Love Between Innings

Their banter is relentless. Their chemistry? Even better off-screen.

Behind our dazzling interview smiles, Tenny Jackson and I bicker nonstop—especially when our long-ago meet-cute kiss revealed he’s as much of a player off the field as he is at first base.

Tenny insists I’ve got him all wrong, but I won’t let sculpted forearms and a swoon-worthy smile distract me from the facts…or my professional goals. Even if he weren’t my enemy, dating a player would sink my credibility faster than the wave that wiped out my surfing career.

Then my eccentric grandmother shows up, and Tenny and I have to fake it off-camera too. Private dinners, family movie nights, and his hands-on fixer energy push me toward the unthinkable—calling a truce.

Between squashing Tenny’s pre-game superstitions and him encouraging me to get back on a surfboard, it’s getting hard to deny we’re rounding first on something real. But when a disastrous game-day fiasco turns us into a headline, it’s not only my job on the line—it’s my heart.

Love Between Innings by Laura Langa | ON KU
Audiobook release date: 29th July 2026

Thoughts | 3.5 ⭐️
This was such a cute baseball romance story, I don't think I've read a baseball romance before; actually I don't think I've come across an MMC who is the epitome of "too good to be true"! Dare I say Alex didn't deserve Tenny until she thankfully redeemed herself towards the end. I love me a bit of miscommunication trope and angst but here he didn't deserve it like at all --,mind you he was being all defensive, protective and whatnot since the first chapter, Alex basically asked him to kiss her then years later he's still thinking about the kiss --,I mean ON THEIR FIRST ENCOUNTER, I was loving them equally then it was back n forth between can't stand her and love them together! Also I feel like the fake dating was a tad forced but I did enjoy it in some parts of the plot. This is my first reading experience with this author, I'm intrigued to finish the rest of the series when it's out

Tropes
▪︎ Meet kiss
▪︎ Fake dating
▪︎ Sassy sports reporter FMC
▪︎ Golden retriever first baseman MMC
▪︎ Forced proximity
▪︎ He falls first
▪︎ Enemies to lovers

Plot Summary
Sports reporter Alex and baseball star Tenny Jackson can't stand each other, despite the undeniable chemistry between them. When circumstances force them to fake a relationship, their constant arguments slowly turn into genuine feelings. As the line between pretend and real begins to blur, Alex must decide whether risking her career is worth taking a chance on love.

Love Between Innings by Laura Langa
Waves Baseball series #1. Contemporary sports romance. Romcom. Closed door. He falls first, second chance, and fake dating troupes.
Tenny Jackson - a pro baseball player for the Waves.
Alex - a baseball sports reporter.
They met once before but the timing didn’t work out.
Now they meet daily before and after the Waves baseball games and their sparks are undeniable. Add in a reason for a bit of fake dating and their relationship takes off.

🎧 I listened to an audiobook narrated by Rylee Kuberra and Stephan Godleski, both of whom, deliver an amazing performance bringing the two MC’s to life, love and baseball. Alternating POV chapters with a lot of the conversations in a DUET performance. The best kind. The two characters are bigger than life as a pro ball player and reporter and their on-camera personas come through clearly in the audiobook, giving emotion to the dialogue you’d expect. Each also give voice to a couple of secondary characters with ease and clarity.
An “ear-catching” audiobook that brings the joy, romance and love to the forefront.

The story is sweet and entertaining. A couple of hiccups with communication and a boss that insists on drama instead of statistics, but Tenny’s feelings and generosity outweigh the issues. He’s a little over the top and admits to it being a problem. But you can’t help falling for him.
Fun banter. Sweet romance vibes and all-in on love feelings. A story and audiobook that will leave you feeling happy and full of joy.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley and Dreamscape Select.

Thank you Dreamscape Select and NetGalley for the ALC in exchange for my honest review. Rylee Kuberra and Stephan Godleski were phenomenal narrators, and the tension between the characters was easily felt. The fact that this was narrated in duet was the cherry on top!

As far as fake dating sports romances go this one was gosh darn adorable, with no spice but all the feelings. Tenny is a pro baseball player while Alex is a retired surfer turned sports interviewer.

