This book is a dichotomy in itself. The writer is clearly quite skilled in wordsmithing. They have all the required skills to present a narrative in a digestible way while employing complex knowledge which comes with experience, feedback, and rigorous study. It is by all means a very well written book.
What it is not is a narrative which respects the characters or world that it’s building. It is one thing to say a story doesn’t take itself seriously as is often the case with this genre but this author has taken every chance to mock their own narrative. At times it feels almost sacrilegious and at others it can seem almost endearing, if only like looking upon a child prodigy who developed the skills to play Mozart but cannot improvise.
It’s again by all means a well written book with a story that has me turning the pages but every once in a while I have to stop and ask myself, what the author was thinking, why were they thinking that, and what the hell am I doing still reading?
It’s not a terribly long book so if the description hooked you, give it a shot. Just beware of possibly feeling like the author is making fun of themselves even though they are otherwise successfully riffing off of a well known wizarding story and doing it with skill and style. Weird self degrading style, but style.
This book had so much potential and for a while everything was going good too. Then small things started to peep here and there like the MC calling himself as a dark lord while all he did was being only a male at a female university. Even the prophecy doesn't say anything bad about him too. But the main reason i didn't liked this book is that the usage of sex.
I dont mind the MC and LIs getting more power from sex or being horny as the magic system but the thing that while the villain possessed a teacher at the university and the MC fights him by having sex with the said teacher. When the villain tried to block the MC using his power, the MC and LIs have group sex to fight the baddie. There could have been fights or other ways of doing the fights rather than just having sex with everyone.
There are a couple things in the story I don't understand. The logic behind Kim's mother telling her she'd lose her magic if she lost her virginity doesn't make sense. That literally couldn't happen or Kim's mother wouldn't have magic to begin with. Also you would think after bonding with the girl who has plant magic as well as the smart one the MC would have enough smarts to pass the class of the herbology teacher who hates him. It makes no sense to have him fail after saying he gets their magic Plus the girl in his coven had a perfect score... Other than that I enjoyed the book.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was fun and engaging. The story and characters were incredibly interesting and entertaining. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. This book is definitely worth checking out.
I made it to DNF @20% Way too many Harry Potter references. It seems like I was recognizing something on just about every page, and I'm not exactly a Harry Potter fan.
