Ten strangers are invited to the remote Ginger Island. Unable to return to the mainland, and with no means of making their situation known, they each stand accused of committing hate crimes against the ginger community. When members of the party begin to die, it becomes clear that there is a murderer in group and two important questions need to be who is the killer? And who will survive?
This parody on Agatha Christie's 'And Then There Were None' is written with a modern voice, biting wit and a wry take on the genre of the murder mystery.
Unfortunately for me I have read Agatha Christie’s original versions of this idea and seen most if not all of the movie and television versions. This helped me surmise the killer and as for means, motive and opportunity they are quite easy to elucidate. Neither of these things spoil what is a reliable homage to Mrs Christie. The suspense is heightened, the dialogue witty and sharp, the writing spot on. Criticism;- Early in the story Carmine makes a particular observation then slightly later she makes the same observation in a manner that implies she is doing so for the first time. It would be interesting to see how Ashley Lister rewrites other Christie books.
Gifted to me by the author, what a bloody brilliant read! Agatha Christie meets Cluedo with 10 gingers on a remote island. What's not to love? A dark humoured mystery that I loved!