Was I a big fan of the miscommunication? Not particularly, however, it did help move the plot along and it wasn’t too annoying. Throughout the story, both Alex and Tenny grow along with their relationship in a heartwarming way.

A great read if you’re looking for a sweet low-stakes love story with no explicit scenes!

I was up until 1am just to finish this book. If that doesn't tell you something, it should considering my alarm was set for 6am.

I debated giving this book 3.75 or 4 stars. Enjoyment wise, Love Between Innings is definitely above a 4 star read, but there was something that made me almost lower my rating slightly. Mainly that I thought the book needed to be tweaked just a little bit in places because I think it would have helped the book flow better. It was almost a bit wishy-washy at times with how the characters acted and thought, especially when it came to each other, and I just think that could be smoothed out a bit, but otherwise everything else was great! I loved Tenny and really liked Alex, too, and it was Grandma Mags that really stole the show!! It was quite interesting to see a baseball player x surfer romance, and I would honestly like to read more like that!

Content wise, it was honestly cleaner than I had expected it to be, especially after the first chapter. It was a little more physical attraction based/touchy/kissy than I personally liked, but it’s not nearly as bad as some other books I've read, so I'll give it a pass 😅 I also really liked that neither of the main characters drink alcohol because that was one of the main things I was worried about after realizing they were at a college party.

Overall, I enjoyed this book fairly well, and I would recommend it!!

⤷ Alex:
I liked her a lot, and personality wise I think she's honestly the perfect fit for Tenny. Some of her decisions drove me a bit crazy, but overall as a character she was good.

⤷ Tenny:
Ohmygoodness, I loved him so much!! Again, some of his decisions too drove me a bit crazy, but I think he had more understandable reasons for them. He was just so sweet, and I really don’t see how anyone could dislike him!

After a meet kiss at an end of year college party, where Tenny saves Alex from an uncomfortable situation, they agree to find each other at next school semester. But Alex never shows and Tenny doesn't even know her real name.
Fast forward 5 years and Alex walks back in to his life as the new reporter covering Tenny's baseball team. This one had so many unexpected moments, mutual healing, and helping, and Tenny has the best golden retriever energy! Give me a man that brings you fountain Dr. Peppers and oversized stuffed animals any day.
This one did have a dose of miscommunication but it was resolved fairly quickly.

Thank you to @lauralangawrites and @bookedwiththeemilys for my gifted copy

4.5 stars rounded up to 5

I absolutely loved this story by Laura Langa! I seriously had a hard time putting it down. I had to make myself stop reading at 1:15am and wasn’t able to get back to reading it until the next night. I finished it in 2 sittings. So good!! 💕🔥

One thing I love about a good romcom is the witty banter, and this book did not disappoint in that regard. Tenny (short for Tennessee) and Alex (short for Alexis) aren’t really enemies to lovers but they enjoy getting under each other’s skin. Their banter back and forth is gold!

Tenny is the best golden retriever around. And man, does he love taking care of those he loves, and he loves taking care of Alex!💕 Alex has been through something difficult and Tenny is constantly doing things to make sure she is okay. He knows she is strong and capable, but he wants to be there for her and make sure all of her needs are met.

Tenny has always felt like he is “too much”, but Alex thinks he is perfect just the way he is. I think part of that reason is because she was raised by her Grandma Mags who, herself, can be alot. I loved Grandma Mags!!!

And the chemistry between Tenny and Alex is off the charts 🔥🔥 This book is the perfect sports romcom, in my opinion. Looking forward to the next one!

I received an ARC from the author. These are my own opinions.

“And the person who gave me the best kiss of my life has no idea who I am.”

AUDIO REVIEW: I loved this book when I read it and I fell even harder for the audio. I am a total sucker for duet narration and these narrators were FANTASTIC!

From the first darling meet kiss between Tenny and Alex, to the forced proximity as co-workers of sorts, this story had me feeling all the warm fuzzies.

The snappy banter, combined with Tenny’s wholesome, golden retriever energy, fills every moment with sparks and swoon, and I loved every single minute.

Tenny is the first baseman for a pro-baseball team and Alex is the new team reporter. There is a solid enemies-to-love vibe, but it feels one-sided, and things quickly take a turn into fake relationship territory. I couldn’t get enough of it, especially as Tenny really exaggerates things. I laughed, I swooned hard, and I felt emotional as they each worked through hardships.

