten to see them not in crisis mode for a bit!

I'm also massively intrigued by the side characters in this series. Easton is absolutely obsessed with Rune; Rune is burying his head in the sand about his ex; Rune's kid Elio is awesome and I'm super happy to see some representation of SMA.... I honestly can't wait for more of this series.

Don’t Fall
Storm Season Book 1
E.M. Lindsey

North & Leo

Sheesh, my heart, wow these two had it rough, one disaster after another, but oh my they way they cared for each other, never gave up

They had it rough in this book, wow, my heart hurt for them at times.

Both men have been through so much, both men are so strong, together though. I adored them

E.M. Lindsey is an absolutely favorite author of mine. This, I already know, is going to be a new favorite series of mine. I already cannot wait for the next book to come out.

Wow these two. Sweet, funny, snarky, lippy lol sheesh these two were everything.

I loved this, I read this is pretty much one sitting.

This author has such an incredible talent to handle delicate topics so well, never shying away, showing us the nitty gritty of these topics. I just love this author's books.

The side characters were so interesting, I cannot wait for Runes book!

I adored this, just ate this up

Fantastic book as usual from EM Lindsey

Loved it

This is an absolute binge read. Once you start you can’t stop. Its a beautiful story about two very broken souls who come together and heal each with love and acceptance. Leo had a very bad accident which left him with a bunch of medical issues and without a husband, he goes on in life feeling worthless and like a burden to his brother Easton. North on the other hand had a very rough childhood which left him giving up on his own aspirations so he could take care of his family. They start out rough with both thinking they hate each other but you know what they say, live and hate are never far apart. An accident finally makes them cone clean to each other about their feelings and they finally start building a better life together.
I honestly loved both MCs and the side characters so i cant wait for Eastons and Runes book!

As a widow, I feel like I immediately felt connected to Leo. The life and guilt of the living spouse is hard enough without the added trauma of Leo's situation. I honestly feel like I cried from page 1, that's how well written this book was. I cried all the tears. Sad tears, tears of frustration, tears of happiness and the tears of familiarity. This story was incredible beautiful but its still funny and adorable. North is the most realistic MC. He is awkward, puts his foot in his mouth too often and had the biggest heart despite his absolutely tragic childhood. To see two men with the amount of trauma and heartbreak that Leo and North have, be each other's happy ending was, yes another set of tears! Im kind of giddy to read about Easton and Rune next! I know that story is going to be interesting!!

Absolutely loved it!

I am a huge EM Lindsey fan, but I think Don’t Fall might be my favorite book of theirs to date. I enjoyed every minute of this story, and was pulled in from the very first page as we meet North and his crow Russell.

The humor was often laugh out loud funny, and helped to balance the depth and reality of both North’s complicated family, and Leo’s tragic past - including the loss of his husband, his TBI and the resultant physical and cognitive limitations he struggles with. As always, EM Lindsey portrayed everything with thoughtful accuracy and sensitivity.

I absolutely adored North and Leo’s story, and loved being introduced to the cast of characters who I’m assuming we will see more of as the series continues. Overall an incredible start to a new series, cannot wait for book 2!!

First of all, I love entering a new world, a new context of characters.
It can be a bit overwhelming with so many new informations and characters for me to fall for, but Leo and North grabbed me by the hand and took me into a beautiful story of finding love even when life keeps throwing rocks at you. It's not that 'love cures it all', but it's sweet even with the hardships. North is a precious EMT that talks to birds and you can't helpt fall for him, even when he is pricky, and Leo....oh Leo, I was rooting for you so much throughout this story, and was so happy with bhow things went for you even if it was difficult.
I will definitely keep following this series!!!

Straight up five stars, started it this am, took a break to talk to God for a bit, made my spouse get carry out and empty out dishwasher so I could Finish this wonderful starter to Lindsey’s newest series! For about half I wavered between wanting to punch North and Leo (speak your truth!) and wanting to hug these so sweet so scarred babies. When they finally talked, it was perfection. There’s a lot of not pretty in this book but it’s necessary. And their friends, such a found family. I need the next book now!

Leo and north have a chaotic story!
North has been dealing with his family’s drama since he was younger, always taking care of everyone.
Leo has been though hell since the incident and is struggling to find stable ground.
Little did the both know they just had to to arguing and find comfort in each other.

I love E.M Lindsey’s writing. The banter is amazing and the story’s always hit you right in the feels!

Leo and North have been through it, sheesh! I spent most of the book wanting to smother them both with love and affection because good lord the things these two have been through!

Their happy ending is definitely deserved, but I’m not gonna lie I found myself more intrigued about several of the side characters (especially Rune) than by our two MCs.

Interested to see where this series goes though!

ARC Review:
Whenever I read something by E.M. Lindsey, I am awestruck by her writing. "Don't Fall" too is a book that made me fall in love with the main characters as well the side characters altogether. The little nuances, the chaos, the laughs and the tears all made perfect sense, and I wish I was living in that world. Highly recommended

So this is a very emotianal and heartbreaking book. Both North and Leo's lives have been shit and so heavy. Both for very different reasons, but both devastating.
Both men so broken and in pain they both feel unlovable.

Which is so, so not true. There is so much love in them. Love for each other and love they get from each other. I am so happy they found each other.
