About the author

Hello. I grew up with video games and anime when I was a kid. From early childhood I was dreaming up all kinds of stories in my head, but never thought about writing. With too much time on my hands at the beginning of 2020, I decided to sit down and write a short story just for fun. Chapter after chapter and the short story developed into a bigger one, then evolved into a full novel.

Great book

This series just keeps getting better and better. I have the hardest time putting these books down. Then I have to wait for the next book to come out. So please keep putting out such wonderful stories.

Narias’ relationships are not healthy

There’s so much I want to say, on a few different topics. I’ll try to keep the spoilers to a minimum but there will be a couple of small ones…

I know that the girls being jealous of each other has been a thing throughout the whole series, but for some reason it felt like too much this time. The book opens with chapter after chapter after chapter of the girls sniping at one another, and being super jealous that one or two girls got some extra attention. It was so bad that I seriously considered just putting the book down and moving on. I hope that Narias and his girls can work through their issues soon because it’s not healthy and it’s not funny anymore.

The rest of the book was mostly about the tournament and had a distinct lack of the girls in it. Flamiris even skipped school and came all that way because she was worried for Narias, then she just watched the fight from her seat? I can think of several ways she could have helped Narias even if it was against the rules (does Flamiris seem like a rule follower to you?) but for some reason, she never did.

I think fully two thirds of the book was just narrating the fights - either Narias’ own, or the other competitors. It was interesting as far as the action goes, but I don’t know if I would call any of that character development, and you certainly didn’t need so much exposition to make it clear that the organizers are corrupt and stacking the fights against him.

The tournament organizers are incompetent too. There is no circumstance where you would reach the quarter final stage and only then realize that you have an awkward number of competitors remaining. You have brackets for a reason, and if there aren’t enough competitors to completely fill those brackets, then you give some of them a by straight into the second round. But that’s not corrupt enough, I guess, so instead we had completely “random” fights at each stage, where it was clear that someone was messing with the selection process. And random schedule changes to try to trip Narias up and make him forfeit. There is no way the fans wouldn’t notice the shenanigans, and they should have been more upset about it. We’re talking Dr Evil levels of villainy, and I found it hard to suspend my disbelief whenever it happened.

So all in all, I was rather disappointed. The story has been building up to this tournament for a while, and when it finally arrived it felt kind of forgettable. I won’t spoil the two or three plot points of actual character development, but they could have been compressed into a very short novella.