I loved this couple and everything about this story, but I especially fell hard for Tenny. He secretly reads/listens to romance to become a better man? He never reuses a nickname and gets pretty creative with them. And he always feels like he’s been “too much” in life–but he’s utterly perfect. I’m so excited to read the rest of this series.

Updated for audio:

I loved reading this book earlier this year and getting to listen to it in audio brought it to life in a whole new way. The narrators truly did an exceptional job capturing the personas of Tenny and Alex. The banter between the two came through wonderfully thanks to the duet narration format of this audio book. And Tenny’s exuberant spirit, with all of his golden retriever energy, was so fun to listen to.

I loved the tension between these two and the way Tenny tried to be there in every way he could for Alex, yet always worried that he was “too much”, something that he had been told time and again in his life. And I loved that, for Alex, Tenny was never too much. He was exactly who she needed him to be.

I received a complimentary copy of this audio book, however, I also purchased my own print copy.

Original review:

I loved this sweet, fun story! One of the best things about this book was Tenny, who was always so full of energy and constantly trying to be helpful and do things for those he either cared about or those he saw were in need. Yet, in the past, he had overheard a woman he was dating say he was "too much" and so that worry was always there, making him sure that he would eventually do something too over the top and push Alex away.

There was so much fun, flirty, and witty banter in this story, but there were also so many deep and reflective moments for both characters as they juggled hurt from their pasts and even heartache as they navigated what their relationship really was.

This story made my heart so happy as I read it! I loved how caring Tenny was toward Alex and the way Alex eventually realized what a truly wonderful man Tenny was.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, however, I also bought my own print copy. All opinions are my own.

sweet baseball romance!

Laura delivered a sweet little summer read for us with this one!

Tenny is just adorable. His love and care for others was almost unbelievable. He held his heart in his hands and offered it to Alex on a silver platter. He just wanted to be loved for his extra-ness, and the way she reciprocated eventually was so sweet. As a fellow extra person, I loved that Alex appreciated Tenny & his lil overwhelming self.

They suited each other well, even if the miscommunication was hard to read. I wanted Alex not to jump to conclusions and Tenny to be straightforward from the beginning.

Both characters had been through a lot. By the time they were in each other’s proximity again, the feelings were endless. The chemistry between these two was absolute fire. Laura writes some great kisses, but the ones in this read were just 😍.

While I overall enjoyed the story, I didn’t quite see how Alex could go from debilitating pain & fear to surfing again. She didn’t express those desires earlier in the book, so that plot point didn’t hit for me.

Overall, I’d recommend this story to any romcom fans who love baseball and banter between the main couple! Thanks, Laura, for the early copy! All thoughts are my own and no positive review was required.

CW: This is a closed door romcom with no language and makeouts. There’s mention of an absent parent and divorce, parental death (past, not on page), a bad surfing accident (past), anxiety issues, and compulsive behaviors.

Nah, y’all. Just…absolutely not.

Tenny is adorable and too good to be true, yes. But this story was an all-over-the-place mess.

What had to have happened was that Ms. Langa had the first 50% done and the final 45% done, but decided there hadn’t been enough conflict, so she threw a 5% dash in at the 55% mark, added two sentences to “resolve” it at the 88% mark, and just figured we wouldn’t notice the complete lack of congruency in these characters, their motivations, and their reactions.

BUT WE NOTICED, LAURA, SORRY.

From the beginning we were on a shaky foundation with how forced the fake dating element felt. Mags didn’t hold enough weight for the trouble caused, and there would have been little to no consequences if she did find out the truth anyway.

The entire time Tenny was himself: kind, generous, quite literally too good to be true. And yet, Alex met him with contempt, condescension, and just a disgusting kind of meanness that made her wholly unattractive. But she’s hot and smells good so it’s fine, I guess.

After she INTENTIONALLY and back-handedly betrays Tenny, humiliates him, and cuts him out of her life like an immature, self-entitled 7th grade girl, there are zero consequences. No damage to Tenny’s reputation, nothing. So, 1) the act was cruel but in the story itself it didn’t matter and 2) it did NOTHING to change Alex in Tenny’s eyes. They move forward despite enormous, blazing red flags because of…✨cHeMiSTrY✨.

(Also can we talk about how Rhett literally came out of nowhere as Tenny’s supposed good friend but then was stood up and never seen or heard from again?)

Like this is not cute y’all! The miscommunication trope is not 👏 cute 👏.
They’re fighting seabirds and surfing and breaking superstitions and the entire time my lip is curled with disgust because MY GUY, WHY DO YOU LIKE HER? Tenny was already so insecure! And his self-acceptance should not have come from this mean and capricious woman telling him he wasn’t “too much.” It should have come from him doing his own necessary inner work. How was I supposed to root for these two together???

He SAYS that he can’t trust anything Alex says, and despite the fact that she does nothing to prove she’s become trustworthy, they just bulldoze forward into their relationship. Their “transactional professional relationship” made zero iota of sense because Alex was in no position to make demands of their relationship without an apology.

Alex would have been so much more likable if she had faced true repercussions for her behavior. If she had faced the disappointment from her supposedly beloved grandma and truly humbled herself to apologize and build back Tenny’s trust. I think that would have been a more powerful story against the metaphor of surfing. Of her falling and working her way back out into the unknown waters.

Quite literally a quarter of a page of her saying “sorry my b” and Tenny being like “it’s okay” just did not cut it.

The pacing of this was bonkers. Constant hot and cold with absolutely no character development and then suddenly boom “I love you,” boom Olympics, boom married and babies. All in about 6.2 seconds.

Also Tenny’s inner world was really made out to be like he had some kind of obsessive compulsion or something—which actually could have been really moving and interesting—but apparently all he needed was hot girl magic, I guess? I’m not sure why it was worked up so much (especially against what was supposed to be his “traumatic background”) and then just resolved with next to no effort or true intervention.

At the end of the day, this was just two troubled people who ended up together because of hotness and chemistry. Thankfully that’s all unstable and lowkey toxic relationships need to thrive. The stuff of everlasting love. 😌

It’s apparently still rough getting editors out here on these streets, y’all, but Exhibit This Book Right Here proves we still need them 😩.
(Peep Chapter 8 when Tenny“fowls a ball” like he was batting a turkey or Cornish game hen instead of a baseball.)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Love Between Innings by Laura Langa was such a fun sports romance! As someone who will happily pick up just about any baseball romance, this one was right up my alley.

I listened to the audiobook, and the dual narrators did a fantastic job bringing Tenny and the heroine to life. Their chemistry, witty banter, and constant back-and-forth made the story so entertaining, and the fake dating trope was executed really well. I also loved seeing Tenny’s caring side come through as the walls between them slowly came down.

The closed-door romance still delivered plenty of swoony moments, and I found myself smiling through so many of their interactions. While it wasn’t quite a five-star read for me, it was an enjoyable, feel good romance with lovable characters, great narration, and all the baseball vibes I was hoping for.

If you enjoy fake dating, enemies-to-lovers energy, playful banter, and baseball romances, I’d definitely recommend giving this one a listen!

~Their banter is relentless. Their chemistry? Even better off-screen…

-LOVE BETWEEN INNINGS, is a delightful closed door sports romcom that had me smiling and laughing from start to finish. I thoroughly enjoyed the endless witty fun banter, the flying sparks of chemistry, the sweet swoony moments, the forced proximity, the enemy to lover vibes, and the layered heartfelt depth in between. I loved the steady support and the care underneath the teasing. Watching the connection that came as characters chose to not give up on one another, which made me want to root for their happiness even more. Seeing characters rise obstacles in their own way and together was wonderful. This has a cute story worth the read!🙌🏻📚⚾️

•Content: some cheating (from ex and ex best friend), toxic ex, surfing accident, spinal injury, lingering pain, PTSD from accident, some parental drama, death of a parent, minor confrontation during game, career anxiety, no language, no spice, kisses only.

When Alex's grandmother meets baseballer Tenny, she assumes he is the boyfriend Alex has told him about. Tenny, being a good sport, goes along with the ruse and so begins their fake dating fun.

You guys, these two had such amazing chemistry together! And their witty banter was so on point that I found myself chuckling along so many times. Tenny was such a sweetheart in this book, always having Alex's back, even when things weren't so great between them. It was great to have the female lead character as a reporter - so unique!

The best part about this book is that it is the start to a new series and I cannot wait to see who is featured in book two.

This is such a fun and sweet romcom! Tenny is such a sweetheart and all he wanted was to be loved and cared for, even with all his extra-ness. I love how all the things he thought were extra-ness, were things that Alex loved about him. Their banter was so entertaining! Their miscommunication was hard to get through at times and I felt like just shoving them in a closet and not letting them out until they talked everything out!

Overall, this was such a fun read and I can't wait to read more from Laura.

Love Between Innings is another home run for Laura Langa. She writes the sweetest romances with the greenest MMCs and swooniest banter. They’re high in chemistry and low in angst. I’ve loved everything I’ve read of Laura’s and that streak continues.

Tenny is my newest addition to the green flag hall of fame. He is kind, thoughtful, and generous—he takes pleasure in taking care of those he loves. He has the sweetest heart and loves big. The idea that he has been made to feel like he’s too much hurts my heart. His grand gestures and over-the-top personality are so endearing. The way he continued to show up for Alex says so much about his character and how deeply he cares for her.

Alex is strong, capable, and feisty. She’s also guarded and cautious after what she’s been through. I don’t blame Alex for her initial opinion of Tenny. You can’t really know someone’s character after such a brief interaction, and the media can be very convincing. I do think she owed him a conversation about Rory, especially after getting to know him better. But as Tenny points out, as uncomfortable as it was, they both grew from it and ultimately became closer because of it.

Tenny and Alex have the best chemistry. Their bickering and flirty banter are top tier. And their sizzling kisses almost melted my Kindle. I was an absolute puddle.

I love that Tenny paid attention to the little things and wanted to take care of Alex. The way he fawned over Mags was just the cherry on top. I love that Alex appreciates Tenny for who he is and doesn’t try to dull his shine. The way they end up helping each other fits their relationship perfectly.

Tenny completely stole my heart. I laughed, swooned, and grinned my way through this story. If you enjoy baseball romance, devoted heroes, and couples who bring out the best in each other, add this one to your TBR!

If you’re in the market for a new book boyfriend, one who is going to cause tears of laughter due to his witty jokes, melt at his thoughtfulness, want to get feisty when he tries to bicker with the FMC, but is an all-around sweetheart of a golden retriever... well, pick up this book and meet Tenny.

It started years ago with a meet-kiss at a college party before our FMC, Alex, was off to pursue an Olympic surfing career. They had planned to reunite the following semester, but, well, life happened. Their chemistry was real. While she was unable to come back to meet again, she followed his pro-baseball career to learn of his many dalliances with woman over the years.

So when she becomes the new sports reporter for his team, their reunion was not what he had hoped for five years ago. The miscommunication trope is used a bit in this story, but not in a way that frustrated me. In fact, it was motivating me to want to read faster to see how the next morsel was going to be revealed. The author wrote Alex as a strong, independent woman with a touch of a vulnerable side.

The way these characters complemented each other made their romance believable. Tenny’s acts of service were so heartfelt and genuine, it would have been impossible for anyone not to give him a chance. Between the swoony MMC and tenacious FMC and their hilarious banter (and a few scary birds, eeek.), I had so much fun listening to this story on audio.

Title: Love Between Innings
Author: Laura Langa
Genre: Baseball RomCom
Publisher/Indie: Indie
Publication Date: June 12

What a fun sports romance! I loved it. Hockey and Football seem to be my usual go to so it was fun reading about baseball and some surfing!

I really enjoyed both MC’s energy and the MMC has that golden retriever vibe (not usually my favorite but it really worked here). I appreciated the mental health rep, for both MC’s. The miscommunication was frustrating although it worked to drive the plot forward. Grandma Mags definitely stole the show! A sweet sports romance all around.

I look forward to more by this author!

Tropes:
Meet Kiss
Enemies to Lovers
Fake Dating
Baseball RomCom
Forced Proximity
First Baseman MMC
Sports Reporter FMC

Synopsis:

Love Between Innings was such an enjoyable read.
Tenny completely won me over. He feels things deeply, cares deeply, and gives so much of himself to the people he loves. Watching him struggle with the idea that he might be “too much” was hard at times. I appreciated that this was something the book explored because I think a lot of readers will relate to it. As someone who can be a little extra too, I loved seeing Alex come to appreciate that side of him. I also really liked Alex. She’s independent, determined, and focused on building a career for herself while dealing with everything her past surfing accident took away from her. It was nice to watch her slowly lower her guard and begin to trust Tenny.

Their relationship kept me invested from start to finish. The banter was one of my favorite parts of the book, and the chemistry between them was so good. I also enjoyed the fake dating aspect and seeing both characters move past the assumptions they had made about each other. The miscommunication frustrated me at times, though, and there were definitely moments when I wanted them to be more honest with each other.

Grandma Mags deserves a mention because she added so much to the story. Every scene with her was entertaining, and she quickly became one of my favorite side characters.

Overall, this was a sweet closed-door baseball romance with memorable characters, fun banter, and plenty of emotional moments. If you enjoy sports romances with fake dating, second chances, and a golden retriever MMC, I’d definitely recommend picking this one up.

Perfect audio palate cleanser for something light and sweet. 💕 3.5⭐️ Rounded up.

Right away I was impressed with the audio production. It’s performed in duet narration and for the most part the narrators did a good job. Sometimes I would get a little annoyed by the male narrator’s voice anytime his character had to face confrontation but overall it was a pleasant listening experience. I thought the beginning started off really cute and I was excited to see where fate would take Alex and Tenny next. There were even moments I laughed out loud which for me is always a plus. Where my opinion starts to slip a little is during the third act breakup. By this point, Alex’s character was really starting to get annoying. The breakup was so ridiculous that it would have been best not having one at all. Other than that, there really isn’t much to say. It’s a very basic, cutsie sports romance that is easy to listen to while multitasking.

This one was hyped up a bit for me and I’m a bit disappointed that I didn’t love it as much as everyone else.

What I did enjoy was the baseball/journalist main characters! I really enjoy baseball romances I guess (this is my first one) and that aspect left me wanting more. I also enjoyed the journalist aspect of the FMC. I enjoyed that she use to be an athlete as well, though I wish this was more prominent part of the story. I also enjoyed the settings and some of the situations the characters were put in. I also enjoyed that the “third act breakup” wasn’t entirely present.

What I struggled with was the pacing and moving from scene to scene. There were many times I wasn’t sure how we got to where we were and I had to go back and reread only to still not figure it out. I also wasn’t a fan that our characters truly didn’t pick each other until 80% and we only got maybe 15% to see their relationship. I wanted more.

Overall I enjoyed this one, but the constant miscommunication got a bit frustrating to me.

What you can look forward to:
-sports romcom
-fake dating
-forced proximity
-golden retriever mmc
-he falls first
-witty banter
-sports reporter/first baseman
-dual POV

This book started off with a meet kiss that had me absolutely hooked right from the start. The banter and chemistry between Tenny and Alex was strong. My man Tenny was down BAD in this one. It did lose a little steam for me throughout with all the miscommunication and jumping to conclusions that Alex did (and she sure jumped a lot). Even so, there was still so much to enjoy!

I enjoyed the audiobook and thought the narrators did a good job.

Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Select, and West East Publishing for this ALC in exchange for an honest review.

Alex and Tenny have an adorable meet-cute in college, but life happens and don’t see each other again for 5 years. They both have misconceptions of each other that keeps them from communicating how they feel.

I wanted to love this so bad because I really liked the characters but I could not get passed the miscommunication. It also felt like the plot jumped around a lot, and I didn’t like how Tenny was so consistent in how he acted but Alex immediately blamed him for something he didn’t do which would have been so out of character. I did like the characters themselves, but there love story didn’t really work for me

4.5 rounded up!

This was so sweet, full of banter, chemistry, fake dating, & a team group chat. Loved!!

The audiobook is THE way to go with this one (although, I do admit to following along on the ebook so I could highlight all my fav lines).
Rylee Kuberra & Stephan Godleski did an amazing job on this narration. I didn't ever want to stop listening once I started.

🎧: ~7hrs, DUET narration (obsessed), listened at 2x
📖: 1st person, dual POV
🌶️: kisses only
🤬: no foul language
⚠️: anxiety, overcoming fear, miscommunication, no third act breakup 👏🏻

Thank you to NetGalley, Laura Langa, & Dreamscape Select for the advanced listening copy of this audiobook 🫶🏼

I wanted to like this more but it just didn’t happen for me. There is sizzling chemistry and some great kisses but miscommunication is a major plot driver and I just don’t know why Tenny likes Alex…she’s mean and jumps to the worst conclusions about him. I know authors obviously get beat up for third act break-ups since the marketing for this directly addresses it and yes, there is no third act break-up but I think what did happen would have made more sense in the third act. I got whiplash from Alex and just couldn’t get invested in them being together.

This was such a fun, charming sports rom-com! Between the baseball setting, fake dating shenanigans, and nonstop banter, I found myself smiling through so much of this story. It was also a treat to revisit the Waves baseball team and catch up with familiar faces from Love Catch.

Tenny and Alex were an absolute delight to follow. Their banter was sharp, playful, and felt effortless, making every interaction entertaining. Beneath all the teasing, though, was a relationship built on genuine support and understanding.

One of my favorite aspects of their relationship was how Alex continually reassured Tenny when he worried he was "too much." She saw him exactly as he was and loved him for it. In return, Tenny showed up for Alex when she was struggling with fear and uncertainty, encouraging her without pushing too hard. They truly became each other's biggest cheerleaders.

The story balanced humor, romance, and emotional growth really well. The fake dating setup created plenty of fun moments, but the deeper character development kept the romance feeling meaningful. I was invested in both their individual journeys and their relationship from beginning to end.

A fun and heartwarming baseball rom-com filled with banter, chemistry, and two characters who truly support one another. I loved watching Alex and Tenny move from reluctant rivals to each other's biggest fans. Their relationship was equal parts sweet, funny, and encouraging—and honestly, Tenny's particular brand of "too much" was just right for me too.

Each book I read by Laura Langa is better than the last. I’m not sure how she does it, but I’m officially hooked. This baseball, enemies to lovers, second chance romcom is full of tension, banter, and chemistry, and immediately after finishing it, I just wanted to start over and read it again.

To say I’m obsessed with Tenny and Alex is probably an understatement. Alex is strong, independent, and feisty. She’s making her way in a male-dominated field and isn’t about to risk that on a womanizing first baseman (even if he was the best kiss of her life years back). Enter Tenny, who quickly became one of my favorite MMCs of all time. He is goofy and sweet and protective, confident but with some deep self-conscious doubts. He's been convinced he's "too much" in every sense of the phrase, and I love how Alex helps shift that perspective. I could say so much more, but to avoid spoilers, just know I was giddy giggling during every interaction between them.

I also straight adored Tenny and Alex’s families. Mags is obviously the real MVP of the whole story, and Arizona is the best little sister to Tenny, their teasing antics and their protectiveness for each other were so sweet (and I’m hoping to get more of her in future books). And don’t get me started on Tenny’s Waves teammates, the group chats, the relationship advice, the camaraderie, all so wonderful.

Thank you so much, Laura and Booked with the Emilys, for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. I may need to run for president of the Laura Langa fan club after this one, and I cannot wait for this series to continue! All opinions are my own.

Delightful! I was blessed with a listening audio and honestly I loved both characters and their journey to find each other again. This was sort of a second chance, enemies to loves, sports trope that checked all the boxes! The narrators were super fun too! Great voices and matched energy! I love Duets (where their voices are put into each others chapter.) LOVED IT!

Love Between Innings by Laura Langa
Narrated by Rylee Kuberra and Stephan Goldleski

I enjoyed both narrators unfortunately the story was just okay.

Tenny (baseball player) and Alex (sports reporter) cross paths after a missed connection 5 years ago. Cue forbidden relationship, fake dating, and heaps of misunderstandings.

Lots of over reactions and miscommunications -always seemingly on Alex’s part.

This was my first read from this author, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to listen to it through NetGalley. 🥹 The audiobook was amazing. The narrators did such a great job bringing the story to life, and I had so much fun listening. It had some of my favorite tropes like sports romance, fake dating, and an MMC who falls HARD. 😮‍💨
Overall, it was such a feel good, lighthearted romance, and I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for a fun, easy read. 🤍
